Chief Randy Parker of Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue said the blaze was reported at about 10:40 a.m. Units from Melfa, Painter and Wachapreague responded. It took between 15 and 20 minutes to control the blaze. No one was injured. Smoke, fire and water damage resulted on the left side of the duplex where the fire started, leaving the family homeless. The other side had smoke damage. Bystanders said a neighbor ran into the other unit to alert the residents of the fire. She is vice chairwoman of the Accomack County Social Services Board and an Eastern Shore Area on Aging panel. Major is also on a local community management and policy team. About 20 citizens stood up to show their support for Major. Painter Town Council also gave her the nod. Being defeated in the last election by McCaleb gave her time for reflection, Major said. “I don’t look on that as a loss. It gave me the opportunity to do some self introspection,” she told the board last week. “I’ve gained maturity in thinking and analyzing situations. I believe I have the experience, fortitude, time and most of all the heart.” Major said she has a “passion” for the job, which is needed. Crockett asked her why she thinks she lost to McCaleb. “I could rationalize and say special-interest groups or a prominent businessman (or) the overshadowing of my mother. I like who I am. I want people to see Reneta Major, not Julia Major.” The new supervisor said she will follow “my own gut because that’s who I have to live with.” The devout Baptist added that she will continue to pray and “seek wisdom from God.” With respect to spending taxpayers’ money, Major said she would use the same method she uses with personal finances — separating “need” from “want. We’re all in survival mode. I believe I can make wise decisions.” Major said the upcoming redistricting measures interest her and she wants to provide input on the proposed budget. The supervisors set that document for public hearing while District 9 was without representation. Now the budget can only be cut unless the board readvertises it. Major said her greatest accomplishment in her previous term was helping residents of Lynnhaven Circle get decent roads so they could gain access to services, including ambulances. She said she is “not a proponent of raising taxes.” But, she added, “You either want the services or not. I believe you have to find other avenues, other resources, in order to get more.” “I’m not for big growth either,” she continued. “We don’t live in an eighttrack world anymore.” She said compromise is needed to attract business. “We’re going to have to let something come in,” she said. Edwards, who has lived in the district for about a decade, said his petition included the signatures of people from all walks of life. “I am the most up-to-speed and qualified for the seat.” Crockett questioned Edwards regarding a 2008 lawsuit against the county. He also wondered why only a month later, Edwards praised the supervisors for their hard work. Edwards replied that his citizens’ group “felt the board was not following procedure. Former Supervisor Ken Tucker, who wrote a letter of his intent to seek the seat, decided against doing so. Barney Selph of Belle Haven asked the supervisors to appoint him. The Cape Charles dentist called himself “conservative, hard working, familyoriented and proactive.” He admitted he had never attended a meeting of the board. “I’m not a politician,” Selph said, promising he would take on the job with total commitment. “I know there are things that need to be addressed,” he said. “People tend to let you know” if they have concerns. “They would probably come to me.” He said he would need time to get up to speed. Regarding teachers, Selph said, “Their pay needs to be doubled easily.” No one spoke on Selph’s behalf. Hart did not ask for his supporters to stand. Northampton County May Reduce Number of Supervisors By Ron West How best to represent the citizens of Northampton County occupied much of the meeting of the Board of Supervisors Tuesday. With a decrease in the county’s population, the supervisors are faced with shuffling the current six voting districts to insure that citizens are equally represented. A wide range of options have been reviewed by the board, including three, five and six districts, with either five or six total supervisors. Regardless of what the board selects regarding