Words of Welcome...
Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulations (IPA)
Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA)
On behalf of the the Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulations (IPA) and
the Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA) we would like to give you a very warm
welcome to the 6th Hanover PreMoot. For three days Hanover will become Vindobona,
Danubia.
We are proud to organize and host this event, which has become a well-established
tradition since its first edition in 2007. With 25 participating teams the Hanover
PreMoot is among the largest PreMoots in Europe. Nevertheless, we hope that this
event will still provide you with the honest hospitality in a family-like atmosphere it is
known for. Moreover, we are sure that our PreMoot will serve you with a combination
of an academic and intellectual challenge where you can improve strategic thinking
and experience law in a cross-cultural atmosphere.
For the first time we are hosting an international PreMoot conference as a warm up
for arbitrators and coaches. The topic of this year’s conference is “Arbitrators power
to sanction unethical and illegal behavior.” We are very proud and thankful that we
can present an outstanding penal of international well recognized practitioners with
extended experience in the field of international arbitration. Our deepest thanks go to
Anthony E. Davis, Alexandra Diehl, Lutz Kniprath, Torsten Lörcher, Markus S. Rieder and
Stephan Wilske who all dedicate themselves to our conference. (For more detail see
page 9).
Many thanks also go to all the arbitrators, who devote themselves voluntary to the
great Willem C. Vis Moot Community serving as arbitrators here in Hanover. In each
pleading the mooties will find a tribunal composed of high ranking practitioners and
coaches or former mooties.
The Willem C. Vis Moot is designed to be an educational program with many facets
of real Legal Profession in the form of a competition. Hopefully, this PreMoot will
similarly be an educational and beneficial experience for everyone. Therefore, all teammembers and coaches are encouraged to watch other pleadings when not scheduled to
argue or to arbitrate (and if not forbidden by the rules of the Willem C. Vis Moot).
We hope that the day’s events will not only allow teams to further refine their
arguments and oral presentation but also to get in contact with each other. One
especially will have the opportunity to socialize during the evening reception at the
“Dachgeschoss” on Thursday night and the dinner party at the “GIG” on Friday night.
The first is sponsored by Gleiss Lutz and the second by Göhmann Rechtsanwälte und
Notare. We are very thankful for the support given to us by both law firms.
The PreMoot would not exist in the way it does without the enthusiasm of all
staff members of the Chair for Civil Law, German, European and International Civil
Procedure. It is Christian Wolfs deepest wish to thank all his collaborators for their
outstanding commitment.
May the Hanover PreMoot be one harold for the spirit of the Willem C. Vis Moot in
Hong Kong and Vienna. It is great privilege for us to have you all here in Hanover. We
hope you will enjoy your stay.

About...
Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA)
Hannoverscher Ehemaligenverein des Willem C. Moot Wettbewerbs e.V.
The Hanover Vis Alumni Association e.V. is a forum for former and current
participants of the Willem C. Vis Moot Court and the Willem C. Vis (East)
Moot Court to unite and network. It shall serve as a platform for exchanging
experience and knowledge.
Another major aspect for the Hanover Vis Alumni Association is the ideal
and financial support for the current Vis Moot Team. The participation in the
Willem C. Vis is a unique chance for every student but is also a challenge.
Being aware of that, the Hanover Vis Alumni Association tries to forward
experiences from former team members, having started their career out in
the world already, to the next generation of “Mooties”. Moreover, we are
supporting the Hanover PreMoot by acting as Arbitrators and by organizing
pleadings in Law Firms.
We appreciated that for our former participation in the Willem C. Vis only
personal qualification was decisive but not any personal financial aspects.
Together with the sponsors of the Willem C. Vis we regard it as our duty to
help the next generation of participants to keep it like that.

Special thanks to...
Gleiss Lutz, Stuttgart
Göhmann Rechtsanwälte und Notare, Hanover
The Hanover Vis Moot Team and the Institute for Procedural Law and
Attorney Regulations thanks all Arbitrators and Teams for coming to Hanover
and making the PreMoot such a valuable event.
To make this PreMoot a rememberable experience it needs more than
tremendous arbitrators and perfectly prepared teams. In this regard we would
particularly like to highlight the importance of the funding given to us by our
supporters.
Without the generous support of Gleiss Lutz, Stuttgart and Göhmann
Rechtsanwälte und Notare, Hanover it would have been very difficult for us
to offer you the two evening receptions on Thursday and Friday and therefore
making the 6th Hanover PreMoot a complete event.

University of Tuebingen
Janina Bader
After the second semester, Janina decided to apply for the VIS Moot Court. She regards her admission
to the team as an ambitious challenge and a unique possibility to improve her skills in the scope of
rhetoric, conversation techniques and mediation. The Vis Moot Court gives her the chance to get
practical experience and establish international contacts at an early stage of her studies, which will be
helpful for her future career. Trough her work in the school council, where she organized and performed many events of the student body responsible, Janina realized that the working in a team was an
enrichment of her horizon.

and New Zealand. For his future career, he lays great emphasis on keeping up his international focus.

inalienable to them. During her participation at Model United Nations in The Hague she got to know

to incorporate these gained experiences into the Moot Court.

her focus on international business and private law because she has been at a commercial high school,
