Plane Talk Class chat on pages 2, 3 RECOGNITION on page 4 EVENTS Aviation Institute of Maintenance Newsletter JULY 2016 VOLUME 26, ISSUE 3 Las Vegas Announces Internship Program with Allegiant Airlines on page 5, 6, 8 GRADUATES on page 7 Local High School Students Get Taste of Life as an Airplane Mechanic at Oakland Campus By Lisa Nordman, AML T he Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Las Vegas is proud to announce that we have entered into a paid internship partnership with Allegiant Airlines. We have outlined a process in conjunction with Allegiant whereby our students will be selected for an internship based on specific attendance, academic performance and student leadership criteria. Allegiant will meet with select students, first in an informational session scheduled for July 28th, 2016, followed by a robust application process to be completed by the student, and finally in qualifying interviews. The internship platform is set up to allow students to complete their education at AIM Las Vegas while interning part-time at Allegiant in a paid intern role. The comprehensive training performance ratings will be assessed by Allegiant senior maintenance management. The students will be expected to complete all written exams as well as their O&P in obtaining their A&P certification. Once that is done, Allegiant has plans to move forward to potentially hire our graduates. This platform is also created to promote a continuous relationship between AIM Las Vegas and Allegiant Airlines. n “ They learned about turbine engines, ran the thrust break system, and used the fiber optic cable to do an internal inspection on a turbine engine.” O n Friday May 21, 2016, Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Oakland hosted a bus trip for Eden ROP, who represents 4 districts in the Bay area: Hayward, Oakland, San Leandro and Alameda. The students represented the following classes; Woodshop, Automotive 1, Automotive 2 and Metal Shop. While at the AIM campus, they learned about turbine engines, ran the thrust break system, and used the fiber optic cable to do an internal inspection on a turbine engine. They removed a cylinder from a reciprocating engine, learned about landing gear, safety wire training and riveting. The primary teacher was David Ortiz and he said, “this is probably the best field trip they attended and if he had the time he would take the program, too.” He also said that he was so happy that Thomas, AIM Oakland’s Community Outreach Representative, visited his class because without that outreach, their students never would have known about this option. Several of the students were so excited about the program they provided us referrals and are encouraging their siblings to come with them to Jet Camp. n Chesapeake Receives NATA 5-Star Award It goes without saying that Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certified technicians never stop learning and the A&P Instructors at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) in Chesapeake, VA are a shining example of this. Recently, the campus’s instructors received, from the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), a 5-star Aviation Maintenance Technician Employer Recognition award. The National Air Transportation Association acknowledges companies that value maintenance training and AIM Chesapeake is very proud to have earned this distinction. “This award goes a long way in showing the general public and our students that continual training in our industry is a way of life” says Brad Groom, Director of Education. n Back L to R: Ric Ryburn, Dominic Cummings, Thomas Stevens, Tim Murray, Ken Panissidi, Tim Carter (Shop Supervisor), and Dan Burke; Front L to R: Brad Groom (Director of Education), Jeremiah Lee, Nancy Jones (Past ATEC Instructor of the Year), Jerry Snyder (Charles E. Class Chat 2 Christmas Comes Early for Manassas PSA Airlines Meets with Indianapolis Students By Marion J. Dobbins & Esteban Jimenez, AMM By Erica Wheeler, AMI W PSA Airlines visited Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Indianapolis on June 15th to give a presentation and interview pending and recent graduates. PSA Airlines’ corporate office is located in Dayton, Ohio. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines and exclusively operate Bombardier regional jet aircraft. PSA has grown exponentially in the last two years and will be operating over 150 Bombardier CRJ aircraft by the end of this year. “We are really in an expansion phase,” stated Shaun Bauman, Human Resources Recruiter for PSA. “Currently, we are under construction to build a new hangar in our Dayton facility.” PSA has crew bases all across the United States, giving our students the opportunity to move around. hile the summer season is just getting underway, thoughts of the Christmas season are probably the last thing on anyone’s mind. However, students and staff at Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Manassas received a gift that Santa and his elves would be jealous to see. The campus was the lucky