the number and shape of each district, the plan must pass muster not only with citizens, but also with the U.S. Department of Justice. The general consensus of the board is to move toward having five voting districts, with one supervisor each. It will be up to the board and county staffers to hammer out the final shape of each district. Once this is complete, the board will hold a public hearing and submit the plan for approval by the Justice Department. Timing is important if there is to be an election for the supervisors in November. County resident David Kabler made a presentation to the board regarding an effort to increase tourism for the county. Kabler noted that Hampton Roads will host OPSAIL 2012 in just over a year. Cape Charles has been selected to partner with Norfolk and hopes to see a significant number of vessels and visitors come to the town during June 2012. Kabler noted that while this will be a boost for the town, the county needs to look at the bigger Fairgrounds Road Onancock 787-7441 Shucker’sdinner just keeps bringingcan’t in the be verybeat! best liveYou Shucker’s prices entertainment available this weekend is no exception! can choose from&BBQ Babyback Ribs, Please don’t miss the debut performance by Wailing Waters 6HDUHG<HOORZÀQ7XQD&KRLFH1<6WHDN with Tyler Grady — Tyler Grady is a 2010 American Idol top %RQHLQ3RUN&KRSRU)ORXQGHU3ODWWHUWR 24 finalist. He stated that Cape Charles Harbor could play a key role in tourism by having vessels visit the area on a regular basis. The owners of the tallship Gazela have expressed interest in visiting the harbor in June of this year. The 110-year-old, 177-foot, 299-ton vessel was built for the Grand Banks fishing industry and has a rich heritage. Her three masts tower nearly 100 feet above her stone pine deck. A public hearing and proposal to amend text regarding the purchase of development rights ordinance failed to obtain the sufficient votes from the supervisors needed to support the change. A motion was presented by Supervisor Richard Tankard regarding attendance by representatives selected by the supervisors to serve on a variety of boards and commissions. If passed, the policy change would have allowed supervisors to replace such members who missed more than three meetings, or 25 percent, during a given year, without a viable excuse. The motion did not pass. School Superintendent Dr. Richard Bowmaster fielded questions from the board regarding the system’s capital improvement plan. Supervisors Tankard and Spencer Murray indicated concern over the plan and requested more detail regarding how the funds would be expended. The longrange plan proposes improvements to the county’s three schools, including roofing and electrical upgrades. Plans call for a joint meeting between the School Board and Board of Supervisors in the coming weeks to iron out the school budget for the coming year. In other business, the supervisors voted to accept a bid from Shultz and Sons Salvage, Inc. to purchase and remove scrap metal from the county for $156.80 per long ton. The board also accepted a bid by Tidewater Fibre Corporation to provide weekly recycling services at $15,588 annually. 4 • EASTERN SHORE POST • MARCH 11, 2011 So, Where Do You Go and Why Do You Stay? By Linda Cicoira One hundred percent of Accomack and Northampton residents who participated in an e-mail survey conducted by the Eastern Shore Post have ridden across the famed Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Several also remember taking the facility’s predecessor, the Kiptopeke Ferry, to Norfolk. Seventy-nine percent said they went on their first fishing trip by the time they were 7 years old. Their catch included flounder, trout, swelling toad, spot and blue gill. Seventy-one percent have visited the remote Chesapeake Bay island of Tangier. Fifty-seven percent said they have attended the annual Pony Penning on Chincoteague and the largest majority (50 percent) chose Assateague as their favorite beach. About 88 percent said they know how to swim. The favorite historical places of participants included Ker Place in Onancock, the Barrier Islands Center in Machipongo, the Assateague C.D. Marsh, Jewelers Lighthouse, downtown Accomac, Eastville and Onancock, and Eyre Hall in Cheriton with its fine colonial house and gardens. “The swim itself is about the same,” wrote Bobby Umphlett of Chincoteague, who has watched the