he Jarvey’s Rest Traditional Irish Pub
was opened in 1990 and continues a
legacy of real Irish hospitality in Muckross,
Killarney. Located only 3 miles / 4 km from
town centre, The Jarvey’s Rest is
positioned in a very historic area. The pub
is located at Muckross Park Hotel and is
famous across Ireland.
The pub takes its name from the drivers of local carriages or “jaunting cars”.
Since Victorian times jaunting cars have traversed the roads of Killarney and the
Muckross area. The drivers of these cars were essential for the last 150 years in
transporting visitors around Killarney and locations such as Muckross House,
Torc Waterfall and Ross Castle.
These local men have contributed to the
folklore and history of Killarney and Co. Kerry.
Generations of families have worked in the
Muckross area bringing much needed earnings
to their families while providing a valuable
service to tourists.
The Jarveys are a source of history and provide an entertaining insight into life in
Killarney. After their day’s work they drink and dine in our pub, as their families
did before them. To this very day they occupy a quiet corner of this special pub.
Timeline of The Jarvey’s Rest
You open the door and feel the heat of the welcoming fire. You hear the rousing
sounds of instruments and talented musicians. You smell the freshly prepared
traditional dishes. You have arrived at The Jarvey’s Rest.
A Jarvey’s Irish Night Show is one to remember! Set in an authentic pub
venue with a capacity of 250 guests, there is history and folklore all around.
The Irish Night Show is a genuine Irish pub experience with great food and
entertainment.
The evening consists of an authentic 3 course dinner using the finest ingredients
from the Kerry area. Our entertainers are all local and highly skilled. The mixture of
traditional tunes, rousing ballads and Irish music performed by Onora, creates a
magical atmosphere along with The Torc Irish Dancers. These award winning
performers showcase Irish jigs, reels and heart pounding dances.

1795 - The first pub known as The Herbert Arms opened on the Muckross Park Hotel site.
1861 - Queen Victoria visits Killarney and stays at Muckross House on the same estate.
1932 - The Irish State declares Killarney National Park incorporating 25,000 acres.
1947 - Irish President Seán T. O'Kelly stays at the hotel.
1990 - The Jarvey’s Rest is first opened on the existing complex of Muckross Park Hotel.
