Two unique yet similar Boston based bands on this new split fulllength album. Both of these bands exist on the fringe of musical
categorization but basically fall within the realm of Acoustic, Folk
and Gypsy Punk. ABSINTHE ROSE is a newer Boston area band,
the brainchild of singer/songwriter/guitarist Kimbo Rose and was
originally established in Medford/Ashland Oregon during the
summer of 2008. After relocating to Boston, MA in 2009 she began
working with a rhythm section consisting of well-seasoned Boston
area music veterans. HUMANWINE is a longstanding Boston
local favorite with core members M@ McNiss and Holly Brewer
accompanied by a revolving cast of musicians since their inception
in 2002. Though not a band that pursues or cares for mainstream
attention they have gained a large local following and have been
nominated and won many Boston area music awards over the years.
Both bands have strong DIY ethic and mix many various styles of
music with political, personal and apocalyptic subject matter.

“Say what? Doom-laden reggae? Ska with crust overtones? From a purely visual
standpoint, it was pretty easy to write this band off, or at least assume I knew
exactly what I was getting. You know: brutal name in scary font. Dead bird on
cover. Skull on back cover. LP version on Profane Existence, et cetera. This is me
generalizing, right? The jaded reviewer who’s heard it all. Then I put the CD in the
player and for a few minutes I’m hearing pretty much what I expected. Then the
third song, “World War 3 Is Coming” hits my ears and… they’re playing reggae. Yes,
it’s filtered through back patches and a big love for AMEBIX. Yes, the guy’s still
belting his guts out. Yes, their pedals are still in the red. But I’ll be goddamned if
they’re not playing a weird reggae/ska/crust amalgamation on at least half of this
record. And I’m not talking CITIZEN FISH “clean guitars with horns” either – this
stuff’s ugly. It’s dark, dense, and simultaneously manages to be toe-tapping and
mired neck-deep in gloom. Lyrics are despondent and generally pretty fucking
hopeless. While they’re are moments on DFT that aren’t quite as successful, there’s
a lot more that showcases a band that’s just on, and doing it by melding two genre I
wouldn’t have tried pairing up in a million years. So if you want to measure a band’s
success by radio play and online downloads this won’t do much for you. But if you
want to measure success by the fact that they’ve consistently engaged the listener
and kept shit really interesting throughout fourteen songs, the MOUTH SEWN

Over the years TOXIC NARCOTIC has gained a reputation for
extremely tight and energetic live shows. This DVD captures the
true aggression and brutality of a TOXIC NARCOTIC show (with
no overdubs) in a way that none of their studio albums have done so
far. Boston’s longest standing DIY Hardcore Punk band filmed live
at their fifteenth anniversary show on Dec 18th 2004. Filmed with
five camera angles and the audio was multi tracked with a mobile
recording truck. This is a one hundred percent DIY DVD produced
and released by the band on their own label but looks and sounds
totally professional like any major label live video with plenty
audience participation in the final edit this video is sure to become a
classic. And of course let’s not forget the real stars of this video— the
Boston Punk and Hardcore scene!

THE VARUKERS are one of the UK’s longest standing anarcho-punk
bands remaining relevant and active for all these years! Formed in
