Why the mistrust? Why the chasm? How can we close the gap…or can
we? We will look at ways to ‘advance the Gospel in the face of conflict’
by being present in the land, partnering with various organizations
and showing the very love of Christ.
This is the story of how thousands are finding freedom from the
bondage of drug mafias, terrorism, atheism and war in one of
the greatest unrecorded revivals in world history which is taking
place today in the nation of Colombia. Find out how this is being
accomplished through personal witness, literature distribution
(sometimes though parachute drops) and radio broadcasts.
Bonnie has worked in management in church, television and health
care ministries both in Canada and the U.S. for over 35 years.
A seasoned communicator to various audiences and on television.
She is ordained with the Canadian Assemblies of God and serves as
West Regional Director & TV Producer for ICEJ Canada.

CRISIS OF ISIS AND MIGRANTS – Reflections and Responses
ROOM 2
THE MIGRANTS COMING TO EUROPE: A huge challenge for
politicians, a glorious opportunity for followers of Jesus.
Howard Moore, Greater Europe Mission
The huge numbers of migrants crossing the Mediterranean to
reach Europe is the most pressing front-page issue in Europe today.
Tension mounts as countries individually and the European Union
collectively seek to find humanitarian and economic solutions. Yet
there has rarely been such an occasion for the believers in Europe
and around the world to demonstrate compassion and witness to
the good news of Jesus Christ. In this seminar we will briefly explore
the perplexing challenges that Europe is facing, examples of present
ministries in operation, and other ministry opportunities that are
waiting to be filled.
Howard Moore is the General Director of Greater Europe Mission in
Canada who was a missionary in evangelism and church planting in
France with his wife and three children for 18 years before returning
to Canada in 2004. Since his return to Canada, in addition to his
leadership role in Canada, Howard travels to Europe 3-4 times
each year to lead short term missions teams from Canada and to
participate in strategic ministry meetings and conferences.

Arley Loewen (PhD)
ISIS proclaims itself as “good news” for the Muslim community, whom
they consider to be enslaved to corrupted systems. In stark contrast,
religious minorities, Shiites and millions of Sunnis experience
ISIS as the death of civilization. In this seminar, we will look at the
strands of Islamic fundamentalism and their sense of humiliation as
well as the massive migrant crisis. We will discuss the West’s various
responses and how the church in the Middle East is experiencing both
unprecedented challenges and opportunities in the midst of this
bloody and bitter conflict. The crisis in the Middle East is indeed a
Christian crisis as well. How shall we as Kingdom-people respond?
Arley Loewen has worked in the South – Central Asian context since
1981. He earned an MA in Persian from Pakistan and a PhD in Middle
Eastern Civilizations (Univ. of Toronto). He directs an international
media project and provides leadership training in shame-honor
contexts.

FROM FEAR TO FAITH:
The Explosion of the Dalit Church in India
Dr. David Lundy, Dalit Freedom Network
250 million Dalits in India form the outcaste community, the lowest
social rung in a caste-based culture. In 2001 Christian leaders agreed
to Dalits’ request that English-medium and faith-based schools be
started around the country. Learn how this empowerment through
education has led to the formation of 3,800 churches in spite of
persecution.
Dr. David Lundy is the Development Director of the Dalit Freedom
Network in Canada with additional responsibilities for training
Indian nationals in Christian leadership. Previously he served six years
as a missionary in India in the 1970s and again in the 90s. Additionally
David served as the Canadian Director of Operation Mobilization
(‘85-94). David has an earned M.Div. from Tyndale Seminary and
a D.Min. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and is the
author of four books, the most popular being “Servant Leadership for
Slow Learners,” now in four languages. He is happily married to Linda.

THE CHURCH BEHIND THE WIRE

During Pol Pot’s reign of terror as the leader of the Khmer Rouge, 1.7
million Cambodians died; Barnabas Mam was one of only 200 Christians
to survive the Killing Fields. Come and hear the story about how one
man’s conversion led to a rebirth of faith that brought hope to a nation.

THE (REAL) WAR OF THE WORLDS: When Worldviews Collide

IS THERE HOPE FOR THE MIDDLE EAST
IN LIGHT OF ALL THE CONFLICTS?

Dr. Sara will be sharing about challenges that are currently facing the
Christians in the Middle East by giving a regional perspective then
zooming in into some particular stories of hope. We will learn about
what God is doing in the Holy Land and how the Kingdom is advancing
despite the conflicts which they face on a daily basis. Also Canadian
believers will see how Middle Eastern believers are vital vessel used by
God to advance His Kingdom.

“FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS:”— the role and responsibility
of the Church in the refugee crisis
Steffen Schulte, New Life
Europe, and in particular Germany, is facing the greatest challenge in
decades. Thousands of people are coming by train or by foot in hope
of a better life. The administrational structures are overwhelmed and
so are many individuals. Yet this crisis is also an opportunity. This
seminar will show ways in which churches and individuals can respond,
discovering new ways to show hospitality and to share our faith.
Steffen Schulte became the President of the Rhineland School
of Theology (www.tsr.de) in 1979, which belongs to the mission
organization Neues Leben (New Life), and Pastor of a Baptist Church in
Germany. He is married to Wendy and they have two daughters.
This seminar will reflect on why the proclamation of the Gospel has
historically been and continues to be extremely challenging. One of
the major factors contributing to this phenomenon resides in the fact
that preaching the Gospel is ultimately a challenge to an individual’s
most basic sense of identity and beliefs. On a fundamental level, to
evangelize is to confront worldviews. We will further focus this issue
by examining how missionaries have addressed the ever tortuous
problem of belief in magic in traditional cultures. We will conclude by
considering a number of biblical strategies to implement in situations
where worldviews are indeed in radical conflict.
Pierre Gilbert grew up in Quebec City. He studied at Providence
College and Seminary and completed a Ph.D. in biblical studies at the
Université de Montréal. Pierre has served in Montreal and Fresno (CA).
He presently teaches at the Canadian Mennonite University and the
Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary. His interests focus on biblical
theology, spiritual warfare, and the problem of evil. Pierre is the
author of “Demons, Lies, & Shadows. A Plea for a Return to Text and
Reason” (2008). He and his wife, Monika, have three grown children:
Pierre James, Rachel, and Stephen. They attend Fort Garry MB Church.

IN OUR INNER CITIES ACROSS CANADA?
Jim and Jacqie Wiseman, Pastors, Walls of Freedom Outreach
International and local conflict and turmoil serve to drive people
to find new lives in our inner cities. It is important to allow all races
to live out the gospel of Christ. How can the church be a major part
of renewal in times of crisis? Come and find out practical ways how
God uses individuals and local churches can be tools of transformation
and reconciliation in the inner city.

THE WAR AGAINST THE GOSPEL!

We live in one of the most exciting and dangerous times to be a
follower of Jesus as He is pouring out the Holy Spirit all over the earth!
The numbers of Muslims and people of other faiths coming to Christ
is unprecedented as is the persecution against Christians. We hear
many reports about militant Islamic groups like ISIS in the Middle East
and Boko Haram in Nigeria causing all sorts of pain and hardship for
believers, but what we don’t often hear about are the amazing stories
Greg Musselman, VP of Outreach for The Voice of the Martyrs Canada,
travels to hostile nations to produce video documentaries of
persecuted Christians. A popular speaker, Greg shares the message of
those under persecution for their faith with the churches in Canada
and around the world. He and his wife, Arlene, reside in St. Albert,
Alberta, and they have four grown children.

an outreach concept church in the core area of Winnipeg. Walls of
Freedom began operating as a small outreach in the core area of
Winnipeg in the summer of 2007 and joined with the Mennonite
Brethren Churches of Manitoba in 2011. Jim and Jacqie have been

WHO OWNS MISSIONFEST
MANITOBA?
You might have wondered: What is Missionfest?
Who owns it? Who runs it? Who has a say in what
goes on?
Gordon Gilbey is the person with whom you are
likely most familiar. He is the Executive Director,
which means he oversees all the program and
administrative details of both the event and all the
activities which surround the event. He is essentially
the face of Missionfest. Gord reports regularly to
the Board of Directors of Missionfest. The Board
proactively looks for assurances that Missionfest is
accomplishing the purposes for which it exists and
that it is done biblically, ethically and legally.
But, does the Board have any accountability;
and if so to whom?
We believe the answer to that is “Yes”. We affirm that
there are people to whom the Board of Missionfest
Manitoba Inc. is morally accountable. It includes
those individuals who have a passion to see people
who attend Missionfest events become more
informed about missions, to be inspired about what
God is doing through missions and ultimately to
become intentionally involved in missions both
locally and globally. As noble as that may sound, if
the Board believes that, then it is critical that it is
able to specifically identify who they are.
Is that you? Do you have a passion for what
Missionfest is seeking to accomplish that extends
beyond what it does for you? Do you already
contribute to Missionfest in some way but would
like to go deeper? If so, the Board would like to hear
from you.
With that in mind the board has planned an event
for Thursday, March 17 at 7:00PM (location to be