recipient of an experimental helicopter, which was donated by the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center. This generous gift gave the campus an opportunity to put a unique spin on a well-known holiday poem… “T ’was, the night before Christmas and all through Houston Students Visit Local Aviation Facilities By Vance Watson, AMH Sean Jones, a current AIM student graduating in August, had several things to say about PSA. “The best part about PSA is the great benefits they have to offer. There is lots of room for advancement with the company and they are always working on the latest technology in the industry. PSA is a great place to start your career as an A & P mechanic.” Ben Akers, another student, was impressed with their presentation as well. “They seem like a solid, growing company that has secure job opportunities for A & P mechanics right out of school with no experience,” stated Ben. He will not graduate until January but now has a goal to join on with PSA. PSA has given contingent offers to students pending completion of their certifications. With the expansion of the new hangar, they are planning on doing some serious recruiting for the rest of the year. Since their corporate office is located only about an hour and a half away from Indianapolis, some students have expressed possibly commuting or even getting a place in-between here and Dayton. PSA plans on visiting again in the fall and is making trips to a number of other AIM campuses as well. n the shop, not a mechanic, was stirring, not even a prop. The wrenches were hung in the tool room with care as not to be lost in an engine, oh dear. When out of nowhere a red chopper appeared, void of a sleigh and eight tiny reindeer. It wasn’t from Santa, nor from a store, but from a nice little school, who needed no more. So Christmas came early, on a beautiful summer’s eve, with a present for students not wanting to leave. They climb in the pit and pretend to yaw and make weird noises and steer with awe. This is our story, silly it may be, but truth be told it became a reality.” n By Cindy Grise, AMD A IM Houston participated in a field trip on June 8th, 2016. Mr. Vance Watson’s Airframe Electrical class visited United Airlines heavy check facility at the Houston Hobby Airport. During their visit, they had the unique opportunity to see how the aircraft are inspected and repaired on a time set basis. Our guide showed the students all of the aircraft’s various systems and how they operate. When the students get out of the classroom and see what their future jobs can be like, it gives them the incentive to finish school, get their A&P certification, and start their new careers in aviation. n Class Chat 3 Employers Find Success in Recruiting at Orlando A IM Orlando hosted eight employers in eight weeks, when they stopped by the campus for the day to give career presentations, conduct interviews, make job offers and talk to graduates to answer any and all questions about applying. During the week of April 4-7, 2016, five employers (Envoy Air, Trans States Airlines, Van Wagner Airship Group, Embraer Executive Jets and PlaneTechs) visited the campus and even presented job offers to some of our graduates. Over the course of the 4-day event, more than 30 grads received interviews and multiple job offers resulted. In May, three other employers: SkyWest Airlines, Piedmont Airlines and General Atomics, came to spend the day and to conduct interviews as well. SkyWest sent David Hess from the Nashville, TN maintenance base to present and conduct interviews. Kevin Dallaire with Piedmont Airlines also spoke and conducted soft interviews for A&P mechanics as well as one of our Aircraft Dispatcher students. General Atomics had their integration manager, Mr. Art Beck, and H.R. Director, Kathy Sexton, on campus to present and talk to graduates about deployable and non-deployable engine mechanic and integration technician (structures/composites) positions with their company based in California. United Airlines Presents Opportunities to Orlando Students & Grads All eight employers asked if they could return in the future months to recruit from our campus again, to which we enthusiastically said “Yes!” What a great opportunity for graduates to have interviews and job offers on-site at the campus from which they graduated. n Oakland Campus Opens Hangar Doors to Teens at Local Christian School A viation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Oakland is always looking for an opportunities to share the our training program with the youth of our community. Back on February 24th, the campus welcomed students from El Sobrante Christian School for a special field trip. The El Sobrante’s principal was very excited about scheduling this bus trip, as he believed most students had no awareness of the aviation field. The students were toured around the campus’s classrooms, labs and hangar and even got the opportunity to put on some safety goggles and do some actual hands-on training. After the trip, the principal called By