Dear Member,
Tanglewood at Boca West … WOW
what a night! It was another amazing
event and what better way to end the
season then with a bang … or should I say
bang, bang, bang due to the spectacular
fireworks display at the end of the concert.
This year more than 1,500 of you and your
guests enjoyed the music of the Lynn University
Philharmonia conducted by Dr. Jon Robertson.
It’s wonderful when I see you celebrating the holidays
with your family. Please be reminded that photographs
are taken at every event. Photo albums for dining and
social events are located in the Club Services office.
Sporting event photos are available in their respective
areas. You may also view all the club photos on the
website as well as place reprint orders right online!
New this season - instant reprints from all the events
are now available! Stop by the Club Services office …
it only takes a few moments.
Boca West goes to the races! Well actually, we’ll be airing
The Kentucky Derby on May 1 and The Preakness on
May 15 in Onyx Lounge. Stop by after 5 p.m. to enjoy
the race while enjoying some specially priced cocktails!
Our summer guest policies in the golf, tennis
and fitness departments go into full swing
this month! For complete details check with
each department or you may also contact the
Membership department and they will be
happy to review them with you. The golf
reciprocal program goes into effect next
month. More details will be available soon!
I am looking forward to seeing all of you Moms at the Mother’s
Day Brunch on Sunday, May 9 in the Hibiscus Dining Room
where we will have no boundaries on pampering each and
every one of you! Please call 483-6300 to reserve your table.
Whether you spend it here or elsewhere, I wish all Mothers
a beautiful day spent with family and friends!
I am so proud of our PGA teaching professional, Chris Czaja,
on his recent award. I know you will join me in congratulating
Chris being named Teacher of the Year Southeast Chapter
South Florida PGA 2009. Read all about it in the golf section
of this issue!
As always, I appreciate your suggestions and comments and look
forward to seeing you at the Club. Have a wonderful healthy and
happy summer, wherever you may be … hopefully here!
Sincerely,
Jay DiPietro, CCM
President and General Manager

POOL/ PILATES
It has been said that the most effective clinician is the clinician who has several
different ways to provide a desired treatment outcome. Treatment interventions at
the Palm Beach Institute of Sports Medicine all carry the same motor control theme
but can be varied to meet the patient’s interests and expectations. Movement is the
stimulus for life and health and serves as the core ingredient to the treatment efforts
provided by the physical therapists at Boca West. Said succinctly, there is no cookie
cutter approach utilized by our therapists when treating patients.
At the Palm Beach Institute of Sports Medicine we pride ourselves in starting with the
foundation of sound movement strategies by establishing stability. Stability is often
compromised by pain, prolonged immobilization, trauma, and disease. Instability about the
spine or extremities gives way to a vicious cycle of more pain, compensated movement
patterns, and accelerated degenerative changes. Hence our movement strategies must
consider stability as the key initial component to our rehabilitation procedures.

f i t n ess & aquat ics
Here is where our therapy may drastically differ from others. We can
apply treatment that is more traditional -- fitness and weight based,
mat table and body weight oriented -- or by employing treatment using
aquatic and Pilates disciplines. Often a blend or hybrid program works
best as it is critical that for sustained relief and good health the patient
must be able to carry forward in managing their own program upon
discharge from physical therapy. Land, water, weights, cardiopulmonary,
core, aquatics, Pilates, balance, endurance, and posture serve as
considerations for each patient whose care we manage.
Aquatic physical therapy at our east location on the FAU campus
provides a special experience and is unique. A pool designed specifically
with rehabilitation in mind, our HydroWorx pool “just works better”. The
staple of the system is the underwater treadmill. Parallel bars extend
walking stability while buoyancy created in the water environment
reduces most of the compressive forces of one’s body weight. An
underwater video system extends patient-therapist viewing of the
movement below the water’s surface and provides recording capability
for physician evaluation. Water spinal traction and water massage along
with a ceiling suspended lift system rounds out this very spectacular
rehabilitation experience.
The Pilates treatment experience is showcased by the studio reformers.
This equipment extends tremendous stability, posture education, and
general exercise capabilities in a smooth and non-threatening system
designed by Joseph Pilate over fifty years ago.
Pools … Pilates … Physical Therapy all come together at Boca West with
our members’ best health and interest in mind.
To schedule an appointment for a free injury assessment or treatment
in Physical Therapy, please stop by our office in the Boca West Fitness
Center or phone 488-7882.

