• PolyTuf Textured Powder Coating
The Raypak gas heater has a polyester-coated, non-corrosive cabinet that is more durable
than solventborne- and waterborne-coated metal cabinets. Every piece of sheet metal goes
through a 7-stage wash system, making certain the powder paint has a perfect bond.
Underneath the tough, yet beautiful finish you will find galvanized metal that offers superior rust prevention and years of durable service.
• Wind-Resistant Design
No need for fans to combat drafting problems. This heater is designed to draft naturally in
outdoor installations with its exclusive low-profile design. It is so thoughtfully and carefully designed it actually protects itself from the things that tend to stifle ordinary pool and
spa heaters. It delivers uninterrupted heating performance regardless of falling leaves,
wind, airborne debris, rain, downdrafts, updrafts, sleet, snow, etc.
• Brass Headers
Brass headers prevent rust stains from harming your pool or spa’s surface, giving you years
of trouble-free swimming pleasure.
• All-Copper-Fin-Tube Heat Exchanger
The fin tubes of the heat exchanger are each made from a single piece of extruded copper.
This integral-fin design allows maximum heat transfer to be attained and maintained.
• 1-1/2” Water Connections
Supplied with every Raypak 055 heater is a set of 1-1/2" flange connections to make your
installation secure and effortless.
• Burner Tray
Every burner tray is built to last, from the stainless steel burners to the aluminized metal
used in the heat sensitive areas. Innovative design allows for the easy removal of the tray
and burners for servicing.
• Fire Tile
A ceramic fiber combustion box keeps your heater running efficiently while keeping the outside jacket cool. By using this space-age material the heater won't retain residual heat
after it is turned off, allowing it to be installed without the use of costly metal heat sinks.
• Fuel-Efficient
Energy-smart Raypak heaters consistently achieve the highest efficiency ratings. They
exceed all federal and state standards.
Electronic ignition models only
• Electronic Ignition
Raypak Versa heaters come standard with intermittent spark ignition pilot safety controls.
What this means is that the pilot only comes on when there is a call for heat. This provides
an energy-efficient way to control your heater’s gas usage by eliminating the need for a continuous pilot.
• Dual Voltage 120/240v
The Raypak Versa electronic heater can easily be hooked up to 120/240v power. The heater
comes factory wired for 240v, but can be easily converted to 120v. No other small heater
offers you this much flexibility.
Millivolt models only
• Mechanical Thermostat
The Raypak millivolt gas heater comes with one mechanical thermostat. This control allows
you to set your pool or spa temperature precisely at your favorite setting.
• Millivolt Controls
No power source is required for the Raypak Millivolt heater. All operating electricity is supplied by the pilot thermocouple.

heater will raise the temperature of a 400-square-foot pool 1 °F per
hour.
Your VERSA is equipped with a unique all-copper-fin-tube heat
exchanger, designed for efficient heat transfer, and built to provide
years of trouble-free performance. Both header castings are made
of porcelainized cast iron for durability and resistance to corrosion.
Your VERSA is also available with optional bronze headers for

exchanger, designed for efficient heat transfer and built to provide
years of trouble-free performance. Both header castings are made

The table below shows the heating capacity of the VERSA 155 in
temperature rise per hour for a given amount of water. For example,
the heater will raise the temperature of a 400-gallon spa 36 °F in
one hour. (Spa size in gallons = surface area x average depth x 7.5.)
The same heater will raise the temperature of a 400-square-foot
pool 1-1/8 °F in one hour.

The Raypak Digital gas heater is equipped with a microprocessor-based control center. This control allows you to
set your pool or spa temperature precisely at your preferred
setting just by pressing an up or down temperature control
button. The digital display gives you a constant readout of
your water temperature. Just set it, and forget it! Truly simple. If only your VCR were this easy to operate.
Self-Diagnostic
Troubleshooting a Raypak gas heater has never been easier. The Raypak Digital has on-board diagnostic controls
that let the user and the service professional know what is
going on with the heater at all times. In the unlikely event
that a problem develops, the digital display easily points out
the problem and the probable cause. It's like having a service technician built into every heater!
Remote-Compatible
The Raypak Digital is compatible with most major pool control and remote systems on the market today. Any two- or three-wire remote
can connect to the Raypak Digital and be integrated into the pool control system of your choice.

