You probably have to sign thousands of confidentiality agreements, and it PROBABLY wouldn’t be a good idea to look at porn at work. Anyway, they’ve chosen their latest as transgender software engineer Audrey Tang. It shouldn’t be a big deal when transgender people are appointed high-profile jobs, but unfortunately it still is, so here we are reporting it. Good luck, Aud! Trans woman appointed Head of Digital Policies for the Taiwanese government Study finds bi guys are better at sex with women than straight guys It’s not much of a surprise is it. There’s very little that straight men are good at, apart from spitting and football. And it makes total sense that, having presumably had sex with both genders, bisexual men would be more in tune with sex and sexuality in general. In a study conducted in Australia, with 78 women who’d been in relationships with bisexual men, ALL of the women said they were better at sex than straight men. They also said they’d make better fathers. qxmagazine.com ACTING EDITOR DYLAN JONES [email protected] EDITORIAL ASSISTANT JAMES EGAN [email protected] NEW BUSINESS SALES EXECUTIVE STEVE GREGORY 020 7240 0055 [email protected] SENIOR DESIGNER JANNE ÖIJER [email protected] DESIGNER SUREN GUNPATH [email protected] CLASSIFIEDS /ESCORTS 020 7240 0055 [email protected] DIRECTOR CHRIS COLMAN 020 7240 0055 [email protected] DISTRIBUTION / M.R.DISTRIBUTION PRINTERS / ACORN Could you be an Afterparty Engagement Worker? Photos by Victor Hensel-Coe Hey Cazealeon! Tell us about yourself. You’re from Australia right? Yes, I hail from the beautiful artistic city of Melbourne in Australia! I’m a 26-year-old actor, singer and dancer who loves being by the beach and pancakes for breakfast! I moved to London nine months ago and have been on this crazy journey of self-discovery since I landed. What do you make of London? I’ve fallen head over heels in love with London! It was a bit daunting at first. It’s such a big, fast-paced city, and has this rush and energy that you just don’t get in Australia. Do you like the gay scene? I do! I find the scene here very diverse and exciting. I love seeing the younger generation of kids going all out with their looks and concepts and not being afraid to express who they are. It’s been very inspiring for me, and has helped me grow more comfortable with doing that myself. What’s your beverage of choice? I’m a whiskey on the rocks type of guy. Lots of our readers will be interested to know, who would be your ideal man? (Or woman! Or person!) Haha! Well I always think that if a person can genuinely make you laugh and smile from ear to ear, then that’s a great starting point. I think my ideal partner would be one that can communicate openly with me about all aspects of our relationship. And someone who’s adventurous. Who or what is your look inspired by? My background is in theatre, and I’ve got a very strong old classic aesthetic to my look. I’d say I’m inspired by my great idols of the stage and screen, like Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minelli, Sophia Loren, Julie Andrews in Victor Victoria, Allan Cumming, and also an amazing Australian cabaret artist called Iota. If you could invite any three celebrities, living or dead, to a soiree, who would it be and why? Judy Garland, Meryl Streep and Bob Fosse. They’re three people I’ve always looked up to and loved. Also I think I could learn a hell of a lot from three legendary and game changing people. What’s been the best moment of your life EVER? When I’m on stage or on screen in my element, doing what I was put here to do. A career highlight would have to be working with one of Australia’s best directors on a film I did a year or so ago. That experience will always be with me. You’re doing a show on Sunday, tell us a little about that. Yes I am! I’m very humbled to have been asked to come along as Vanity von Glow’s guest at The Phoenix Artist Club this Sunday the 4th of September. I’ll be doing a collection of songs from a cabaret competition I just recently won, as well as a classic duet or two with the incomparable Vanity von Glow. Finally, what would be your advice to young queer people starting out in life? Even if you’ve gone through hardship and feel like you don’t belong, have faith that there’s always a place for you in this world. The older you get, the more you attract the right kind of friends and energy that matches yours. Never be afraid to