Norbert Biderman
Kirk McLauchlin
Presentation: “Developing & Sustaining an Innovative Culture”
Presentation: “Robots in Advanced Manufacturing – An Army of One”
Mr. Norbert Biderman is currently Director, 3M Defense, reporting
in 3M’s Industrial and Transportation Business. In this role, he is
responsible for business leadership in developing 3M’s emerging
presence in the Defense & Energy Sectors to drive growth and meet
the longer term strategic needs of the business. On October 13, 2010,
Norb was the recipient of the Defense Alliance’s annual Architect of
Defense Award. He also serves as an Advisory Board Member for SBA’s
Advance Power & Energy Cluster (APC) which is a catalyst in providing
innovative technology for the nation’s Warfighters while accelerating
regional economic development.
Kirk McLauchlin is the President and founder of Aerobotix, Inc.
In addition to his administrative responsibilities he is also the acting
Chief Engineer, responsible for the research and development efforts
as well as the technical oversight of the integrated system products.
Director 3M Defense
3M
Mr. Biderman joined 3M in 1979 after completing a BS in Organizational
Management at Quincy University, where he led this institution to three
National Championships in Soccer. Norb’s has held a number of sales,
marketing, and business management leadership positions in 3M.
He has been recognized with multiple “Golden Step” Awards, for new
product innovation, and was recognized with the prestigious Lew Lehr
award in Sales & Marketing at 3M.
President
Aerobotix Inc.
Mr. McLauchlin formed Aerobotix in 2005 due to the increasing
market for low volume, high value specialty production processes
requiring automation, and the relative shortage of companies which
could provide the flexibility and advanced level of engineering
integration required to produce what are essentially production
prototype systems. Having been involved with the early years of
hydraulic robots in the plastic injection molded parts finishing industry
while in college, followed by several years of engineering of autonomous
flight systems and robotic ultra-high pressure waterjet stripping systems,
to the current state-of-the-art development of hazardous environment
heavy payload robots used in specialty aerospace manufacturing,
he has continuously adapted to the emerging needs of integrated
robotic manufacturing processes. This has culminated in Aerobotix’s
position as the premiere robotic system integrator for aerospace &
military coating applications.
Mr. McLauchlin obtained his BS degree “With Highest Distinction” in
Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University in 1988.

Nat Frampton
President
Real Time Development Corporation
Presentation:
“MTConnect ® in Action - Integrating Agents, Connection Units and Inspection”
Nat Frampton has more than 22 years engineering experience
specializing in the design, development and delivery of integrated
control systems and services to the industrial automation and machine
tool industries. Mr. Frampton has served as a leading communicator of
the vision of Microsoft Technologies applied to the embedded
computing industry. Mr. Frampton has worked throughout the industry in
the development of new technologies for opening up closed legacy
technologies with the focus of enabling engineers to use tools to
improve their manufacturing processes.
WOUNDED WARRIOR
PROJECT
The NCDMM is honored to make a donation
to the Wounded Warrior Project on behalf
of each of this year’s speakers.
This donation helps make it possible for the
Wounded Warrior Project to fulfill its mission to
honor and empower wounded warriors and
provide assistance and programs to the injured
servicemen and women who continue to go to
extreme lengths to defend our freedom.
Nat has worked to develop tools and applications for the MTConnect®
community with open source initiatives and line of products called the
Solution Family providing low cost hardware and software solutions
spanning machine interfaces to enterprise integration.
SUMMIT Proceedings & Material Downloads
This year the majority of the SUMMIT presentations
will be posted on a secure web-site.
Within two weeks after SUMMIT 2012, you will receive an e-mail with
instructions on how to access the downloadable materials, which will
include presentations, speaker bios and attendee POC details. In order
to view the materials, you will need a username and password which will
be sent to you in separate e-mails.
The greatest casualty is being forgotten™
The material will be available for six weeks only and should
be accessed only by SUMMIT 2012 attendees.

AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology
represents and promotes U.S.-based manufacturing
technology and its members—those who design, build, sell and
service the continuously evolving technology that lies at the
heart of manufacturing.
Founded in 1902, and based
in Virginia, the association specializes in providing targeted
business assistance, extensive global support and business
intelligence systems and analysis. AMT advocates for advanced
manufacturing through innovation and R&D, as well as the
development of an education initiative known as Smartforce.
AMT owns and manages IMTS—The International Manufacturing
Tec hnology Show, whic h is the premier manufacturing
technology event in North America.

MTConnect ® is a basic first step in linking shop floor tec hnologies and moving toward the
goal of seamless manufacturing operation, by establishing an open and extensible c hannel of
communication for plug-and-play interconnectivity between devices, equipment and systems.
MTConnect allows sources to exc hange and understand eac h other’s data. That common
communication allows the development of applications aimed at providing more efficient
operations, improved production optimization and increased productivity.
Developed by AMT and powered by Actuate, MTInsight
provides cutting-edge business intelligence dashboards
that synthesize numerous data resources into an easyto-use graphical interface that enables more informed
decision making.

Government access to cutting-edge technology
with a faster product development and
transition cycle. Funds are obligated quickly
and awards made generally within 45 to 60
days. Not subject to the Federal Acquisition
Regulations, OTAs encourage small, start-up and
innovative businesses and academic institutions
to develop technology for the Government. In
partnership with the Federal Center for Energy,
Environment and Demilitarization (FCEED),
located at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J., CEED
received funding in excess of $30 million for
Research Project Awards from the Government
in Fiscal Year 2011, with approximately 85 per
cent subcontracted to “non-traditional” and/or
small businesses.
