This year’s theme is “Leading the Way.” The event is one of the most successful fundraising galas in the entire region. It benefits the premier college‐ prep school in the Northwest/West suburbs. Elgin Academy students, faculty, and friends are leading the way in the key areas of Tradition, Innovation, and Excellence. I’d like to thank every volunteer who has made this event a part of our Elgin Academy tradition for the last 35 years and a special thank you to the people responsible for this year’s event. Extravaganza provides an opportunity for trustees, parents, alumni, and friends of the school to enjoy each other’s company while making a big difference in the lives of our students. Again this year, thousands of friends have also joined us for the online version of Extravaganza (www.biddingforgood.com/ElginAcademy). On behalf of the entire Elgin Academy community, and especially the students, I thank you for attending tonight’s gala event. Your being here demonstrates your support of the school, and we are so grateful. With your generosity, the tradition of excellence at Elgin Academy will be maintained and strengthened. I extend a special thank you to the co‐chairs of tonight’s event, Alan and Sandy Kirk (who are chairing for the second straight year!) and to all of their fellow planning committee members. They have worked very hard over the last few months to ensure the success of this event. Their enthusiasm and creativity have made for a wonderful evening. I also want to personally thank everyone who has helped make Extravaganza a huge success during my twelve years as Head of School. As I move on to sunny Texas, Extravaganza will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for being a part of this Elgin Academy tradition. As you enjoy the dinner and camaraderie, keep in mind that the purpose of this fundraising event is to “lead the way” for some very deserving young people. Have fun, enjoy the evening, and bid high! Dr. John W. Cooper Head of School EXTRAVAGANZA XXXV Leading the Way Dear Elgin Academy Families and Friends: Welcome and thank you for supporting Elgin Academy’s Extravaganza XXXV. We are so honored to be chairing this event again. The Extravaganza committee chose the theme, “Leading the Way,” because we believe this is what our current students, alumni, parents, and faculty do every day. You may have noticed that we have made some changes to Extravaganza. New ideas have been carefully merged with traditional aspects of this event to create an exciting blend to be unveiled tonight. This event could not have been accomplished without the hard work of so many volunteers – you know who you are, and we thank you. We are truly grateful for the experiences our son Aaron has had during his 6 years of attending Elgin Academy. Each year we remark how fortunate he is to be in an environment he enjoys while encountering new learning experiences with each successive teacher and fresh class makeup. We love overhearing him tell friends that he loves to go to school. He has grown in so many ways. As we spend this enjoyable evening together, please remember that all monies raised tonight are applied to Elgin Academy’s operating budget. Tonight, please give freely and compete fiercely, without hesitation, so we can reach our goal of $185,000. Where else are we able to have fun with our friends, make new friends, have some friendly competition, and support what is so dear to our children, their school? As we rely on Elgin Academy to assist in “Leading the Way” to the colleges and futures of our children’s choice, the Academy relies on us to support that endeavor with the necessary resources we raise here tonight. Thank you to all the individuals and businesses that donated items, placed ads, and purchased sponsorships without which we could not succeed. The guidance and support of Dr. John Cooper has been instrumental to this Extravaganza as well as to our experience at Elgin Academy. Thank you, Dr. Cooper, for your 12‐year tenure at Elgin Academy. You will be missed. We thank the Board of Trustees for their hard work. We congratulate Seth Hanford, and we are confident he will be “Leading the Way” for all of us going forward. We also want to give a very sincere thank you to Dani and George Smiley for agreeing to chair Extravaganza XXXVI. We hope everyone will give them all the support we have been so fortunate to receive throughout this process. Elgin Academy is a very special school. The heart of our entire community and friends is a commitment to the intellectual and personal growth of our students. Let me assure you that the young people educated at the Academy today are truly deserving of your support. Finally, let us again say, “thank you” to all of you for coming.