express your authentic self and live passionately, as we’re all only here for a short time. Cazeleon is performing at The Phoenix Artist Club on Sunday 4th September from 8:30pm. 1 Phoenix Street, WC2H 8BU. 4 qxmagazine.com QX_1121_Cazeleon.indd 4 30/08/2016 18:04 QX 1121 MASTER 1.indd 5 30/08/2016 18:32 VOGUING, QUEEFING AND COWBOY HATS Dylan Jones meets Nadya Ginsburg Photography by Dusti Cunningham 6 qxmagazine.com QX_1120_Nadya Ginsburg.indd 6 30/08/2016 18:05 American comedian Nadya Ginsburg is one of us. By which we mean she’s always in gay clubs, she’s familiar with passing out in public parks, and she regularly pretends she’s Madonna. In fact, her Madonna impersonation is legendary, and has become a cult hit on both sides of the pond (partly because we always insist on putting it on YouTube at house parties in Bethnal Green). But making fun of Madonna is more of a side-project. Nadya is a full time, respected comedian has been involved in some iconic stuff in the industry - she’s been a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, she’s written for Joan Rivers, and she’s just guest starred on CBS’ 2 Broke Girls. She chatted to Dylan Jones about eating ass, jumping on Justin Bieber, and paying outrageous homage to Madge. Nadya Ginsburg! You’re currently being interviewed by London’s PREMIER gay magazine! How do you feel about that? Tingly in the premier gay places, whilst pulsating with Velvet Rage. For readers who don’t know you, sum yourself up in a Madonna lyric. Jimmy Jimmy, Oh Jimmy Jimmy! Speaking of Madonna, we love your impersonation of her so much. Tell us how it came into being. There’s a great old vaudeville quote by John Royle – “Vaudeville may be a kind of lunch - counter art, but then art is so vague and lunch is so real.” I am a comedic actress with a bunch of characters and impressions in my bag. Madonna is just the one most likely to pay for lunch. She’s fun to embody because she is equal parts entertaining and confounding so never a bore. I hope she keeps flashing her punk rock pussy until the grass-fed cows come home. Our favourite line is when you talk about pleasuring yourself with an iPad. Was that based on an actual thing that happened? Never but I am sitting on my cell phone and group texting myself as we speak. Has Madonna seen your videos? If so, what did she think? (If not, what do you think she’d say?) She actually has lifted material from a few of my videos, specifically a joke she did on Jimmy Fallon from Episode 3 of Madonnalogues when trying to do stand up, which I had her do in Episode 6 and members from the insider Gay Hair and Make Up Mafia have confirmed it, but who knows? If she is I am flattered and she should hire me to write some better material for her, GUUUURL. Right, enough about Madonna, tell us about YOU! What’s your favourite thing to do? Like, ever? Not worry about paying my rent. I am a material girl. Who would play your long-suffering life partner in a movie? (You’re not allowed Julianne Moore) Mel Brooks Have you ever been on one of those massive inflatable pool swans like the one Justin Bieber has? Yes but I don’t appreciate you talking about my dear grandmother that way. Have you ever been on Justin Bieber? Yes! Five years ago while writing at my corner coffee shop I spotted him walking into a tattoo parlor and snapped this pic, after which we made vigorous love on a skateboard while he peed in a bucket and a monkey watched but there was no kissing on the mouth. The weather’s gorgeous here and we’ve been having a lot of gay picnics lately. What’s your favourite thing to eat on a gay picnic? Besides ass? That’s a tough one. I will say gay picnics are the best because no-one parties like the oppressed. Also, gay men and women are bonded by our mutual body dysmorphic disorder and shame, but together we form a competition-free oasis where we can freely shit and shame on others so WERK! Pass the ASS! Where do you live? What’s your house like? I reside on the East Side of The City of Silicone and Saline Angels in the oh-so-tragically hip Silverlake, the original old Hollywood. My home is the former apartment of my dear friend, drag legend Jackie Beat, who TranMothered it to me. It’s a two bedroom with a backyard and is furnished with an assortment of dragon skulls, monkeys, naked photos of starlets, feather headdresses and more monkeys. I call it shabby, jungle, voodoo, showbiz chic. “GAY PICNICS ARE THE