Historically, Bunkie’s economy was driven by the railway station as it served as the connection between
Bunkie and the world, and the area gave birth to its industrial roots economy. The rich soil of the area
provided an abundance of agricultural products such as sugar cane, cotton and corn. This agricultural
growth sparked the evolution with major business, and most recently the 142.8 acre LED Certified
Industrial Park.

Bunkie General Hospital is a nationally award winning hospital with helipad service.

The Union Pacific & Acadian Railroad runs through the city limits of Bunkie which is a
switching station for north and south bound traffic. The Kansas City Southern railroad is 8 miles
from the city. Piggy Back rail terminals economically accessed both from New Orleans and
Shreveport.

Navigable waterways/ports includes a short haul to the Port of New Orleans as the gateway
to the world for export shipment containers . The Port of Avoyelles which maintains an 18ft draft
at all times and is capable of handling ocean going barges to and from the Gulf. The Port of
Alexandria is 40 miles from the City and has a draft of 9ft along the Red River.

U.S. Interstate 49 gives manufacturers a centralized access to all domestic and international
markets. I-49 runs west of Bunkie about 6 miles from the city limits and the industrial park.

Public transportation servicing Bunkie is run by the Avoyelles Council on Aging, providing
transportation for our aging population to all medical services and personal needs
Electricity- CLECO Power LLC supplies the City of Bunkie as well as the Industrial Park with adequate loads of electricity.
In regards to
the Park, the nearest line is adjacent to the site the size is 13.2 kV. The nearest transmission line is 1.9 miles from the site and is at least 138kV.
3-phase service is available with potentially a dual feed. The peak loan capacity is 3 MW. The nearest substation is .9 miles from the site but is
within the cityy limits of Bunkie.
Natural Gas- Centerpoint Energy supplies the City of Bunkie as well as the Industrial Park with adequate loads of natural gas.
Water - Bunkie has one water tower and 2 above ground storage tanks within the city limits and three water wells located six miles outside of
Bunkie city limits. The new water tower is currently under construction. Currently, Bunkie has one million, two hundred thousand gallons of
water readily available. The City of Bunkie is able to produce eleven hundred gallons of water per minute and can pump 19 hundred gallons of
water per minute. The system is regulated by EPA and which reports that the Bunkie water system is not contaminated by hazardous waste and
has not been identified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a candidate for cleanup because it poses a risk to human health and/or
the environment. Drinking water protection ordinances are written to suit the community of Bunkie and meet state and federal guidelines. One
hundred per cent of the community is served by the city water system. The City of Bunkie follows Louisiana’s method for enforcing Public Health
Standards Permits

Sewer - The City of Bunkie’s Wastewater Treatment Plant is located at 656 East Oak Street, Bunkie, La.
The Wastewater Department serves the sanitary sewage collection, transfer and treatment needs of almost 2000 city families. This facility is a waste water
treatment plant and was commissioned in early 2007. This plant is designed to treat a daily average flow of 1,000,000 gallons per day and average use of 750,000 GPD.
Telecommunications AT&T is the local provider of telecommunications services to the City of Bunkie and the Industrial Park. The lines border the industrial park
with the nearest central office site being ¾ miles away. The Central Office is in the city limits.
Cellular service is available with AT&T and Verizon offering 3G.
Other Services available are: Digital Switching; Fiber Optic Cable; T-1 and T-3 Lines and satellite with unobstructed view of the sky are
available.

A unique feature is that the hospital provides telemedicine as part of the Louisiana Rural Health Information
Exchange. This network links patients to specialty physicians at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport
BGH was recognized in the US News and World Report magazine for its Silver and Gold Award for
management of its patient with Heart Failure. Most recently, the hospital was listed as one of the top
hospitals in La
La. As recognized by Health Grades for its management of COPD and Pneumonia
Pneumonia.
BAYOU VISTA NURSING HOME - a five star rated Nursing Home with 96 beds offering a variety of
programs for the elderly.
CARE TEC SPECIALTY THERAPY & CARE TEC PEDIATIRIC CENTER. Bunkie is the home to
the centers that provide specialized care to medically fragile children from St. Martin Parish to Rapides. The
central location provides easy transportation within an hour from home. Since 1997, nurses and other workers
went to patients home and integrated services provided care at the therapy center with all patients and providers
coming together
together. The program has recently been approved by Governor Bobby Jindal and the La
La. Department
of Health and Hospital. According to the DHH guidelines, Pediatric Day Health Care Facility will provide parents
of medically fragile children and young adults under the age of 21 with an integrated setting in which to treat,
and even educate their children.
