cottish Jewellery Designer, Ailsa
Mackie was appointed Head of
Jewellery Design at ROX in March
2014. Ailsa, a graduate from Edinburgh
College of Art, has over 19 years
experience in high end jewellery design.
She joins ROX in a new position which
sees her taking responsibility for the design
of all ROX product categories including
diamond jewellery, silver, home ware and
leather goods
Ailsa has worked in many sectors of
the jewellery industry including high end,
fashion, catwalk, silverware and objet d'art.
In 2002 whilst consulting with De
Beers LV, Ailsa worked with Creative
Dirtector Reema Pachachi to produce the
design for the Millenium Star Diamond
necklace launched at Cannes by Iman.
In 2012, whilst working for Asprey, Ailsa
collaborated with Light Artist Chris Levine
to produce the artwork "The Diamond
Queen". Ailsa was asked to design the
Diadem part of the artwork which included
1000 white diamonds in Platinum, overlaid
onto the 3 dimensional artwork of the
Queen to create a luminescent installation.
Speaking on the appointment, ROX
Managing Director, Kyron Keogh, said,
“After a two year search we are thrilled that
Ailsa has joined the team at ROX as Head
of Jewellery Design. As a company we’ve
always had a strong fashion-led approach
and when we met Ailsa we were impressed

Bell & Ross, known for its strong roots
in aviation, roared into BaselWorld in top
gear as it launched two new B-Rocket
designs as part of its second collaboration
with custom motor bike brand, Shaw
Harley Davidson. Sleek and powerful,
the BR 01-94 and BR 03-90 designs will
be available at ROX stores in Glasgow,
Edinburgh and Newcastle and are musthaves for motorbike fanatics.
Ulysse Nardin
All eyes were on independent watch
brand Ulysse Nardin as it added innovative
new designs to its core range with the Dual
Time and Perpetual Calendar editions.
The limited edition Perpetual Calendar
features the most advanced perpetual
calendar in history; this means the watch
will need manual adjustment for the first
time in 2100 – a true feat of mechanical
engineering. Each piece will be marked
with an infinity symbol on the dial making
it a true collector’s item.
Ulysse Nardin’s new Dual Time
Manufacture also breaks boundaries
featuring a Big Date double window
display, also adjustable in both directions,
and a silicon escapement, the height of
watchmaking technology that very few
brands are able to master.

One of the most fascinating aspects of
BaselWorld is the showcase of technical
British watchmakers made a memorable
debut at BaselWorld introducing the
new Bremont Boeing range which takes
off with the launch of Model 1 & 247 –
both made using metals designed for the
aerospace industries for ultimate design
and durability.
Bremont also unveiled its first titanium
watch, the Limited Edition Terra Nova
which was put to the test at the South Pole
expertise and Hublot, known for its cutting
edge technology, has raised the bar this
year becoming the first watchmaker to ever
launch designs featuring Osmium crystals–
one of the strongest and rarest metals in the
world.
Osmium is part of the platinum family
and when crushed into miniscule crystals,
produces a beautiful celestial effect on
the watch in addition to its incredible
strength and durability.
Hublot also unveiled a range of
covetable limited edition pieces which
will be arriving soon, exclusively to ROX
in the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh and
the Argyll Arcade in Glasgow including new

n the wake of the B-Rocket, Bell &
Ross is launching two watches, which
perform complementary functions and
are complementary in size.
A direct offshoot of the B-Rocket, the
BR01 B-Rocket is the ultimate watch for
drivers.
Just like the high-speed motorcycle
it is designed to go with, this instrument
is impressive; its case measures 46 mm
From a functional point of view, the
chronograph is automatically triggered by
the highway push-piece.
And in a flash, the small seconds
counter, at three o’clock, replicates the
graphic display used in experimental
vehicle testing.
In the more elaborate BR 03 B-Rocket
version of the watch, the 42mm satinbrushed steel case is fitted with two
complications.
The hours, minutes and seconds
display also features a large date window
and a power-reserve indicator.
As regards the sub-dial, there are cutouts in the dial revealing the discs operating
the large date window, highlighting just
how sophisticated the mechanism is.

Inspired by aeronautical design, watchmaker Bell & Ross has once again commissioned Shaw HarleyDavidson to design a concept bike with a sleek and powerful look evoking the extreme modernity of the
1960s and the very first American jet aircraft. More than a motorcycle, a legend. More than a legendary
engine, a dream airplane-motorcycle.
A
passion for pioneering aeronautics,
a quest for aerodynamic lines,
a
fascination
with
cockpit
instrumentation… Since its creation, Bell
& Ross has constantly strived to perfect
the look of tools dedicated to aviation and
featuring amazing functional mechanics.
In 2011, the watchmaker successfully
switched from the air to the ground by
designing an exclusive motorcycle in
collaboration with the British team at
Shaw Harley Davidson Speed & Custom
– the Nascafe Racer. At the time, this
prestigious looking motorcycle travelled
the world winning a series of prizes in
London, Dublin and Sturgis, before being
named the planet’s ‘most famous custom
motorcycle’. In 2014, leading aeronautical
watchmaker Bell & Ross went even
further, presenting a totally exclusive
motorcycle, again constructed with the
engineers at Shaw Harley Davidson, who
share the brand’s values of innovation,
performance and precision. A unique
motorcycle, inspired by the iconic world
of the first jet planes secretly designed in
the United States in the 1960s and evoking
this heyday in aeronautics when anything
seemed possible.
The B-Rocket is a concept bike with a
neo-retro look with lines encapsulating the
essential principles of aeronautical design.
An airplane-motorcycle with a unique style
whose extremely aerodynamic lines evoke
the experimental aviation of the 1960s,
Nevada’s speed bikes and the records