Hot, summer days
By Steve Siegel, Golf Committee Chairman
The winter season is behind us and the summer heat
lies ahead. Every year some of us forget to prepare ourselves for the
effects of the sun. Always remember to use sunscreen, drink plenty of
fluids, stop your activity if you feel you need to. Hats can be very helpful
to combat the sun’s rays.
Our summer reciprocal program will begin in June. We hope to have
an expanded list of area country clubs for you to enjoy. A complete list
will be posted around the shop and on Channel 63 as soon as each
agreement is signed.
We have noticed more and more tees, both broken and not, being left on the tee
boxes. Please pick up your tees and help us keep our courses looking pristine.
For those looking to entertain at home, our summer guest days begin this month.
Please read the information below so you become familiar with guest days policies.

Rules Corner
Q: Outside a hazard, the player took his stance but did not ground his club. The ball moved.
What is the ruling?
A: As the player had not addressed the ball, he did not incur a penalty under Rule 18-2b. If,
however, the player caused the ball to move, he was subject to penalty and the ball should
not have been replaced.
Rule 18 - Ball Moves After Player Grounds Club But Before Stance Completed
Q: A player’s routine prior to making a stroke is as follows: He first grounds the club directly
behind the ball with his feet together. Then he gradually widens his feet to shoulder width.
At that point, he makes the stroke.
If the ball moves after he grounds the club but before he widens his stance to shoulder
width, does he incur a penalty stroke under Rule 18-2b (Ball Moving After Address)?
A: No. A player has not addressed the ball until he completes taking his stance, i.e., his feet
are essentially in the position in which he normally places them when taking a stroke.
However, if the ball moved after the club was grounded but before the player had
completed taking his stance, he incurs a penalty stroke under Rule 18-2a for having caused
the ball to move and must replace the ball, unless there is strong evidence that wind or
some other agency caused the ball to move.
Rule 18 - When Club Grounded in Grass
Tournaments
Q: When is a club considered grounded in long grass?
A: When the grass is compressed to the point where it will support the weight of the club.
Reservation forms available in the
Golf shop and on the Club’s website
Rule 18 - Placing Clubhead on Ground in Front of Ball When Addressing
Memorial Day Tournament
Sunday, May 30
7:30 a.m. breakfast – 8:15 a.m.
shotgun – Best Ball format
Entry deadline: Sunday, May 16
Q: A player takes his stance and places his clubhead on the ground in front of the ball
without pressing anything down. Before the player grounds the club behind the ball, the
ball moves. Has the player “addressed the ball” so that he is subject to penalty under Rule
18-2b?
A: Yes.
Rule 18 - Ball Perched on Heather Moves When Club Rested on Heather
Q: A’s ball is perched on a tuft of heather. He takes his stance and rests his club on the
heather behind the ball. The ball moves. What is the ruling?
A: Resting the club on heather or grass behind the ball constitutes grounding it.
Accordingly, A had addressed the ball and Rule 18-2b applies. A incurs a penalty stroke and
must replace his ball.
Rule 18 - Ball Moves After Player Addresses It and Then Steps Away
Q: A player takes his stance and grounds his club. Realizing that the ball is precariously
balanced and may move, he steps away from the ball and starts again. This time he does
not ground his club, but before he strikes the ball, it moves. What is the ruling?
A: The player incurs a penalty stroke under Rule 18-2b, and the ball must be replaced.

