This course has set the standard for complete clubmaking and repair instruction for two decades! During the course of this five-day session, each critical element of clubmaking (fitting, assembly and repair) receives extensive individual attention. While reviewing, understanding and mastering the basics of properly fitting a golfer with the proper equipment, students will be given detailed information on the materials used in modern equipment and the effect they have on performance. Students will learn the proper way to measure the specifications of a golf club and learn how to properly adapt the specifications to fit any golfer. Students will also learn to properly fit the entire set of clubs to the golfer’s game. The procedures for properly fitting woods, irons, hybrids and wedges will be covered. Also, the proper fitting of putters to the player’s game using the Maltby Putter Fitting System will be covered. The golf swing as it relates to the proper fitting of equipment is also covered. Understanding the cause and effect relationship of the golfer's swing and the effect on ball flight and performance is a key in professionally fitting a player to the right clubs. This cause and effect relationship is studied and the student will spend time evaluating different types of swings and the effect they have on ball flight. Students will be given a complete overview of the shafts role in golf club performance, including a complete review of shaft terminology and the manufacturing process of both steel and graphite composite shafts. All aspects of frequency matching will be covered, including the features and proper use of The Golfworks Frequency Analyzer, proper shaft trimming to achieve the desired flex, measuring and plotting clubs on a frequency graph and head specifications and their effect on frequency. Each student will build a set of irons using the frequency matching process. Students will also learn how to determine the overall flex profile of a shaft, using frequency, and how to apply this information to the shaft selection process. Students of the Professional Shaft Technology School will be taken through an in depth study of shaft trimming and how the process affects the flex and playability of a shaft. Shaft fitting principles will also be covered. The students will complete a review of the Maltby Playability Factor for shafts and how to use it as a fitting tool. It is required that each student have experience in golf club assembly*. It s recommended (not required) that each student bring their personal set of clubs to use for a portion of the evaluation process.
