Over the last twenty years or so there has been a huge amount of work done
worldwide by specialist plant breeders which has led to a great improvement both in
colour and form in this tough group of winter flowering plants. Lambley is proud to
offer the results of some of the best of this breeding. I find in my own garden that the
dark flowered forms, beautiful though they are, need to be planted rather sparingly
as their full beauty is only realised when surrounded by paler colours. The paler
colours make a much more telling show in the dull light of winter than the darker
clones which can get lost in the gloom.

A very small growing grass of the North
American dry plains from Wisconsin to
California. In full flower it is only 35cm
tall making it suitable for planting in rock
gardens. The red tinted flowers are held