BEST, BECAUSE NO-ONE PARTIES LIKE THE OPPRESSED” 7 qxmagazine.com QX_1120_Nadya Ginsburg.indd 7 30/08/2016 18:06 Tell us what you think about American politics at the moment. Trump has done something very important, though painful. He ripped off the band aid of hypocrisy in American society that pretends that slavery never happened and that no matter how many generations of immigrants come to this country to add their blood sweat and tears to its fabric, there is a white segment of the population that is racist. I take solace in the fact that it will be women, blacks and hispanics who will go to the polls and ensure his defeat. Of course it is sad that he has gathered such steam, but I take solace in the fact that impotent rage is the loudest. Also, to paraphrase my beloved Obama, not bad to be living in a time where a woman and a Socialist Jew were the Democrats angling to replace a the son of a white single mother and a Kenyan father. Even if the GOP nominee is a peabrained, morally bankrupt fascist asshole. Talking of assholes, is there a good gay scene where you are? Yes there is, and not just because Mario Diaz of the documentary Club King (former owner of The Cock in The East Village and promoter of the parties Big Fat Dick, Full Frontal Disco and now Bonkerz) is my bestie. There is a very free, non-conformist, punk rock, don’t-takeyourself-too-seriously vibe, that reminds me of New York City in the 80s and 90s. If you could keep a famous gay as a pet, who would it be? Tim Gunn from Project Runway, so that whenever I doubt myself he could calm me by telling me to “listen to my viscera.” What’s your favourite Sunday morning hangover show to watch? The Housewives of any city. Ok ONE MORE Madonna question - What’s your favourite Madonna song? That’s impossible. Get Into The Groove, Bad Girl and Like A Prayer. I also enjoyed her latest Holy Water where she threatens the Vatican to choke on every last drop of her cum juice. #ifitaintbroke Which fellow comedians are you most inspired by? The entire cast of the Canadian Television Show SCTV – (Andrea Martin, Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara to name a few) Gilda Radner, Molly Shannon, Kristin Wiig, Steven Colbert, Jennifer Saunders, David Chappelle, Chris Rock, Ricky Gervais. So many icons, but honestly my showbiz friends Selene Luna, Mario Diaz, Jackie Beat, Sam Pancake, Drew Droege, Jonny McGovern, Travis Walck, Muffy Bolding, Calpernia Adams, Alec Mapa. We keep each other insane and cry and blow our clown noses on each other’s shoulders. AND FINALLY…what plans do you have for the future? I have a new live show called Insane Clown Pussy which is a mix of stand up and characters, (less Madonnacentric though she is still featured) and I’m finishing the writing of Season Two Of Madonnalogues, where I’m going to incorporate me playing a character more like myself, and show what my showbiz life is like behind the mask. I just want to keep writing and performing and make my way across the pond to entertain you in person. Also, to rule the world. Nadya’s show, Insane Clown Pussy, is at The Cavern Club Theatre at 9pm on Friday 23rd-Saturday 24th September. 1920 Hyperion Ave, Silverlake, California. Maybe they’ll redecorate. John Sizzle’s probably already in Bastins stuffing handfuls of polystyrene shamrocks down his bra. They’ll have guest performances from London’s queer Irish community, as well as Glory resident Rudi Douglas, who’s far too handsome to be a real person. Don’t tell him we said that. And somehow the crew behind the night managed to make it even more sweet and even more special for this bank holiday weekend. In addition to the delectable tunes of resident DJs Beary Carey and Dom Top, they had laid out a choice cut for our thirsty enjoyment. This delightful amuse-gueule was so yummy that it proved all too much for one member of the very queer audience, who decided, we’re told, to set their pubes on fire, to register their delight, no doubt. As a special guest the team had lined up Celebrity Big Brother’s Austin Armacost, who was making his DJ debut with the BABEZ family, spinning all our old favourites. We nearly reached for the lighter ourselves. In the end we only had one tune going round in our head: Drop some sugar in our bowl, babe! 16 qxmagazine.com QX_1121_Club Reviews.indd 16 30/08/2016 18:18 QX 1121 MASTER 1.indd 17 30/08/2016 18:32 BRUT WUFF 27/08/16 The Steelyard, 13-16 Allhallows