AUSSIE ALL STARS
a concept by Maxa Design
10 STAR (prefabricated) family home designed for all states and territories
1. Floor Plans
2. Orientation
3. Glazing type and ratio
A simple floor plan suitable for all families
and typical suburban sites throughout the continent.
Certain climatic locations require adjustment to the orientation.
In this example we have rotated the Darwin floorplan 12.5
degrees East to achieve 10 stars.
Select appropriate opening sizes for location and climate.
Select glazing type; double or triple.
Select appropriate glass for u-value and shgc performance.
10 stars for every state Concept Diagrams
8. Construction phase
4. Shading
Rapid and cost effective construction with lower labour costs.
Structure can be completely assembled within days.
A strong secure and long-lasting structure, suitable for all locations.
Select appropriate size, type and materials for shading structures.
7. Prefabrication and delivery
6. Cladding material and colour
5. Insulation
Prefabricate panels off site as per design version.
Precast panels with low CO2 concrete and recycled aggregates.
Incorporate services into panels and deliver to site.
Select preferred cladding material.
Colours grade from light to dark between hottest to coldest zones.
Add appropriate level of insulation for each climatic location.

South elevation - Melbourne glazing configuration with shadows cast at 18:00 on January 1st
1. Only a few small openings are strategically located on the southern facade to allow cross ventilation.
2. Rainwater harvesting tanks are located in the southern courtyard
3. Solar Photovoltaic and hot water arrays located on roof.
Note on external finishes:
The external finish varies according to client taste and
local style requirements, traditions or availability.
Lighter or darker shades are required as per the local climate type.
3.
The drawings show a standing seam metal profile sheeting, but
this could be timber, express joint, fibre cement, corrugated,

render, alucobond or any other external lightweight cladding.
East elevation with shadows cast at 09:30 on the Spring Equinox
1. Overhang provides shelter to entrance
2.
Minimal openings to East and west elevations
3. Multiple cladding options available - see note on external finishes.
North elevation - Melbourne glazing configuration with shadows cast at 11:00 on the Spring Equinox
1. Majority of glazing is located on Northern facade.
2. A pergola framework shades the northern openings and creates cool balconies and covered terraces for dining and entertaining
3. Multiple shading and pergola options are possible according to local climate and owner requirements.
Note on external shading:
External shading is shown as a pergola framework of recycled
railway tracks, but this could also be timber, aluminium etc.
This framework supports shading louvers, acrylic or corrugated roof
sheeting, shade-cloths, vines or any other device to shade interiors.
The extent and type of shading depends on local climate
and owner preferences.
The framework also supports balustrades and privacy screens.
Owners can convert balconies to rooftop gardens etc.
West elevation - Melbourne with shadows at 17:00 on the Autumn Equinox
1. Minimal glazing to West and East facades.
2. The pergola creates shaded balconies and covered terraces. for afternoons and evenings.
3. Cladding colour varies in response to local climate.
