Description
Today, the automated welding processes are based on inflexible mechanical welding fixtures,
which are expensive to set up, it takes a long time to get reliable results and thus quick changeovers between products as well as adaptations to future products without impairing production
are impossible. Furthermore, to answer the market needs today, there is a strong trend towards
“mass customization,” where the manufacturing base is highly flexible, reconfigurable and
efficient. For this, the production and quality inspection activities need to be automated, flexible
and integrated into the design process of the product.
This new technology intends to integrate real time measuring with adaptive robot control and
intelligent CAD models to form an automated welding cell which offers jig-less, flexible and reprogrammable production of welded assemblies with integrated 100% quality control.
This technology can be used in a factory, where welded products need high level of
customisation or are being constantly developed and modified. Results can be applied both in
large companies, where dedicated manufacturing lines can be replaced with more flexible ones
or in a small or medium-sized company where lot sizes are smaller and traditional automation
processes are inefficient.
For the development of the project, existing state of the art technologies are integrated and
developed further to build a prototype. The know-how for the project is already included in the
consortium. However, an SME partner is sought to be a pilot end-user for the technology. The
potential partner would be interested in automation of their arc welding processes, they are
potentially producing components for a high-technology sector such as aerospace, medical or
heavy industry and they are taking advantage of 3D CAD modelling for their products.

The consortium consisting of partners from Estonia, Finland and Sweden, is going for H2020
call: Accelerating the uptake of nanotechnologies, advanced materials or advanced
manufacturing and processing technologies by SMEs (NMP-25-2015-1).
Advantages and Innovations
The technology will allow full automation of the welding manufacturing process and with both
pre-welding optimisation of component positions and welding paths and 100% final quality
control of dimensional features and weld seams, scrap is reduced significantly. By eliminating
the static fixtures from the cell, this manufacturing line is flexible and therefore more efficient.
Improvements planned to 3D CAD models will ultimately make traditional (spreadsheet, 2D
drawing) measurement specifications obsolete.
The benefits of this technology are most pivotal where lot-sizes are small, high quality of the
products is essential and quick change-overs between products are needed. Also, this welding
cell allows continuous development and design changes of the product without extensive down
time.

Partner Sought
Type and Role of Partner Sought
- Type of partner sought: SME active in the manufacturing industry and using arc welding
technologies for the joining of materials (e.g. the company may be a Tier-1 or a Tier-2
component manufacturer for a larger company in the aerospace or medical industry, or in heavy
machinery).
- Tasks to performed by partner sought: The potential partner is ideally interested in starting up
or expanding their use of robotic welding to smaller lot sizes or more frequent changeovers and
generally in more flexible and even jig-less production. The partner might have been barred by
quality or cost concerns or technological limitations from trying similar approaches before.
The partner should be using 3D CAD modelling for their products or have the possibility to do so
for this project.
The sought partner is a pilot end-user of this new technology and will be part of setting the
system up in their facilities and using it in the manufacturing process whereby improving the
transfer of technology into use. The partner will test the introduced technology and assess its
usefulness and added value.
The partner is expected to let one of their existing welding cells be heavily modified to allow the
integration of additional robot(s) and measuring hardware. If the partner does not have
automated welding cells or cannot let one be modified, it is expected that a suitable area in the
partner's facility is reserved for implementing such a cell from the ground up. The duration of the
project will be two years and the partner can expand or opt out of the project after the time
frame. Access to the testing area/cell will be frequently required for implementation and testing
purposes so the possible original use of the cell will be disrupted. A dedicated contact person
and weekly time for feedback and project management will be required.
There will be an official demonstration at the end of the project where the flexibility of the
implemented prototype welding cell is shown by manufacturing multiple different parts on the
same manufacturing cell using two handling robots and a welding robot and a measuring
system. The complexity of the demonstration and the assembled parts can be adjusted
according to the partner's resources and products.

Description
An innovative craft from Croatia with experience in frying food discovered a problem with
outdoor gas burner flame caused by wind as flame kept getting extinguished unwanted.
Currently this problem is not solved and people often improvise with homemade barriers to
protect flame from wind, however, when wind does extinguish fire, the fire has to be started
again manually since there is no restart mechanism in atmospheric outdoor gas burners.
The innovative approach to the problem has resulted in the atmospheric outdoor gas burner
with automatic flame restart feature. This technology uses specially designed and placed
barriers to protect flame from wind, and in case flame does get extinguished it will restart itself
immediately.
Joint venture agreement and license agreement are selected, offering both parties to contribute
in creation of this technology with possible investments from both sides.
Advantages and Innovations
The main advantage of this technology is continuous flame without unwanted extinguishing
caused by the wind. The technology uses specially placed barriers around gas burners and
wind direction and strength does not affect the flame this atmospheric gas burner produce. In
case flame does get put out unwanted, it restarts itself and almost no time is lost. This way it
offers more free time for person operating the. Since people improvise to protect the flame from
wind when outdoors, need for this technology has already been defined.
Furthermore, specially designed barriers prevent the uncontrolled fire from spreading.

Description
In order to add variety in colour, texture or printing applications in shoes manufactured from
natural-synthetic leather or textiles, economies of scale is needed to justify the high fix cost of
the process. Moreover, with the conventional methods applicable colour scale is limited and
often there are resolution problems that cause quality problems in printing. In addition,
conventional methods of applying a visual to a shoe require an intent labour work.
With 30 years of experience in shoes manufacturing, a Turkish company developed a
technology that enables users to operate digital printing and cutting systems in sync. The
process is lean and enables the manufacturers to produce a sample of desired apparel or shoe
with ease and in a cheaper way. The sample product in fact would be exactly the same of the
final product in mass production.
The Turkish company is looking for licensing agreements with the shoe/accessory
manufacturers that are willing to adopt the aforementioned technology in their production lines.
Advantages and Innovations
- Reduces the fix cost of transferring a visual/pattern/texture to an apparel or accessory hence
eliminates the economies of scale condition.
- Greatly increases the quality of the visual transferred to the product.
- Has an error margin of 0.05%.
- With its digital printing feature the process enables complete freedom in the design of the
product.
- Has a lean procedure thus it can be applied easily to any sector.

Description
In recent years, due to the development of alternative energy and other applications of interest
to the ion-exchange materials has increased significantly. The main area of use are
electrodialysis desalination and concentration of electrolyte solutions. Research in membrane
materials and technology are developing rapidly as the worldwide, and in Russia. Membrane
materials Russian laboratory (Krasnodar) specializing in fundamental studies of structure and
properties of membrane materials, developed the technology of ion-exchange membranes
modification with various modifiers. Unique physical and chemical properties of nanocomposite
membrane materials now provide their wide application in membrane electrochemistry, fuel
energy, polymer microelectronics, bioelectrochemistry and processes of selective separation of
solutions components. However, the prospects of using these materials are wider. The
developed technology for producing nanocomposite membranes with improved characteristics
allows producing membranes for specific target applications. The uniqueness of the technology
is that using the same polymer membrane and the same modifying component (polyaniline), but
applying different conditions of modification various nanocomposite materials are prepared.
Such materials can be used:
-as the solid polymer electrolyte in the low-temperature oxygen-hydrogen fuel cell,
-as an optically sensitive material in sensors to determine the pH-environment
-for electro membranous technology of solutions separation and concentration.
Laboratory tests of composites samples based on perfluorinated membranes and polyaniline as
a solid polymer electrolyte in the low-temperature oxygen-hydrogen fuel cell are carried out.
Tests showed that due to higher proton conductivity of the composites the substantial voltage
gain can be obtained, and consequently, power density of the current sources compared to the
use of tusing the same polymer membrane and the same modifying component (polyaniline),
but applying different conditions of modification various nanocomposite materials are prepared.

