Tippy-Toe Tip:
Soft matte fabric
paints are the
best for allover
coverage—they
won’t dry hard,
so your shoes will
stay flexible when
you wear them.
on pointe
This pair has it all: glitter, ribbon and tulle! What more can your dancer ask for? Make your
leading lady her very own ballet-inspired slip-ons.
Customize them with her favorite color, and she can plié
her own way. Go to page 5 for step-by-step instructions.
tried and blue
Our plain canvas
shoes are practically begging to be embellished.
But no need to overdo it! For these, we kept most
of the shoe as-is. A few true-blue accents (painted
stripes and a twisted-up bandana rosette) plus a
little bit of gold glitter fabric paint did the trick.
walk this way
If you’re handy
with a paintbrush, here’s your dream come
shoe: preppy stripes with just a peek of animal
print. Tape off your stripes to keep them nice and
straight. And for the animal spots, try freehanding
or copying them from your favorite fabric.
i do shoe
These dreamy darlings are
perfect for a walk down the
aisle or a walk in the park.
The trick? We used layers
of so-chic embellishments
in blushed-and-beautiful
colors. Next we glued
flowers and a pearlrhinestone pendant to a
portion of a lacy headband,
and then glued it all to the
top of the shoe.
toe and tell
Trendy tootsies? They’re
just a hop, skip and a
jump away! For a look
like this, try rows of
every-color heat-set
crystals on the toes. Then
add felt embellishments
to the sides—you could
buy one as-is or DIY
one of your own!
double take
Here’s a one-for-you,
one-for-me combo
that’s super sweet
without being too
matchy. For the big-kid
version, we painted
on stripes and finished
with swirly roses. For
the mini-me kicks, we
used craft glue to add
on a few 3D blooms.

whale done
A cutie-pie pal from the big
blue? He’s proof that nothing is off limits! We love our
whale friend, but these shoes would be adorable with
any of your little one’s favorite creatures. Tippy-Toe Tip:
Dimensional fabric paint accents make a real splash—
no wetsuit required.
hits the spot
Nothing says fun-to-run-in
like a spattering of playful dots and spots on an
ombre background—we used a paint dauber to keep
our dots uniform. Tippy-Toe Tip: Try going two-toned!
The shoes are stitched into sections, so it’s easy to paint
them in blocks of color.
pair game
Step onto the scene with these Mommy-and-me slip-ons, and you’ll
be the talk of the playground. To make them, soak the shoes in fabric
dye according to manufacturer’s instructions. Then paint on glittery gold
designs, and let your fabulous footsies do the talkin’ (and the walkin’).

Paint shoes with fabric paint. Let

Cut ribbon into four
3-foot lengths. Trim
ends at a 45-degree
angle, as shown. Apply
seam sealant to ends
to prevent fraying.
With craft glue, adhere
lengths of ribbon to inside
of shoes, one on each
side. Align ribbon edge
with insole, as shown.
Clip ribbons in place until glue
has completely dried—we used
the discarded clips from the
tulle flowers, but clothespins
would work just as well.
Let her flaunt
these too-cute
tutu toes!