Both water temperature and flow rate inside the heater are controlled to help
eliminate condensation, sooting and scale buildup that can shorten the life of
a heater. Raypak engineered the Unitherm Governor specifically for pool
heater applications, regulating low-temperature incoming water to help

Copper Fin Tube - Residential
The Raypak Digital is built to last with the highest quality integral
copper fin tube available. Copper is well known for its ability to
efficiently transfer heat, and is the first choice for pool and spa
heat exchanger construction. Pure copper has stood the test of time
as the industry standard for efficiency, quality and product life.
ASME Copper Fin Tube - Commercial
The Raypak Digital ASME is designed specifically to meet
State and local code requirements for public pools and commercial applications. This heater is equipped with a thicker walled fin tube allowing it to
meet the ASME certification requirements.
Cupro-Nickel Fin Tube - Specialty
Raypak Digital heaters can be ordered with cupro-nickel fin tube heat
exchangers for added protection against aggressive water chemistry. Although
rare, there are certain applications, like health club spa’s, where copper is just not
the best choice. Cupro-nickel offers superior tolerance to bad and fluctuating water
chemistry, thanks to a harder surface and a thicker walled fin tube.

ASME
The Raypak Digital heater is also available in an
optional ASME version. Raypak has state inspectors
on-site daily performing certifications for our pool
heater and commercial boiler production that may
require ASME. Being in the boiler business for over 50
years truly makes Raypak the leader for your commercial needs. Why ASME? Most local codes require that
public pools, pools that are in condominiums, apartments, or other commercial applications, be ASME
certified. ASME stands for American Society of
Mechanical Engineers, a non-profit group which sets
many industrial and manufacturing standards. A pool heater that is made to ASME standards must perform to a set of specifications as determined by ASME, specifically in relation to the operating water pressure the appliance can handle. Each and every ASME
heat exchanger that goes into a Raypak heater is certified by a state inspector to make
sure it complies with all ASME codes for pool heaters.

iron glass-lined header. A metal header design allows for the higher working pressures

Sometimes, equipment rooms or unusual venting configurations require the use of a power
vent. Being the heater experts, we have this option for you when the need may arise.
Through-the-Wall Capable
The D-2 Power Vent assembly is a Category III mechanical draft venting system that operates
under a positive static pressure and prevents excessive condensate production in the vent. All
sizes are capable of relieving flue gases up to a maximum of 100 equivalent feet of vent
length. All models have a standard 4”-diameter exhaust connection.
Multi-Position
Using the Raypak-supplied adjustable 90° elbow, the flue gases may be discharged in any
direction (see D-2 Power Vent manual for details). The D-2 Power Vent is also dual-voltage
capable (120/240 volt) and engineered for long life and smooth operation.

exchangers for added protection against aggressive water chemistry. Although
rare, there are certain applications, like health club spa’s, where copper is just not
the best choice. Cupro-nickel offers superior tolerance to bad and fluctuating water
chemistry, thanks to a harder surface and a thicker walled fin tube.

The Raypak Digital heater is also available in an
optional ASME version. Raypak has state inspectors
on-site daily performing certifications for our pool
heater and commercial boiler production that may
require ASME. Being in the boiler business for over 50
years truly makes Raypak the leader for your commercial needs. Why ASME? Most local codes require that
public pools, pools that are in condominiums, apartments, or other commercial applications, be ASME
certified. ASME stands for American Society of
Mechanical Engineers, a non-profit group which sets
many industrial and manufacturing standards. A pool heater that is made to ASME standards must perform to a set of specifications as determined by ASME, specifically in relation to the operating water pressure the appliance can handle. Each and every ASME
heat exchanger that goes into a Raypak heater is certified by a state inspector to make
sure it complies with all ASME codes for pool heaters.

