June 29, 2007 marked a special day in American history. Not only was it the first time that two new ACY hulls were flipped on the same day, but of special significance is the fact that they were the largest and smallest hulls built at the facility. To see photos of the complete flipping sequence on-line, go to the “Design & Construction” link at americancustomyachts.com. ACY90 ACY90 The deck house on the ACY90 has been placed temporarily on the vessel to allow for the precise fitting of the forward windshield. Once the windshield is framed and the plywood is laminated, the deckhouse will be removed and returned to the shop floor for glassing and fairing. The construction of the hull exterior is complete and Kevlar® has been applied to the interior up to the waterline. Forward deck framing has been dry-fitted and the forward soles are under construction. The fuel, water and waste tanks will be installed next. The framework on the bridge is also finished and ready to be skinned upon completion of the bridge seating. ACY42 EXPRESS ACY68 The bridge has been placed on the house of the ACY68, pictured here next to the ACY42 EXPRESS. The cockpit tanks and fish box are all in place, and the teak toe rail and teak transom have been installed. If you’re in the market for a custom ACY dream machine, this vessel is available and ready for the ultimate interior. Kevlar® and fiberglass have been applied to the interior in preparation for the deck structure and planking. Mock-ups of the deck line, console and interior layout are being positioned for owner approval. (The owner approved the layout just after this photo was taken and the deck framing has commenced.) Shell Shocked! Thanks to recent installations by BAT and IMS, the 48’ Viking SHELL SHOCK now lights up the sea and sky. BAT created an awe inspiring full tower with tri-color dome lights flush-mounted on the hardtops, along with special features like custom pitch bait bucket holders integrated into the bow rail. Complementing the performance of their affiliate, IMS provided a picture perfect installation of navigation and A/V equipment, including multiple Furuno NavNet® displays, complete tower electronics and an extensive Latham® sportfish camera system. A KVH® high definition “TV at Sea” system provides entertainment throughout the vessel. And for an encore, a Sony® LCD TV in the salon is mounted on a swingout door, cleverly revealing an air-conditioned cabinet housing the audio-video components. Vessels in the News BLACK GOLD battles in Puerto Rico. QUE MAS sings the blues in Bermuda. The ACY fleet has been making a big splash on the high seas, logging outstanding catches and making a major impression on the tournament circuit. The ACY65 QUE MAS achieved a stunning upset in the 2007 Sea Horse Anglers Club Billfish Tournament – a Bermuda Triple Crown event. With just two hours left in the tournament, QUE MAS was in fifth place when they hooked into a blue, vaulting them into second. Then, with just 30 minutes of fishing left, they hooked into a pair of whites, releasing the first one just before lines out, securing the victory. Proving their love for the sport, the QUE MAS team spent another 15 minutes battling the second white, hooked on a spinner, just for fun. The final tally: a 570 lb. blue marlin, a blue release and six white releases. The QUE MAS and sister ACY65 FREE ENTERPRISE are preparing to ship via transport to the Pacific where they will fish their way through Central America and up the coast to Cabo San Lucas, where they will join the ACY63 STEPHANIE LEE, winner of the STEPHANIE LEE celebrates in Los Suenos. first leg of Costa Rica Los Sueños Billfish Tournament Series. The ACY65 BLACK GOLD battled for a fifth place finish in the prestigious Club Nautico de San Juan 54th Annual Billfish Tournament. This year’s tourney was particularly competitive with a spread of just 50 points separating the second through fifth place spots. Both the BLACK GOLD and the ACY65 BANDIT posted strong tournament showings in the Bahamas this year, with the BANDIT catching the vessel’s two largest fish ever, both in the 400to-600-lb. range. ACY’s head-turning 72-foot YELLOWBIRD reported actionpacked adventure in Bermuda. Highlights include releasing a behemoth 700-lb. blue. The ACY65 SNEAK ATTACK recently traveled on its own bottom through Panama to the Pacific where it will be permanently stationed. BLUE WATER CAT, an ACY65, made another strong showing in this year’s Gulf Coast tourney circuit. YD: It is wise to have running gear, struts and shafts inspected for cracks at every haul-out, especially if there has been a vibration or a propeller running loose. A dye test can magnify even the smallest hairline cracks and signs of stress not visible to the naked eye. Be sure to have the tapered portion of the shafts inspected carefully, as well as all welds and castings -- these are common area for stress. If a stress crack is discovered on a shaft, ask the service yard if the shaft needs to be replaced or if there is another remedy.
