Dear Daisho Con,
We are proud to present Daisho Con 2014!
Daisho Con staff has poured countless hours, blood, sweat
and innumerable caffeinated beverages into this year and we
hope you are ready to enjoy every exhilarating minute of it! As
Con Directors, we want to thank them for their incredible work
and commitment.
This year has had its share of trials, successes and tribulations as every year before but with our 2013 attendance
skyrocketing, we wanted to make 2014 a year of evolution for
Daisho Con. We promised to make this year bigger and better
and we are going to deliver with more cosplay prizes, more
video game consoles, more rave bass and more glorious nerdity than our past years’ ever could have fathomed.
We want to thank you- the attendees- for your new and
continued support in Daisho Con’s journey. It is because of
you that we can keep taking steps to transform the Midwest
convention scene for the better and to make the most of our
potential!
Daisho Con 2014- We are saluting our roots and moving
forward into the many brilliant years to come! Now let’s get this
action-packed weekend started!
Sincerely,
Meagan Hoffmann and Missy Brightside
Your Drift-Compatible Con Directors of 2014

Ashly Burch is a voice actor, writer and
raps about representation and issues of gender
and identity in the games industr y. Well, she
doesn’t actually rap, she just speaks about
it. She thought saying the word “rap” would
make her culturally relevant. She realizes she’s
failing.
Ashly is best known as the star, writer and
co-creator for the web series “Hey Ash, Whatcha
Playin’?” and as the voice of Tiny Tina in Borderlands 2.
She is also the voice of Sasha Braus in

Cosplay Contest
Rules
Costumes :
j j Your costume must be appropriate for a public setting.
j j Your costume must conform to any active regulations enforced by either
j j Daisho Con Staff or Hotel Security.
j j You are required to make at least half of your costume; no more than half
your costume is to be store bought.
j j Please keep in mind that the stage is raised as well. If your costume is
ungainly or hard to walk in, we will have staff present to help you up and
down the stairs. If this is still not enough please notify staff if you need
extra assistance, we will organize a different way for you to present your
costume.
Props
j j Your prop must conform to any active regulations enforced by either
Daisho Con Staff or Hotel Security.
j j No Live Steel (Metal weapons of any kind, especially not sharp ones.)
j j No Real Firearms, Realistic Facsimile Firearms, or Strung Bows.
j j You must be able to safely carry your prop around the con-space
without risk of any kind of injury to you or others- this is doubly enforced
when it comes to walking on stage.
j j If you are unsure of your prop, go to the Control Room and request a
staff member inside to clear or veto the prop.
j j Daisho Con Staff reserves the right to confiscate any weapon or prop
deemed hazardous to congoers or staff.
j j Be responsible with your props.
Entries
You will enter as an Individual Entry or Group Entry. Groups consist of 3 or
more cosplayers competing together. Individual Entries will be judged on
their own merit; Group Entries will be judged on the whole entry.
The Competition
There are four separate categories for the Individual and Group Entry:
j j Chibi – You will compete here if you are under 10 years old.
j j Beginner – You will compete here if you are new to Cosplay Contests or
have won few awards when competing.
27
Cosplay Contest
j j Advanced – You will compete here if you are experienced in Cosplay
Contests and have won few to several awards when competing.
jj Master – You will compete here if you are highly experienced in Cosplay
Contests and have won few to several awards when competing. If you
have ever won Best in Show at Daisho Con, you have to compete
in the Advanced or Master Category. For the Master Category, the
Creativity Section will be judged at a heavier scale. It will be worth more
points because it is assumed that you entered the Master Category with
experience at hand, aware of what category you have entered, or you
have won other awards and cannot compete in other categories.
Performances
Performances can be 3 - 4 minutes long. If you have a longer performance,
please contact the Cosplay Staff so we can handle it on a case-by-case
basis.
The performance must be appropriate for a public setting, please no overuse of “curse” words or profanity, there will be children present for this
contest.
Pre-Judging/Judging
You will be judged on the following categories:
j j Difficulty
j j Presentation
j j Craftsmanship
j j Creativity
Remember to bring a reference pictures for your Cosplay. Printed Pictures, Phones, Laptops, anything in which the judges can use to judge the
accuracy of your costume. If you are entering as an Original Character,
please provide reference material for what inspired the character/ what
look you were trying to go for. If you fail to bring reference material, this will
result in losing ¼ of your points from your total score.
Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled Pre-Judging time so we
can get you checked in and lined up
Performance
You will be judged on the following Performance Categories:
j j Stage Presence – Comfort level on stage, delivery of lines.
j j Crowd Reaction – How much did the audience like your performance?
28
Cosplay Contest
Even if you are not doing a skit, you will still be judged on stage presence and crowd reaction and this will be totaled into your final score.
j j No unnecessary staff/congoers are allowed in the Judging Room.
j j If you have audio, you must turn in your music to the cosplay sound
technician immediately after you are pre-judged. (See below for more
details.)
The Contest
j j If you have music or an audio file you will be using for your performance,
we will have a member of staff present to cut it down to size.
Please Note: Only .mp3 formats can be used in our contest, they must
be easy to use and readily available when you show up for Craftsmanship
Judging. What this means is that you must have your music or performance on a
thumb-drive or on a CD so that we can access it using our computers. Do not
bring iPods or iPhones because we cannot pull music off either of these.
j j We encourage all performances to have their speaking audio prerecorded. It’s not required, but that may change in the future.
j j Our tech staff reserves the right to edit or cut portions of your presented
audio with or devices without special software or equipment and without
your notice. Please clearly define start and stop times on all music files.
If you are unable to edit them yourself, you must provide a clearly typed
document with the editing times and bring it with you to your judging time.
Handwritten notes will not be accepted. If you are unable to provide
a note, play will begin from the beginning of the first available track or
file presented. Our tech staff will provide basic cutting only! Advanced
editing must be done on your own time as there will not be time during
judging.
j j If you are or were a member of Daisho Con Staff for the 2014 Conference
Year, you cannot enter the contest. If you have made costumes for other
people who might be competing, they can enter the contest, but they
cannot win any awards.
j j If half or more of the currently competing group has won Best in Show the
year before, the group cannot win Best in Show for the current year, but
they are able to win in any other category. Cosplayers cannot win the
same award 2 years in a row.
29
Cosplay Contest
j j The Judges reserve the right to bump you up or down a Craftsmanship
level if they feel it is necessary.
j j If you are not a cosplayer that is participating in the Contest, you are
not allowed to loiter outside or be in the Green Room. Please take care
of any business you may have with the contestants outside of this area
before 5:15pm. To make this run smoothly, we need the Green Room to
be organized and free of unnecessary persons.

