Wisconsin State Music Conference - the Wisconsin Music Educators
WELCOME Welcome to the 2012 Wisconsin State Music Conference! We know that music is now central to the curriculum in many districts. Quality music teaching and learning bring families to school districts that value the arts and creative curriculum work. Our 2012 conference will continue to provide some of the finest professional development opportunities offered in the country. Our theme this year is “Great Music, Great Minds.” We know that music study, which begins in early childhood and lasts throughout adulthood, has a tremendous impact on the development of the brain, lasting love for the art and opportunities to enrich all learning. Wisconsin Music Educators Association presents the 2012 Wisconsin State Music Conference in collaboration with The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction We are pleased to have Elizabeth Burmaster, Nicolet College president, former state superintendent of public instruction and music educator present the keynote address at the general session. Her experience as a musician and teacher continues to make her a Wisconsin expert on the power of music study. Enjoy meeting up with friends and colleagues for amazing networking and professional development, while sharpening your skills and helping advance music education in Wisconsin. Best wishes for an excellent 2012 State Music Conference experience! Situated midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, Carthage’s picturesque campus on the Lake Michigan shore is home to 2,500 full-time and 900 part-time students. Carthage awards the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in more than 40 subject areas, and the Master of Education degree. The Carthage faculty comprises more than 100 scholars, 90 percent of whom hold the doctorate or other terminal degree. Carthage boasts a long-standing commitment to educating the whole person by nourishing the intellectual, spiritual, and physical dimensions of students’ lives. At Carthage, a tradition of excellence in music dates back over a century. Indeed, the college may well be the first small private liberal arts college in America to offer an undergraduate major in music. Today, with 10 full-time and 25 adjunct music faculty, and 120 music majors and minors, we continue to enrich that tradition. To help more talented students join us every year, we offer generous music scholarships.
