JAMIE
FOXX
TELLS WHY DAUGHTER CORINNE IS HIS RAY OF LIGHT
AS SHE PREPARES TO MAKE A DAZZLING DEBUT
Jamie poses with his daughter Corinne at the Foxx family’s stunning home in Los Angeles.
The 20-year-old is studying at university in California, models in her free time and would
eventually like to follow in her dad’s acting footsteps. ‘I’m very supportive of Corinne pursuing
all her goals and dreams,’ says Jamie.
‘Corinne is one of the most grounded
people I’ve ever met. She really doesn’t care
about my fame. To her, I’m just Dad’
amie Foxx has made his name as one of the
most talented people on the planet: an actor,
r
Jsingerr songw
g riter and stand-up comedian who
has won numerous aw
a ards, including an Oscar
and Golden Globe during his 25-y
- ear career.
r
But fo
f r fa
f ther of tw
t o Jamie, 46, it’s the opinions
of his daughters Corinne, 20, and five-y

Anelise that count most.
“My daughters are the loves of my life

Jamie. “They hav

devotion to fa

halff sister Leah, 6, who joined the fa
f mily in this
exclusive photo shoot.
“My sisters are both much younger than me
so I’m very protective of them; we don’t hav
a e
that rivalry that most siblings do,” she tells us.
Jamie shares that instinct and has been carefu
f l
to keep the identities of Corinne’s and Anelise’s
mothers out of the public domain.
At the end of November,

r Corinne wi

Born Eric Marlon Bishop, Jamie was raised
in Te
T xas by his maternal grandparents. Encouraged by them, he studied classical music
and composition at Califo

ty.
A stand-up comedy career began unexpectedly in 1989 when his then-girlfr

dared him to perfo
f rm on open-mic night.
Getting a taste fo
f r the stage and learning
that fe
f male comedians were oft
f en called up
first, he changed his name to the ambiguous
Jamie Foxx.
In 1991 Jamie joined the cast of In

the Best Actor Oscar in 2005 as Ray

Jamie’s values of hard work and education
hav
a e clearly been passed on to Corinne, a student at the University
t of Southern Califo
f rnia.
“Right now,
w I am studying public relations
and business administration,” she say
a s. “College is the best thing that ever happened to
me. I’ve grown so much.”
She has also recently appeared in a campaign fo
f r the accessories brand Icing. “Modelling is a great way

f r me to work while I’m
studying. And hopefu

“We

and film proj

creatively minded, so we bond through our
love of art, music and film. I wish I was fu

enough to be a comedian. My dad is gift

with his comedic talent.”
SUPPORT
R ING ROLE
Corinne’s ambition must make fo
f r a packed
schedule. Does Jamie ever worry she’s overr
doing things?
“I’m very supportive of Corinne pursuing
all her goals and dreams,” he says. “I fe

Daddy’s girls: Big sister
Corinne sets a fine
example for her six-yearold maternal half-sister

half-sister Anelise, 5. ‘My

HELLO! 77
With her good looks
and athletic physique,
it’s little wonder that
Corinne is a model in
demand – something
Jamie approves of.
‘My dad loves when
I’m the centre of
attention,’ she says.

get ready for the opening waltz,” vows Jamie. “I
can’t step on my baby girl’s toes.”
Inspired by traditional debutante balls in the
United Kingdom and France, where aristocratic
young ladies would “come out” to society, Le Bal
was revived in 1992 to raise money for children’s
charity Enfants d’Asie.
“With school and work, it’s been tough preparing for Le Bal,” says Corinne. “But I researched
the event and saw all the beautiful, well-rounded
ladies involved and I was instantly hooked. I was
also interested in using Le Bal as an opportunity
to spread awareness about my philanthropy of
choice, bullying prevention.”
Even for a seasoned red-carpet professional like
Corinne, wearing a unique Marchesa gown at the
event is another irresistible draw. “I flew to New
York for my dress fitting. I got to try on so many
beautiful dresses. I felt like a princess,” she says.
Le Bal marks a young woman’s coming of
age and Jamie is confident Corinne will make
the right choices in life, even when it comes to
love. “Fortunately, she hasn’t brought anyone
home who required scaring off. I’m ready,
though, just in case.”
LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER
Given her determination to follow in her father’s famous footsteps, Corinne has taken one
particular piece of his advice to heart.
“Dad told me, ‘Never let anyone take your
happiness away from you,’” she says. “There are
always people who’ll want to tear you down or
make you feel you’re not good enough. My dad
has taught me that no one can make me feel
inferior or like I can’t do something. He’s taught
g
me that I’m in control of my own happiness.”
