2 I have given just a few

1.To promote the keeping of cichlids;
2.To gain and disseminate knowledge of cichlids, their habits and attributes
through the use of slides, films, books, lectures, practical demonstrations,

members or experts in the field;
3.To assist, in any way possible, the establishment and/or maintenance of
approved public aquaria;
4.To be involved in the education of the general public with regard to the benefits
of fishkeeping (particularly cichlids), and the potentially harmful effects of
animal mismanagement;
5.To promote fellowship between members;
6.To further the conservation of species and their natural habitats;

After rinsing them off, they
are placed in rain water
with methylene blue and
heavy aeration. The eggs

and the fry are removed
and placed in clean rain
water. In five days the fry
are free-swimming. Heavy
aeration seems important
to keep the fry circulating
in the jar and avoid clumping.
That brings us to the hardest part - getting the fry to
survive. The fry are very
thin, about the size of

even smaller mouths. They
are constantly moving and
picking at everything,
seemingly trying to feed. I
have tried "Liquifry'" micro
powdered food, egg yolk,
etc but have only had limited success in getting the
fry to the brine shrimp
stage and beyond. It
appears that they are very
finicky eaters and that
water quality must be
extremely high. Even when
the fry begin eating brine
shrimp it is difficult to tell,
since they don't show the
typical orange belly. The
tendency is often to over-

them. To keep food in front

do not survive as long.

I have obtained about 150
fry so far but it is frustrating to have so low a percentage of survival.
