A Message From Linda and Mario
Seven years have come and gone since our daughter Chrissy left this world, but her wish to find peace of mind will
continue to live on!
Chrissy died on July 25, 2006, taking a large part of our lives with her, and leaving us with a deep insight into the
world of mental illness and the immediate need for research. On behalf of the millions of people who continue to struggle
with a mental illness, and in honor of Chrissy, who despite her brief 26 years on this earth, and who continues to open
minds, hearts & eyes to the torments of mental illnesses, we thank each and everyone for your support, contributions,
and prayers.
Weeks after Chrissy’s death, and after speaking with the American Mental Health Association, we chose to partner
with the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, formerly NARSAD. BBRF is a non- profit 501(c)3 charity where 100%
of EVERY DOLLAR donated goes directly to mental health research in the form of NARSAD Grants. These grants
have lead to discoveries in understanding causes and improving treatments of disorders in children and adults, such as
depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, autism, ADHD and anxiety disorders such as OCD and Post Traumatic Stress

Since the inception of Chrissy’s Wish Memorial Fund, and thanks to the generosity of so many, we have been able to
donate over $370,000 to mental health research, yet, so much more is needed!
The sad fact is that every person, whether personally, or through a loved one or close friend, HAS or WILL be affected
by a mental illness. One in every four people in the U.S. are diagnosed with a mental illness each year, but how many
people don’t reach out for help and are not even part of this statistic? It’s also a sad fact that the medical and research
community do not fully understand the complexities of the brain, and therefore cannot effectively treat many of the illnesses. The answer is research, and research takes money!
Through these last seven years we have walked a very different road and have viewed this world through very different eyes. We have spoken to people who struggle from the illness,with families who have lost children or other family
members, and have cried & prayed with them with the hope of a better tomorrow…one that truly is a “world without
mental illness”.
It is our hope that through “Chrissy’s Wish” the stigma of mental illness, which makes many people ashamed or afraid
to reveal their feelings, will be changed, and, in the near future, eliminated. Tearing down the stigma will prevent people
from feeling the need to hide by self-medicating with drugs or alcohol, or end their lives to “stop their pain”. It is time to
be open to the struggles of mental illness, thereby giving permission for those who need the help, to get the help! Mental
illness is not a personality flaw, weakness or contagious disease… IT IS AN ILLNESS THAT CAN BE TREATED and
with research, the treatments will improve and cures are possible. We must bring HOPE to those who struggle so our
world will not lose any more precious people like Chrissy and the future generations to come.
It’s too late for Chrissy, but not too late for the millions who continue to struggle and search for THEIR peace of mind.
It’s our promise to Chrissy that we will continue her search to find the answer that she was so desperately seeking, and it’s
our promise to all the people who continue to suffer with mental illness, that no matter how difficult it may be, we will
continue to knock on doors, raise public awareness to aid with tearing down the stigma, and hopefully open minds and
hearts which will assist in raising money that is so needed to bring change to the world of mental illness.

for we gain insight from the passing whisper of their wisdom
Throughout our lives we are sent precious souls...meant to share our journey
however brief or lasting their stay they remind us why we are here.
To learn... to teach... to nurture... to love
Some people come into our lives to teach us about love...
The love that rests within ourselves.
They help us to see that everything on earth is part of the incredibility of life...
and that it is always there for us to take of its joy.

support and protect
their loved ones!
On July 25, 2006 our family was transformed forever, our hearts forever broken…
yet with the love and support of countless people, we have managed
to put some meaning to this tragedy, and to our existence.
Chrissy’s Wish has given us a reason to go on, it’s a chance, a hope, a wish,
Somewhere over the rainbow,
there will be a world without mental illness!
that may help someone, somewhere, at sometime, to have a life with peace of mind.
With the help of some family and very dear friends, wonderful sponsors and generous donations
of goods and services, the seventh annual Chrissy’s Wish Fundraiser was made possible.
It’s difficult to find the words to express our gratitude for all your support, loyalty
and generosity, but please know that we will NEVER forget each and every
one of you for helping to bring Chrissy’s Wish to life!
We know Chrissy is smiling today, and we pray to her to gently
