Preparing for the gala dinner at Zagreb Fair Hypo EXPO XXI and the heated tent on the terrace City showcase The 900-strong International Healthy City Conference was a chance to hold events in many of Zagreb’s most interesting locations Z agreb rose to the occasion when some 900 participants, 65 per cent of them from other countries, attended the World Health Organization’s International Healthy City Conference last October. Among them were city and state dignitaries such as the president of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister of Health & Social Care, along with 65 mayors from cities belonging to the Healthy Cities movement. “Hypo EXPO XXI Conference Centre was the main venue where the extensive scientific programme took place in plenary and parallel sessions,” reports PCO Ljupka Sabovic, director-MICE department, Generalturist Ltd. “Because of the large number of conference rooms required, one plenary and 10 breakouts, we arranged for additional space at the adjacent University Computing Centre. We also added a heated tent on the terrace of the conference centre which served as extra space for lunches and coffee breaks.” The official language of the conference was English, with simultaneous interpretation in Croatian, French, Hungarian, Spanish, Russian and Turkish. The four-day event was the biggest health conference ever organised in Croatia and an opportunity for the many visitors to socialise in a number of Zagreb’s different venues. “As the PCO, the fact that we organised the social programme in five different locations was probably the major challenge for us,” says Sabovic. “Croatia’s rich cultural and historical heritage and also recent achievements were presented through forms of artistic expression together with selected food, beverages and entertainment. “The venues included the concert hall, the museum and the exhibition hall at Zagreb Fair where we created a setting for the gala dinner with a special stage for the entertainment and another luxury tent on the lake. The highlight of that farewell party was a musical firework display. It was a perfect ending to the conference.” Contact Drazen Hochecker Director Zagreb Convention Bureau Tel: +385 1 48 98 555 Fax: +385 1 48 14 340 or 949 Email: [email protected] www.zagreb-convention.hr February 2009 | ami_ 41 Zagreb spotlight.indd 1 28/1/09 13:57:46
