American Society of Botanical Artists 20th Annual Meeting and Conference Denver, 2014 Coloured Pencil – Tips and Tricks Ann Swan Saturday, October 18 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Westin - McCourt Ann will share with you her latest tips and tricks most of which are not in her book. She will demonstrate techniques to help you achieve vibrant colour mixes, detailed vein structures and touchable textures, including underpainting, and with careful guidance you can try out these techniques for yourselves. Supply List: A selection of Colored Pencils particularly: Faber Castell Polychromos 101 White 103 Ivory 278 Chrome Oxide Green 174 Chromium Green Opaque 173 Olive Green Yellowish 168 Earth Green Yellowish 170 May Green 172 Earth Green 190 Venetian Red A selection of reds Prismacolor White Scarlet Lake Colorless Blender Pencil Cream Marker Pen Paper Fabriano 5 Classico Hot Pressed 300gms/140lbs Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed 300gms Or similar hot pressed watercolour paper Other Equipment *Pergamano 0.5 embossing tool or similar Kneadable eraser *Empty Copic Marker Pen Continued… Baby Oil (Ann will have some available on the day if you can’t locate any) *Blender Pen (Various make available Copic, Prismacolor, Letraset) Items marked with * can be ordered in advance from Ann on her website stating when you order that you will be attending her workshop in Denver. Orders need to be placed before 30th September as she will be leaving for the US early October and she will be bringing the equipment with her. Pencil Sharpener Eraser Graphite Pencils HB/F Please bring any other equipment you like to use plus something to rest your work as there are no drawing boards supplied. Also a portable lamp if you are worried about possible low lighting levels at the hotel. I have no previous knowledge of the venue so I suggest you come prepared. BIO: Ann is an internationally acclaimed botanical artist, passionate about drawing and the use of colored pencils. Author of ‘Plant Portraits with Colored Pencils’, with four RHS Gold Medals to her name, she is an accomplished teacher always evolving and incorporating new techniques into her work.
