From 1967, Idara was operating a Sunday school, facilitating Eid Prayers and Majalis during Muharram. Later, Lola Jones Hall in Tooting was hired for Muharram programmes, which was large enough to facilitate both Men and Women. As the number of attendees increased, the basement room was unable to facilitate all the attendees. Initially the Brothers Finally in 1980, a few members of the organisation noticed the For Sale sign on what is the current Idara 5 Pillars and Strategies 6 “I am the city of Knowledge, and Ali ibn Abi Talib is its gate” Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) premises on Church Lane, Tooting. They quickly availed this opportunity and a permanent place for disseminating the teachings of the Quran and the Ahlul Bayt was established. We appreciate that this may not be the whole of Idara’s history, but it’s a good place to start! Did you know: 18 Church Lane (the current Idara premises) used to be a World War II bunker!) P9 1 The Official Monthly Newsletter of Idara-e-Jaaferiya (UK) Volume 1, Issue 1, Dec 2013 Dedication In the Name Of Allah the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Holy Progeny, the Ahlul Bayt (PBUT). This inaugural issue of the Idara-e-Jaaferiya Bi-Monthly Newsletter is dedicated to Brother Ekram Haque, who was brutally attacked outside Idara-e-Jaaferiya, in front of his then three-year old granddaughter, on 31 August 2009. This cowardly attack led to him suffering a severe brain injury and he died in hospital a week later. We pray that Allah grants him a place in Jannah Insha'Allah. “Do not suppose those who were slain in the way of Allah to be dead; rather they are living and provided for near their Lord” (Quran 3:169) Honouring our leaders: Past Aalims Just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither was Idara-e-Jaaferiya. We salute all the Ulama of Idara-eJaaferiya who have worked very hard to make Idara what it is today - Namely (in chronological order)… Allamah Rasheed Turabi, Maulana Aqeel Turabi, Maulana Ameer Hussain Naqvi (father of Shaheed Muhammad Ali Naqvi), Maulana Waris Hassan Khan, Maulana Mursaleen Naqvi, Maulana Sabzawary, Maulana Ali Hussain Baqri, Maulana Murtaza Jafri, Maulana Razi Jafar Naqvi, Maulana Raza Haider Rizvi, Maulana Ali Raza Rizvi HIWM Syed Raza Haider Rizvi The longest serving Resident Aalim of Idara-e-Jaaferiya 2 The current Resident Aalim of Idara-e-Jaaferiya is Maulana Syed Hassan Abbas Rizvi. The Official Monthly Newsletter of Idara-e-Jaaferiya (UK) Volume 1, Issue 1, Dec 2013 Letter from the President of the Idara Executive Committee Assalamu Alaykum Brothers and Sisters, You have in your hands the first issue of the Idara-e-Jaaferiya Bi-Monthly Newsletter. Its where we show you what Idara is all about and keep you informed on Idara’s progress. We are all united through the indiscriminate bond of the Wilayah of Ali ibn Abu Talib (A.S), a bond which ignores differences in race, culture, socio-economic status and any other factor. Idara’s committees and community have worked hard to maintain grip of this bond through embracing diversity and always opposing sectarianism within the centre, which we believe only transforms itself into racism. Azadari is an inseparable and fundamental part of our faith and integral towards both promoting unity and keeping the message of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his Holy Household (PBUT) alive. To this end, we have hosted the best English and Urdu scholars and reciters at Idara-eJaaferiya, to ensure that the message of Imam Hussain reaches audiences of various national and racial backgrounds. Due to the events that unfolded after Ashura, we were unable to open the Idara to the community but Alhamdulillah it now appears that the problems have been overcome which led to the temporary closure of our Islamic Centre. Our efforts are now geared towards ensuring that the Azadari of Imam Hussain (A.S) is able to continue in a safe, hygienic and respectable environment. Insha’Allah, I look forward to meeting you very soon at the next Majlis in Idara-e-Jaaferiya. Your Brother in Faith, MUHAMMAD RAZA President of Idara-e-Jaaferiya (2009 – Present) 3 The Official Monthly Newsletter of Idara-e-Jaaferiya (UK) Volume 1, Issue 1, Dec 2013 Editorial “Hal Min Nasirin Yansorni?” – Is there any helper to help me? Dear readers, While extending our heart-felt condolence to you all on the anniversary of the heart-rending martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions, we would like to request you, the justice-seeking sisters and brothers, to deeply reflect upon the question