Central Highlands Sportshear at Carcoar Show October 2013 An exciting day with beautiful weather and 4 Shearers entered in the Novice Class, 9 in the Intermediate Class, 11 in the Senior and 6 in the Open events. Judges Paul Dawson, Steve Russel l, Phil Balcombe, Justin May, Andy Duggan, Dan Taylor, Robbie Poidevan, Steve Mudford and Marg and Tim Johnston were kept busy as the competition was very tense. The large crowd was appreciative of the new grandstand and shade cloth, erected especially for the shearing spectators giving them a comfortable place to watch the closely contested events. There was hardly a spare seat all morning and well into the afternoon. Contestants came from Orange, Mandurama, Gilgandra, Nyngan, Trunkey Creek, Warragai Creek, Crookwell, Canowindra, Tasmania, Hobby Yards, Henty, Blayney, Bathurst, Murrundi and lots of places in between. The 300 sheep required came from Canowindra area and were freighted at “mate’s rates” for the Society, by John Edmondson of Blayney, which the Show Committee greatly appreciated. The Shearing winners were:Novice DJ Taiaroa 1st, Brenton Robinson 2nd, Rianne Miles 3rd and Nadine McGaw 4th. Intermediate:- Nathan Haynes 1st, James Russell 2nd, Frank Hook 3rd and Tom Hutchinson 4th. Senior:- Hendrix Paahi 1st, Tony Johnston 2nd, Tom Lewis 3rd and Hayden Tidswell 4th Open; Stacey Te Huia 1st, Jacko Hira 2nd, Steve Mudford 3rd and Tim Johnson 4th Best Local Shearer of the day was Jacko Hira of Blayney who won the John Connolly Memorial & Perpetual Trophy and the Best Quality Points went to Frank Hook of Hobby Yards. The woolhandling was divided into 2 categories Novice and Open with 13 entries overall coming from a wide area surrounding Carcoar. Judges for the event Dick Fuller, Perry Platt, George Connolly, Margaret and Tim Johnston were kept busy trying to separate the contestant’s scores. Winners were: Novice:- Mel Edmondson 1st (2013 Bathurst Showgirl!)18.85 points; Jed Shortland 2nd, 19.73 points; Rianne Miles 3rd , 21.8 points; and Shaylyn TeHuia 4th, 26.76 points. Open:- Michaela Laneyrie 1st, 17.62 points; Ursula Taiaroa 2nd, 18.22 points; Jacko Hira 3rd, 21.02 points; Nadine McGraw 4th, 23.64 points.