Sunday 11:00AM-12:00PM - Daishotorium
The Daisho Show is back for another exciting and talent-filled year! Do you
have any talents you'd like to show off to a fun-loving crowd of encouraging

Live. If you are looking for a place to strut that stuff of yours, look no further.
The Daisho Show is an open event where you can perform any tricks and talents
you're itching to get out there.
To ensure we keep up with the fun and good-times, we’ll be abiding by the following:
j j Acts must be no longer than 5 minutes long.
j j The use of swearing, racial slurs, etc. will not be tolerated.
j j Sign-ups will be on a first come, first serve basis – and will be performed
in that order. If you have somewhere else you'd like to be, it is your
responsibility to reserve an early time.
j j Acts that involve music must be in either mp3 format or be burned to a
CD-Rom.
j j Acts that involve music should have their music given to Daisho Show

Story Synopsis
Our story begins in Daisho Con Year 1. The ever-vigilant hero of Daisho,
Stevie Musashi, is set to appear at the convention. But when the time comes,
Stevie is nowhere to be found. A mysterious letter is delivered to the Con
Directors from an organization known as the D4C, claiming that they have taken
Stevie hostage.
In Year 2, the face of the D4C is revealed as the villain Darth Esknegreb
and his hapless assistant Red Shirt. The duo revealed that Stevie has indeed
been captured and was being held in a bathroom stall. The other heroes of
Daisho, Daisho Ninja and Corporate Fanboy, worked frantically to track down
the dog-eared samurai and were eventually able to free him.
Dissonance formed between our heroes as Year 3 erupts into Civil War.
Corporate Fanboy became suspicious of Daisho Ninja, believing that she
was scheming to take Stevie away from him. The arguing escalated and drove
Corporate Fanboy into the arms of a malicious organization led by a man called
the CEO. Using a mind control device, the CEO attempted to overpower the
other two heroes, but was thwarted when Corporate Fanboy resisted enough to
defeat him at the cost of his life.
In Year 4, Corporate Fanboy returned as a cyborg weapon called Zealot
created by an unknown person. He appeared as Stevie and Daisho Ninja were
dealing with Darth Esknagreb’s latest plot to take over Daisho Con; miniature
mind control devices hidden inside badges. Esknagreb was easily defeated, but
Zealot proved to be a remarkable foe. The battle was only won when Zealot
realized his true self as Corporate Fanboy and self-destructed in order to save
his friends.
Year 5 introduced a new threat to Daisho Con in the form of an overlyobsessed Stevie fan girl by the name of Mary Sue, who possessed an incredibly powerful pen that made all she had written to come true provided it was in
the form of a fan fiction. Mary Sue believed that Daisho Ninja was the only obstacle between her and Stevie, and tried to get rid of her through any means
necessary. However, true love managed to defeat her in the form of her new
boyfriend, Gary Stu.

Story Synopsis
In Year 6, the mantle of Daisho Ninja was finally being passed down to
the next generation. However, the ceremony was interrupted by Esknagreb, who
declared via a long-winded speech, that he had new plans to take over Daisho.
Before he could get far, a mysterious figure was revealed. A young woman who
called herself Pandora boldly stated that she would become the new Daisho
Hero. As her first act of heroism, Pandora stabbed Esknegreb in the back, leading to his death. A distraught Red Shirt vowed that he would avenge his master ’s
death by destroying the Con. Due to her extremist ideas, Pandora was rejected
by Stevie and Daisho Ninja to be a hero.
Pandora was later found by Red Shirt, who revealed that Esknagreb wasn’t
the one he truly worked for, and that his employers only known as the Corporation wished to offer her a job. Pandora willingly accepted, and headed off with
Red Shirt to find her destiny elsewhere…
Be sure to be present at Opening Ceremonies (Friday, 4PM), the Cosplay
Contest(Saturday, 6PM), and Closing Ceremonies(Sunday, 3PM) to catch the

VIP Special Thanks
VIP members get access to special perks not available to anybody else,
including early access to the vendor room, priority seating for the cosplay contest and other main events, along with a special Meet and Greet with some of
our talented guests!
If you’re interested in Daisho Con VIP program, watch for the updates on our website
to register for the next year, and see what perks we come up with next!
VIP members are those congoers that give a little bit extra to help make our
convention even better. We’re proud to announce these members that helped
us achieve our goals even faster.
