A record 6,842 validated pizzeria owners, managers and operators attended in 2015. More than 37% were first-time attendees. 2. Estimated at $43 billion in annual sales and still growing, the pizza restaurant industry continues to be one of the healthiest and most vibrant segments in foodservice. A 2012 Technomic survey reports that 41 percent of consumers it polled now eat pizza once a week, compared to 26 percent two years previously. The Top 50 pizza companies control nearly 38,000 units with annual revenue exceeding $22 billion. Companies 51-100 control an additional 2,500 units, generating approximately $1.5 billion in annual sales. Selling ingredients, equipment and services to the largest companies requires one style of salesmanship; selling to the rest of the industry— representing an estimated $15 billion or more in annual revenue—relies heavily on building contacts at Pizza Expo. Reaching key executives at chains as well as profitable independent operators—the two groups highly represented by attendees—is critical to the success of any pizza-related business in search of buyers.
