Vail Cascade To See $35 Million Renovation The Los Angeles-based Laurus Corporation has closed a deal to purchase one of Vail’s largest hotel properties, the Vail Cascade; one of the only, true, ski-in/ski-out properties in the Vail area. The sale includes the hotel, athletic club, a portion of the parking structure at the West Vail located property and a vacant parcel that already has most of the Town of Vail approvals in place, the Cornerstone Condominium project. The Laurus Corporation intends to close the hotel, after the 2015/2016 ski/snowboard season, for parts of the spring, summer and fall in order to put in place their planned $35 million dollar renovation of the hotel; including the guest rooms, conference spaces, public areas and other facilities. The hotel will be managed by The Luxury Collection division of Starwood Hotels & Resorts and should be open for the 2016/2017 ski season; according to a spokesman for the group. The Cornerstone project will be put on hold until, at least, 2017 after the hotel renovations have been completed. For more detailed information click on: Vail Cascade Renovation 2016. Kathy Cole Vail Resorts Still Pioneering The Ski Industry! Vail Resorts turned the ski industry on its collective ear with the introduction of the EPIC Pass, allowing unlimited/non-restricted skiing at VR’s ski resorts around the Country and elsewhere. And, now, the ski company is continuing to pioneer new innovations within the ski industry, including adding the app “EpicMix Time” to the already popular EpicMix that allows skiers, and boarders, to track their vertical feet and mountain conditions as well as to access EpicMix photos. EpicMix Time will help visitors to their mountains calculate and display up-to-the-minute chairlift and gondola wait times. Most of these and other improvements are “worked-out” on Vail and Beaver Creek mountains, first, before being installed at their other resorts. For the 2015/2016 ski season, many additions are taking place at VR’s signature resorts in the Vail Valley: VAIL: a, new, “6-pack” chairlift has replaced the old Avanti Express Lift (Chair #2); increasing capacity and improving efficiency. As well, VR is planning to replace the Sun Up Lift (Chair #17) for the 2016/2017 ski season. And, catering to the female ski/snowboard community, they have added a “Women & Wine Friday Afternoon Club” which includes a half-day ski lesson followed by a glass of wine at après ski. BEAVER CREEK: in order to better provide “world-class” snow surfaces for its visitors to Beaver Creek, Vail Resorts has added “fan guns” on certain runs to help the snowmaking “refresh” project that was begun last year. Also, BC has added the White Carpet Club, a VIP experience to guests that includes a locker room with continental food service (reservations are required). The bluegrass and acoustic music festival will be taking the stage for its 4th year, February 19-21, 2016, in Avon. The fun and laid-back festival featuring a variety of live bands, beers from top Colorado breweries, wines, spirits and food has proven to be a winning combination for the Vail Valley. The festival, which takes place at Nottingham Park in Avon, is bigger than ever and will showcase artists such as: Greensky Bluegrass, The Wood Brothers, Leftover Salmon, Nahko and Medicine for the People and a slew of others. As for the beer, the two main sponsors for this year’s festival are Crazy Mountain Brewery, in Edwards, and Great Divide Brewing Co., out of Denver, who will be sharing two large beverage tents that will line the main stage along with the many other breweries.