Lane, EC4R 3UL Words by Nicolas Chinardet Photos by zefrografica “Saturday, saw the bar and main dance-floor swarming with their usual thirsty collection of hot muscle blokes with their tops off.” Words like “extra” and “big” are very much among the various things we’re used to see pass the lips of the Brüt team. For this Bank Holiday weekend, they had uttered those words and laid out an extra treat. The first edition of Brüt Wüff, on Saturday, saw the bar and main dance-floor swarming with their usual thirsty collection of hot muscle blokes with their tops off. The resident DJs normally operating in vault number two with their poppy tunes had been set free on the decks of the main vault for the night. To help kick-start the weekend’s hedonistic double-header, a Brüt Beer Blast was in operation early in the night, with cheap booze on tap for all. This extra night was followed on the Sunday night with Brüt Goes BANG: BANG muscleboys and Brüt bears getting down and dirty together for the first time. So, space was perhaps slightly reduced but this was all, we felt, very much in help of going big and… going bang! 18 qxmagazine.com QX_1121_Club Reviews.indd 18 30/08/2016 18:19 QX 1121 MASTER 1.indd 19 30/08/2016 18:32 R & She 27/08/16 Trapeze, 89 Great Eastern Street, EC2A 3HX Words and Photos by Victor Hensel-Coe “You could realistically become injured by the ferociousness of hair whipping during Whip My Hair Back and Forth.” Whether you were bouncing to Beyonce or twerking to TLC, R & SHE was making an RnB kween out outta errybody up in this club! And that club specifically is Trapeze bar in Old Street. It’s the new home of the night where you could realistically become injured by the ferociousness of hair whipping during Whip My Hair Back and Forth - you’ve been warned. Keeping the club crunk were DJ’s Q-Boy, SWYR and MarkAshley Dupé, who mixed track after track of feminine-flavoured hip-hip, RnB, and sexy pop realness to bring you one of the most genuinely dance powered nights you’ve grooved at in ages. Meanwhile, the August bank holigay attracted a soul trainload of queer dancing wildchilds that could have taught Missy a thing or two about how to get her freak on! It was a fabulous night for R & She, where if we learned nothing else, it was that live fast or die young, bad girls do it well! 20 qxmagazine.com QX_1121_Club Reviews.indd 20 30/08/2016 18:19 QX 1121 MASTER 1.indd 21 30/08/2016 18:32 WE Olympic Gaymes 27/08/16 Coronet, 28 New Kent Road, SE1 6TJ Words by Chris Jepson, Photos LondonClubland.com While the blood, sweat and tears of Rio’s Olympiad has drawn to a close, at least until we do it all again for the Paralympics, last weekend Orange Nation threw their own games to test our resolve to clubbing excellence. First up on Saturday night, WE Party landed from Madrid for their own brand of sporting finesse with no less than a dozen lycra-clad toned bodies on stage parading their national flags. On the decks in the main room Steve Pitron and Matt Bogard were joined by WE Party superstar DJ SR EDU, while outside in a balmy arch Paul Coals and Massimo Paramour played a few national anthems of their own. As befitting the scale of this international behemoth, the crowds were out in force and the dance floor was a writing mass of sweaty shirtless muscle and sinew. Fat Tony was ON FIRE in the main room and gold clad dancers gyrated within an inch of our eager mouths, open wide as we gasped for breath. The packed dance floors were rammed with the stuff of dreams as the lights and pyros exploding overhead were worthy of a Disney finale – all that’s needed is a Prince to come in and sweep this Princess off her feet – now where the hell are you? When London was at the peak of the international club scene the likes of Trade, DTPM and Crash were what the rest of the world aspired to, and we had them right here on our doorstep every weekend. Fast forward a few years and good big club parties are few and far between so it takes something a bit special to get us excited. Well last weekend we were beside ourselves for the return of DTPM with ‘Lick My Lollipop’ at the super-swish Exhibit in Balham. Three rooms, three terraces, a cinema, a garden and some of the finest deckmeisters ever to grace a CDJ. It was without doubt the freshest new club to hit town this year. From the friendly warm welcome by security, to the crowd – a delicious, fun and funky mix of old school clubbers