island ponies swim the channel between Assateague and Chincoteague more than 50 times. “The amount of people watching has grown. I have a captain’s license and sometimes I carry tourists. I anchor my boat where the ponies enter the water.” Not surprisingly, the 65-year-old was among those who chose the lighthouse as his favorite historical site. His favorite sandy surface is Elaina’s Beach. “It’s a secluded beach you get to by boat and we named it after my granddaughter,” he said. Umphlett reeled in his first fish at the age of 7 from Cockle Creek, a stream between Chincoteague Inlet and Chincoteague Bay. He went to Tangier Island via Jet Ski in 2001 and crossed the bridgetunnel when it first opened when he “Home of the Original Chesapeake Bay Bracelets” Smith Island Cakes Now Here: KAMELEON “A Popping Change” Breakfast 7am-2pm 45 Market St. • Onancock VA 787-3333 Jaxon’s & Jaxon’s Hardware GARDEN SEEDS ONION SETS POTTING SOIL MIRACLE GROW Saturdays Only Saturdays DailyDaily Specials LunchFlounder Specials Fried Butterfly Shrimp Butterfly Shrimp Nacho salad Hamburger Shrimp seafood platter Hamburger Steak Fresh flounder Crab Soup Homemade Soups Dessert Trays Cheesecake Private Parties Available Call For Details 665-5967 • 665-5023 800-772-5023 Parksley Tasley Cakes Served at Mallard’s & the Island House 789-3686 was about 25. Jean Ames of Exmore fondly remembers riding the boat from Kiptopeke. “The ferries were fun because the people who worked on them were friendly and fun. We were allowed to run around and explore the entire ferry boat from top to bottom during the entire ride across the bay.” She was about 10 when the bridgetunnel was completed. Ames has never been to a Pony Penning but when she was 12, her father paid $50 for her first foal. “And soon she had a beautiful black colt with a white star on his forehead. The last (Chincoteague) pony I ever had was also the first pony I ever had. There were several ponies in between, but I kept my Chincoteague pony the longest,” Ames said. Her favorite historical place on the Shore is Christ Episcopal Church in Eastville, where she often visits the graves of lost family members. She favors both Cape Charles and Assateague beaches. “When I was growing up, my mother took me, my brothers, sisters and our cousin to the beach every day and that is how we all learned to swim.” Ames caught her first fish when she was 6. “I was out on the seaside with my father in his old wooden Chincoteague scow. We put the boat off at the dock on the farm where we lived, which was located on the seaside of Eastville. I probably caught a swelling toad.” Angela Mehsling of Accomac said, “I love the Ker Museum. Most times when I have friends or family in the Cape Charles Medical Center 216 Mason Ave. Cape Charles area, I try to indulge them with a tour of the house. The guides are always so knowledgeable about the area and excited at the connection the Eastern Shore has to the founding of our country. As an added bonus, I like to walk through the Town of Onancock afterward to see the beautiful historic homes and if my guests and I are lucky, we might even bump into a friendly local and have a chat.” Her favorite beach is at Eastville. Mehsling often travels the bridgetunnel. “My family lives in Virginia Beach and I can go as often as once a week,” she noted. “The rest stop in the middle of the bridge” is where she looks at the ocean and shakes “off any jitters from having to drive through the underwater tunnel.” Denise Johnson, 78, of Nassawadox went to Tangier Island for the first time about a decade ago. “Flew over with Carter Crabbe (a local pilot) who was on an errand. I stepped out of the plane and back in again. I would love to boat over and stay a while.” Oral Lambert, 69, of Cape Charles said he’s driven the bridge-tunnel “hundreds of times — maybe even more than a thousand.” He “commuted every day for three years. The first time I drove out on it was when it was under construction in the early ’60s. I was 21 out there as a young Virginia Beach police officer.” An unidentified resident chose the formal garden at Eyre Hall as a favorite spot. For the beach, the Northampton man picked “Kiptopeke … the slope is gentle with no drop-off. I travel the Shore every day in a service truck, so get to see a lot … example is the old military stuff at Indiantown Park.” The historical building in the “worst shape is right on the