dignity& respect BRINGING TO THE CITY’S CORE Community Report AUGUST 2015 THE CORNERSTONES OF WELLSPRING FOCUS ON FORT WAYNE’S CENTRAL CITY RESPECTFUL OF THE DIGNITY AND INDIVIDUALITY OF OUR PARTICIPANTS For Wellspring, the past eighteen months can be characterized as a period of direct service program growth and development, heightened Board member involvement, continued focus on measuring program performance and value, strengthened financial stability and increased community awareness. DIVERSITY OF PROGRAMMING IN TERMS OF AGE, ETHNICITY AND NEED Both internal and outside monitoring of the performance and value of our direct service programs remain a high priority. Dr. Jeanne Zehr, a local educator, reviewed our After School Program using the Indiana After School Standards. In the spring of 2015, Purdue University’s Department of Nutrition Science looked closely at our Food Bank and offered suggestions on how we might provide a more balanced and nutritious food distribution. Suggestions from both are strengthening the quality of the services. The Board and leadership staff began implementing both Marketing and Fund Development Plans after working with outside consultants. Results have been very positive as we have seen community awareness of Wellspring increase through the development of a much stronger social media presence. Also, in 2014 we were pleased with increases of 8.4% and 19.6% in individual giving and special events fund raising. During the summer and fall of 2014 we went through a reassessment process with the Foellinger Foundation and in November were informed that a four year general operating support grant had been approved. The strong support from the Foellinger Foundation and the ongoing support of other local and regional foundations have ensured the sustainability of programming. Foundation support accounted for 57% of our income in 2014. Wellspring will continue its strong focus on supporting individuals and families with its services in a manner that celebrates the individuality and dignity of each person. The agency understands that we live in a changing environment and we will remain cognizant to monitoring, adjusting and adding to the direct services offered. Francis M. In its first seven months of 2015, the Wellspring Shoppe was busy serving 408 households and distributing nearly 7,000 items. The principals of Equity Investment Group, in addition to other community sources, have underwritten the first three years of operations with contributions.
