This will be an exciting year to be a member of Sawgrass Country Club as we continue to work our strategic plan and provide outstanding amenities and service for all our members to appreciate and enjoy. We are aware of the high expectations from our members and will be eager to deliver throughout the coming year. In December, the club recognized more of our associates for performance and tenure during an awards evening held at the University of North Florida. Yvette Floyou was recognized for 30 years of service and Deb Jordan was recognized for 15 years of service to Sawgrass Country Club. I must admit, it was a privilege to present this recognition to these employees. We are fortunate to have such dedicated employees here at the Club and they make me proud to be here at Sawgrass Country Club. Also at this event we recognized Meghan Nystrand, one of the club’s bartenders, as our “Employee of the Year” for Sawgrass Country Club. Meghan has been a key component of our team for over three years. Her performance goes beyond just serving drinks. She consistently delivers a positive experience for our members with her professionalism, high standards of service and her bright personality. She is a shining star not only amongst the members but to her coworkers and managers. Please join us in congratulating Meghan for her outstanding performance and contribution to excellence at the club. The South course is open to carts! We have had a terrific fall and winter so far this year. The golfing season is also upon us and normally we are already well into our dormancy time here in North Florida. During this four to six month season the Bermuda grass goes dormant which means it turns brown and doesn’t grow. In our preparation for this, we are requesting that our members heighten self-awareness of our rules on the course and your commitment to appropriately filling your divots and repairing ball marks. I’d like to add that avoiding heavily trafficked areas while traversing the courses in a golf cart can have a meaningful impact on our course conditions throughout Member Services Mary McGarrigle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 273–3703 [email protected] Catering & Special Events Manager Jenna Kirk . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 543–1021 [email protected] Communications Coordinator Kevin Ramsey . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 273–3728 [email protected] Activities and Recreation Coordinator Molly Newsom . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 543-1039 [email protected] Accounts Receivable . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 273-3702 [email protected] Please visit our social media channels to stay in touch with Sawgrass Country Club on a regular basis and to receive updates, pictures, event information, etc. https://www.facebook.com/sawgrasscountryclub https://twitter.com/sawgrasscc http://instagram.com/sawgrasscc https://www.linkedin.com/company/sawgrass–country–club All venues, hours, menus, prices and entertainment are subject to change without notice. 3 Hours of Operations Dining Reservations 273-3736 the winter. The reason we rope the golf course is to manage cart traffic but we would also like to see our golfers using the cart paths as much as possible this time of year. As a group of users, our members’ attitude and concern for the golf course conditions and their role in the maintenance makes a big difference. Please help us have the best conditions possible this year by doing your part. We continue to see progress on our Beach Club Renovation project and we are posting regular updates on our club website if you are interested in seeing the latest updates. We understand our members are eager and expectations are high for a successful completion of the project and a timely opening. We are starting the New Year off with a full schedule of exciting and unusual dining and social events for your enjoyment in January and February. No matter what your preferred choice of fun and entertainment, you will surely find something of interest. Amongst those is a special cooking class and three course meal by our Chef Ben Brett, former Executive Chef at Season 52 on January 7th; a Farm to Table dining event on January 16; Alaskan King Crab Night from the folks on Deadliest Catch on January 23rd and a special dinner prepared by Iron Chef winner, Vincent Horville on January 30th. And just to help you meet your fitness goals after all that fine dining is our Fit Fuel menus and Fitness Challenge at the Fitness Center. In February, two of our big hit events from 2015 are returning, The Chili Cook Off – Blazing Saddles event is February 4th and you won’t want to miss our all new cast for the Dancing with Sawgrass Stars event with Dance Alday Studio on February 20th. We’re just as pleased to offer her first Pro’s Tip: Laura’s Line One of the most important parts of your golf swing is the Grip - the only physical connection you have with the golf club! To start with have your teaching professional make sure you have the right size grip - too narrow your hands will move and too thick you will lose feel, both of which are extremely important part of the golf swing! Once you have determined the right size grip - you then put your hands on club so that the V's formed by your thumb and first finger point over your right shoulder. The thumb and first fingers also form your pinchers which provide so much control of your club face during your swing. I'm often ask how firm to hold the club – hold it as tightly as you would hold a bird that you want to control but not harm. If you start with a tight grip you will loosen it during your swing and conversely if you start with a lose grip you will tighten during your swing. So let's start with the right grip pressure, so you do not have to make adjustments during your swing. Your grip takeaway from the ball sets your tempo and sequence of your entire golf swing. Your grip effects all parts of your golf swing! If you want to hit a fade or draw one of the ways you accomplish this is a slight grip change - strong for a draw and weak for a fade. Always set your club down squarely and then put you hands on the club, that way you grip will remain consistent. And if you want an open club face (like a bunker shot) set the club face open and then put your grip on the club. There are some variations of the grip by some great players - aiming the V's over the right shoulder is just standard. If you have a health reason for a slight variations of a golf grip your teaching professional can help you with that journey. My grip let's my golf club know I'm swinging the club not the club swinging me!