highway in Eastville,” he wrote. “The old school buildings next to the bus garage should not have been allowed to get so bad over the past 10 years.” He said repairs are needed to the roof. “What a shame.” Linda Fletcher, 63, of Wattsville remembers the bridge-tunnel being hit by a barge or something” when she was in college. “You had to fly across in a helicopter.” The first time she crossed the bay “was on the ferry and my Dad held me in his arms.” She was 4 or 5 years old. Lorraine Mason, 51, of Harborton said her favorite historical place is “the old Hopkins Brothers Building at the wharf in Onancock.” She goes there “most every weekend in the summer.” Her favorite beach is Dawson Shoals.” She’s never been to a Pony Penning. “I owned one (a pony) when I was a kid. Forley Stables give her to me because she was too ornery for a lesson pony.” Mason caught her first fish when she was about 5 at “The Mud Hole in Pungoteague Creek … I get excited reeling in any kind of fish — even nonkeepers.” Natalie Rinker-Good of Seaview picked the “old bunkers at the south end of the Shore” as her favorite spot. “You never know what will jump out of the woods when you walk there. It’s a beautiful area and lost in time!” Her favorite beach “for a barrier island … is Cobb.” On the mainland it has to be “Sand Hill … private and safe for dogs to run!” Annette Mills, 66, of Pocomoke City, Md., also fondly remembers taking the boat to Norfolk. “My first ferry ride was an experience. I got seasick! I spent the whole trip (about 105 min.) in the bathroom. After that trip … I would try to stay out on the deck where I could get fresh air and I made out fine. My parents would stay inside, but close enough where they could keep an eye on me. There were times the water was rough and objects on the tables would slide across the room, but all in all it is those childhood memories I enjoy. Of course, the ferry ride always added time to your trip, but that is a piece of Eastern Shore history that is gone.” Ron West of Machipongo said he remembers when there was no Assateague Bridge. “The Boy Scouts would be taken by boat back in the 1950s and early ’60s. We would camp out around the lighthouse for the weekend and the ponies would wander through all the time. Some other guys even tried to ride them, but with very little luck.” He caught his first fish at about age 5 “when a family member and a family friend took me out to teach me. I fell in love with the water then and never lost the interest.” “While the first car ferries were two side wheelers that ran from the Beach front in Cape Charles to Norfolk, my first memories of them are from when they had already moved to the Kiptopeke Little Creek run,” recalled West. “The pier at Kiptopeke was built about 1950. They moved the ferries there after they sank the nine concrete ships there as a breakwater. I can recall my parents taking my brother and me across the bay to Ames and Brownley in downtown Norfolk. I was probably about 5 or so. That was where we got to see Santa and tell him what we wanted for Christmas. We didn’t go across the Bay very often … the Princess Anne and the Pocahontas were the fastest that usually ran. The Accomac was actually faster, but she didn’t run that much as she was smaller than the rest. “When we were in high school, and there was an away game, we’d ride down to Kiptopeke and walk on to the ferry,” noted West. “The price was about 85 cents to walk on. Cars were $3, I believe. We’d walk on and ride across to Little Creek where we would then get on a bus from the school we were playing and ride to that school. The game wasn’t the most important thing to some of us. It was the trip back home. Once the bus had dropped us off at Little Creek, those of us with dates would run onto the ferry and up to the upper deck. (Remember it was night time.) There were four live boats on the upper deck with canvas covers. The idea was to get into a lifeboat with your date. The deal was, you’d go up to one of the boats and knock on the side. If no one answered, you got in and pulled the canvas cover back over it. If there was a return knock, you hurried to the next boat, and so on until you had tried all four boats. With only four lifeboats, if they were full, you were left with the stacks of life rafts that were on the deck. Watching the stars pass as you and your date looked up at the sky was really something. In