Does it make sense to entrust those who are immoral in private with the power to determine the nation’s moral issues and, indeed, its destiny? One of the most dangerous and terrifying trends in America today is the disregard for character as a central necessity in a leader’s credentials. THANK YOU FROM ZETA GRAHAM “My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.” Henry Ford It is an honor and privilege to thank everyone who helped me celebrate my 90th April Fool’s day birthday party on April 2. What a joy visiting family, former school students and friends. I was blessed to have my sister, Betty, from Glendive, Montana and a brother and nephew from Grand Junction and Fruita, Bill and his son Clifford. Another brother Richard and sister-in-law from Lake Havasu City and Tucson, Arizona were unable to come. Our fifth sibling, Douglas, died in 2002. I was honored also to have in attendance families of husband, Jim’s, two brothers Ross and Gene, coming from the Colorado Springs and Denver areas and his sister, Margaret’s son from Long Beach, California. Attending were some from California to Vermont and many from all parts of Colorado. Very special in attendance were my son, Don from Gunnison and son, daughter-in‘love’and wonderful granddaughters, Caroline and Natalia from Montrose. Many of my former students bringing great memories of our school days. I can’t even imagine where I would be were it not for friends, relatives, and students, (I hope all friends) who have given me so much through sorrows and joy. Thank you, all of you, I am very Blessed. COLORADO DIVISION OF INSURANCE RECOGNIZES THE LASTING IMPACT OF NATION’S FOREMOST HURRICANE FORECASTER, CSU PROFESSOR EMERITUS DR. WILLIAM GRAY Fortunately, we don’t get hurricanes in Colorado. But many people may not realize that our hurricane-free state was home to the nation’s foremost hurricane forecaster, Dr. William (Bill) Gray. He passed away on Saturday, April 16. A professor emeritus of atmospheric science at Colorado State University (CSU), Dr. Gray had developed a better way of forecasting Atlantic storms. In 1984, he started seasonal hurricane forecasts, a practice that CSU continues to this day. In fact, CSU issued its most recent forecast on April 14, which cites five hurricanes, 12 named storms, 50 named storm days, 20 hurricane days, two major hurricanes and four major hurricane days predicted for the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season. Dr. Gray’s methods are now also used by other institutions including the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Such forecasts are very important to the insurance industry because they help to predict potential impact and losses from hurricanes. According to a statement from CSU, Dr. Gray graduated 70 master's and Ph.D students; many of his students are now prominent in the field of tropical meteorology. The Colorado Division of Insurance, part of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), pays its respects to Dr. Gray and his family, and honors the work he did at CSU. His work impacted many people across the globe, and will continue to do so for years to come. page 5 JR COLL ISION CE NTER T RU S T O U R H I G H LY E X P E R I E N C E D T E C H N I C I A N S !