in diameter. However, it is above all the
quality of the chronograph that sets the
BR 01 apart. The ultimate in terms of
timing your speed, it has a large minutes
counter, with a tachymetric scale on the
outer edge of the dial, which as a matter of
priority measures short periods of time and
so allows your performance to instantly be
displayed.
It also has three additional counters,
which provide further information: a
60-second, 30-minute and 12-hour
counter.
FEATURE
The circular power-reserve counter at
6 o’clock is reminiscent of the fuel gage
seen on racing motorcycles or cars.
With their sophisticated finishes,
the BR 01 and the BR 03 B-Rocket can
communicate, making dimmed headlights
within easy reach. In terms of colours and
they set on the salt lake at Bonneville, the
genius of Utah’s pioneering engineers in
white coats, as well as the bravery of the
test riders.
The B-Rocket is all that and much
more: an airplane-motorcycle, which cuts
through the air with its striking conical jet
nose, its cabin, its fin and its propulsion
turbines. This exceptional motorcycle –
a unique model epitomizing the union
between performance and precision,
design and power – could have been
ridden by a classic super-hero, a NASA test
pilot or a young gun thirsty for glory. Above
all, it represnts a watchmaking firm that
believes in the authenticity of its designs
and functions and most importantly aims
to perfect the modernity of the past.

the detail of the finish of these models: red,
black, steel and padded leather are there
to prove it.
Their satin-brushed steel cases, worthy
of the most superb fuselage, are powered
by a self-winding Swiss mechanical
movement.
The azure counters with their guilloche
finish are the mark of a quality finish.
Each model is finished using techniques
in keeping with the finest watch-making
traditions.
The matte black dial, the graphic
display of which is reminiscent of a
motorcycle tachometer or a road vehicle or
airplane instrumentation panel, emphasizes
the colour contrast. To accentuate the
emphasis on readability, the skeletonised
hours and minutes hands are also coated
with a photo-luminescent material.
To stress their association with the
world of driving, a red triangle marks 12
o’clock echoing the triangle visible on the
B-Rocket’s tachometer and turbines.
Finally, both watches are fitted with a
padded leather strap, lined and edged in
red, modelled on the seat of the B-Rocket.
Naturally, to meet the requirements of Bell
& Ross in terms of reliability, resistance
and readability, both the BR 01 and BR
03 B-Rocket are water resistant to a depth
of 100 meters and fitted with anti-glare
treated sapphire crystal.

of the optimism associated with the season.
The conflict in the North Atlantic has tipped
decisively in favour of Germany. Allied convoys
are easy prey for the deadly U-boats, hunting
in their ‘wolf-packs’.

Britain is on the brink of starvation. The
situation looks bleak. In Whitehall, even
Churchill privately doubts whether his
famous powers of oratory will be enough
to lift the nation this time.
Plans for an Allied invasion of Europe in 1944
have been postponed for a year: the US will
not send troops and equipment to Britain with
the Atlantic under German control.
This delay will give Hitler time to strengthen
coastal fortifications in Normandy. German
factories have an extra twelve months to build
Panzers. And huge tank divisions will now
form an iron line of defence along the Rhine,
barring the way into Germany.
The war looks set to continue until at least 1947,
and with no guarantee of an Allied victory.
It didn’t happen like that, of course. But it so
nearly could have, had it not been for the
efforts of a determined band of men and
women in a ramshackle country house in
Buckinghamshire: Bletchley Park.

Some, like Alan Turing, were mathematicians.
Others were musicians. Some were crossword
experts. Yet working in eight-hour shifts in
modest wooden huts, they managed to crack
the German Enigma code, widely believed to
be unbreakable.
An Enigma machine could encrypt letters
in more than 159 million million million
different ways. (Your odds of winning the
lottery look positively generous by comparison.)
But with the code cracked, the Allies were
able to follow the movements of the U-boats
and route the convoys around them. And, in
May 1943, Admiral Donitz conceded defeat
in the Battle of the Atlantic, leaving the way
clear for the D-Day landings.
It was only one of many instances where
intelligence gleaned at Bletchley Park helped
influence the outcome of key events in the war.
The Bremont Codebreaker commemorates
the work of Alan Turing, Gordon Welchman,
Tommy Flowers and the 9,000 other men and
women who served there.
Proceeds from the sale of each watch will go
to the Bletchley Park Trust, which is helping
preserve the house and its famous huts for
the nation.
Every watch will feature actual material from
Bletchley Park.
The movement has an oscillating weight that
incorporates original parts from a German
Enigma rotor.
The crown is inlaid with pinewood from the
floorboards of Hut 6, the nerve centre of
Bletchley Park.
And while the design is inspired by a classic
1940s officers watch, everything else is very
definitely 2014.
The Codebreaker has a unique chronograph
layout with a GMT flyback. (The first we’ve
ever built in this configuration.)
It’s available in two very limited editions: 240 in
stainless steel and 60 in rose gold. We expect
demand to be high.
The men and women of Bletchley Park
maintained absolute secrecy at all times, so
word never got around.
With the Codebreaker, this is unlikely to be
the case.