the spring of 1964, some of the kids took a final ride the last day that they ran before opening the bridge-tunnel. I had to miss that trip.” Bobby Carroll Huether of Pungoteague likes looking around Accomac and Pungoteague and seeing the old structures. He also favors Silver Beach. “My parents still have a place just to the north that we can go and We participate with Perdue & Tysons’ Insurance Se habla español Timothy Fei, DDS (757)665-7729 Parksley, VA RESIDENTS OF TOWN OF NASSAWADOX Motor Vehicle and Trailer Decals will go on sale March 15, 2011 Cost is $33 for vehicles, $18 for trailers Available at Family Dentistry We accept most PPO insurances and Virginia Medicaid and we provide a full spectrum of services. enjoy the swimming in the bay,” he wrote. “As a young boy, my grandfather raised (Chincoteague) ponies, then took them up on the Wednesday and Thursday of Pony Penning to sell them. I remember he got $10 a piece for the mare colts and I believe $12 for the male colts. This was the early ’70s.” His niece, Angie H. Crutchley of Onancock, likes “just driving through … historic downtown Onancock, Cape Charles, etc. I don’t have any one favorite spot, though.” She also favors “Fig Tree Beach!!” Crutchley’s not sure when she caught her first fish. “Lord only knows. My Daddy had a fishing pole in my hand from the time I was like 2 or 3. Probably right in the Chesapeake Bay. We’d usually go out of Morley’s Wharf.” She also has memories of the bridgetunnel. “My Mom tells a story of how she, my dad, and I were coming back from across the bay when the truck suddenly broke down and the lights cut off. I was just a few months old. A tractor-trailer almost hit us. But we survived and were towed back. My mom has been scared of bridges ever since.” Northampton Free Library Petroleum, Propane Gas, Toyo Stoves, & Monitors Belle Haven 442-2444 or 1-800-532-5325 7745 Seaside Road Mon-Fri 9am-6pm Sat 9am-1pm Decals must be displayed by April 16, 2011 Please bring registration for each vehicle. It is the burning of this mixture that operates the engine, and after the combustion process, a small amount of oxygen remains in the exhaust. Engine's Air/Fuel Mixture Key to Fuel Efficiency, Reduced Emissions The oxygen (O2) sensor monitors unburned oxygen in the exhaust, and is part of the fuel management system. The vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) uses the information sent by the oxygen sensor to determine if the fuel mixture is rich (too much fuel) or lean (not enough fuel). To provide the best performance, fuel economy and emissions, the PCM has to con- stantly readjust the fuel mixture while the engine is running. It does this by looking at the signal from the O2 sensor(s), and then increasing or decreasing the on-time (dwell) of the fuel injectors to control fuel delivery. The oxygen sensor’s monitoring and signaling allows the engine computer to optimize engine performance and fuel efficiency, and reduce harmful emissions. Pay Attention to ‘Check Engine’ Light If the oxygen sensor wears out and fails to accurately generate a signal for the engine computer, the computer may adjust the mixture too lean or too rich as it tries to accommodate the perceived variation from where if should be. Of those bills, 1,599 passed through the process and will go on to Gov. McDonnell for his consideration prior to our return to Richmond for the statutorily mandated reconvened or veto session on Wednesday, April 5. Immediately upon adjournment of the regular session, which had gone one day into “overtime,” the House and Senate reconvened in a Special Session for purposes of redistricting. That special session promptly recessed and will convene in Richmond on Monday April 4, to adopt a new map of legislative districts, including congressional districts, for the commonwealth. For the first time in recent memory, the budget conference report passed unanimously through the House of Delegates, 97 to 0. This was a product of good and hard negotiations between the conferees of the Senate and the House. The deal was struck at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, with budget committee staff working on the agreed amendments until about 8 a.m. when the whole package was sent to the printer for the physical act of printing the conference report. A bad budget situation was improved by revenue receipts which increased over the months. Both the