Table of Contents 2012 Highlights - Old Dominion Athletic Foundation
New Conference. New Era. With our announcement last spring that
we would be joining Conference USA in 2013, the level of competition
and our national visibility have risen tremendously. 2013 marks a new
era for the Monarchs. While we are very excited for this transition to the
next level, we are also cognizant of what is to be expected from all of
us associated with Old Dominion University. Our general premise is let’s
collectively give a Championship Effort every day and the desired lofty
academic and athletic results will be achieved. So how did we do in 2012?
Once again our student-athletes did a masterful job in the classroom as
over half earned a 3.0 GPA or higher last semester and almost 5% of
all ODU student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0! Between the spring and
winter commencements, 89 Monarch student-athletes walked across the
stage to accept their degrees. Our student-athletes remain committed
to challenging themselves in the classroom, as we continue to graduate
over 91% of our student-athletes who exhaust their eligibility.
There was also a tremendous Championship Effort given last year by all of
you. Our ODAF members and athletic supporters helped us achieve our
goal, and a record setting philanthropic year with annual giving exceeding
$3.39 million and membership hitting an all-time high of 2,883 donors.

As part of our strategic plan for ODU athletics, we have asked the ODAF
to increase annual giving by 10% each of the next five years. This certainly
is an ambitious fundraising goal, but one that we simply must accomplish
if we desire to remain nationally competitive and relevant across all 18
intercollegiate athletic programs. Year two of our strategic plan had us
right on track with an 11% increase in annual giving. Please help us keep
pace in 2013 by renewing your ODAF membership, joining the 110%
club, and helping us attract new ODAF members. This brochure contains
your ODAF giving history and personalized pledge card found on the
back inside cover.
Our best days institutionally and athletically are still ahead. Help us
maximize our potential by supporting the ODAF and our 454 studentathletes who represent ODU so well each and every day with their
Championship Effort. Thank you for your contributions to our success.

New Conference
In May of 2012 it was announced that the Monarchs would be leaving their longtime conference
home in the Colonial Athletic Association to join Conference USA on July 1, 2013. This move was
designed to not only elevate the competition of all of our sports, but was also a move to greatly
enhance ODU’s national visibility. This transition also includes elevating our football program from
the FCS to the FBS level, making ODU football one of three universities in the state of Virginia
to compete at this level. While CUSA will challenge us against a higher playing field, we remain
committed to continue playing our in-state rivalries.

financial support and help us move to the next level. The ODAF needs you as ODU Athletics

MISSION
GOALS
Mission of the ODAF
Drive for 35
The ODAF is integral to the success of Old Dominion University Athletics,
and is the channel through which our fans and alumni can partner with our
coaches and student-athletes for the advancement of the athletics program.
Annual Fund
With the ever-increasing cost of competing at the Division I level, a dynamic
donor base is critical to putting the strongest possible teams on the field
and court. The mission of the ODAF is to raise financial support for Old
Dominion University Athletics and to ensure that our coaches and studentathletes have everything they need to compete for national championships.
Expand our donor base to 3,500 by 2014.
Increase our Annual Fund by 10% on a yearly basis.
Major Gift
Increase our major gifts by 10% on a yearly basis.
Premium Seats
Increase our premium seat revenue by 10% on a yearly basis.
Conference USA Campaign
Raise $5 million in 5 years toward our transition to CUSA.
Basketball Practice Facility
Reach our goal of privately funding the new basketball practice facility.
Members of the ODAF also enjoy the satisfaction of knowing their gifts are
investments in the lives of our student-athletes, providing the academic
foundation and character building traits learned through a collegiate
athletic experience.

Maeghan Pardy
Senior Women’s Rowing from Ontario, Canada
2012 ODAF Endowed Scholarship Luncheon speaker
“I decided to come to ODU because they
trusted me and gave me a chance to
compete in America. ODU took a risk with
me and I am very grateful for the opportunity.
I have had a great experience in a college in
America and most of all at ODU.”
“I chose ODU because it’s where I felt the greatest sense of belonging. I was excited about
the new rowing program and getting to be part of the development of this team under the
direction of incredible coaches seemed like an amazing opportunity.
4
The past four years have been filled with wonderful people - coaches and teammates,
professors and classmates - who have created a home away from home.”