It is now easier than ever for a first year lessee to see that NOTHING compares
to the Boca West experience!
Your Board has voted to allow FIRST YEAR lessees a price break in dues.
They will no longer pay the 30% surcharge that is applied to a returning lessee.
There will also be no time restrictions based on the type of dues they pay
and membership they choose.
We have notified the realtors of this new plan. Share this with your friends
and let them know how easy it is to experience your Club.
Exact membership fees for the 2010/11 fiscal year will be available
approximately the second week of July.

MCB Program I- Kravis Center,
November 19 - $85
Mel Brooks - Young Frankinstein,
Broward Center - October 7 - $99
The classic Mel Brooks movie is ALIVE...
and it’s headed here! You’ll have a
monstrously good time at this spectacular
new production, winner of the 2008 Outer
Critics Circle Award. Don’t miss the
sensational cast delivering all your favorite
moments from the classic film, plus
brand-new show-stopping numbers for
the stage, including “Transylvania
Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and
“Puttin’ on the Ritz.” This wickedly
inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein
legend follows bright young Dr.
Frankenstein as he attempts to create a
monster--but not without scary and
hilarious complications. The brains
behind the laughter is mad genius and
three- time Tony® winner Mel Brooks
himself--who wrote the music and lyrics
and co-wrote the book- along with his
record-breaking team from The
Producers: five-time Tony-winning
director and choreographer Susan
Stroman and three-time Tony-winning
writer, Thomas Meehan.
Burn The Floor - Broward Center November 18 - $95
From Harlem's hot nights at The Savoy,
where dances such as the Lindy, Foxtrot
and Charleston were born, to the Latin
Quarter where the Cha-Cha, Rumba and
Salsa steamed up the stage, Burn the
Floor takes audiences on a journey
through the passionate drama of dance.
The elegance of the Viennese Waltz, the
exuberance of the Jive, the intensity of
the Paso Doble - audiences will
experience them all, as well as the
Tango, Samba, Mambo, Quickstep, and
Swing. It’s Ballroom dance with a sexy
21st century edge.

MCB Program II - Kravis Center January 28 - $85
Features the Company Premiere of Jerome
Robbins’ Fanfare – a tribute to Queen
Elizabeth II, with its premiere having taken
place on the night of her coronation in 1953.
It is an enchantingly bright and goofy take
on Benjamin Britten’s “Young Person’s
Guide to the Orchestra.” Also on this
program are two George Balanchine
pieces, which include the sensual Bugaku
and the lively Western Symphony.
Will highlight the Company Premiere of
Twyla Tharp’s Baker’s Dozen, where she
flings a dozen dancers onto the stage –
hustling, spinning, shimmying, yet
romantically inclined – to the irresistible
stride piano of the immortal Willie
“The Lion” Smith. Also appearing are
Balanchine’s dramatic La Sonnambula and
Balanchine’s exceptional Stravinsky Violin
Concerto.
Rock of Ages- Broward Center December 30 - $97
West Side Story
- Broward Center February 17 - $99

famous rock club, they fell in love to the
greatest songs of the 80s. It’s ROCK OF
AGES, an arena-rock love story told
through the mind-blowing, face-melting
hits of JOURNEY, NIGHT RANGER, STYX,
REO SPEEDWAGON, PAT BENATAR,
TWISTED SISTER, POISON, ASIA,
WHITESNAKE and many more. Don’t miss
this awesomely good time about dreaming
big, playing loud and partying on!
Les Miserables- Broward Center January 20 - $99
Cameron Mackintosh presents a brand
new 25th anniversary production of Boublil
& Schönberg’s legendary musical, LES
MISÉRABLES, with glorious new staging