and new kids on the block, to the atmosphere in every corner of the venue. It was everything we wanted and more. If you haven’t been to the George, it’s well worth a trip on the DLR. It’s friendly, welcoming and plays host to some of the best cabaret acts in the city. This Friday from 8pm they’ve got Titti La Camp, notorious for her Feed The Birds act, where she spits bread out at the audience. Don’t see that every day do ya. West 5 is, very inventively, named after its postcode! Venues named after postcodes are always good news. Exciting and glamorous events always seem to unfold at them. West 5 has a great mix of punters; a mix of local Ealingers, Central London gays, and hot young students from the uni halls round the corner. The building’s beautiful too, an old-style tudor pub that’s been converted into a big camp gay bar! This Friday from 8pm it’s DELICIOUS, with Sandra, who’s hilarious and vile in equal measure. Rupert Street Bar is, unsurprisingly, on Rupert Street, a bustling tributary of cobbles and calamity between Soho and Piccadilly. Rupert Street is a grass-roots, classic gay bar! They’ve got the chrome bar top, they’ve got the camp cocktails, they’ve got the bicepped bar staff, they’ve got Better The Devil You Know by Kylie on the soundsystem. You may also have noticed they were the showstopper spectacular of the White Swan’s cracking 31st Birthday! The show they put on was injecting rocket fuel into the fabulous bird yet - getting the crowd singing and dancing with covers of Zayn, Jonas Blue, and Walk the Moon before finally performing their hit You’re Not Alone. In addition to the beautiful boys were the vocal talents of Jason Prince and Kelly Wilde, while outrageous east-end drag came from Sophie Saunders who had everyone shouting “you can’t say that!” through their tears of laughter. And finally, one clever man won the special swan contest, which had him £50 up at the bar and backstage with Eurovision starlight. All in all, we reckon 31st birthdays should now be called White Swans because that one was a flapping ball! “In addition to the beautiful boys were the vocal talents of Jason Prince and Kelly Wilde.” 38 qxmagazine.com QX_1121_Bar Reviews.indd 38 30/08/2016 18:39 QX 1121 MASTER 1.indd 39 30/08/2016 18:33 The Dame Edna Experience 28/08/16 The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, 372 Kennington Lane, SE11 5HY Words by Nicolas Chinardet Photos by zefrographica Just over a month ago, there were queues around the block of people hoping to find themselves undergoing Jonathan Hellyer’s Dame Edna Experience after 3 years of absence. Edna was back again this weekend for two nights, and again the crowds came. In a Royal Vauxhall Tavern packed to the rafters, Hellyer delivered his trademark mix of risqué humour and vocal mastery, taking the audience on a journey, every step of which they clearly loved. With support from DJ Simon Le Vans, Hellyer made people sing along to well-known and cherished old pop songs from Kylie to Eurythmics or the Buggles, and by the end, stirred by undeniable adulation, the crowd was chanting Edna’s name and the floor of the venerable pub was literally shaking. As soon as Hellyer left the stage, most people filed outside for some air and to socialise with friends in the balmy summer evening, nipping back in from time to time for a drink and a dance or two. It certainly was an Experience! 40 qxmagazine.com QX_1121_Bar Reviews.indd 40 30/08/2016 18:41 GMFA/RVT Sports Day 29/08/16 Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, SE11 Words by Nicolas Chinardet Photos by zefrografica “The day was dedicated to such manly undertakings as the handbag toss or competitive mincing.” With the Olympics over and the Paralympics not yet started, we felt we needed our sportsy fix this weekend, so the 10th GMFA/RVT Sports Day felt like the perfect opportunity to drag ourselves from ogling athletes on TV and get our sedentary butts to the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens to… well…ogle the “athletes”. In a refreshing variation from your run-of-the-mill 100 metre or diving competitions, the day was dedicated to such manly undertakings as the handbag toss or competitive mincing. The more butch among the participants could compare their testosterone levels in the tug of war. We were told that this looked likely to be the most successful event yet, with the funds raised expected to reach somewhere between 12 and £15,000. Under the watchful eye of bearded drag queen extraordinaire, Timberlina, Edna’s Velvet Flaps were declared the best fundraiser team (with over £3,000), while the Ziga-Zig-Ahs won best costume and the Gay Men’s Dancing Club won the sportsing competition. Thanks to the good weather, people came in their hundreds, because we all love good excuse for a piss up in the sun, particularly when we can claim it’s for a good cause! 