FOOTBALL RESEATING
Why we are reseating
The Plan
Fairness
Seat Selection Process
ODU football has some of the greatest fans in the country, as evidenced
by your voices in the stands, travel to away games, and financial support to
the ODAF. In return, your generous support deserves equitable seating in
S.B. Ballard Stadium. With the tremendous increase in ODAF supporters
and the demand for season tickets, the priority seating plan rewards longtime supporters and encourages current contributions to the ODAF.
Loyalty
The ODAF priority points system rewards annual season ticket purchases,
cumulative season ticket purchases, annual contributions, cumulative
contributions, and referrals. Donor and season ticket loyalty are the two
primary components of the priority seating program designed to reward
our most loyal fans.
Recognition
As the costs of scholarships, facility expenses, and operational budgets
increase with the move to a new conference with greater national exposure
and the move to FBS football, flexible and increased funding is needed. ODAF
members continually step forward to help meet these financial challenges
and deserve to be rewarded for their investment. By reseating, the ODAF is
recognizing members and season ticket patrons support on many levels.
As originally planned and communicated in 2009, the ODAF will be
reseating S.B. Ballard Stadium in May of 2013 to provide everyone a fair
and equitable opportunity to receive the best seats possible. Seats will be
allocated utilizing the ODAF Priority Points System outlined on page 15 of
this brochure. For instance, the donor with the most priority points would
receive the first appointment time to select their seats, followed by all other
donors in ranked order. Any remaining season ticket applications purchased
by non-ODAF members will be assigned by the Athletic Ticket Office in
priority rank order. In the event that there are more season ticket applications
than available season tickets, unfulfilled orders will be issued a refund for
the season ticket price and placed on the waiting list. Wait list members will
receive the first opportunity to purchase individual game tickets before they
are made available to the general public.
For those wanting to select seats with a group, the group must select seats
with the donor who has the lowest amount of priority points. Groups are
encouraged to contact the ODAF before the reseating process begins. You
must be an active ODAF member to retain football seats through the next
football seating cycle. Whether you are a current ODAF member, season
ticket holder, alumnus, member of our football season ticket waiting list, or
just a big fan of ODU football, the time is now to become an ODAF member
and improve your chances of receiving football season tickets.

Important Football Reseating Information
• 11,364 of our 14,134 football season tickets were tied to an ODAF gift in 2012.
• The ODAF has over 2,800 donors and the average donation in 2012 was $1,179.
• The football season ticket waitlist has over 4,500 people.
• The ODAF will factor your entire 2013 pledge (April 15th deadline, 100% pledge, 50%
payment due) into your ranking.
• The more priority points one has earned, the better their chances are of receiving
an appointment time to select seats. Please view page 15 for more information on
our priority point system.
• ODAF members will only be able to select the number of priority seats they are
eligible for at the level they donate. Please see our Annual Donor Benefits Chart
on page 14.
• If tickets outside of one’s priority are available after reseating, they will be assigned
by the Ticket Office in the best available seats based on priority.
• To be eligible for premium sideline seats one must donate at the Blue Baron level
($1,000) or higher.
• Football seats in premium seating areas (i.e. Loge Level and Luxury Suites) are
not subject to the selection process unless you also purchase season tickets
located in priority seating. You will then be designated an appointment time to
select those seats.
• In years where no selection process occurs, members will maintain their seat
assignments as long as their giving level does not decrease. If a member does
decrease their giving level, the appropriate number of seats will be reassigned
based on our annual donor benefits chart (page 14).
• Detailed information regarding the selection process, including one’s appointment
time, will be mailed out prior to May 1st.
• Appointment times will begin in mid-May and occur between 10am and 8pm.
• Appointment times are scheduled every three minutes.
• Seats can be selected online, over the phone, or by visiting the Barry Kornblau
Alumni Center located on campus at the corner of Hampton Blvd. & 49th Street.
• If one does not select seats within 30 minutes of their appointment time, the
ODAF will pick for them unless otherwise advised.
• Football reseating forums will be held prior to the reseating process. Details on
these events will be sent out at a later date.
• Due to the unknown number of season tickets that will be sold by the donation
deadline, there are no guarantees for an appointment time.
• To purchase football season tickets go to www.coxtix.com and click on FOOTBALL
SEASON TICKETS.