-for electro membranous technology of solutions separation and concentration.
Laboratory tests of composites samples based on perfluorinated membranes and polyaniline as
a solid polymer electrolyte in the low-temperature oxygen-hydrogen fuel cell are carried out.
Tests showed that due to higher proton conductivity of the composites the substantial voltage
gain can be obtained, and consequently, power density of the current sources compared to the
use of the original membrane. Data increasing of the fuel cell makes 15% - 25% depending on
the conditions of nanocomposite synthesis. As part of the technology the method for preparing
composite membranes with a barrier layer of polyaniline was improved. The test samples
obtained in electrodialyzer, laboratory scale hub showed possibility of significant increase in the
acidic and saline solutions concentrating degree.
Introduction of new composite materials in electromembrane installation for industrial plants
using clean technologies in their aqueous solutions of electrolytes from undesirable impurities or
concentration of salt and acid solutions, will improve the efficiency of such facilities. Membrane
sensor with polyaniline layers applied on an inert perfluorinated matrix may find use as
reversible reagentless indicator for solid acid-base titration, as it changes color from green to
emerald in acidic environment to violet in the alkaline. Received nanocomposite material can be
used as a sensor, both in industry and in research laboratories.
Cooperation is possible within the manufacturing agreement, namely nanocomposite materials
production for the needs of the customer.
Advantages and Innovations
Developed technology allows to produce a line of composites with high competitive advantages:
- The use of composites based on perfluorinated membranes and polyaniline as a solid polymer
electrolyte in the low temperature oxygen-hydrogen fuel cell. This provides a significant gain in
voltage and power density of such current sources on 15% - 25% depending on the conditions
of nanocomposite synthesis;
-nanocomposite MF-4SK / PAn having an anisotropic structure and asymmetrical traffic
characteristics. Solution concentration efficiency increases in the electrodialysis processes and
chlorine-alkaline electrolysis, the degree of saline solutions concentration is increasing on 2540% compared to the original MF-4SK membrane and electrodialysis membrane MK-40,
respectively;
-polyaniline coating on an inert matrix promotes the creation of sensors for the rapid
determination of acidity. The principal feature of this indicator is its rapid reversibility, as it can be
regenerated by acid or basis. This will save valuable, expensive chemical indicators, as well as
to avoid sewage pollution by harmful organic compounds.

Anti-vibration printing cylinder
Summary
A German university has developed a novel method to reduce the vibration of printing cylinders
drastically. Printing cylinders used in conventional printing processes (like offset) are prone to
bending vibrations, which can lead to a significant decrease of the printing quality over time. The
new method solves this problem by redesigning the internal construction of the printing cylinders. A
licensing agreement as well as a technical cooperation agreement is sought.

Description
Within a conventional printing process numerous printing cylinders roll on each other in order to
apply the color. These cylinders are prone to bending vibration, because of the unevenness of
the printed image and the high speed at which the cylinders are spinning. Such bending
vibrations can lead to the cylinders losing contact to one another, resulting in a significant
decrease of the printing quality. Current methods trying to reduce these vibrations generally rely
on supporting elements, which are place on the axis of the cylinder in order to counter and
compensate the vibrations. Alternatively a buffering material is laid between the inner ring and
the cylinder. Yet none of these refinements deliver sustainable results.
The new method developed by engineers of a well-known German university solves this
problem by redesigning the internal construction of the printing cylinders. Casing elements are
arranged within the printing cylinder, pressing against its inner ring. These casing elements are
tightened by either permanent magnets inside the cylinder or by a hydraulic expanding cushion.
The friction then caused by the relative movement between the cylinder and the internal case
counteracts bending vibration, reducing it to a minimum.
Licensing or technical cooperation agreements are being offered.
Advantages and Innovations
By reducing the bending vibrations of the printing cylinders by at least 30% the printing quality of
the machines is significantly increased.

Description
In the weaving industry it is vital to increase production and maintain the quality of woven fabric
so the mill can meet the demands of both national and international quality, familiar to
consumers and markets. Also competitiveness is a key feature of the textile industry. The main
issue is to be able to compete at international levels. It is clear from many international
exhibitions that the competition will be very brutal in the coming years. Nowadays many mills
are able to produce a similar quality of woven fabric, therefore the main issue is the cost of grey
cloth per meter. In order to lower the production costs per meter of woven fabric, yarn
breakages must be reduced at every stage of manufacturing the woven fabric. In the weaving
industry one of the most common problems is breakages of both warp and weft yarns, which not
only reduce the production rate and also reduces the quality of the produced fabric. These
breakages on the preparatory processes and also on looms produce lots of problems and
become labor intensive. The fewer yarn breakages, the fewer the defects. Reducing these
breakages of both warp and weft yarns not only increases the productivity of the processes
(including warping, sizing etc) but also maintains the quality of the woven fabric, reduces
wastages of yarn, reduces energy and ultimately lowers the cost per meter/yard of the prepared
fabric reduces.
The Turkish company develops tailor-made systems to decrease yarn breakages and raise
productivity. The company can help textile companies to develop these systems and offer
ongoing support via commercial agreements with technical assistance.
Advantages and Innovations
Advantages and innovatios are as following:
Since the yarn breakages from the loom are reduced, the cost of production, man power
needed at the loom, wastages of yarn will be reduced and production speed, quality of the fabric
produced, loom efficiency will be increased.

Description
Intro:
Boric acid is used in biocidal products and preservatives, personal care products, additives for
the preservation of food in glass, ceramics, fertilizers and preparations against burning and
other industrial products. Treatment of wood with boric acid reduces its flammability and thus
the possibility of fire in buildings. Impregnation of wood with salts of boric acid is used against
mould, mildew and rot. Boric acid and its salts repel annoying insects and therefore serve as
part of the insecticides.
Boric acid is also used in some nuclear power plants as a neutron poison. The boron in boric
acid reduces the probability of thermal fission by absorbing some thermal neutrons.
The problem:
Some applications might need only very high purity of boric acid solutions or repeatable
cleaning of boric acid solutions.
A Czech research institute with a long-track of records in nuclear research has developed a
technology for removing up to 99 % of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) concentrations from boric
acid solutions, thus increasing its quality.
The offered technology cleans a coolant made of mixture of water and boric acid from Total
Organic Carbon (TOC) content. Such application has been successfully field-tested in nuclear
energy sector. The TOC residues in the nuclear plant coolants are undesirable as they might
cause problems with management of the cooling circuit (mainly piping), despite the fact that
there are currently no official limits on TOC in cooling water. Moreover, the organic substances
deposit on the fuel cells surfaces and thus worsening heat transfer processes and the whole
cooling process.
Known competitive solution:
Ref: TOCZ20150811001
Printed: 01 September 2015
Competitive method currently used in nuclear energy sector for water-based coolant containing
TOC or other non - desired residues is complete exchange of the coolant for the new solution.
Such solution is costly and not ecological as the waste must be treated as nuclear waste.
The solution offered:
The initial stage of the offered technology is based on combination of ultraviolet radiation and
utilization of peroxide - group elements. It has been successfully tested with hydrogen peroxide.
The later stages of the cleaning process are based on activated carbon and special mix-beds to
remove the potential remains of the previously described chemical reaction. The technology is
mobile and usable again at a different facility.
The size and cleaning capacity of the technology is scalable, therefore it could clean from few
litres per hour up to tens of litres per hour.
The applications and partners sought:
The institute is looking for partners interested in application of the above described technology
and adaptation of the offered technology for specific customer´s needs either in nuclear energy
power plants or in other sectors such as food, wood or chemistry based on a technical
cooperation agreement. Furthermore, possible applications not yet tested are e.g. disposal of
antibiotics and hormonal preparations (or drugs in general) in biological wastewater as well as
disposal of organic waste gases.
Cooperation with companies interested in production of the technology either only for its
domestic use (e.g. nuclear energy) or scaling up for other sector as described above based on a
licensing agreement as well as cross-licensing is another cooperation option.
Advantages and Innovations
- Economically-friendly technology due to the fact the cleaning process is easily repeatable so
coolant is cleaned on the spot while current practice completely replaces used coolant with a
new one.
- Ecologically-friendly technology as the boric acid solution is reusable after treatment
- The technology offered is mobile and therefore easily transferable
- Cleaning capability of the offered technology could vary from few litres per hour up to tens of
litres depending on the size of the cleaning device as it is easily scalable. The only limitation
known so far is an electrical supply in the point of installation

