From left to right: Three generations in one picture: DI (FH) Michael Wesonig, Mag. Angelika Wesonig-Weitzer, Wilfried Weitzer, Dr Nicola Weitzer, Martha Weitzer, Alexandra Decker-Weitzer, Kathrin Wesonig SEVENTH GENERATION FAMILY BUSINESS We love wood! Our family has been tied to this natural element for over 180 years and have achieved great success: in 2007 we were distinguished as the best of 240,000 family businesses in Austria. Since April 2011, Nicola Weitzer, Michael Wesonig, Kathrin Wesonig and Alexandra Decker-Weitzer have headed up the new seventh generation of the family business. They are carrying on the lifework of their parents, grandparents and previous generations with strong dedication. We are flourishing just like the natural resource of wood thrives, and are the largest manufacturer of hardwood floors in Austria, which is the largest per capita flooring market in Europe. The manufacturing facilities are high tech, modern and 04 produce in excess of 3 million m² of flooring annually. This, alongside stringent quality control procedures means Weitzer Parkett supply the highest quality wooden floors for all installations, from hotels, restaurants, offices, banks, museums, leisure and visitor centres, schools, drama studios, shops, sports halls (over 750 in ‘Austria alone totalling over 300,000 m²), gymnasiums and aerobic/dance studios to housing developments, property refurbishments and domestic floors. Weitzer Parkett are proud of our heritage, and provide top quality products, created with precision, innovation and a love of craftsmanship. We have strong ecological responsibilities, decades of experience and supply a diverse selection of products. The company remains dedicated to providing both products and service to the highest standards possible. PRECISION FROM PASSION INNOVATIVE PARQUET CRAFTED PRECISELY BY A MASTER’S SKILLED HAND. PRECISION FROM PASSION Perfection and quality personally inspected: Wilfried Weitzer, 6th generation CEO, in the workshop in Weiz. OUR EXPERIENCE SETS THE STANDARD 180 YEARS EXPERIENCE OF WOOD WOOD EXPERTISE FROM ONE SOURCE We do all the work ourselves, from the first cut to the finishing touch, this applies to every single plank and block of wood. The highest quality is our standard. This is the secret of Weitzer Parkett. Since the early beginnings of the family operation in 1831 as a veneer sawmill, our experience in the art of wood processing has been passed on from generation to generation, and from employee to employee. Tradition and innovation are never in conflict. We lead the way when it comes to innovation. We are able to draw on our decades of experience and our dynamic search for improvements working tirelessly to discover new techniques and procedures which have today resulted in a well engineered product without an expiry date – an international sensation. “WE MANAGE THE ENTIRE VALUE CHAIN AND IN DOING SO WE PAY ATTENTION TO OUR ECOLOGICAL RESPONSIBILITY FROM START TO FINISH” 05 PURE ENVIRONMENT PURE ENVIRONMENT WE LISTEN TO MOTHER NATURE AND FEEL OBLIGED TO ALIGN OUR COMPANY WITH THE ENVIRONMENT. WORKING IN HARMONY WITH MOTHER NATURE “Healthy flourishing forests play a key role in the global climate, and consequently for life as a whole. Accepting responsibility for the environment is a major concern for us. That’s why as personal sponsors, we support the forest campaign in Romania for the preservation of the last remaining virgin forests in Europe” Dr. Nicola Weitzer and DI (FH) Michael Wesonig 06 BRE GLOBAL GREEN GUIDE WE’RE TAKING A STANCE Weitzer Parkett Hardwood Flooring corresponds to the BRE Global Green Guide online generic specifications for hard floor finishes, and achieves a summary rating of A+ within commercial buildings. As the world’s oldest and best-known eco-label, the Blue Angel stands for credibility and competence. It identifies products which are particularly environmentally friendly and at the same time meet high demands in relation to health and employment protection. Weitzer Parkett products have been tested in accordance with these strict guidelines, and as a result are entitled to carry the Blue Angel seal of approval. PURE ENVIRONMENT Energy is a valuable resource. Our internal biomass power plant, photovoltaic systems and hydroelectric power plant allow us to transform all wooden waste into environmentally friendly district heating and ecopower. The energy produced in this sustainable manner provides power not only for Weitzer Parkett’s production facility and drying kilns, but also for more than half of the City of Weiz. WE STAND FOR REAL VALUES. WE’RE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. Developed by the European Federation of the Parquet Industry (“FEP”), only solid and multi-layered real wood floors such as those manufactured by Weitzer Parkett may carry the Real Wood logo. The campaign for real wood floors has been developed to avoid confusion between real timber floors and laminate floors. (Laminate cannot carry the “Real Wood” label). Weitzer Parkett holds the PEFC Cer tificate of Sustainable Forestry. This Europe-wide system of forest certification acts as a common framework for national and regional certification schemes PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification scheme) is a certification system initiated by European private forest owners and promotes sustainable forestry. 