Sometimes, equipment rooms or unusual venting configurations require the use of a power
vent. Being the heater experts, we have this option for you when the need may arise.
Through-the-Wall Capable
The D-2 Power Vent assembly is a Category III mechanical draft venting system that operates
under a positive static pressure and prevents excessive condensate production in the vent. All
sizes are capable of relieving flue gases up to a maximum of 100 equivalent feet of vent
length. All models have a standard 4”-diameter exhaust connection.
Multi-Position
Using the Raypak-supplied adjustable 90° elbow, the flue gases may be discharged in any
direction (see D-2 Power Vent manual for details). The D-2 Power Vent is also dual-voltage
capable (120/240 volt) and engineered for long life and smooth operation.

Low Ambient Temperature
There are some climates that can challenge a heat pump’s performance. Areas that are subject to lower ambient temperatures, have a tendency to cause ice to build up on a heat pump's
condensing coil. This ice could damage a heat pump's internal components while starving the
unit of the air flow it needs to work properly. To combat this, most manufacturers build their
heat pumps with a "Defrost Mode." What most manufacturers don't tell you is that their units
can not heat your pool water while defrosting the coil!
With a Raypak Power Defrost heat pump, you can have your cake, and eat it, too! How is this
possible? ...simple! The more time your heat pump can spend heating the water, the quicker
you will achieve your desired swim temperature. While heating your pool, if the Raypak Power
Defrost Heat Pump senses damaging ice build up, the Power Defrost feature redirects a small
amount of the hot Freon gas back through the Condensing Coil. This removes any ice that may be forming
on the coil without stopping the heating process! This means that a Raypak Power Defrost heat pump gives
you the freedom to continue to heat your pool water even when the unit is defrosting itself. So while your
neighbor's "other brand" of heat pump has stopped heating the water and is still trying to “break the ice,”
you and your family will be swimming!

How Does it Work?
Raypak Heat-Cool units have a unique reversing valve which
enables the heat pump to not only take the chill out of the water,
but also put it back in...Cooling your pool water during the hot summer months! Normally, a heat pump will gather heat energy from
the air with its condensing coil. Using Freon, and several other
components, the heat is transferred over to your pool water. By
reversing this process the heat pump can actually take heat out of
the water, transfer it to the Freon, and eventually run it through the
condensing coil. The condensing coil dissipates the heat into the
air, much like a cars radiator.

Heat Exchanger

Four possible plumbing configurations make this unit the
right fit for almost any installation. The heater can be
plumbed entirely from the left or right side, or in a singlepass configuration where water can enter the left and exit
the right, or vice versa.

• Brass Headers
Brass headers prevent rust stains from harming your pool or spa’s surface, giving you years
of trouble-free swimming pleasure. They also allow for a corrosion free connection to your
spa plumbing, making any future servicing a snap.
• Copper Water Vessel
The Raypak Electric Spa heater has a completely non-ferous waterway. The cast brass
headers are connected with an all copper water tank. This ensures that the spa water only
comes in contact with a rust free environment. This helps keeps your spa rust stain free.
• 1-1/2” Water Connections
Every Raypak Electric Spa heater comes standard with 1-1/2" NTP male connections to
make your installation secure and effortless. No other special connections are required,
such as current collectors or heat sinks.
• Heating Element
The heart of any electric heater is the heating element. The Raypak Electric Spa heater
comes with a robust, incoloy sheathed heating element. The top of the element is 3/16”
stainless steel, again, ensuring a rust free environment.
• Contactor
Raypak Electric Spa heaters use commercial grade components. Take one look at the heavy
duty power contactor and you know this heater is built to last.
• Safety
Inside every Raypak Electric Spa heater is a built-in device to prevent overheating. In the
event the heater is energized when the water flow is insufficient, a resetable high limit will
prevent the heater from operating in an unsafe condition.
• 240v Operation
Both of the Raypak Electric Spa heater’s operate with 240v single phase power. The model
552 draws about 23 amps @240v and the model 1102 draws about 46 amps @240v.

Energy-smart Raypak heaters consistently achieve the highest efficiency ratings. They