This new production has already been
acclaimed by critics, fans and new
audiences and is breaking box office
records wherever it goes. Based on Victor
Hugo’s classic novel, LES MISÉRABLES is
an epic and uplifting story about the
survival of the human spirit. The
magnificent score of LES MISÉRABLES
includes the classic songs “I Dreamed a
Dream,” “On My Own,” “Stars,” “Bring
Him Home,” “Do You Hear the People
Sing?,” “One Day More,” “Empty Chairs at
Empty Tables,” “Master Of The House”
and many more.
More than fifty years
ago one musical
changed theater
forever. Now it’s back
on Broadway
mesmerizing audiences
once again. From the
first note to the final
breath, WEST SIDE
STORY soars as the
greatest love story of
all time. Directed by
its two-time Tony
Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents,
WEST SIDE STORY remains as powerful,
poignant and timely as ever. The new
Broadway cast album of WEST SIDE
STORY recently won the 2010 Grammy
Award for Best Musical Show Album.
The Bernstein and Sondheim score is
considered to be one of Broadway’s finest
and features such classics of the American
musical theatre as “Something's Coming,”
“Tonight,” “America,” “I Feel Pretty” and
“Somewhere.”
MCB Program III - Kravis Center March 4 - $85
Spotlights Paul Taylor’s Promethean Fire
– a work that has been suggested to be
Taylor’s response to 911. Set to Leopold
Stokowski’s magnificent orchestral
transcriptions of Bach, it has been hailed
everywhere as a masterpiece. The program
also includes Balanchine’s high spirited
Scotch Symphony and Tharp’s jazzy Nine
Sinatra Songs.
MCB Program IV – Kravis Center April 1 - $85
Is the Company Premiere of John Cranko’s
acclaimed full-evening version of the
world’s most famous love story, Romeo
and Juliet. According to The New York Times,

of Prokofiev’s celebrated score. An
unforgettable ballet.

[ ch a ir m a n’s Let t er]
fr om t he d e sk o f har v e y k r auser
I want to thank the Board of Governors
for having elected me again to serve
as your Chairman.
I will continue to keep you up-dated
on the discussions of the Board on
Channel 63 and by e-mails. You know that each time I communicate
with you I always say. “Don’t you just love
being here at Boca West? I do”.
I thought you might like to know why
I just love being here.
It all started 29 years ago when Maddy & I bought a place
in Peppertree with our 3 young children. I honestly was
not in favor of doing this. I was working up north and knew
that we would only come down when our children were on
school vacation, but Maddy felt that we should do it anyway.
At about that time a friend of mine was diagnosed with a
fatal disease and died shortly after. He was only in his mid
40s. This really made me stop and ask myself what am
I waiting for? As much as I hated to admit it, Maddy was
right in saying “Let’s enjoy while we can, you never know
what can happen”.
Our first year we only came here for the Christmas vacation.
At that time we played a lot of tennis and were so impressed
with the set up. With the wonderful golf facilities here,
we also decided to take up golf. The kids loved it also and
looked forward to coming to Florida. All of the sudden
we started coming down every time our children were
on vacation. I found myself saying let’s go to Florida for
a long weekend and before we knew it the weekend
became 5 to 7 days. We were now ”snow flakes”. We had great family vacations and thought
that once our children were in college they
no longer would want to vacation with us.
WRONG. Between the Pool, Tennis, Golf,
Basketball, etc. they still came down as often
as possible. They loved it here. What a
blessing it was to have them here with us.
As we met and became friendly with
other Boca West members and our
children were grown, we started coming
down more often and were now on our
way to becoming “snow birds”.
Once our children got married they still came down with
their wives. Between the tennis, golf and sunning at the pool,
it was a perfect place for them. When we became grandparents we decided to move to a
larger place so that we could accommodate the entire family,
so we bought in Island Court.
Fifteen years ago when we decided to move to Florida
permanently we thought it would be wise to look at other
communities since Boca West was an older community and
we were concerned about their upgrading our current facilities.
We saw some beautiful new and more modern homes, which
quite frankly were very tempting. But they didn’t have that
“Boca West Lifestyle”. So here we are 15 years later living in the # 1 community
with the most modern and outstanding amenities.
I hope you can see why I feel so positive about Boca West.
Perhaps your experience is similar. Let us hear about it.
SOOOOO … I ask you, Don’t you just love being here
at Boca West? I do.