41 qxmagazine.com QX_1121_Bar Reviews.indd 41 30/08/2016 18:42 on the Night Tube to BackCOUNTER! TfL should just hire bouncers and a DJ and be done with it. Anyway, Night Tube is OFFICIALLY up and running across several lines already, including the Victoria Line. We love the Victoria Line. It’s fast, it’s always on time, and it goes to locations where all the sexiest men are. One of those locations, is Vauxhall! A hive of homosexual hedonism if ever there was one. And we say that with love. And guess what’s in Vauxhall, literally outside the entrance to the station…Counter! Counter is ambiently illuminated, profferingly polished, and almost insultingly chic. It’s a New York-style brasserie, with a good dollop of sexy London grittiness. As well as doing dinner and drinks until the wee hours, they host burlesque and cabaret nights at their back bar, BackCOUNTER. A perfect prelude to going clubbing, or even INSTEAD of going clubbing. In honour of the arrival of Night Tube, they’ve invented a new cocktail! We feel like that’s how Carrie Bradshaw would celebrate things, so we approve. The Vauxhall Interchange cocktail is made with gin, Southern Comfort, Cointreau, and then a couple of other things that aren’t alcoholic. They’re open until 1:30am on Fridays, when they also have chilled purveyor of cool tunes, DJ Chillz. So zoom down on the Victoria Line and check it out! And then you can zoom straight back again! No waiting on chilly corners for Ubers! Counter & BackCounter are at Arch 50, 7 – 11 South Lambeth Road, SW8 1SR. Dave Lynn Dr Woof Ever heard of The Old Ship in Limehouse? Of course you have! They’re an institution. Known for their history, their affability, and their camp catty cabaret! This Sunday 4th, they’re throwing a big whirling charity shindig in association with the Albert Kennedy Trust. It’s a cake sale! A bit like a nice wholesome English village fete affair. Except in East London. With loads of drag queens. We’re hoping Mary Berry’s gonna show up and be condescending to everyone. That’d be ace! The Old Ship and the Albert Kennedy Trust have long been affiliated with one another, and they’re old pals! Like Jack and Karen. Or Sonny and Cher. The annual cake sale is now in it’s third year, and they’ve already raised over £5000. But it’s not just a cake sale! It’s cake and cabaret! Inner Circle follows the lives, fun, troubles and rise to fame of Brandon and his close friends. The docu-series appears for free online and follows the friends in LA as they conquer the City of Angels to make their dreams come true. The first episode of the series is called ‘Bad Girl’ and stars trans model Arisce Wanzer. Arisce rose to fame in the fashion industry as one of the most sought-after transgender models, but also as the model who came out and slammed Kendell Jenner’s complaints of being bullied during fashion week. In the episode, she addresses the open letter she wrote to Kendall Jenner, saying the younger sister of Kim Kardashian “doesn’t know what it means to be a real model”. Arisce declares that she wants to be remembered by everyone, and informs us that “you don’t die until your name is spoken for the last time”. She is now set to star in the new Whoopi Goldberg-produced series Strut, which follows an ensemble cast of trans models as they correct the face of the fashion industry, one catwalk and billboard at a time. I was lucky enough to snag an interview 44 qxmagazine.com QX_1120_Inner Circle.indd 44 30/08/2016 18:43 I have an incredible support system of friends and family. Many of them work in the arts (models, photographers, performers, etc.) and are on the cusp of breaking out in their field. I wanted to tell their stories and show everyone how amazing they are. Photo of Arisce Wanzerby Dustin Sohn Photo of Brandon Smithson by Matt Perino with Brandon Smithson after he published the second episode of his captivating docuseries. Brandon is a sweet-heart, and the meeting feels more like a friendly conversation than an