Italian Dinner & Election Meeting
April 5, 2008
On Saturday, April 5, a total of 21 members and 1 guest attended for the Italian dinner, social, and election.
(Election was cancelled on March 15th, 2008). We are so glad to have 3 new Executive board and 3 new eventonly advisors and one editor for the newsletter and website.
BRAD’s new Spokesperson (President) is Perry Mott from Columbus, for the first year from 2008 to 2009. Reelection for next Spokesperson’s 2 years term will begin from 2009 to 2011. BRAD’s new Financial person
(Treasurer) is Charisse Heine from Gahanna for a 2 year term from 2008-2010. Ellen Liedtke and Tim Miller have
agreed to continue as our auditors. No one was elected for the Recording person (secretary), but Tom Smith
from Cleveland volunteered to write the minutes for April 5th meeting.
In addition, we have 3 new “event-only” advisors for social events which previously was Betty Rogers from
Hilliard, John Kitchens from Gahanna and Perry Mott. Now, Lyndy Stephens from Gahanna, Tim Miller from
Columbus and Steven Ripple from Johnstown are our new event-only advisors.

you will need to propose your idea to “event-only” advisors for approval before you can begin your plan for
hosting a social event.

New River Rafting
Fayetteville, West Virginia
Saturday, June 15, 2008
Hosted by Perry Mott of BRAD and Ben Hall of Hallenross
How fast time flew by for me that I had dreamed for this exciting activity for long time. The last time I
was there was about last 20 years ago in which Ben Hall hosted. I asked Ben to see if he would be
interested to be our co-host with BRAD group this time, because the rafting company, Passages to
Adventure, knew Ben Hall for long time. We want to thank Ben Hall and Hallenross for planning with us
of this awesome activity.
We had 25 rafters joined in our group. There were 4 boats which we named B…R…A…D instead of
Boat #1,#2,#3 and #4. For fun, Lori Woods, Lorraine Rogers, Dayna Moebius and I brainstormed funny
label of names for each boat.
Boat “B” called “Backward”
Boat “R” called “Right”
Boat “A” called “Anchor”
Boat “D” called “Dead End”
Rafters kept rowing backward, never forward to finish line.
Rafters kept rowing towards the right bank of the river and were
stuck there repeatly, never staying in the middle of water towards
the finish line.
Rafters kept rowing the boat, it never moving because rafters did
not realize the anchor was hooked at the bottom of the river, never
arrived at the finish line.
Rafters didn’t use a river map, that why they always arrive at
“Dead End” instead of at the finish line.
The weather during the rafting trip was fair. In the morning, it was cloudy, and the rain began at
lunch. When we arrived at the finish line, the rain stopped for rest of evening. Most of the rafters went
swimming in the river, because it was much warmer than the rain. Few people fell off the boat during
the rapids. They were all right. We enjoyed watching our people jumping over the big boulder into
the water, because we were like having a teenager’s spirits and roughness. Lyndy Stephens and Jodi
Collins were our funniest stunts on jumping.
In the evening, we were at our campground lounge with a cash bar, watching our video movie on
DVD TV which showed our rafting like a candid camera. Half of the rafters from the group purchased
the “40 minute” DVD candid camera rafting movie. Homemade ice cream by Perry Mott, cake
baking by John Beall, and chocolate candy bars by Henry Cook all were served.
We had door prize winners …… Gayopoly game went to Henry Cook…. A free rafting ticket to
Lorraine Rogers.
We want to give special appreciation to
For providing interpreting services for us throughout the whole weekend of rafting and socializing at
the campground.
Also many thanks to the 8 hearing rafters for volunteering as interpreters on each boat on the river.

Pre-Pride Cook-Out
At Lyndy Stephen’s Residence in Gahanna.
Friday, June 27, 2008
The executive board wanted to host an opportunity for deaf gay, lesbian, bi and transsexual to
socialize together before attending at the Gay Pride Festival the following day. Here we are…. Go
Pride!
Two of our guests were new and recently moved to Columbus are Donna Fine from Oklahoma and
John Mansueto from Florida. We had delicious hamburgers and brats grilled by Henry Cook. Lyndy
Stephens and Tim Miller also made different dishes. We want to thank John Beall for baking the
“Orange Dream” Cake and to Lori Woods who won the 50/50 raffle prize for donating the raffle $$ to
BRAD’s fund.

Gay Pride Festival
Saturday, June 28, 2008
We had a wild weather at the festival. We gathered in the area front of the stage in Bienninal Park. It
was nice to see more gay/lesbian deaf socializing out there. We did not stay longer, because the
storm was coming so most of the people left earlier. Hopefully, we will see these people again at the
next BRADs’ events to better know each other for warmth feeling like a family. This is especially to the
young people who braved themselves to meet and get to know everyone, and hopefully they would
be interested in starting their youth group to join BRAD someday.
No photos, sorry due to storm.