Joe Vaught, AMO to say that he got nothing but positive feedback from the students and that the trip to AIM was one of the best field trips he’s ever gone on. n On Thursday, May 26, 2016, Mr. Dave Shotsberger, The Southeast Regional Manager of Technical Operations with United Airlines, was at AIM Orlando to speak with all current students (day & evening), and graduates. Mr. Shotsberger talked to the students about what United, a premium employer, expects when recruiting for their A&P technicians. Subjects such as the importance of good attendance (no deficiencies), the attainment of the A&P certification, exceptional grades and enthusiasm with mechanical work, as well as overall mechanical aptitude were discussed when he spoke of the qualities they look for in an A&P mechanic to hire. He also stressed how important the little things like always wearing your badge, and looking and acting professional, are in showing a United recruiter that a student/ grad is a “premium” candidate. Mr. Shotsberger also shared that United is rolling out amazing job opportunities for A&P mechanics with United: 400-500 A&P job opportunities for those with their A&P certification with no required experience! What an awesome day to hear from the inside of United Airlines’ technical operations! Thanks Mr. Shotsberger and United Airlines, for two awesome presentations to our students and graduates! n Recognition 4 Philly Graduates Recognized at Summer By Gabrielle Farrell, AMP Commencement Ceremony Manassas Recognizes Its Very Own Dynamic Duo By Marion J. Dobbins, AMM Look who’s here! Why it’s AIM Manassas’ own dynamic duo of graduates, Valedictorian Frances Portillo and Matthew Hinkle, Summa Cum Laude. Upon graduation, these two, highly-focused individuals let no time pass in getting their A&P License. Taking advantage of the Professional Aviation Maintenance Certification (PAMC) course to refresh and train for their written, oral and practical exams, these high achievers are already licensed and employed. Frances Portillo is working at West Side Aviation, and Matt is planting roots in Richmond, with Millionaire Airlines. While Frances attended classes at AMM she worked a full-time job; a job which sometimes required her to work 60+ hours a week. Not only that, she maintained a 4.0 GPA and barely missed any class time. This dynamic duo certainly has made AIM proud! n T he Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) in Philadelphia held their summer graduation ceremony on June 3, 2016. The ceremony took place in the airframe hangar on campus, with planes, helicopters, and engines setting the backdrop. The ceremony was attended by 60 graduates and their families. “Pomp and Circumstance” accompanied the graduates and they marched in wearing their royal blue caps and gowns. Kyle Berry, Campus Executive Director, gave the opening speech welcoming everyone in attendance. Guest speakers Maureen Berry, a previous graduate & now Spirit Airlines employee, and Kenneth Chann, Senior AvGas R&D Technician from Crown Consulting, shared their personal stories and motivation for the graduates’ future careers. Diplomas were presented by Mr. Berry and Stephanie Makhoul, Assistant Campus Director. Gabrielle Farrell and Jessica Weney, Career Service Coordinators, presented awards and gifts for high-achieving graduates with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The event concluded with a Orlando AMT Day Essay Winner To celebrate National Aviation Maintenance Day 2016, AIM Orlando held an essay contest where we asked students to describe the Characteristics of a Successful Aviation Maintenance Technician. The winning essay received a set of tools to help the student in his future as an AMT professional. Caleb Smith was the author of the essay that came in first place. In his essay, he summarized that a successful Aviation Maintenance Technician has integrity, the ability to pay attention to small details, possesses strong organization skills, is able to communicate clearly, has a willingness to learn, and has good common sense. With a focus on developing these skills, and putting the same skills into regular practice, any AMT should be able to succeed. Caleb has demonstrated many of these characteristics as a student already. He was nominated and selected as Student of the Block for September 2015. He is a natural leader among his classmates and has clear goals for his future in the aviation industry. “My goal upon completing my A&P involves finding a career with a reputable company. My ideal job would involve private sector to work on military aircraft. I also have hopes of using my college degree to transition into upper management, or eventually starting my own business someday.” n wonderful slideshow presentation, capturing moments in time over the last two years of our graduates at AIM Philly. On behalf of all staff and faculty we’d like to say congratulations to the graduating class of summer 2016. We are all very proud of your accomplishments. n Orlando Grad Accepted into JetBlue’s A&P Apprenticeship