interview. Hey Brandon! Tell me about yourself. I live in LA and I’m somewhat of a nerd. When I have downtime, I’m either playing Street Fighter V on PS4 or out rollerskating with friends. So what dream are you chasing for in LA? The dream is for people to see my fashion films, docu-series, music videos and say “Hey, let’s give this guy what he needs and hire him to create that for us!” As a filmmaker, I’ll be creating art for the rest of my life. The next step is to reach a wider audience. So tell me about Inner Circle, which I’m obsessed with. What inspired you to do this? Last year my dear friend and fellow filmmaker, Paloma Valenzuela, created a comedic mini webseries titled “The Pineapple Diaries.” She told stories about Dominican culture that were relatable, vibrant in colour, and, most importantly, original. Watching her series inspired me to create something authentic and fresh. I have an incredible support system of friends and family. Many of them work in the arts (models, photogra- phers, performers, etc.) and are on the cusp of breaking out in their field. I wanted to tell their stories and show everyone how amazing they are. Well the docu-series is so interesting and there’s only two episodes out so far. What else can we expect from Inner Circle? Well, the docu-series is aptly titled Inner Circle, because it follows the people closest to me. You may not know the names of everyone highlighted, but you will soon! Some chapters are dialogue-heavy like “Bad Girl” and others are edited as mini music videos with none at all. You can expect to see beautiful imagery mixed with organic storytelling. A lot of shows out today are overly produced and feel forced. I made a point to go the opposite route. One of your close friends is trans model Arisce Wanzer. How do you know her? Arisce Wanzer is one of my best friends. We met 5 years ago in NYC at a house party and have been inseparable since. You must be so proud of her and her accomplishments, especially landing a starring role on Strut! I’m hella excited for Strut! It’s not often that you see an ensemble cast, all of colour, on a major TV network. Chapter one of my docu-series gives a more intimate look at how hard Arisce has worked to get to this point. She deserves all of the fame that is coming her way. Strut looks amazing and it’s such a huge deal for the LGBT community in media. As a gay director yourself, what’s your opinion of the way gay men are represented in the media? Now that we have films like Barry Jenkins’ upcoming feature “Moonlight”, I think gay men are starting to have more diverse representation in the media. So it’s great! So what more can we expect from you? My sister just gave birth to a son and I’m a proud first time uncle. The next project I’m working on is creating original educational videos for my nephew as he grows older (think Reading Rainbow meets Blue’s Clues). We live on separate coasts in the U.S. but I want to be a part of his learning process. I plan on starring in these videos so that he will be familiar with my face, despite being thousands of miles away. Thank you so much Brandon! I look forward to seeing the rest of Inner Circle. Well, CHRISTEENE will shit all over your dough balls and piss in your garlic butter. Instead of seeing a Marvel movie at the cinema, she’ll go to Spiderman’s house and rim him over the coffee table while Kirsten Dunst looked on in horror. She sheds convention with an unapologetic oblivion that shows she may never even have known what convention was. In sad post-brexit world of Strictly Come Dancing and Samsung Galaxies, she’s the writhing, roiling, gurning, mudsmeared antidote. After one of the worst years of the decade, it’s time to shrug off constraints imposed by rich developers, tax collectors, politicans. She’s descending on The Soho Theatre with TRIGGER. It offers social support and meetings for those who identify both as Muslim, and lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. In a world where religion and sexuality are often polarized, it’s an important and valuable resource. If we expect to move forward from insidious influences like Islamophobia, homophobia, and xenophobia, groups like Imaan are of paramount importance. Imaan has grown over the last two decades, and now has hundreds of dedicated members. Together, they attend pride marches, organize religion-based events, and reflect on what it means to be both Muslim and LGBTQI.