FAQ
Taylor Heinicke
Sophomore Quarterback from Atlanta, GA.
Walter Payton Award Winner
Dudley Award Winner
“ODU was the only offer I had out of high school. I loved
the coaches, facilities and it was close to the beach.”
My experience’s at ODU have meant a lot, from the
fan support, to the success we have had on and off the
field. I am so glad I came here.”
Q: How are appointment times determined for reseating?
Q: Will Loge seat holders be assigned an appointment time to selects seats?
A: Appointment times for reseating are only assigned to current ODAF members
and are based on priority point rankings as of April 15, 2013. The donor with the
most priority points selects first, followed by all ODAF members in rank order.
A: No. The seats located in the Loge area are premium seats purchased on a
contractual agreement. You will only be designated an appointment time if you
also purchased regular season tickets located in priority seating.
Q: I’ve purchased season tickets in the past and want to buy more in 2013.
Is this possible?
Q: Will I be able to change seat locations in 2014?
A: Yes, but your giving level may have to increase in order to choose seats on
priority, and you must do so by the April 15th deadline. Please see the ODAF
Annual Donor Benefits Chart (page 14) which explains how many tickets can be
purchased at each giving level.
Q: Can you “inherit” an ODAF member’s priority points ranking?
A: No. ODAF points are non-transferable.
Q: How do I select seats along with friends so that our families can sit together?
A: To choose tickets together, friends must select seats with the appointment
of the lowest ranked ODAF member in the group. Groups are encouraged to
contact the ODAF before the reseating process begins.
8
A: Yes, you will have the opportunity to request a change next year, based on
your donor rank. If seats are available next year after considering all requests
from members ranked higher, your location will be moved.
Q: In the event that there are more season ticket applications than available
season tickets, how will orders be fulfilled?
A: Tickets will be allocated using the ODAF Priority Points System (see page
15). Priority goes first to current ODAF members in priority rank followed by
non-ODAF members in priority rank order. Non-ODAF member season tickets
will be assigned by the Athletic Ticket Office. Any unfulfilled season ticket
orders will be placed on the waiting list. Individual game tickets will be made
available to wait list members first, then to the general public.

Matching Gifts
Many companies will match your contribution to the ODAF. Submit your
company’s matching gift form with your contribution and it can significantly
increase your support and associated giving level.
Per IRS Publication 526, the IRS 80/20 Rule relating to charitable contributions from which
a donor receives or expects to receive benefits (the right to purchase parking passes,
priority seating for events, etc.) must also be applied to the matching gift claims as well. If
benefits are related to a ODAF contribution, the matching claim could only be submitted
for 80% or the portion of the contribution, the matching claim could only be submitted
for 80% or the portion of the contribution which is considered truly charitable and tax
deductible. Please make note of this IRS policy when considering your ODAF contribution.
Memorial Gifts
Remember a friend or a loved one with memorial gifts to the ODAF.
This young alumni program builds on our membership goals while
reaching out to ODU graduates from the class of 2009 and forward.
Alumni who qualify receive double the membership benefits and access
to the Big Blue Room for men’s and women’s home basketball games.
Not only will joining this program provide a jump-start on earning priority
points, but it’s a great way to get involved with the ODAF. Be sure to mark
your pledge card for enrolling in the Young Alumni Program.
Monarch Maniacs
Recently, the ODAF took the Monarch Maniacs under its wing to connect
and educate current students on the benefits of giving back to ODU. The
student group has roughly 800 members and we are aiming to increase
that number significantly over the course of this year.
Current undergraduate ODU students can become a Monarch Maniac
through a $20 membership fee. Not only does this small contribution give
them the right to call themselves a Monarch Maniac, but they also receive
the following great benefits:
• Two (2) official Maniac t-shirts
• Giveaways at Football and Basketball games exclusive to Maniacs
• Membership Card, providing discounts at sponsored vendors in the Norfolk area
• Priority seating for home games and road trips to select away games
(non-tournament play only)
• Ten (10) priority points for every year of membership (up to 40 points)
• Invites to special events
Estate Planning
You may donate through will provisions, life insurance, and other bequests.
Estate gifts may be made by donating a designated amount, a real estate
asset or making a residual bequest. If you are interested in including ODU
in your Estate Plans, please contact our ODAF staff.
11
The ODAF is very pleased with its recent success and the generosity of
our ODAF members. In 2012 we were able to reach a record high of 2,883
donors contributing $3,399,638. Although these are benchmarks for our
program, we still need to reach our goal of being fully funded, with a
scholarship bill of over $7,100,000.

