Week 7 Term 3, 2012
Dear Parents and Students,
There is always a great deal to celebrate at the Italian Bilingual School and I recommend you view some of the clips on the school website
listed below.
On Sunday I had the privilege of watching some of our Year 5 and 6 students participate in Tournament of the Minds competition held at the
University of Western Sydney. These students exemplified the essence of IBS in so many ways – their confidence and teamwork was a
delight to watch as they performed their main challenge of piecing together a story to highlight a particular moral based on the characters
from various sources (books, plays, songs - look at the clip and see if you can work out which characters have been chosen from the various
resources).
We have a very giving community here at IBS and I would like to acknowledge Mr Ricci Danieletto who delivered a huge number of
computers and screens to Meadowbank for our use in 2013. I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the uncle of Thomas Chahoud
(Year Four) and Lily Chahoud (Year Two) for supplying five beautiful bookcases that can be used in our new classes next year. A special
mention to Mark Chahoud who hand delivered the shelves on Saturday! Thank You!
There have been some incidents at school over the past few months that have raised some concern for me as the Principal of IBS.
Any issue that directly impacts on our students is always a concern and it is extremely important that the school community understands that
all school matters are delivered with the best interest of the children as a ‘whole’ – it is impossible to cater for individual tastes or desires, so
we strive to work together in harmony and I believe generally we are very successful in achieving great results.
We strive for excellence through bilingualism within a caring and nurturing environment. We are an inclusive community that exhibits core
values of promoting respect for self and others with understanding and tolerance. Great words......but do we ‘walk the talk’? This is something that I offer our students to answer and it is not a one off reply. It is meant to be asked every day and I offer this small video clip as a
stimulus for dialogue – some of the words it suggests are commitment, honesty, accountability, respect, courage, ethics, integrity.
Great words......worth the walk? I think so because they help to shine our lighthouse light beyond the surrounding waters.

SPORT TERM 3- GYMNASTICS
There is one other date where gymnastics will be swapped. Students are required to wear their sports uniform for gymnastics on FRIDAY
14TH SEPTEMBER.
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond their control Activated Group was forced to cancel the gymnastics session at IBS last week.
Parents/caregivers will be invoiced for 9 sessions instead of the original 10.
KINDIFARM Preps and Kindergarten
On Wednesday 29th August, Preps and Kindergarten will be able to enjoy a ”Kindifarm” at our new premises at Meadowbank.
ASISSA ATHLETICS
Students from IBS will be representing the school at the ASSISA Athletics on Thursday 30 th August.
INTERNATIONAL SPORTS DAY – YEARS 3-6
IBS students in Years 3 -6 have been invited by the Sydney Japanese International School to participate in an International Sports Day. This
event will take place on Tuesday 4th September from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Japanese International School in Terrey Hills. The students
have been sent home with the colour of the team in which they will be representing on the day.
YEARS 3,4, 5 & 6 CAMP – MILSON ISLAND
The Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 camp is fast approaching. The students will depart 10th September and return 12th September. Parents please ensure
that if your child requires any medication, it is within its use by date and is clearly labelled with your child’s name. The medication needs to
be given to Maestra Cristina on the morning of departure in a sealed plastic bag or container.
SPORT TERM 4 – SWIMMING K-6 Students
Swimming lessons will commence first week back in Term 4 on Friday 12th October. The Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre is encouraging
Kindergarten students to participate in lessons this year. A letter will be sent home in the coming week giving parents an opportunity to
indicate their child’s swimming ability level. Kindergarten students who do not participate in swimming lessons will remain at school under
teacher supervision as the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre no longer caters for free play in the leisure pool.
