June 12, 2016 - Saint Monica Parish
June 12, 2016 * 11th Sunday of Ordinary Time
ST. MONICA ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
A Continuous Catholic Presence Since 1854
THE
ST. MONICA PRAYED AND WEPT WITH HOPE FOR
CONVERSION OF HER HUSBAND AND SON FOR 30 YEARS!
St. Monica Parish was founded in 2013 by Bishop David
Zubik. The clergy and people of four parishes, representing
eight previous parishes, bravely accepted the call of the
Bishop to cooperate as people of faith in the power of the
Holy Spirit to Build a Church that is Alive! Christ has
asked this parish to be born so that the Faith may continue
to be proclaimed and lived in the upper Beaver Valley. The
Holy Eucharist has been praised and adored in this area
since 1854. St. Monica Parish with the assistance of our
Patroness, and her son St. Augustine, will continue to
spread the Catholic faith and to be the light of Christ to all
that we meet.

Gospel: Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 7:36 – 8:3
Have you ever done something that hurt someone, and then searched for them until you could apologi
ze? And did you continue to show them your sincerity of heart by lavishing them with attention throug
h texts and phone calls and gifts? Maybe you are the one who was hurt and are on the receiving end
of the apologetic behavior. In today’s Gospel reading we hear of a woman who showed EXTREME sorr
ow for her transgressions; and she did so by coming to Jesus
because she understood who He was. She “learned that he was at table in the house of the Pharisee” an
d she went to Him to express her sorrow. Because
He is
merciful, God is constantly seeking to reconcile us to Himself, even after we have
offended Him. “The Sacrament of Reconciliation is not just for wiping away the sins
already committed; the grace of the sacrament enables people to eradicate the
sinful habit in their lives.” (MC p 258) We don’t need to go to the length the woman in today’s Gospel did.
We can reconcile with God in confession. It’s a lot less messy than the oil.
AMDG: “The Sacrament of Penance is the sacrament of mercy par excellence. Sin, more than any oth

YOUTH GROUP
Dear Fellow Parishioners:
We send out a heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to all our
graduates. New and exciting challenges await all of them.
We, as a faith community, create strong morals and values
in our young people which makes us confident they have all
the tools to make good choices and decisions in their futures. We can always continue to keep them in our prayers.
Please continue to use your Angel Fund envelopes that are
included in your church packet of envelopes. Every donation,
no matter how small, continues to express to us, that you
value your parish school and the many years it represents.
We continue to accept registrations for preschool through
8th grades for the 2016-2017 school year. The school office
has sporadic hours during the summer but don’t hesitate to
call at anytime. The voicemail and mail is checked regularly.
We well always get back to you as soon as we possibly can.
We have grand plans for our 2016-2017 school year and
would like to include you in our SMCA family, so don’t hesitate to call with any questions or if interested in registering.
The school is so quiet and since all of the walls are bare and
the classrooms are cleaned up, it is very difficult to believe
another school year is behind us. Everyone who enters our
doors, students and families, add so much to our SMCA family. In the words of Bishop Zubik: “ Studies continue to underscore how Catholic school’s graduates contribute to the
ongoing mission of the Church and help to create a society
that reflects the values of Jesus Christ and the Gospel. The
Church and our world are made richer by the fruits of Catholic education.” In the words of the Diocese, “ Excellence is a
commitment that pays a clear dividend. The Catholic schools
of the Diocese of Pittsburgh offer that dividend as a gift to
our students, our community, and to the future.” All of us at
Saint Monica Catholic Academy are so very proud to be a
part of this rich tradition of Catholic education, especially in
the City of Beaver Falls where we have developed a rich rapport for the last 126 years.
We wish everyone a fun and very safe summer. We also encourage everyone to not take a vacation from church. We
are looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year and are
very proud to boast that it will be our 127th year! This is
quite an impressive history that we never take lightly. With
each new year, we feel a stronger responsibility to do our
history proud. We have a wonderful support system and I,
personally, cannot thank everyone of you enough for your
part in helping to keep Catholic education alive and well in
the City of Beaver Falls, PA.
And, as always, I thank you for your continued support of
your parish school and God Bless,
Mr. Brad Diamond, Principal