Description
A Polish scientist has developed technology of elastomeric shock absorbers that allows for
attenuating the mechanical energy.
The offered absorbers are made of thermoplastic ester elastomers. Thanks to that they can
engulf over 80% of the impact energy at the pressure of 100 tons. Moreover they are resistant
to recurrent impacts and temperatures. The absorbers do not react with oils and there is
possibility to choose their shape.
The offer includes synthesis of thermoplastic esters elastomers (with complex physical and
chemical properties), processing granular elastomers by injection and extrusion methods (for
shock-absorbing elements in specific shapes and weight). The third part of the offered
technology is the design of shock-absorbing systems and linking them with produced
elastomeric elements.
The shock absorbers deaden mechanical energy deriving from high force impacts. They can be
used as vibro-isolators under heavy machinery to reduce the transmission of vibration on the
ground and machinery housing and to cut down vibration of the machine working-parts.
The technology is ready for implementation but it requires industrial tests. The installation cost
(without buildings) is about 1 million Euros. The installation allows for easy changing of the
assortment in the similar series of products. The scientist is ready to supervise the installation
commissioning.
The offered technology can be useful in the industry especially in machines and production lines
manufacturing. Cooperation in a form of commercial agreement with technical assistance is
offered.

Description
An Austrian SME active in the area of design has developed a new hand-operated striking tool,
used to split wood briquettes. It mainly consists of a heavy, insulated cast-iron handle with an
attached blade and is meant for easier handling of customary Wood briquettes, used in all kinds
of household fireplaces.
Axes and wedges are inappropriate tools for the clean and easy chopping of wood briquettes.
They are slow, inaccurate, dangerous and tend to produce a lot of strand waste.
This new innovation addresses these shortcomings:
The splitting process is very comfortable because the impact cames from the cast-iron handles
own weight (approximately 800g), making the work easier for the user.
With an enormous amount of precision and speed, perfectly segmented briquettes are created
using the tool. The strand waste stays in the container and can be easily disposed of in the
fireplaces.
In the past, the obligatory waste caused by the splitting process required the splitting to take
place either outdoors or in the basement. The combination of the tool and the patented
container makes the process clean, efficient and suitable for indoor usage.

waste.
The new tool allows for a very comfortable splitting process as the impact comes from the castiron handles own weight (approximately 800g), allowing easier handling. With high precision
and speed, perfectly segmented briquettes are created by using the tool. The strand waste
stays in the container and can be easily disposed of in the fireplace. The tool‘s design fulfills
criteria of function, ergonomy, aesthetics and economy, as well as ecology and sustainability.
The new developed tool can be used for all fireplaces of all kinds. The new product is
remarkable due to its low production costs (steel price) and its unique selling point - the set can
be offered for a cash and carry price of only 19,95€. The dimensions of the prototype are
compact with length: 17cm, external diameter: 5cm, weight: 850g.

Technique/solution to measure laundry powder density
in order to avoid overpack
Summary
A Belgian multinational active in consumer goods looks for technical solutions allowing the on line
measurement of laundry powder density which will avoid losses of laundry/washing powder due to
overpack. Technical cooperation is sought with industrial players either having an off-the-shell
solution or who are keen to co-develop a customised solution.

Description
A Belgian multinational based in Brussels and active in consumer goods wishes to make its
control process for the laundry powder more efficient and effective since today it leads to losses
of laundry/washing powder due to overpack.
This company has 1 ½ century of history in the fast moving and consumer goods markets and
owns several brands known at global level.
The issue this company intends to tackle now is the identification of a technique allowing a more
effective and reliable density measurement for washing powder, having a specific density range.
Currently, the laundry powder is dosed into the pack using volumetric dosers. The weight of
powder dosed is measured on the packed product by a check weigher; a control loop adjusts
the amount dosed, based on calculated density. This type of feedback with a control loop leads
to losses of laundry powder due to overpack.
The company would like to reduce this drawback by having a feedforward type of control loop
instead, enabled by on line density gauge before the volumetric dosing (e.g. at the hopper).
With such a purpose of process improvement stated, the company is looking for collaboration
with potential partners having expertise in the accuracy of density measurement that can be
applied to washing powder.
The ideal partners either have an off-the-shelf type of solution (eg tech. transfer from similar
application) or are keen to co-develop a customised solution since they have the required
knowledge and equipment.

Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
The company looks for a compact, low cost measurement technique for powder density in the
hopper which has to be as well an easily installable solution.
The accuracy of the density measurement needs to be <+/-10%.
The powder is:
- non explosive,
- density of 450-1000g/l,
- MPS (Mean Particle Size) of 500-600µm, with 1-3% moisture level. (µm is the unit of particles)
The device will need to operate in a dusty environment and parts of the equipment may be in
contact with the powder.
Ideally the measure can be done in a non-invasive manner, without being in contact with the
powder itself.
In terms of density measurement, possible candidate solutions include:
• X-Ray
• Magnetic
• Ultrasonic
• Optical Transmission
• Capacitance
• Microwave
• Radiations
This company is looking either for an off-the-shelf solution or is open to accept a timeframe for
development to proof of concept of maximum 6 months, with regular reviews and decision
points to be agreed upfront, based on learning plan milestones.
The company is already aware of some applications using Gamma radiation technology but
safety validation remains a challenge. They need a technology that is designed and proofed to
operate in a safe manner.
The company is NOT interested in:
Any kind of technical solution which is NOT low cost and compact.
With the above-mentioned purpose and technical requirements in mind, the company looks for
technical agreement with potential partners having an off-the-shell solution that can be easily
applied to the washing powder, allowig thus a technological transfer from similar application or
open to co-development of a customised solution.
These kinds of partners are expected to collaborate in the long term for further potential needs
requiring similar adaptation.

Description
Being in the knitwear garment industry for many years had long been a nightmare to overcome
the problem of recovering wasted yarns to fit industry's needs.
Most of the time it may be very difficult to avoid the spoilt production due to many reasons, such
as kind of yarn, kind of pattern, kind of machine used and most importantly skill of the knitting
machine operator. Over the previous years many mechanisms had been tried and have still
been rarely satisfactory to recover, but only small percentage of the fabric types. Seeing the
piles of faulty knitted, wasted, spoilt, rejected fabrics during the production a Turkish company
developed an unraveling machine which would serve its purpose for the knitting industry on a
full range of yarns used.
The machine has become more critical as higher quality, finer and more expensive yarns have
been employed, particularly with the current trend to finer gauges and often finer count and
more delicate yarns.
The machine handles bulky yarns on the one hand while being directly applicable to weak
delicate and expensive yarns such as Cashmere, as well as Lambswool, Shetland, Angora,
Merino, Acrylic, Cotton Alpaca, Chenille, Boucle, Modal, Polyamide and Polyester.
Fabric types unraveled by the system include single and double jersey, Milan Rib, cable, lace,
intarsia, shaped and internal garments, jacquard, rib, links, tuck and plated patterns etc.
Multi-count yarn can also be unraveled by separating the plies as well as should be possible to
unravel them together, even if there are some tension or length differences among the plies.
The system can be used by any operator, easy to use, intelligent to understand the type of
unraveling to be applied automatically, and does not evade any yarn dust in the manufacturing
area.
The company is interested in cooperation with companies active in knitted textiles sector,
especially the companies working with valuable fibers and offers system development according
to the needs of the companies, establishment of the system and giving after services. The