07 PURE DETAILS PURE DETAILS OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE. To reach the pinnacle of their chosen sport, any athlete or dancer has to have a number of special qualities, such as; dedication, commitment, perseverance, determination, purpose and passion. These same qualities were used in the development of the Weitzer Parkett range of Sprung Timber Floors for Sports and Dance. When specifying or choosing a Sprung Timber Floor, there are a number of points to consider which are covered in the following pages: Activities Standards, ie BSEN14904:2006 Retractable seating systems Underfloor heating Solid or Engineered Choice of timber species WHAT TYPE OF SPORT OR ACTIVITY WILL BE TAKING PLACE? Dependent upon the type of sport or activity taking place you will have a number of options, some systems are multi-use, ie suitable for many indoor sports; for example basketball, indoor football, gymnastics etc. Other installations will only require a floor that is suitable for lower level activities such as spinning, yoga classes, dance or drama. Our wide range ensures that Weitzer Parkett have a floor suitable for your requirements. 08 PURE STANDARDS PURE STANDARDS WE HAVE ONE STANDARD. ALL WEITZER PARKETT SPORTS FLOORS ARE CERTIFIED TO THE HIGHEST STANDARD OF BSEN14904: 2006 – A4. A sportsperson or dancer is usually subjected to some form of risk in their chosen activity so for them it is important that their “performance space” is fit for purpose. Government legislation sets standards for indoor sports flooring. BSEN14904:2006 was introduced in July 2006 and all floors designed for sport or dance use should not only conform to, but in our opinion be certified to this standard. There are separate sections within BSEN14904:2006 that detail the performance factors for each type of floor: The floors manufactured by Weitzer Parkett are developed and certified to meet the requirements of the various Sports Governing Bodies standards and in meeting the criteria for an area elastic floor to A4 standard, meet the current requirements stipulated by FIBA Permanent Wooden Flooring (Levels 1 and 2) / Badminton England / England Squash and Racketball and World Squash Federation. Point elastic floors do not offer the same level of shock absorption or elasticity as an area elastic floor. Generally, sports floors that are classified as “Area Elastic” are regarded as giving the highest level of protection against injury. TABLE B.1 – SHOCK ABSORPTION (%) SOME MANUFACTURERS MAY ADVISE YOU THAT THEIR FLOORS “CONFORM“ TO VARIOUS PARTS OF THIS STANDARD BUT ARE NOT “CERTIFIED“. The standard is divided into 4 separate sections. Each section contains precise detail relating to the performance factors for each floor finish, and compares how each type of floor covering reacts against each other. It is important that these aspects are taken into consideration when choosing your floor finish, and the tables opposite taken from the standard, indicate the shock absorption and vertical deformation results between the various flooring types. RETRACTABLE SEATING SYSTEMS UNDERFLOOR HEATING SYSTEMS 10 Some projects may have a requirement for retractable seating which rolls out onto the field of play to accommodate spectators or audiences. Weitzer Parkett have a number of Sports Floor Systems that are suitable for this type of seating and have worked closely with the seating manufacturers on a number of projects. Weitzer Parkett Hardwood flooring is suitable for installation on top of underfloor heating systems, and has been installed successfully on many projects where underfloor heating was specified. Some flooring manufacturers may reduce batten centres to the Field of Play/Sport area to accommodate heavier loads, ie retractable seating. In most cases where batten centres are decreased this ultimately makes the floor more rigid which would render it no longer suitable for a sports floor under EN14904 A3 or A4. This is an area where technical expertise is required, and our Technical Department is on hand to offer recommendations regarding underfloor heating and to discuss the specification of the correct sprung sports floor with you. Sports floor manufacturers should have their systems tested at specific centres, if these are altered in any way to accommodate higher point loadings on site for retractable seating or heavier loads, this will in effect not be a “certified” system to EN14904:2006. YOUR SUCCESS. SOLID OR ENGINEERED? WE DO BOTH SOLID OAK OR SOLID BEECH? Weitzer Parkett is unique. Unlike other manufacturers, we design and manufacture both Solid and Engineered sprung timber sports floors, giving you a wider range of choice and options. Oak is one of the most stable and durable hardwoods and is least affected by fluctuating changes in Air Temperature and Relative Humidity, which tends to occur in the U.K. Engineered timber flooring is often perceived as a cheaper inferior alternative to solid timber flooring. This is not necessarily the case and engineered timber floors can overcome potential problems when underfloor heating is specified and moreover where potential fluctuations in Relative Humidity and Air temperature occur within the surrounding environment. Beech however is one of the most unstable and least durable hardwoods and is very susceptible to fluctuating changes in Air Temperature and Relative Humidity which tends to occur in a Sports Hall Environment. Oak is 4 times more stable than Beech. With a total construction height of 47 mm, it is designed to be installed on level subfloors. The system is installed using WP-Classic 21 mm Solid Block (21 x 60 x 500 mm) adhered to an engineered batten of 6 mm Birch Plywood and POR Multifoam. This results in unsurpassed shock absorption with steady ball response. This system is ideal for where bleacher/retractable seating is installed as there is no need to reduce batten centres. The installation pattern is traditional Herringbone creating a uniform even pattern throughout the field of play. WHY INSTALL IN HERRINGBONE? 