Cherry Darling can

goes with a bang…
or a bump in the night
‘Scream with a Queen came about when
I was working with Haunted Happenings
and we were having quite a few hen and
stag nights coming along,’ Cherry Darling
tells Pink Weddings Magazine.
‘drag queens and hen or stag nights
go together anyway, so Scream with a
Queen is a paranormal investigation run
by a drag queen. a lot of it’s tongue in
cheek –we don’t take it as seriously as
normal investigations.’
Cherry used to be a professional
drag queen in Spain, so is used to
drumming up a party atmosphere. She’ll
get dressed up in her best sequins and
get to know the group, teasing them,
teetering about on heels and generally
glitzing it up.
Some of the venues start the
evening with a meal – ‘the wine always

helps!’ – and if groups want to join up
with other groups they can have their
party at ‘the big meccas’ like Warwick
Castle or alton towers.
Once everyone’s in the party mood,
Cherry gets her ghostbusting equipment
out – ‘vibrators for dowsing rods and
flesh tunnels for torches… it’s camp
mayhem!’
She takes them off to do some
séances, ‘and the more they laugh, the
more they raise the energy in the place,’
she says. ‘that’s what the spirits are
attracted to, so we get even more
activity by having a laugh! it’s a really
fun night out.’
‘We can work with whatever their
budget is, and can even throw in a male
stripper if they want one.’ isn’t it a bit
cold to strip in a castle? ‘Hey,’ she laughs,
‘if i can walk around in six-inch heels with
a dress up to my backside, they can walk
around with nothing on!
‘What i love more than anything is
that they see me as one of the girls. the
stuff they tell me needs censoring – it’s
outrageous! it even makes me blush –
and i think i’ve heard everything.’
Cherry also teams up with duane
Wiggle, a geeky technophile, for a
alternative evening called Beauty and
the geek. ‘He blinds them with science
and i take the mickey out of him – we’re
like Yvette Fielding and Carl Beatty in
Most Haunted,’ she says. ‘i’ve been
officially crowned the new princess of
the paranormal!’