Description
A technology offered has been developed at the department of the Czech university, which has
a long track of record in textile innovations.
Self-supporting lower windings are windings especially designed for lock-stitch sewing machine.
At present there are neither commercially available any technologies for the manufacture of selfsupporting lower windings. There is also a demand from the textile industry for utilizing selfsupporting lower windings on older textile machines.
In comparison with direct competition, the offered technology of self-supporting lower windings
differs by the absence of a supporting flanged tube. For utilizing self-supporting lower windings
in sewing machines a new type of looper is available on the market, where the lower windings
does not rotate and the thread is unwound from the centre of the package. This eliminates the
inertial dynamic effects of the windings during stops and run-ups in the sewing process.
This technology has been tested on a newly developed machine, enabling to manufacture up to
10 lower windings simultaneously. The achieved characteristics of the manufactured lower
windings considerably increase the quality and productivity of the sewing process.
Researchers are looking for partners interested in licensing the invention under a license
agreement and start production of the offered technology.
Advantages and Innovations
- Increased productivity and quality of the sewing process of lock-stitch sewing machines
- The self-supporting lower windings contain at least double the length of wound thread
compared to a traditional flanged package of the same dimensions. This allows double the
Ref: TOCZ20150316003

sewing time without the need to exchange the package and provides a reduction in downtimes
during the sewing process to as little as one half
- The self-supporting lower windings have a precisely defined length of wound yarn with the
prescribed tolerance and it is possible to gain an advantage by programming the stop of the
sewing machine with a bid to replace the depleted lower package, e. g. at the end of a seam.
Therefore, the defined length of the thread in the package permits the rest of the thread in the
lower winding to be minimised by choosing the optimum length of seam
- Using new type of looper the self-supporting lower windings do not rotate during the sewing
process. That means that the thread is unwound from the centre of the package, which
considerably reduces thread breaks when starting and stopping the sewing machine. This
brings increasing the quality and productivity of the sewing process
- The offered technology allows as many as 10 self-supporting lower windings to be
manufactured simultaneously on the new machine, which increases the efficiency of their
manufacture and lowers their price
- The technology utilizes precise cross winding, which permits individual winds to be laid close
to each other at a prescribed constant distance in every wound layer of the package. This
distance can be chosen in such a way that the winds may be laid close to each other

Description
A machine developed by the researchers from the Czech university is intended mainly for
manufacturing of specialized multilayer - folded 3D fabrics. Such fabrics might be used for
producing filters especially for filtering gases and liquids. The unique machine enables
production of special products to filter air, water and oil and is in comparison with competitive
technologies characterized by higher absorption and therefore higher efficiency. Multiple filter
layers also enable control and setting of the filtration process.
In comparison with machines produced by the competitors, the design of the machine allows to
insert several different materials such as textile, paper, film (including nanolayers), which leads
to gradual layers´ fixation and creation of 3D structure made of these materials. The
manufacturing process also allows to add layers containing various powders, including
nanopowders.
Products can be manufactured from two or more layers in a single process step. The inner layer
may be e.g. plastic foil, aluminium foil, layer of nanofibres etc. In addition, it is possible to
reinforce the surface of the product, again, in a single process step.
Principle of technology lies in the vertical stacking of the incoming semi-product (nonwoven
textile) and subsequent fixation of the structure. Fixation of the structure is mechanical with
possibility to be combined with heat.
As an incoming semi-product (nonwoven textile) can be used, e.g., heat-bonded nonwoven
fabrics, needle punched nonwovens (classic and water-jet), weaving nonwovens (containing
fleece), spun-bond with a low degree of calendering.
Technical applications of the output products are in the areas of acoustic insulation in the
automotive, filtration media and special filters, absorbent cores, seals, vibration control, carpet
pads, gaskets etc.

The university offers a licence for manufacturing the machine based on the licensing agreement
as the university is not a manufacturer. The university is also looking for partners interested in
further development of the machine in order to develop applications in nanofiber, filtration and/or
sorbents (application prevent bio-contamination etc.) based on technical cooperation
agreement.
Advantages and Innovations
Innovations:
The novelty of the machine and its key advantage is in the creation of 3D-folded product, which
is suitable for further processing into filters with enhanced capacity and durability. Such principle
is not yet used by the competitors and is characterized by higher production efficiency and low
operating costs. Some types of filters have been already tested in accredited laboratories but
the composition of the filter (various filter layers) needs to be adapted for to specific filtration
requirements according to the results of other tests.
The end product from the machine can be a filter having favourable value between volume and
sorption surface mainly due to the 3D-fabric characteristics such as higher capture efficiency of
particles, less fouling and hence longer service - life. Additionally, the machine can be set up in
a way that the filter can be composed of different layers, thus the filter may have different
parameters for different types of filtration.
Advantages:
- Small build-up floor space
- Production speed is up to 10 m / min
- Product thickness: 4 -7 mm
- Product weight: 300 to 800 g/m2

Description
Fiber reinforced plastics are the basis for numerous light weight applications. They are
composed of a polymer matrix, which strengthens the fibers. Glass fibers are used as a
reinforcement structure in 95 % of all fiber reinforced plastics. A glass fiber sizing is used to
ensure the adhesion of the matrix to the fiber in order to transfer the reinforcement effect of the
fiber to the material or to lower the friction resistance. However, conventional sizings require an
individual adjustment of the sizing to the matrix system which is time and cost consuming.
Moreover, often unsuitable fiber-sizing-matrix combinations are used.
The German research institute has developed a multifunctional, bioinspired sizing system which
permits the use of different thermoplastic matrices. The developed technology is scalable and
based upon high molecular, tailormade sizings with the integration of cathechol groups.
Catechols and functional polmers linked to catechol units replace monomer aminosilanes. The
concept is inspired by a natural technique used by mussels which use catechols in their marine
habitat to immobilize different types of materials, among others also for oxydic surfaces like in
glass fibers. Catechols are marked by their high bond strength and their improved adhesion
capability in wet conditions (for instance to thermoplastics of carbon fibers).
Research results include the creation of a spinning facility for glass fibers, the synthesis of new
bioinspired sizings with an improved grip and an identification of their tribological characteristics,
the successful use of sizings in the spinning process and the manufacture of a textile surface
which are turned into glas fiber reinforced components.
The German research institute is looking for industrial partners from sectors using leightweight
structures for technical cooperation agreements. The developed technology can be applied in
sectors such as automotive, space or others. Also academic partners with experience in
adhesion technology or surface treatment are welcome for technological agreements to further
improve the technology.