budget and the conference report on the governor’s transportation package removed what would have been for me the most troubling aspect and that was use of General Fund money toward transportation. Other than the statutorily provided portion of any budget surpluses, which the Assembly adopted in 2007, 0% Financing for 36 months PROCAT ® Featuring the ZT 200 Series Commercial Zero-Turn Riders 5-Year Warranty Shore Saw & Mower Kelley Brothers Painter, VA • 442-3322 CAPITAL LETTERS originally, did not make the final conference report budget. There is also additional money put forth to fund the state enterprise zones, which ultimately will result in a benefit to the Eastern Shore. The budget also included the “five for five” resolution for the Virginia retirement system. That is a requirement that the state employees contribute 5 percent to the VRS, with an offsetting 5 percent pay increase. The budget has language that moves the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport from the control of the Secretary of Commerce over to the Secretary of Transportation/Department of Aviation. Shortly after the veto session in April, I will be having another round of town hall meetings to discuss the final results from the 2011 General Assembly. Since the governor can offer amendments to legislation and also veto legislation, things still remain somewhat uncertain on some of the issues acted on by the Assembly until after the reconvened session. Under the governor’s proposal, some additional General Fund money would have been directed toward the new transportation infrastructure bank, which was a part of the transportation package. The bank is created and funded, but at a level reduced by the amount of General Fund dollars the governor had proposed. Among items of particular interest to the Eastern Shore was, first and foremost, funding for our resident Circuit Court judge position. A number of people worked very hard to make sure that the need for the funding of this resident judge position was made clear. The positions, which were unfrozen and filled by budget appropriation, will become effective July 1, 2011, and will be filled by the General Assembly during our meeting in April. In addition, the budget also includes an appropriation for the cost overruns for Eastern Shore Regional Jail. Annual scheduled maintenance dredging of Chincoteague Inlet federal navigation channel will remove about 100,000 cubic yards of beach-quality sand, keeping it open and safe for commercial and recreational watercraft. The dredge should not interfere with boaters navigating the channel. The Currituck, scheduled to be onsite for 21 days, is working around-theclock to remove the potential hazards from the channel. The sand the dredge is collecting from the project is being placed just offshore NASA’s Wallops Island facility. Chincoteague Inlet is the gateway to the largest commercial port on the Eastern Shore, handling more than 3,000 vessels a year, including U.S. Coast Guard vessels. The annual project was approved in 1972 by the chief of engineers under the authority of Section 107 of the River and Harbor act of July 14, 1960. Greenbackville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary Greenbackville will host its annual All-You-Can-Eat Beef & Dumpling Dinner, Saturday, March 26, beginning at 4 p.m. The menu also will include clam fritters, mashed potatoes and gravy, stringbeans, cole slaw, rolls, dessert, iced tea and coffee. The cost is $15 for adults, $7.50 for children 6-12, and free for children 5 and under. The event will be held in the department’s Banquet Hall on Ellis Street. For more information, please call Station 2 at 824-5251 or visit www.greenbackvillefire.com An auction will be held Friday, March 18, at Parksley Firehouse Parksley to benefit 30-year-old Nikki Turner, who is battling breast cancer. Chincoteague Handicap Ramp Permits Now Free By Linda Cicoira Chincoteague residents who need handicap ramps installed at their homes will no longer have to pay building permit fees for them. Chincoteague Town Council unanimously voted Monday to abolish the $80 fee. However, residents still have to obtain no-cost permits. Vice Mayor Ellen Richardson suggested that the money already collected be returned. But in the end, Council informally agreed not to refund. The issue came up last month when resident Peggy Thomas asked officials to stop