Program By Joe Vaught, AMO C ongratulations to AIM Orlando graduate Jose Batista, who was accepted into JetBlue Airways A&P Mechanic Apprenticeship Program. This program is designed to accept a certain number of recent A&P school graduates who have earned their FAA A&P certification, to join a JetBlue maintenance base at Boston, LaGuardia (NY) or JFK (NY) airports for a year as well as attend training courses at the JetBlue University (JBU) located in Orlando, FL. Mr. Batista is stationed in Boston, where he is currently working as an apprentice A&P mechanic, shadowing an experienced A&P with JetBlue. After a year of satisfactory job performance, Jose has the opportunity to be hired on as a general, entry level, A&P mechanic with the airline, that would include an increase in hourly pay rate as well. We congratulate Jose on being chosen to embark on this awesome journey with an airline he’s dreamed of being able to work for. Way to go Jose! Keep up the outstanding work and continue to aim for success! n Events 5 Kansas City Student Awarded Scholarship from Kansas City Business Aviation Association Dallas Campus Gives Students Chance to Meet with Potential Employers J ustin Reimer, a night student at Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Kansas City, was awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the Kansas City Business Aviation Association on Tuesday, June 21st at the campus’s monthly awards assembly. The presenter, Kyle Eiserer, gave some background information about the award and why Justin was chosen from among the many worthy students that applied. AIM Kansas City congratulates Justin for his outstanding academic achievements and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors. Also that day, the Student Services department hosted an intimate gathering of employers to assist students in obtaining gainful employment while attending school. Many students find it necessary to work while they study, however finding a job that will fit into their FAA-mandated schedule isn’t always easy. Luckily, one Presenter, Kyle Eiserer (left) and scholarship winner Justin Reimer (right). of the employers, Whelan Security, which handles security for the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs, is right across the street from the campus. Their location makes getting between school and work a lot easier, plus…FREE games and concerts while they’re working! n Oakland Hosts Student Appreciation Day Current AIM students and past AIM graduates meet face to face with recruiters in the aviation industry. O n May 27th, AIM Oakland hosted a student appreciation day. Staff from all departments served ice cream to students, who had choices of different sundae toppings. Along with the ice cream, students took part in a football target contest and a pull-up contest. A huge shout out goes to evening shift winner Jameel Smith, who completed 21 pull-ups, and day shift winner Edward Banuelos who completed 27 pull-ups. Even Campus Executive Director Josh Smith, took a part in that challenge; getting in 12 pull-ups! Although he was not the winner of the pull-up contest, we still think our Campus Executive Director rocks. We ask, how many pull-ups can your school director do? n On April 6th, the Career Services department at Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Dallas gave its current students and past graduates an opportunity to meet face to face with recruiters from a number of aviation companies. There were 11 employers were on hand for the event and when all was said and done, a total of over 30 one-on-one interviews had been scheduled. A big thank you goes out to all of the companies that attended. The complete list of participating employers included Turbomecca, Solar Turbines, Aerotek, U.S. Aviation, Express Jet, Ameriflight, Air Serve, Flight Safety, Southwest Airlines, L-3, and UPS. n Events 6 Indianapolis Campus Holds AMT Week Celebration By Kiley Young, AMI Atlanta Celebrates AMT Day By Deb Wade, AMA E very year, May 24th is recognized in the United States as National Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) Day. AMT Day recognizes the efforts of aviation maintenance professionals as well as the achievements of Charles Edward Taylor, the man who built the engine used to power the airplane of the Wright brothers. The date of May 24 was selected as it is the birth date of Taylor. Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Indianapolis used that week to celebrate with students in a variety of ways. Activities were decided upon based on input from staff, students, and instructors. The week kicked off with each class competing against one another in a mouse trap race car competition. Each class was instructed to build a vehicle using the power of two standard mouse traps and the vehicle that traveled the furthest distance was the winner. Vehicles were to be powered by the energy of a wound-up mousetrap’s spring. Classes that won the race received wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. A paper airplane contest was also held during AMT week. Students were instructed to build paper airplanes that could travel the furthest distance, as well as planes that would stay in the air the longest. The final round instructed participants to land as many paper airplanes through various sized holes that were assigned point values. Each participant got one minute to score as many points as possible. The winner of the contest received a Kindle Fire tablet. Staff and students (as well as prospective and recent grads) received a green AMT Day t-shirt with the AIM logo and info to commemorate the week. AIM student Rodney Jones did not hesitate to pose for a picture with his new AIM shirt. Many of the students expressed their excitement at having a new t-shirt as they often get bored with the same navy blue AIM shirt every day. A recent graduate, Jason Wright, stated “I really enjoyed the contests and the competitiveness from each class during the mouse trap race.” Every student received pizza for lunch one day and each was entered into a raffle to receive tickets to the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. Students were entered into the raffle for the race tickets every time they attended class all day throughout AMT week. To end the week-long celebration, staff served cake and unveiled the newest addition to our campus, a veteran’s lounge, where students can unwind, study, or have access to resources for our students in uniform. AMT Week is something our staff and students always look forward to and we cannot wait until next year! n O n May 24, AMA celebrated AMT day with a cook out and a few hours of fun in the hangar. CED Ben Sitton, DOE Del Key, Administrative Assistant Evan Carr, and VA Officer Austin Houk grilled up a storm with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, and chicken breasts. Staff was all hands on deck to serve over 600 students! Areas were set up in the hangar by the Coordinators and classes were released to let the games begin! Nerf darts and nerf footballs were in the air as well as Frisbees, paper airplanes and hula hoops. Instructors led their classes from station to station in hopes of gaining the most points and beating out the other classes. Fun was had by both our aviation and welding students. It was a great break from the daily routine. n Houston Campus Celebrates AMT Day By Robert Banks, AMH AIM Houston celebrated AMT Day on May 24th in a big way. The hangar was decorated and set up for students and guests to celebrate a career in aviation. Activities included campus tours, darts, putt putt golf and hacky sack. Fantastic food was served by staff and faculty. Admissions accepted two applications from motivated guests wanting to become AMTs. The highlight of the event was a drawing with various give-a-ways. Even the games were put on hold as students paused in anticipation to hear their name called. Of course you had to be present to win as the grand prize of the afternoon was a Craftsman tool set. The wait was worth it for only 1 lucky winner who returned to class with a big smile. It was a great AMT Day in Houston. n Graduates ABDALLAH, Hakeem J AMT Abdelrahim, Mohamed AMT Acera, Mark AMT ACOSTA, Agustin AMT* Adobah, Simon AMT AGUILAR, Eduardo A AMT Aguilar, Josue Giovanni AMT ** AJIMATI, Sunday AMT * Aki, A AMT ** ALDRICH, Chance AMT*** Allsop, Jennifer AMTE*** Alonso, Jovanni Ryan AMT *** Alston, Brandin S L AMT *** Alvarado, K AMT ** ALVAREZ, Bryant AMT ALVES, Aaron AMT ** Amaya Escobar, Carlos A AMT *** AMBROSIO, Neftali AMT** AMDUR, Bryce AMT *** ANDERSON, Morgen M AMT * Aponte-Rodriguez, Hector AMT * ARREAGA, Jorge A AMT Asfaw, Asfaw Zeleke AMT *** ASHLOCK, Anthony AMTE * ATALIG, Baltazar AMT *** AVINA, Francisco AMT Awolesi, A AMT * Babb, B AMT Badgett, Michael Tremel WELD BAILEY, Matthew AMT Baker, Christopher Rome WELD Baker, Durell AMTE ** Ballesteros, J AMT ** BARAHONA, Gerardo AMT BARESEL, Cole D AMT* Barnes, T AMT BARRETO, Jeremy W AMT *** BDAIR, Ayman AMT BEARD, Roderick AMT BEAVER, Ariane AMT Beavers, Rodricus Lavaughn AMT BECK, Austin AMT*** BECK, Brandon AMT*** Beighle, William Troy AMTE * Bergbower, Stephen C AMTE * Bing, Elijah AMTE Bishop, Nathaniel James AMTE ** Blackwell, Matthew Gregory AMT ** BOATWRIGHT, Jerald A AMT* Bollinger, J AMT *** BOWEN, Kyle AMT Bowes, Ronnie Matthew AMT *** Boyd, E AMT * BOYD, Tenika S AMT AMT Bradford, Glen Bradshaw, Christopher M AMT*** AMTE Brewer, Thomas Darryl WELD Brinson, Anthony D WELD Brown, Jesse Clarence AMT *** BROWN, Nicholas A Brown, Sedrick Lovington AMT AMT ** Buckman, K AMT BURGOS, Daniel AMT Burgos, Lorenzo AMTE BURNS, Brian A AMT Burns, M AMT* BUSACCA, Brent R AMT CABALLERO, Hector Cabrera Rosario, Edward AMT Cabrera Rosario, Idelfonso AMT AMTE** CALDWELL, Andre AMT Callahan, Erich AMT *** CANDIS, Dontorius D AMT Carter, Logan AMT Carter, Matthew Akua AMTE*** CARUTHERS, Jenetta AMT * Castro, J Caviness, Areel Brerin Ayur AMT ** AMT CERVANTES, Juan M Champion, Dymitri Daveon WELD Charles, Danielle Dashaun AMT AMT *** CHATTERTON, Keith W AMT *** CHIGOY, Joshua D