Priority Point System
Priority Point Example
The goal of the ODAF Priority Point System is to achieve an equitable
distribution of benefits. The intent of our system is to reward loyalty and
support, while enabling new donors to acquire appropriate benefits in
recognition of their financial support of the ODAF’s scholarship fund.
Big Blue has purchased two football and two men’s basketball season
tickets for two consecutive years. Big Blue has also been a member of the
ODAF for two consecutive years, donating $500 unrestricted each year for
a total of $1,000. He was also able to sign up his good friend Charles to join
the ODAF at $100. And he donated to the Championship Ring Campaign.
This would give Big Blue 186 priority points broken down below:

PREMIUM SEATS
Ted Constant Convocation Center
Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium
Club Seating
Premium Sideline Seating
Club seats at the Constant Center are available in four-seat packages and
include both men’s and women’s basketball tickets. Packages include a
parking pass and access to the private third floor club level, which offers
upscale concessions and full bar service during the game.
Luxury Suites
The third floor of the Ted Constant Convocation Center features 16 suites.
Suite ownership at the Constant Center includes all ODU basketball
games and provides the ability to purchase suite tickets to non-basketball
events including concerts, family shows and comedy shows, before they
go on sale to the general public.
Courtside Seating
For fans who want to be part of the action, on-court seating is now
available at The Ted. The luxury seats, fashioned after NBA style seating,
are located right on the court.
For fans who prefer a sideline view of the game, mid-field contoured
seating is available. These seats provide more comfort over standard
aluminum bleacher seats. Ticket packages include hospitality privileges
to the Lexus Field Pass Terrace, an outdoor, covered space on the first
level of the Ainslie Football Complex, that puts fans up close and personal
with the Monarchs as they enter the field. To purchase premium sideline
seats, a $1,000 minimum donation to ODAF is required. Seat selection is
based on the priority points system.
Luxury Suites
The third and fourth level of the Ainslie Football Complex features 27
spacious suites, including patio, loft, and standard styles. Twelve suites
boast outdoor balconies. Suites include tiered stadium seating for 12,
upholstered furniture, televisions, food service area, parking passes, and
six guest passes.
Loge Seating
For more information on our Premium Seating options,
please contact us at 757-683-6962.
Loge seats are available in two and four-seat packages on the second
floor of the Ainslie Football Complex. Packages include a parking pass,

voted to exclude ODU’s athletic programs from all CAA Championships
for the 2012-13 season. Monarch student-athletes, coaches and
administrators, under the leadership of athletic director Dr. Wood
Selig, have joined together this year under the slogan “We Are One” to
compete for conference regular season titles and/or advance to NCAA
post season play as at-large selections. Despite the CAA ban.

We ask our players, coaches and administration
to always put forth a “Championship Effort,”
and we are asking you to do the same. The
athletic department has a five year strategic
plan (posted on www.odusports.com) where
we have been asked to support these initiatives
by increasing our annual fund by an average
of 10% each year. It will take a Monarch team
effort in order to reach these lofty goals. Help
us with our “Championship Effort” by signing
up friends, family, co-workers, fellow alumni and
ODU fans to join the ODAF.

“The coaches and staff along with the location and
the history of the program are really why I chose
to attend Old Dominion. The women’s basketball
program has a wonderful tradition and the coaches
and staff really impressed me. They run the type of
system that I enjoy as a player and so it really was
the best fit for me on several levels.”

About the New Account Manager
The Old Dominion Athletic Foundation wants to keep you up-to-date on our latest efforts to place our
program in the upper echelon of intercollegiate athletics. With the move to Conference USA, we are
taking the necessary steps to improve our fundraising efforts to compete at this new level. Recently,
the ODAF has partnered with NeuLion Inc. Through this partnership, NeuLion will be providing the
ODAF with top-of-the-line software that will allow us to coordinate all our activities from a single
program, better manage our database and actively steward our growing family of donors.
Part of this improvement includes a revamped online presence to provide you with the best possible
experience. You will now be able to access your donor membership account online through your own
computer, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You will also be able to see all of your past giving, as well
as make pledges and payments toward current gifts. This type of online system will allow you more
control and access for your support of ODU Athletics.
As someone with a demonstrated commitment to what we are building at ODU, your online account
has already been created. Simply go to www.OldDominionAF.com and then click on the ODAF
Member Login tab. Once selected, you will be asked for your username and password, which are
provided for you on the top right of page 25.
Once you have entered your username and password you will have full access to your account. You
can make a new pledge or payment, check your past giving, update your address, or change your
password. You can even upload a photo of yourself or family to your personalized account! We
encourage you to take full advantage of all the opportunities our new system allows.
Finally, all of these new services are being offered IN ADDITION TO—NOT as replacement for—the
outstanding personal service you have come to expect from our ODAF staff. If you desire help using
your online account, or have any questions at all please give us a call at (757) 683-6963.
Now is an exciting time to be a part of the ODU Athletics community and we need your participation
to make our ambitious goals a reality. Thank you for all you have done in the past to bring us to this
point and thank you for your continued commitment to ODU Athletics.
Please note: If you do not have an ODAF Member # (Username), please create an account by visiting
www.OldDominionAF.com. Once you make an online donation you will be sent your account information.