Description
A German research institute, active in textile engineering, has developed a process including a
pilot plant for demonstration.
The increasing use of carbon fibre materials, e.g. in airplane and automotive engineering,
requires automated manufacturing solutions. The currently common prepreg solutions are
expensive and not suitable for large scale production.
The new process including the developed plant technology allows manufacturing a rolled
unidirectional tape of dry carbon fibres. The fibre spreading is realised in one to two planes. The
tapes can also be made of different materials with different weights per unit area.
Thereby the homogeneous fibre tape consists of a large number of single tapes without
transverse cohesion between them.
The development enables the improvement of processing of carbon fibres for composites. The
unidirectional materials are suitable for use in various applications, they facilitate the production
of new non-crimp fabrics on multiaxial machines/multiaxial multiply fabrics in a better quality as
well as with higher productivity.
Main fields of application of the final product are:
- shipbuilding
- Compressed gas tanks
- Construction and building products
- Wind turbines
- Aircraft constructions
- Automotive
- Sporting goods

The institute is interested in a license agreement and/or a technical cooperation agreement.
Advantages and Innovations
This technology allows improving the processing of carbon fibres for composites significantly.
Thus, it is an efficient alternative to the existing prepreg solutions.
The UD fabrics can be used for thermoplastic and thermoset fibre composites for light-weight
applications. Compared to conventional prepregs, there is a shortened process chain. Thus, the
process becomes faster and more cost-effective. The storage of the material is not limited in
time and does not depend on cold storage cells. Compared to woven fabrics, the UDs offer a
maximum material performance caused by the stretched fibre arrangement. The material is gapfree and has an uniform weight per unit area over the entire material width.
The UD fabrics offer a great flexibility concerning the structure of the fibre composite. Special
functions can be integrated. The cycle times for the production of the components can be
shortened.

Description
This international manufacturer - with a European headquarters in Austria - has significant
experience and competence in the integration of technical systems.
A current project includes the development of a product, which is intended to improve the
personal comfort of an individual through the regulation of temperature. The company is
examining conductive sheets which provide flexibility and which can transfer heat/cold quickly. A
suitable material for the manufacture of these sheets is sought. While flexibility of the material is
an important factor, it must also be durable and hard-wearing. If a material can be found, which
can provide the required heat transfer properties, the durability could be addressed as part of a
joint project. Current industry solutions do not provide sufficient heat transfer in the required
time. The manufacturer's aim is to find a suitable technology to be employed in consumer
products, improving their performance and opening up new market opportunities.
The manufacturer is looking for solutions which are of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3 or
above, i.e. solutions which have already passed the proof of concept. The company's main
focus is on finding a perfect match in terms of the technology. They are open to cooperating with
partners in developing a suitable solution or in purchasing the licence for an existing solution. In
addition, a financial agreement is also possible. If the technical fit is right, the company would
also be willing to discuss other forms of cooperation. All kinds of partners will be considered.

Hydrophobic coating onto a natural and compostable
fabric, without effects on compostability
Summary
A Swiss company has launched its first compostable clothing line. In order to achieve compostability
for a piece of clothing, the guidelines for design and production are very strict. As a consequence of
this the product development and production process leaves little to no alternatives for features like
water repellency. The company is looking for partners who have the know-how for this kind of
coating respecting their criteria. Commercial, technical or research agreements could be possible.

Description
A Swiss company recently launched its first compostable clothing line with t-shirts, pants and
shirts. In order to achieve compostability for a piece of clothing, the guidelines for design and
production had and have to be very strict. This consequence during the whole product
development and production process leaves little to no alternatives for certain features, such as
water repellency.
They are now looking for know-how or technologies to achieve water repellency by means of a
hydrophobic coating. The technology or know-how to apply should not compromise on the
compostability of the clothes.
The existing clothing line has following characteristics:
Grown in Europe
The fabric is made from bast and modal fibres grown in Europe. Producing these native fibres
protects the soil and requires much less water than cotton which is easier to process.
Other fibres fitting the same criteria (low footprint, European, biodegradable) would be possible.
Short transport routes
Compared to common textiles, the path from fibre to product is a short trip. The various
production steps for the fabric take place at a distance of maximum 2’500 kilometers (1’600
miles) from Zurich.
Not toxic
While flax and hemp cultivation requires almost no pesticides, they also use as few chemicals
as possible when further processing bast fibres. The company avoids bleaching altogether. This
means that the fabric may also be recommended for babies and infants without any restrictions.
This is the conclusion reached by Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 (product class I), an independent

control and certification system.
Factory proof
Fabrics and garments have to be long-lasting and sturdy. The Swiss company uses it as
workwear in the factory and also at the bar after work. The employees subjected all fabrics and
products to strict testing, also taking style into account.
For the compost
The fabric satisfies the toughest factory requirements and yet is 100 % biodegradable in
compost within just a few months.
Background of the company
The company is design driven and a pioneer in its area. Several products of their other product
line are exposed in well-known museum collections. Products can be purchased world-wide.
Cooperation
The company is looking for partners or research partners who have either the know-how to
achieve water-repellent properties of clothes or are willing to develop it together with the
company respectively with the fabric producing company.
Every effect a solution has on the water resistance of a fabric is interesting for the Swiss
company.
The company believes that the solution could come from the textile sector but more likely from
other industries like e.g. the furniture industry.
Following cooperation types might be considered:
- Commercial agreement with technical assistance: with a partner that offers the suitable
solution
- Technical cooperation agreement: with a partner who has a solution which has to be adapted
to the requirements of the Swiss company
- Research cooperation agreement: with a research partner to develop the solution as no
existing solution is available
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
Beside the characteristics of the existing clothing line the following criteria has to be fulfilled:
- The end result has to dissolve completely in an ordinary compost within a few months. =
Cradle to Cradle approach
- If possible, the solution should be vegan
- The solution has to be applicable on natural fabric made of flax, hemp and modal
- It should be possible that the coating can be applied in Europe
Regarding the water repellency
- Breathability of the fabric: optional
- The solution might be applied during the finishing process of the fabric or might be renewed
during some time of use

H2020 NMP-25-2015-1: SME sought for a flexible and reprogrammable automated manufacturing cell for arc
welding processes suitable for manufacturing products
in large and small lot sizes
Summary
An international team is developing an advanced manufacturing technology which will allow arc
welding processes to be fully automated, including 100% in-line quality control while keeping the
manufacturing base highly flexible, reconfigurable and efficient. An SME end-user is sought active in
manufacturing industry, interested in the automation of their arc welding processes. The partner will

Description
The Estonian company is operating in the field of electronics, information and communication
technologies. It has been a coordiator or a partner of several European Union Framework
Programme projects and owns a considerable patent portfolio. The company’s technologies
have been applied in new smart systems and products in health care, food production and
public infrastructure. They currently employ 60 researchers and engineers and work closely in
cooperation with many universities.
Impedance spectroscopy is a versatile tool for examining the properties of different materials
and objects, e.g. metal alloys, chemicals, electrochemical cells. The technology has become an
important tool for investigating the properties and quality of solar cell devices and biological
organisms.
The company is offering a signal processing method for real-time measurement and
identification of complex impedances in a wide frequency range. It is used for designing
measurement instruments for performing fast impedance spectroscopy of dynamic objects.
Up until recently all available instruments have been expensive, energy hungry, bulky and
relatively slow. The offered technology is so far one of the most promising new advancements in
this area. It is offering a compact alternative to large devices that is able to integrate into
different measurement units depending on the required configuration.
The company is interested in co-operating with industrial companies, R&D institutions and
universities and the types of partnerships considered are commercial agreements with technical
assistance, license agreements and research cooperation agreements. The company is
interested in research cooperation to validate the use of the technology in different application

areas. The outcome would be also to adjust the product to the specific needs of different
application and local user to facilitate technology transfer through this process. Moreover, the
outcome of offering technical configuration services and licensing to companies/partners
interested in applying the impedance technology is to get a more systematic understanding of
how the technology works in different applications and contexts.
Advantages and Innovations
The offered technology has several advantages over other measurement technologies. It is
applicable to multiple measurement objects and materials due to the easily adaptable
excitations signals used in the process. The technology applies a short wideband multifrequency excitation signal to the object under testing. Generally, many different excitation
signals can be used for system identification in a wide frequency range. These include
sinusoids, sums of sinusoids for simultaneous multi-frequency measurement or spectroscopy,
shorter or longer sweeps and chirps, as well as different square wave signals. The final choice
over which excitation signals to use is generally a compromise between conflicting
requirements, such as the available hardware and the measurement task at hand.
It has a more qualitative signal to noise ratio during measurement while being energetically
superior to other technologies. The technology enables to generate a selected excitation signal
waveform digitally in a very short timeframe, while concentrating the excitation energy onto
certain frequency components of interest. These optimal waveforms help to maximize the ratio
of the Root-Mean-Square value (RMS-value) of the signal to the peak value of it. It is relatively
straightforward to adapt the excitation signal to the object under measurement, which in turn
enables to easily maximize its response signal. Due to the optimal design of the excitation
signal, the spectrum of the binary waveform excitation can cover several frequency decades.
Another important advantage is the speed of the company’s impedance spectroscopy. The
wideband multi-frequency binary excitation signal is easy to generate compared with spectrally
similar multi-sinusoids. This enables to cut costs on hard- and software engineering as well as
the end product.