charging for the permits. She complained that it cost her $81.60, yet she heard that someone else didn’t have to pay. Thomas urged Council to treat everyone the same. “It’s impossible to go back,” Councilman John Howard conceded Monday. “It’s difficult, but not impossible,” another member said. Town Attorney Jon Poulson advised them not to start making refunds. The town would “run into a lot of problems when they try to refund money that’s been lawfully collected,” he said. Council also unanimously: •Eliminated building permits for outbuildings that are 200 square feet or smaller. In the past, the town required the permits for structures 150 square feet or larger. Residents still have to purchase a $45 zoning permit for placement of the building. •Vacated a property line between two parcels owned by Ted Daisey, making it one tract to allow him to build a house on Bertie Street. •Voted to apply for a $5,000 matching grant for the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance. •Voted to run water to Donald Leonard Park for landscaping. Town Manager Robert Ritter reported that a census mass mailing would go out in the next two weeks. The mayor told members of the Hi-Y Club from Chincoteague High School that Council will consider giving a donation to the group to help with the cost of 11 students participating in the Model General Assembly in Richmond from April 14-16. Councilman John Howard wants the Public Works Department to stop coming back to the town office to take breaks. He plans to further discuss the issue at next month’s meeting. Councilman John Jester commended local paid and volunteer emergency medical workers. Interim Town Manager Arthur Miles briefly discussed the current status of the project. Noting that the PSA would not be receiving the U.S. Department of Agriculture grant it had sought, Miles said he is in the process of applying for a Virginia Health Department (VHD) grant that could be used to help pay for utility improvements in town. Councilman Charles Massey questioned the status of the derelict building that continues to be an eyesore on Exmore’s south end. The town has been seeking to have the owner of the structure correct the problem or remove the structure, but has yet to meet with success. Massey suggested that the town give the owner a time limit or follow up with legal action. Miles said he would continue to try to resolve the problem with the owner. Storied Resident Honored Carlisle Lamar Nottingham, a 90year-old resident of Heritage Hall in Nassawadox, is featured in the second publication of the Virginia Health Care Association’s Who’s Who in Virginia’s Long Term Care Facilities calendar. The calendar’s theme, “Spirit of Success,” tells of Nottingham’s commitment to his country by joining the military during World War II. After German fighters swarmed and shot down his plane over Belgium, he bailed out, broke his ankle on a tile roof and minutes later found himself a prisoner of war. He was locked up in Stalag Luft III, the setting for “The Great Escape” about 76 POWs who tunneled out. Nottingham was among them. On Jan. 27, 1945, German soldiers whisked the POWs away from a descending Russian army and Nottingham’s school ring was lost. Fifty-seven years later, a young German came into possession of the ring and tracked him down. The Air Force arranged for Nottingham to go to Germany, where the ring was returned. We’re delighted to play a part. ,ΘZůŽĐŬŝƐƉƌŽƵĚƚŽďĞƐƉŽŶƐŽƌŝŶŐƚŚĞĐŽůůĞĐƟŽŶŽĨ^ĐŚŽŽů^ƵƉƉůLJŽŶĂƟŽŶƐ ĨŽƌƚŚĞĐĐŽŵĂĐŬ^ĐŚŽŽůĂŶĚEŽƌƚŚĂŵƉƚŽŶ^ĐŚŽŽůĚŝƐƚƌŝĐƚƐĂƚƚŚĞůŽĐĂů,ΘZůŽĐŬ ůŽĐĂƟŽŶƐůŝƐƚĞĚ͘ ĂůůŽƌǀŝƐŝƚƵƐŶŽǁ͘ hrblock.com | 800-HRBLOCK 36306 LANKFORD HWY | BELLE HAVEN, VA 23306 | 757-442-7700 25375 LANKFORD HWY STE E | ONLEY, VA 23418 | 757-787-2900 22157 LANKFORD HWY | CHERITON,VA 23316 | 757-331-3709 10 • EASTERN SHORE POST • MARCH 11, 2011 OBITUARIES Jamesville Man’s Nephew Dies Mr. William E. “Bill” Savage, 53, of Delmar, Del., died of cancer in Salisbury, Md., Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. Affiliation with the Virginian-Pilot, though limited to the printing aspect, will afford the Eastern Shore Post additional opportunities aimed primarily at technology and marketing. We are excited about the prospect of our new alliance and hope our readers will continue their loyalty to the Post as their source for local news. 24 • EASTERN SHORE POST • MARCH 11, 2011 ...because we’re different.
