Day 9 (AQABA – DEAD SEA - AMMAN) The Dead Sea eastern coast in Jordan is one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the whole world. Series of new hotels and archaeological discoveries are converging to make this region, the lowest spot on earth at 410 meters below sea level, as enticing to international visitors today as it was to kings, traders and prophets in antiquity. The leading attraction at the Dead Sea is the hot, soothing super-salty seawater, which is four times saltier than normal seawater. It is rich in chloride salts of magnesium, sodium, potassium, bromine and several others. This unusually salty, buoyant and mineral-rich water has attracted visitors since ancient times, all of whom have floated effortlessly on their backs while soaking up the water’s healthy minerals along with the gently defused rays of the Jordanian sun. The Dead Sea’s total attraction is due to its unique combination of several factors: the chemical composition of its water, the filtered sunrays and oxygen-rich air, the mineral-rich black mud along the shoreline, and the adjacent fresh water and thermal mineral springs. After enjoying the Dead Sea, we will head to Amman for O/N. Day 10 (AMMAN - DEPARTURE) After breakfast, transfer to Queen Alia Airport in Amman or to land borders for departure. As you continue walking, the walls of the canyon draw closer. About 40 minutes from the trailhead, shortly after a little side stream joins from the south, overhead daylight disappears. A travertine overhang was built up here by coalescing stalactites. The overhang actually touches the opposite wall, forming a solid bridge from one side of the gorge to the other. Below the bridge the walls are dyed with many hues of green & red. O/N in Dana. 20 What is The Dana village Hotel? Staying at the Dana hotel is a completely unique experience. Clothing Egypt is a conservative country and visitors should respect this attitude. No topless or nude bathing is permitted. Have you ever wondered why the Bedouin wear layers of flowing robes? Why they cover their heads and the back of their necks? Centuries of living in desert climates have taught them that loose garments keep one cooler and layered garments allow wind to enter and circulate, creating a natural ventilation system. Protecting the head and neck from loss of moisture prevents heat stroke. Bring comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking and temple floors are far from even. The Sphinxes of Egypt are mythical creatures, seen as guardians in the Egyptian statuary depicted in one of these three forms: Androsphinx - body of lion with head of person; Criosphinx - body of lion with head of ram; Hierocosphinx - body of lion with head of falcon or hawk. Papyrus & Perfumes shops are among our program of today. Here are examples of most of the papyrus art that I acquired in Egypt. Some of the art used gilded (gold/silver) paint, which didn't scan well, but at least you'll get the idea as to what they look like. Return to hotel for O/N.