posed by Imam Hussein (AS) on the day of Ashura –the day of his martyrdom in the land of Karbala, Is there any helper to help me?. Really was that fateful question addressed just to the people around the Imam (AS) or was His Holiness addressing the upcoming generations and in fact the whole humanity asking them to rush to his help and struggle for the fulfillment of the sacred cause of guarding the Divine faith, Divine values and humane principles – righteous and justice? Certainly that exalted leader, that ever-lasting example of piety and manliness and that matchless symbol of adherence to justice and benevolence, Imam Hussein (AS) meant his Divinely-inspired words to reach the ears and penetrate the hearts of all men and women in any part of the world and at any period of time, so they would be revived, awakened and urged to stand up against evil, tyranny and corruption, to rise and fight those who oppress Allah’s creatures, who spread mischief and corruption on the earth and who aim at the elimination of Divine light and guidance His Holiness knew well if the oppressors and the corrupt are not opposed and stopped from their devilish acts, no room would be left for human life, no room for an atmosphere in which human being can breathe the air of peace and happiness and be elevated towards the sublime spiritual levels ordained for them by Allah – their Compassionate Creator. In fact, Imam Hussein (AS) taught the human beings not to let the others to enslave them, not to bow down before tyrants, not to turn blind eyes and deaf ears to the plight of the oppressed. Through his heroic fight and self-sacrifice, His Holiness conveyed to the world of humanity the lasting message that “Death in defense of the truth and justice is true happiness and life with the tyrants is but misery”. For one more illumination, please reflect upon the following Hadith from Imam Hussein (AS) “Truly people’s needs (referred) to you are of Allah’s blessings upon you, so do not get weary of the blessings.” Bihar-ul-Anwar V. 74 (source: M. Jashan-e-Mowlood-e-Kaaba is the major annual celebration at Idara-e-Jaaferiya. Hosting world-renown recitors and fivecourse meals, this is unquestionably the biggest Islamic celebration in South London. Ya Ali! The introduction of Fish & Chips at Sunday school improved attendance and punctuality. To the disappointment of many students who prefer chips with a lot of ketchup and mayonnaise, Idara is currently exploring more healthy lunch options! FUNDRAISING Our activities extend far beyond the outer walls of Idara-eJaaferiya. Sahifa Sajjadiyah: dua for good outcomes Sahifa Sajjaidyah is a collection of supplications and whispered prayers composed by the greatgrandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Imam Sajjad (A.S). It includes supplication for the Coming of the Month of Ramadhan, and supplication for Bidding Farewell to the Month of Ramadhan. At the end there is also the famous Treatise on Rights that explains beautifully the rights in an Islamic point of view. ---------------------------------------------- O He remembering whom brings honour to those who remember! O He thanking whom brings triumph to those who give thanks! Takfiri militants load a mortar. Mortar shells hit the holy shrine of Sayyeda Zainab (A.S) on Friday 19 July 2013 O He obeying whom brings deliverance to those who obey! And when the days of our life have passed by, Bless Muhammad and his Household, and divert our hearts through remembering You from every act of remembrance, the terms of our lifetimes have elapsed, our tongues through thanking You from every act of thanksgiving, our limbs through obeying You from every act of obedience! If You have ordained for us idleness from these occupations, make it an idleness of safety, within which no ill consequence visits us or weariness overtakes us! Then the writers of evil deeds may depart from us with a page empty of the mention of our evil deeds, and the writers of good deeds may turn away from us happy with the good deeds of ours which they have written. and Your call, which must come and be answered, summons us forth, then bless Muhammad and his Household and make the outcome of what the writers of our works count against us an accepted repentance, which afterwards gave us no rest in a sin that we committed or an act of disobedience that we performed! Remove not from us any covering with which You have covered over the heads of the witnesses on the day when the records of Your servants are tried! Verily You are compassionate to him who supplicates You, the responder to him who calls upon You!