Description
A Spanish optical research group presents a novel concept to measure states of polarization
based on the mapping that conical refraction (CR) phenomenon produces between the
polarization of the input beam and the transverse intensity distribution along the light ring of the
output beam.
This concept is materialized into the design of a new division of amplitude polarimeter based on
two biaxial crystals.
By using this alternative, not only the benefits of amplitude division polarimeters are present but
also, just one amplitude division is needed to implement a complete polarimeter. We are able to
distinguish each state of polarization, including unpolarized light beams.
The polarimeter is complete since the PAs (Polarizing Analyzers) represented upon the sphere
are enclosing a certain volume.
Quality indicators used: Condition Number (CN), Equally Weighted Variance (EWV).
The CN calculated for our PAs arrangement is equal to 2.00, value very close to the theoretical
minimum 1.73 for polarimeters.
Unlike CN , the EWV indicator is able to account for the benefits of data redundancy. As the
design of the CR polarimeter proposed includes a CCD camera, it is able to instantaneously
increase the data redundancy in the system just by increasing the number of PAs selected at
the ring distribution, being this number only limited by the pixel geometry. In contrast to other
polarimeter architectures, this appealing feature of the CR polarimeter allows us to
instantaneously decrease, to certain extent, and without an increase of the measuring-time, the
final Stokes variances, being the EWV a useful indicator to show such enhancement.
Companies of different sectors such as optical, chemistry, pharma, materials characterization for
manufacturing and/or development (via license agreement) are sought in order to implement
this technology in their equipment or even develop a new ones.

Pull-off apparatus - a device measuring pull-off strength
in the branch of surface working
Summary
A small Czech company has developed apparatus that can measure very small differences of pull-off
strength. The device is used for inspection of the quality of surface materials - determinates both
their solidity and their quality. The device enables to find out defects of the material before serious
damages incur. Final users of this apparatus are sought from industry to use the apparatus based on
commercial agreement with technical assistance.

Description
Pull-off test shows the real adhesion of 2 or more layers and also shows the quality of the base
before a final surface working process.
The device is able to measure efficiency of the fastening of the thermal insulation layer on the
brickwork. Another possible test is a test of quality of fastening of a steel anchor in the contrete
groundwork.
The device is able to measure either a tensile strength at a right angle to the surface that pull-off
both layers or a power necessary for breaking of a certain part of the system including a base
defined by the hole. The test can therefore determine those properties of the system in depth
given by the hole made in advance.
Final users of this apparatus are sought from industry to apply the apparatus based on
commercial agreement with technical assistance. The technical assistance will be essential for
customers who have no experience with the usage of such device.
Advantages and Innovations
Products have mostly protective or aesthetic surface treatments. When the upper layer is
damaged it can cause costs for repair or problems. Pull-off test can prevent the producer or
user from these problems. There are only 5 producers of such device all over the world, but only
2 in Europe. Significant advantage will be the price in this case. This apparatus is used for
measuring at a right angle to the surface and the advantage is also a punctuality of the device.
The device can control the quality of surface and the surface working. A mutual adhesion of
applied layers can be determined. Technical assistance for new users (explanaition and training)
will be applied in the framework of the commercial agreement.

Description
Analysis of sound and acoustics plays a role in such engineering tasks as product design,
production test, machine performance, and process control. For instance, product design can
require modification of sound level or noise for compliance with standards from American
National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Organisationf for Standardisation (ISO).
The work might also involve design fine-tuning to meet market expectations. Examples include
tweaking an automobile door latching mechanism to impress a consumer with a satisfying click
or modifying an exhaust manifold to change the tone of an engine's rumble. Aircraft designers
are also using acoustic instrumentation to reduce the noise generated on takeoff and landing.
The Turkish company developed an acoustic material testing system, so called impedance /
sound transmission loss tubes. This system is widely used in areas of testing of acoustic
insulation materials, acoustic silencers and mufflers etc. The testing system is based on ASTM
and ISO standards and depending on the physical quantity aimed to be measured the system
configuration changes can be made on hardware and software. By using the system, one can
determine the absorption and transmission characteristics of their material or system.
The Turkish company is looking for partners for technical cooperation in order to expand the
capabilities of their system.

Description
The Belgian company does not just manufacture custom-made highly effective isolation,
damping or cancelling systems, but also promptly provides experienced support for vibration
diagnosis, requirement specifications, and commissioning.
Vibrations play a critical role in machine limitations, starting from the conventional limitations of
machine performances (e.g. printing resolution) and machine reliability (fatigue and wear), to
more sophisticated phenomenoms like chatter (machine tool instability) or control-flexibility
interaction. There are mainly three available methods, each of them being implemented by
either active or passive means. Vibration isolation, vibration damping and anti-noise.
Vibration isolation prevents perturbations from reaching the sensitive payload (f.i. car
suspension).
Structural damping avoids perturbations being amplified by structural resonances.
Active damping systems are closed-loop devices, relying on actuators, sensors and a feedback
control algorithm.
Anti-noise consists in cancelling the vibration by generating a force opposite to the incoming
perturbation. Whenever the sensitive area cannot be isolated from the vibration excitation forces
and whenever the vibrations are not amplified by the mechanical structure but mainly
transmitted, the only remaining method to reduce the vibration (without a complete re-design of
the system) is the anti-noise where a force opposite to the vibration excitation (same frequency,
same amplitude but opposite phase) is generated resulting in a destructive interference
process. Active anti-noise systems are open-loop devices, relying on actuators, sensors and a
feedforward control algorithm.
Passive anti-vibration systems, both damping and anti-noise, are often based on Tuned Mass

Absorbers or TMA, where an oscillating spring-mass system is mounted on the target structure,
i.e. at the location where the vibration is to be cancelled out. This TMA will absorb the vibration
energy in a frequency band around its own resonance/tuning frequency. Thus, around that given
frequency, the vibration energy is transferred into the TMA but not damped.
Vibration reduction requires dedicated mechanical design and expert knowledge of the problem
and its possible and compatible solutions. For example, TMA technology is well suited to
address acoustic tonality issues (wind turbine gearbox, compressor...) where the vibration
energy is transferred in a secondary device whose acoustics emission is drastically reduced.
The Belgian company is interested in finding partners facing vibration problems in their specific
area of activity and for which its expertise for developing new solutions would be of interest.
Collaboration could be envisaged under the form of services agreements.
Advantages and Innovations
While vibration reduction technology has been well known for years and conceptually seems
‘simple’, each implementation requires specific attention.
The company’s knowhow is essential in the process: Aspects such as added weight, tuning
frequency, available space, environmental factors, and manufacturing costs are taken into
account. Particularly the mechanical interface design is of primary importance. Poor interface
design can drastically reduce the absorption performances. Sometimes the situation may even
be worse than before! Due to its extensive (space) expertise solutions are provided in short time
frames.
The technology provided by this company has the advantage of being compact; non-intrusive
(no structural modification is needed); additive (the more you attach to the structure or machine,
the more damping you get); needing no external mechanical connections and have a wide
operating bandwidth.