14 If the floor is installed in Herringbone Design, expansion and contraction is reduced by 50% because the floor is able to expand on 4 sides as opposed to 2 sides with a Straight Lamella/Line Floor. Therefore, during installation there is no requirement for intermittent expansion gaps within the floor – only an expansion gap of 15-20 mm is required around the perimeter. Herringbone design is also more suitable when bleacher seating is being utilised, because point loadings increase. There is therefore no need to decrease batten centres to accommodate the extra weight if bleacher seating is to be incorporated. OAK 18 BEECH EUROPEAN MAPLE – IS A4 THE STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR DANCE? A4 is not necessarily the standard specification for dance, however certain parts of the requirements for EN14904 A4 are particularly relevant for dance floors, as Mark Foley in his Design Guidance for Dance Floors indicates: "Sports floors tend to require a less resilient level of performance than a dance floor because sports users are more concerned with ball bounce characteristics, for example, and also benefit from the additional comfort and protection afforded by cushioned sports shoes. Qualities such as "ball bounce" are irrelevant to dancers. However the "shock absorption" characteristics of a floor are particularly relevant and provide the protective component in the design of floors for dance where there is little or no cushioning provided by the dancers' footwear" Weitzer Parkett Sports Floors offer the highest level of shock absorption which is why they are more versatile for multipurpose use for both ball sports as well as dance. – IS THERE A DIFFERENT SPECIFICATION FOR A FLOOR BEING USED FOR OTHER SPORTS SUCH AS JUDO, TAEKWONDO, FENCING? Judo / Taekwondo sports generally involve the use of additional mats installed on top of the sprung floor. A mat or surface system will only compress a certain percentage of the material itself depending on its density if laid on a hard rigid surface such as a concrete floor. This often leads to injuries as the mats cannot absorb and dissipate the energy from a fall adequately. In Judo it is necessary to have a subfloor that deflects enough to absorb the impact of a 90kg plus person falling from sometimes above head height. Therefore a “sprung” floor with good shock absorption is necessary so that the mats are not taking 100% of the impact and a fast, firm surface is still retained. Fencing – This particular sport tends to use roll out “pistes” installed on top of the floor finish for when bouts actually take place. Weitzer parkett has many years experience in production, manufacture, specification and installation of Sprung Timber Floors. FREQUENT QUESTIONS FREQUENT QUESTIONS – IS WEITZER PARKETT FLOORING SUITABLE FOR CHANGES IN TEMPERATURE FROM 10˚C MINIMUM TO AROUND 22˚C MAXIMUM? The WP-Trend Sport 21mm is an engineered solid board (21 x 117 x 1170 mm) which ultimately will be more stable than a solid board if there are severe fluctuations in Relative Humidity and Air Temperature. – WEITZER PARKETT PRODUCE SOLID AND ENGINEERED SPRUNG TIMBER FLOORING, WHICH IS THE MOST SUITABLE? Engineered timber flooring is often perceived as a cheaper inferior alternative to solid timber flooring – this is not necessarily the case and engineered timber floors can overcome potential problems when underfloor heating is specified and where potential fluctuations may occur in Relative Humidity and Air Temperature. The cross layered construction provides an extremely dimensionally stable product compared to that of solid timber flooring. Tests have proven that engineered timber floors are 70% more stable than an equivalent width solid timber floor. Engineered timber floors also offer a solution to the potential problems of gapping or expansion of solid timber floors. Weitzer Parkett engineered sprung timber floors are unique. Unlike other manufacturers who use a spruce “softwood” core with a balancing “softwood” base layer, Weitzer Parkett have developed a sprung floor using inherently stronger “Birch Plywood Core”. – WP-TREND SPORT (2 - LAYER ENGINEERED SOLID BOARD) The board is manufactured with a hardwood wear layer of two rows, assembled on 13ply – 18 mm Birch Plywood, tongue and grooved on all four sides. (Board Dimensions 117 mm wide and 1170 mm long), Prefinished using Weitzer Parkett’s unique ProStrong Lacquer. – IS SOLID OAK MORE STABLE THAN SOLID BEECH? Oak is one of the most stable and durable hardwoods and is least affected by fluctuating changes in Air Temperature and Relative Humidity. Beech however is one of the most unstable hardwoods and is very susceptible to fluctuating changes in Air Temperature and Relative Humidity. Oak is 4 times more stable than Beech.
