Don’t miss out on the wealth of attractions, adventures and experiences Los Angeles has to offer
L
os Angeles is the entertainment capital of
the world, and with a population of about
four million it is the largest city in Southern
California and the second largest in the
United States. A truly unique destination
that combines the glitz of Hollywood and the
natural beauty of the coast, here you’ll find
a seemingly endless variety of activities and
attractions to keep you entertained. Whether
you want to relax on a private beach before
hitting Sunset Strip’s exclusive clubs aglitter
with celebrities, go on an exclusive VIP tour
of the world-famous Universal Studios or
take in some culture at one of the city’s 300
museums, you’ll find something to suit your
taste. Of course, countless entertainment
award ceremonies throughout the year,
among them the Oscars and the Grammys,
give Elite Travelers the opportunity to mingle
with Hollywood A-listers at exclusive afterparties and red-carpet events.
Universal Studios
The Pier at Paradise Cove
Universal Studios hollywood
Take an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour for the ultimate Hollywood
experience. Visit closed sets, hear personal stories, tour the entire backlot,
including Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds set, and visit the enormous
prop warehouse. Additional privileges include the VIP Lounge, where
you’ll have a continental breakfast upon arrival, priority entry to the park,
gourmet lunch in the VIP dining room and valet parking.
Paradise Cove Private Beach
Owner Bob Morris wants to preserve the Southern Californian beach
lifestyle he grew up with and has been running the Paradise Cove
beach café since 1998. Food and beverages are served all day in the
relaxed café, and the pier stretching out to sea offers fantastic views
from Palos Verdes to Point Dume, as well as the option to fish. Other
activities include beach volleyball, tide-pooling and bodysurfing.
NIGHT OF 100 STARS
For the last two decades the veteran music agent Norby Walters has
hosted the most exclusive Oscars-night party at The Beverly Hills Hotel.
The black-tie event unfolds in the luxury hotel’s magnificent Crystal
Ballroom with former Oscar winners and nominees attending
to pay tribute to their favorite ceremony at the sit-down dinner party.
The ballroom was the first at the hotel and has maintained the art
deco style capturing the expansive history of the property. With a
private foyer, built-in stage, dance floor and baby grand pianos and
illuminated by sparkling chandeliers it is the perfect venue for a
glamorous evening. The event began in 1990 as a way for previous
nominees and Hollywood stars to celebrate the awards ceremony
and has grown both in size and grandeur ever since. The affair now
attracts well over 100 celebrities and previous attendees include James
Cromwell, Shirley Jones, Lynn Redgrave, James Whitmore, Patricia
Neal and David Hasselhoff. With such a wide range of guests each year,
memorable moments include Gary Coleman perched on Anna Nicole
Smith’s lap and Gary Busey giving Bridget Fonda life lessons.

“Drive or be driven to Santa Barbara,
a beautiful coastal city a pleasant two-hour
drive from Beverly Hills. With gorgeous
beaches and mountains, it has several points
of interest and plenty to do. Have breakfast
at the Ballard Inn & Restaurant, a romantic
bed and breakfast that serves Asian-infused
new French cuisine using local produce.
Then enjoy a massage at the Bacara Resort,
which has an extraordinary spa, golf course
and beautiful facilities, including 26 fullservice poolside private cabanas and three
swimming pools with spectacular views
overlooking the ocean. Have lunch at
Trattoria Grappolo in the hills of Santa
Barbara which is perfect for great Tuscan
fare and mountain scenery. A secret favorite
oasis, the restaurant features local wines
and a very authentic menu.

Day 1
Be greeted at the airport by the hotel’s
chauffeur who will take you to The Ivy or
Spago for lunch. Here you’ll meet your
personal stylist / shopper (Aly with Style
Chic is a favorite), who will introduce you to
all the best boutiques on Rodeo, Melrose and
Robertson, help you get ready for the evening
and have a photographer on call to capture
all the special moments. Depending on the
time of year, you could be treated to a VIP
Grammy Package, with access to the afterparty, or a VIP box at the Hollywood Bowl
including a specially prepared tasting menu
by the restaurant’s executive chef Guillaume
Burlion. To wind down a perfect day, have
your chauffeur drive you to Bar 1200, which,
after all these years, still retains its mystique
without being pretentious.
Day 2
After a night out, enjoy a superb breakfast
in bed. Relax by the villa pool in a private
cabana before enjoying a scenic drive in a
Bentley or another luxury vehicle. For an
exhilarating alternative, try the helicopter ride
to Malibu, where you can enjoy a private tour
of the Rosenthal Winery and perhaps sample
some of the produce. In the afternoon, return
to the hotel to unwind with customized spa
treatments either in your suite or at the spa.

as the shops and galleries open, and the agents and

Take a drive to Santa Monica and Malibu and see the
new Santa Monica Place with a stroll up Third Street

way to Zuma Beach in Malibu for a true California
experience. On your way back from Malibu, take
Sunset Boulevard all the way into West Hollywood to
the area known as Sunset Plaza, where you’ll lunch
at one of the many al fresco eateries. Head back to

ailing conditions are almost
perfect all year round, and being
on the coast, Los Angeles has a strong
maritime tradition. Water sports are
an important part of the L.A. lifestyle
Marinas
with surfing, sailing and fishing
being popular pastimes. Los Angeles’
restaurants are known for their use of
fresh seafood, but if you want to try your
hand at catching your own, sport fishing
boats leave from Marina del Rey and
Long Beach. See Pacific gray whales,
dolphins, California sea lions, and other
marine life off the coast and explore
outposts like tranquil Catalina Island.

Nestled along the Los Angeles coastline and situated in an unspoilt part
of Los Angeles County, Marina del Rey serves as the recreational boating
center for the L.A. area. Boasting more than 5,200 slips just outside the
City of Los Angeles, it’s an ideal location for seafaring visitors. Adjacent
to Venice Beach, Marina del Rey lies three miles from Santa Monica and
is just 4.2 miles north of Los Angeles International Airport. Today, the
marina is celebrated for being one of the only places in Los Angeles
where visitors and locals can easily access the Pacific Ocean and enjoy
breathtaking views of the coast. If you need a break from the hectic Los
Angeles lifestyle, the peaceful Catalina Island is just a short boat trip
away where visitors can experience a totally different pace of life. The
harbor itself is a prime location for birdwatching where species include
egrets, great blue herons and least terns. There are also plenty of places
to eat, drink and shop nearby.

WHEN BEST TO GO
Some of the best times to visit L.A. are the spring
months of March and April and the fall months
of October and November. It is warm during the
day but not hot, and nights can be cool enough
to require jackets. The sky is generally clear in
spring, and in late autumn it’s blown clear by the
famous Santa Ana winds.
LOCAL CUSTOMS
Tipping is normal practice in most of America.
Waiters will expect 15 to 20 per cent and taxi
drivers, hairdressers and service personnel
expect 10 to 15 per cent. Topless sunbathing
is frowned upon and the authorities have been
known to dish out fines. It is also illegal to drink
alcohol in public spaces.
LANGUAGE
English
ATTIRE
Los Angeles has no real dress code, with jeans
being acceptable in almost every situation.
Granted, the jeans may be couture, but California
casual style allows you to dress up a pair of jeans
and go pretty much anywhere. A jacket with
jeans, or slacks, a button-down shirt and jacket
are fairly standard attire for restaurants in L.A.
