We accomplish this by listening carefully to all your ideas, expectations and dreams. Presented by the Nursery & Garden Industry NSW & ACT (NGINA) D i r t y I d e a s f o r Ev Forget about size! If you have air and light, you too can be a gardener and enhance your life. ‘Dirty Ideas for Everyday Gardens’ was developed with the idea that any space has the potential to be a garden. Inspired by recent trends in upcycling, container and creative gardening, the team at NGINA set about creating minigardens for the most unlikely places. This includes such unique combinations as: converting a casserole dish into a herb garden; growing a tea plant in a teapot, or using an old bath for veggies or flowers. Don’t stop here - when you get home think about turning an old wardrobe into a vertical garden, hanging flowers on the washing line or make an old barbecue into superb herb garden... ...the possibilities are endless! Structurally the garden consists of three main components: 1. Front of House There’s a warm, homely and friendly welcome to anyone venturing through the front gate. As they walk up the path and across the veranda they are wondering what goes on behind the front door. For anyone watching it’s hard to describe the surprise on peoples’ faces as they step through that door! 2. Food, Foliage and Leisure You’ll be blown away by the inspirational planting in an old bath tub. Look for the unlikely combination of globe artichoke, fox glove, frothy everlastings and alyssum surrounded by kangaroo paws. Then there’s time to relax, time to garden and even some time to rest under a tree as the journey continues across a backyard with colour, seclusion, life and vibrancy for all to share. Note the tomatoes, strawberries and herbs. ver yd ay Ga rdens 3. Walls, Smalls and Talls Make sure every conceivable space has something that is eye catching, edible, exciting or entertaining. Keep an eye out for the vertical espaliered citrus and olive trees, the upcycled long unused iron stove, a ladder on its last legs and feature trees lining the exit. Above all, the objective of this garden is to demonstrate how achievable, beneficial and fun a garden can be for people of all ages.