AMTE * Chu, L AMTE CLAEYS, Jason AMT*** CLANTON, Justin AMT *** CLAY, Eric M AMT Coaxum, Steven AMT ** Cobb, B AMTE Conner, Robert B AMTE CONNORS, Dale W AMT *** CORCHADO, Christie M AMT* CORNEJO, Juan A AMT ** CORONA, Anthony F AMT Cortes, Geovannie AMT COTTO Garcia, Angel J AMTE Cotto, Alexis AMT COUCH, Dustin AMT * COURSER, David R Cowley, Michael CROSS, Ben CROWELL, Darren CROWELL, Lucas Cuffee, O CULVERSON, James Cureton, Tarynn Vielka Currie, Timothy G L CUSHMAN, Cameron A DAFFAALLA, Ibrahim M DANCY, Rickey DANES, Devon M DAVILA, Hiram DAVIS, Benjamin DAVIS, Jeffrey DE JESUS, Ariel A DE JESUS, Enrique A Dean, Reanthony R DeFazio, Joshua Degelleke, J DEL MORAL, Victor J DEMEKE, Henok Argaw DEPEW, Daryn Dhondt-Caruso, Joseph M DILLARD, Kyle DIRIN SAMIMI FARD, Amir Dixon, J DOCTOR, Meshach Donahue, C Driskell, Emmett E Duenas, Lori DUFFY, Shaun N Dunn, Jamal Deante DYAS, Detrick R Eastep, Michael EIDELBERG, Joseph Eldred, Stephen Charles ELLIOTT, Travis L Enilo, Samuel Escoto, Abdiel Bladimir Escudero, Viner Esposito, Todd Raj Faretra, V FELDWISCH, Peter S Fenning, J Ferguson, Sebastian L B Ficklin Jr., Willie T. Welding Lunch & Learn with Caterpillar! AIM Atlanta hosted a Welding Lunch and Learn with two guests from Caterpillar’s Athens location. Why Caterpillar? Global exposure and opportunities, deep employee and leadership development resources, and compelling career paths make it possible to have the flexibility and excitement of a diverse career. LeeRoy Martin and Steve Griffin gave students great information regarding careers at Caterpillar. Our welding students were given valuable key points regarding the industry, soft skills needed for interviewing and background knowledge of welding with Caterpillar. There was an intense round of questions from students and faculty. We had an amazing lunch and an even more amazing discussion. Our students returned to class motivated and encouraged by this rewarding experience. We are proud to say it was a successful event! Lunch & Learn with Johnson Service Group! Johnson Service Group (JSG) was invited to AIM Atlanta on May 17th for another Lunch and Learn session. While the students enjoyed lunch, they had the pleasure of listening to recruiter, Deboris Woods. JSG has been establishing its position as a leader in the staffing industry. Since their inception in 1984, they have maintained their position as the most effective cross-industry staffing solution available. JSG’s growth throughout the years has extended to offices throughout the nation. They serve multiple industries from their major offices headquartered in Chicago, Illinois and Atlanta, Georgia, and through their local offices located within the United States and Canada. Mr. Woods gave an overview of the current opportunities available for entry level A&P Mechanics and explained the lucrative benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance and 401k options. After the presentation, all graduates with an A&P license, or those working towards licensure, were able to meet with Mr. Woods on campus. This event was well attended and Mr. Woods did an excellent job informing our students about current and future openings, locations, and salary ranges for this growing industry. This event was a success for AIM Atlanta! n Philly Campus Welcomes Employers for Career Fair O n Thursday May 19, 2016, Career Service Coordinators Gabrielle Farrell and Jessica Weney hosted a career fair in combination with an open house presented by the Admissions Department at Aviation Institute of Maintenance Philadelphia. Graduates, active students and prospective students all attended and had the opportunity to talk to employers about future and present career opportunities and education paths. A total of ten companies attended: Republic Airways, Express Jet, Textron, Spirit Airlines, Piedmont Airlines, Air Wisconsin, Aerotek, Cape Air, Legacy Aviation, and U.S. Army. Not only did company representatives attend, but graduates from AMP also appeared with their current employers! In addition, Piedmont Airlines held on site interviews for two A&P Mechanic positions that needed to be filled at the Philadelphia International Airport! By Gabrielle Farrell, AMP We received excellent feedback from all of the employers in attendance; all are very excited to be present at future career events hosted by AMP. n Working every day to save lives through transplant, Be the Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), visited the AIM Houston campus to inform our students as to how they can help save the lives of people with various life threatening diseases. A huge turnout of students came to support the cause and joined the Bone Marrow Registry! Our students learned that joining the registry it was a huge commitment, but in the end it results in an even bigger reward; a chance to save a life. We bid thank you to Altonet Filmore for coming to our campus and enlightening our students about this great way to give back to our community and to those who donated their time for this worthy cause. n