Description
The current receiver mock-up can be made available for testing in the desired applications and
its integration in the end-user platform requires simple physical mounting, an Ethernet port, an
antenna and power supply.
The company has developing this Galileo user receiver prototype as a result of European and
national R&D projects.
The company is open to set up technology licensing agreements with end users and system
integrators (Original Equipment Manufacturers and Value Added Resellers) willing to take
advantage of early access to its technology for new applications and is also looking for joint
venture agreements with industrial partners and financial agreements with potential investors.
Advantages and Innovations
The receiver uses the Galileo E5 signal Alternative BOC (AltBOC) modulation, offering ultra-low
noise and multipath robust code observables (versus carrier phase observables, prone to
discontinuities - cycle-slips - especially in urban environments).
Urban environments have rich GNSS reflected signals from buildings, trees, bridges and other
objects multipath) which can contaminate code and carrier observables requiring the use of
additional sensors, increasing costs and complexity. For surveying applications, existing high
accuracy real time kinematic receivers rely on carrier phase measurements, which under harsh
environments can be a major difficulty due to cycle-slips.
If real-time (RT) navigation is desired, the solution may involve expensive bulky high grade
inertial sensors, ultra-sonic sensors, cameras or barometers. Otherwise, the solution involves
Ref: TOPT20150601001

post-processing techniques for smoothing navigation outputs.
These RT and non-RT solutions are suboptimal because:
- Unmanned aerial vehicles need to be cheap and light to operate in urban environments and
with RT requirements. For infrastructure inspections using UAV (power lines, windpower
generator rotor blades, etc.) we need to fly close to the monitored object;
- Even if RT capability is not required, existing GPS receiver manufacturers do not recommend
the use of high precision GPS in urban environments or close to trees, thus the use of high
quality inertial sensors for post-processing.
-The navigation algorithms will use code measurements of the dual frequency receiver and
extract the ionosphere effects using an innovative concept using the low noise properties of E5
AltBOC and combined with the with E1 Molecular Biology of the Cell signal to estimate the
ionospheric delay. Such combination preserves the low noise properties of E5 AltBOC for use in
the navigation solution and uses precise or broadcast RT orbits and clocks allows a RT high
accuracy and robust positioning (7cm - 14 cm).

Intelligent fault alarm system (IFAS)
Summary
Portuguese research institution developed an intelligent fault alarm system - software
implementation of a monitoring and early warning system. It is a highly flexible mechanism that can
be easily adapted and has the capability of dealing with imprecision, allowing the system to issue
levels of warnings. It extracts data from sensors and semi-automatically transforms and represents it
as linguistic variables. The institution intends to establish a commercial agreement with technical
assistance.

Description
Rule-based systems have been successfully applied in many different fault detection and
monitoring technical processes. However, most of these applications are related with decision
making (automatic control processes) and not with decision support (human control processes).
Further, there is not much work devoted to the application of specialized fuzzy inference
concepts and tools to assist human operators in the task of control processes.
The Portuguese research institution developed an intelligent fault alarm system to monitor faulty
behaviors during a drilling process and that includes an inference system for terrain hardness
detection, both of which are based on fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic has the advantage of capturing
rules expressed as natural language in a very straightforward manner. It also provides a high
degree of flexibility, which allows the system to issue levels of warnings before an error actually
occurs (early warning).
The main objective of the fault detection system is to provide a solution for detecting deviations
from nominal values in components or processes which are based on automatic sensor data
acquisition.
IFAS has been tested in aerospace applications such as ExoMars over drilling system and
gyroscopes degradation in European Space Agency (ESA) satellites.
A system like this can be applied whenever there are sensors that extract data, which include
some sort of imprecision, that should be measured to detect deviations from nominal values at
an early stage, i.e., before any critical problem occurs. This also applies to any equipment that
needs monitoring and early fault detection alarms. Potential application areas include energy
systems, industrial assembly lines, smart buildings, medical and health, drilling instrumentation,
etc.
The Portuguese institution is looking to establish a commercial agreement with technical

assistance with industrial partners in order to establish a long term commitment with the future
intention to define new products that could integrate the specifications and modules of the
mechanism developed.
The Portuguese institution aims to contributing to the advancement of science and technology.
Advantages and Innovations
The novelty of this approach is the combination of a learning module that extracts data from
sensors, transforms and represents it as linguistic variables, with a flexible reasoning process
that can detect deviations from nominal behaviors and provide alarms ranging from low
deviation (green) to critical alarm (red). Moreover, the alarm tool interface is designed as a userfriendly decision support tool.
Another innovation of this approach is the flexible monitoring mechanism, which allows
reasoning about deviations, and detect at an early stage any problem encountered in the data
being extracted (providing early warning capabilities).
This technology / methodology can be quite easily exploited in other domains (other than
space), in areas requiring a continuous monitoring of sensor data, and where having an early
warning system can provide an added benefit in preventing negative impact on safety or
performance. Further, this system can aid human controllers in monitoring and assessing
situation where multiple sensors provide continuous streams of data, or where there exist a
large amount of different sensors.

Description
Bulk goods are often stored and transported in large, unpacked quantities. For example edible
goods like soy and cocoa and energy sources like coal and wood pellets. Handling these goods
in bulk is a growing industrial activity, with product self combustion as a major risk. If the product
is not properly monitored, self-combustion can lead to product deterioration, fire damages and
even environmental disasters, resulting in enormous costs.
This Dutch SME offers a technology for monitoring of the condition of bulk storage without IT
infrastructure. It is a solution to continuously monitor the condition of all storage from a central
office location, and, in case of a critical situation, sometimes even from home. The monitoring
infrastructure can be easily changed from existing to new locations.
Product Quality Preservation
A properly deployed monitoring solution helps preserving product quality and decreases the
cost of insurance premiums. It is a great challenge, but at the same time of the utmost
importance, to be able to detect combustion spots in large dry bulk storage piles. Choosing the
optimal monitoring solution heavily
depends on product and storage facility characteristics, and ranges from in-product temperature
monitoring to environmental gas composition measurements:
•Wireless temperature measurements can be achieved using the company's wireless
temperature probes for along-heap measurements, and wireless temperature tubes
for permanent, in-product measurements.
•Measuring relative humidity of the ambient environment provides information on the risk of
chemical reaction in the product causing self-combustion. This allows detecting if the product is
stored in too humid an environment. This can easily
Ref: TONL20150408002
Printed: 01 September 2015
be achieved by placing the wireless RH sensors at regular positions in the storage facility.
•Measuring gas concentrations can provide a clear picture on product combustion. Depending
on the product type, self-combustion causes the emission of, among others, Carbon Monoxide
(CO), Hydrogen (H2), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Methane (CH4). To that end, robust wireless
sensors for monitoring these and various other combustion-related gases have been included in
there comprehensive set of.
Choosing the optimal monitoring solutions heavily depends on product characteristics and
storage facility, and ranges from in-product temperature monitoring to environmental gas
composition measurements. Therefore the company offers tailormade solutions. The company
is looking for commercial agreements with technical assistance and/or technical cooperation
agreements.
.
Advantages and Innovations
The wireless, dynamic, modular architecture of the technology enables flexible installation and
re-installation of monitoring of any size, at any location in the world, as often as required. In
addition, the dynamic reader network infrastructure and the possibility to connect it to the
Internet via GPRS or Ethernet turns it into the flexible monitoring solution that professional bulk
storage companies require. The companýs solution stands out in the market because of it's
robustness, extremely low in energy and the reliability of it's wireless connections.
Other advantages:
- Continuous monitoring
- Real time alarming and intervention
- Non-disruptive commissioning
- Monitoring of remote, unmanned locations
- Independent of IT or power infrastructure
- Explosion-safe monitoring system

