Visit Stirling Castle, Stirling Castle is a great symbol of Scottish independence & a source of national pride. Knights, nobles and foreign ambassadors once flocked to the Royal Court at Stirling Castle to revel in the castle’s grandeur. A place of power, beauty and history, discover the favored residence of Scotland’s Kings and Queens Follow this visit by stopping at the Wallace Monument. The Wallace Monument is dedicated to Sir William Wallace and it over-looks the battlefield of Stirling Bridge. STIRLING EXCURSION This afternoon, enjoy a be my guest welcome lunch. Afterwards, travel to the Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre. Learn about the history of Scotland in the year 1314. It was the Battle of Bannockburn that Robert Bruce, King of Scots, would face down the English army led by Edward II. Arrive back at your hotel later this evening. MUNGO’S GEORGE SQUARE (WHERE CLAIRE AND FRANK GOT ENGAGED) This afternoon, travel through the breathtaking ‘Glen of the Weeping’ at Glencoe and discover more about the history of the clans, the tragic massacre that took place here and life in the highlands. Arrive at your hotel later this evening. Later, board the ferry to Armadale. When you arrive at the Isle of Skye, enjoy some of the sights that the Isle of Skye has to offer. GLENFINNAN VIADUCT ISLE OF SKYE This afternoon, enjoy a scenic drive out to Dunvegan Castle, the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland, which has been the ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod for 800 years. Later this evening, enjoy the view of the stars as the Isle of Skye is known to be quite isolated from the light pollution of the major cities of Europe. The setting of this castle is so striking that it has been used many times in the filming of television series as well as major motion pictures EILEAN DONAN CASTLE Continue on to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness. This is also the event which forced Claire and Jamie to say their goodbyes. CULLODEN BATTLEFIELD MEMORIAL Go in search of the mysterious Craigh Na Dun with a visit to the Clava Cairns dating back to the Bronze Age. Later this afternoon, visit Castle Fraser, an atmospheric baronial castle dating back to the 15th century and ancestral home of the Fraser family. Explore the gardens and enjoy panoramic views from the round tower. Later arrive in the city of Dundee for an overnight stay. Here discover more about the Glorious Revolution of the 1688 and the Jacobite supporter Boinne Dundee. His leather ‘bullet-proof’ jacket and boots are on display in the exhibition at Glamis. The ‘Old Pretender’ King James VIII visited Glamis and it was in the chapel here that he touched people for the “King’s evil”, which was the belief that Stuart monarchs had healing powers. GLAMIS CASTLE Later this afternoon, travel to St. Andrews, the home of golf and Scotland’s oldest university, for a look around. See Claire’s herb garden and Geillis Duncan’s home in the beautifully preserved 16th century town center. Visit Edinburgh Castle, which is a fortress that dominates the skyline of the city from its position atop of the volcanic castle Rock. Few of the present buildings pre-date the Lang Siege of the 16th century, when the medieval fortifications were largely destroyed by artillery bombardment. The most notable exceptions are St Margaret’s Chapel, which dates from the early 12th century and is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, the Royal Palace, and the early-16th-century Great Hall.