Technique/solution to measure laundry powder density
in order to avoid overpack
Summary
A Belgian multinational active in consumer goods looks for technical solutions allowing the on line

Printed: 01 September 2015

Description
The trainer is a modern fitness appliance, designed to facilitate ski training off-season. It is also
a controlling device in virtual skiing simulations.
The standard methods of pre-season training recommended by the instructors, such as horse
riding, cycling or exercises at the gym, are limited to selective strengthening of the muscles
involved in the ski ride.
The trainer not only builds up all the muscles you will need, but also mirrors their coordination
on the slope, in this manner teaching your body required reflexes. It will spare the beginner a
few falls, which to this day felt almost mandatory.
The trainer has in-built sensors, which make it a perfect controller for the virtual simulations of
skiing. This not only makes our training more rewarding, but also allows people who would not
normally venture real-world skiing to get as close as possible to the actual experience of a skier
without leaving the cosiness of their homes.
The inventor seeks international partners for a licensing agreement or private investors in order
to start mass production.
Advantages and Innovations
The pneumatic seat keeps the user in a safe position, replacing the centrifugal forces working
on a skier during a dynamic turn.
It is possible to regulate the force with which the board (where the user is standing) returns to
the central position.

Description
A Spanish start-up with an international and experienced team has developed a timing system
that can be used to measure time in almost any sporting event (indoor and outdoor).
A measuring system with the latest technology in timing systems which solves all the timing
requirements for different sporting events in one, easy-to-carry, platform.
The system is the first timing system that features LCD Touch screen technology for its control
interface and it also features its own Operating System, featuring specifically developed apps.
Its antennas are specially designed and constructed to get the most of RFID applied to timing of
sporting events. For instance, the floor antenna was specifically designed to be mounted on flat
surfaces and the result is a layer technology that allows high gain with reduced thickness.
This system is compatible with disposable chips, which allows sporting events organizers to
reduce their stock, therefore reducing immobilized capital.
It also features a wide range of complementary intelligent and precise chronometers and
displays for all types of sporting events. Some of these displays are display clocks to inform
participants and the audience of the elapsed time, photo stations for each chip reading,
speakers, printers and flash lights.
The system has already been tested in large marathons (with over 54,000 measured times),
large running events with over 60,000 measured times), enduros, triathlons, and other sporting
and motor events.

Description
This UK SME has experience in the design and installation of heat pump systems for pub and
restaurant cellars to keep beer at the correct temperature. The systems save a significant
amount of money by using the waste heat to provide hot water and heating for use elsewhere in
the building. Following on from this expertise, the company has developed a new product
offering that delivers a cost effective, environmentally friendly heating solution for outdoor areas
that uses waste heat from air conditioners and chillers. The technology replaces expensive to
run, fossil fueled patio heaters and infra-red heaters and takes the form of heated seating and
/or flaxseed cushions heated in a warming cupboard. The solution is suitable for outdoor areas
adjacent to the building, where people gather such as smoking areas and cafe and restaurant
seating areas.
The company has a patent on the technology and is now seeking license agreements or joint
venture agreements. License agreements could be from exterior furniture manufacturers or
shop fitters for example. Joint venture agreements could be with pub or restaurant operators
who wish to jointly develop and install this money-saving solution.
Advantages and Innovations
- Can use waste heat from any chiller or air conditioner
- Uses heat that would otherwise escape to the atmosphere
- Very low running costs
- Can be customised to suit the facility

Description
The Belgian company is a software editor based in Brussels and wants to replace motorised
urban freight transport by sustainable urban freight.
Cars and vans provide most of the freight transportation and pollution inside the cities. This
pollution can be suppressed by using intensively all the possibilities offered by sustainable
transportation (bikes, cargobikes, tricycle, electric vehicles...). And actually, enterprises are
looking for means to put green logistics in place like with bike deliveries. In a context of traffic
jams, pollution and undertakers, bike delivery is more efficient and creates short chains that the
consumers and the citizens appreciate.
This allows cities being much cleaner, breathable, and human, making then green transportation
a requirement and a way to upscale sales. First mile and last mile logistics and even same hour
deliveries can easily go green.
Therefore and with such a purpose, this software editor has developed a tool dedicated and
supporting a sustainable economy.
Technical aspects and advantages:
The software solution is natively cloud and mobile first. This platform is entirely coded by the
company, using open source programming languages and databases. They are the only owners
of their solution and can develop any type of application on top of it, like specialised mobile apps
for your projects. The environment is secured and highly available; online backup is also
provided.
Open data exchange is facilitated by their next generation architecture. Geo visualisation and

tracking are integrated. The connection of external software is easy via the API (Application
Programming Interface).
They can even provide with real time pricing and automatic invoicing within the system.
They have expertise in the green logistics field and possess unique building blocks to put green
logistics in place. Nowadays sustainable delivery is a must everywhere it is applicable because
commerces sell more
They address the e-commerce, the urban freight and urban logistics market. They also have
market applications in smart cities projects and waste collections. Food delivery and logistics
projects are concerned as well. They actually provide mobile apps using GIS (Geographic
Information System) and have their own servers. They are working on the version 2 of the
software and are preparing solutions involving IoT (Internet of Things) products. There are a lot
of market applications inside the first mile and last mile green logistics regarding the next
generation transportation products.
Type of cooperation expected :
The main cooperation type would be commercial agreements with technical assistance. Indeed
the company can provide commercial service of bike delivery.
The SME already has partners in several European countries and would like to grow its
international network. The solution can be tailored to the needs of the clients and integrated in
wider policies.
Advantages and Innovations
The solution is highly innovative because it combines:
- Functional innovation providing green logistics to enterprises
- A complete offer of services on the new markets of reverse logistics and sustainable
transportation
- Next generation technical environment from cloud servers to mobile app
- they entirely own their technical environment, and they can customise it to the user needs and
integrate well with information systems : the company provides open data and real time feed.

The design of the tool fulfills criteria of function, ergonomy, aesthetics and economy, as well as
ecology and sustainablity.
The product has reached the market maturity, there is a fully functional prototype, all technical
drawings are optimized for manufacturing, video clip, studio photos and the logo including a
registered trademark, an internet domain, packaging design and a folder are available and
included in the offer. The product is ready to be manufactured.
The Austrian SME is looking for a purchaser for the European patent and seeks financial
agreements with companies active in the fields of wood briquettes and / or household goods.
Advantages and Innovations
In household fireplaces, axes and wedges are commonly used tools for chopping wood
briquettes. They are inaccurate, dangerous, ponderous and tend to produce a lot of strand

stays in the container and can be easily disposed of in the fireplace.

Description
An artist from Germany with Italian background and focus on the creation of sculptures realized
over the years a large number of exhibition projects in the whole world (e.g. Germany, Austria,
Italy, USA, and South Korea). One other outcome of his creativity is the invention of a new sport
game. The game is an out- and/or indoor game for teams. Couple years ago the artist was
working within the framework of an EU-financed transnational project with several other
partners. One aspect of the project was inter-cultural communication in sport games. The idea
for the new game was born and it took the artist and his team several years for the composition
of consistent and manageable game structure, playing field, and rules. Today the game is
available on the market. City authorities and event organisers are the main clients that are
booking the game.
Further plans of the commercialization of the game include the development of a product
portfolio. One product planned is a computer and/or on-line version of the game. Since the artist
is focussing on sculptures, there is no expertise for the development of a computer game. Thus,
the whole technical process should be realized by a specialised company with experience in
team games, particularly in sport games. Potential partners should have an interest in signing a
Technical cooperation agreement.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
- Business references in the field of computer game development;
- Capacities for the realization of the whole game production;
- Reliability and willingness for face-to-face meeting.
