Dear gymnastics friends,
After a wonderful and remarkable Golden Age event in Toulouse 2014, I would like to welcome you
to join us in the lovely city of Portorož and Piran in 2016.
I think that we all were impressed by the Slovenian LOC presentation in Toulouse last year. In September 2015 when the Info meeting was held for HOD of the European countries, the Slovenian LOC
manage to impress us even more. Great presentation, nice meals and a bike ride along the coast
from Portorož to Piran to see the main venues. All Hotels look great and are located on the coast
and really in walking distance from most of the venues. We also went on a sailing trip along the coast
and some of us went swimming in the clear Adriatic Sea. It was just a wonderful experience in the
Mediterranean climate and I’m sure we will all have a great time there in October 2016.
I would like to express the sincere gratitude to the Slovenian Gymnastics Federation and in particular to the experienced and capable members of the Local Organizing Committee for the great work
already accomplished.
From our perspective the 5th edition of Golden Age Gym Festival is just around the corner and
all the energy of Slovenian Gymnastics Federation as well as the LOC is focused into delivery
of outstanding event that will match the outstanding scenery that Portorož possesses which
makes it a perfect location of the GAGF. All of those attending the Info meeting in September
had the opportunity to see it for themselves and all others will have the same opportunity in
less than a year.
As the LOC president I am proud and honored that I can extend my invitation to each and every one of you on behalf of my Federation and on behalf on my team that is already working
around the clock with the intention to make the organizational part of the festival absolutely
spotless and affordable. We really hope that you will join us in Portorož in the beginning of
October 2016 and that we will be able to count the record number of participants. You are
more than welcome.
Last but not least I am also proud to announce that Slovenian Gymnastics Federation will also
host another big UEG event – 2016 TEAMGYM Championship that will take place in Maribor not
far away from Portorož immediately after the conclusion of GAGF. Should you have the desire
to attend this event as well do not hesitate to contact us and we will make the arrangements.

GENERAL INFO
GAGF HISTORY
After the test edition in 2005 and the 1st Golden Age Gym Festival 2008 in Maspalomas, Canaries (ESP), the 2nd GAGF was hosted by Portimao (POR) followed by 3rd GAGF in Montecatini
(ITA) and 4th GAGF in Toulouse (FRA), 5th GAGF will take place in Portorož, Slovenia.
We are looking forward to continue our friendship with those of you that we had a chance to
meet at our presentation at GAGF 2014 in Toulouse and joined us at Info meeting for GAGF
2016 in Portorož. And we can’t wait to meet all of you that will join us in Portorož for the first
time!
From 2nd to 7th October 2016 Slovenia will host the most important UEG Over 50 Gymnastic
Festival: Golden Age Gym Festival 2016! The UEG Golden Age Gym Festival is not only a week
of recreation but offers also the possibility to all participants to improve their abilities and to
discover new activities and sports.
This “Gym Festival and joie de vivre” for the Over 50 generation has the purpose to inform the
gymnasts from the 50 UEG National Federation about gymnastics benefits and let them experience the several gym related activities. The gymnasts shall have the pleasure to be involved
in this unique Gym Festival where group presentations and leisure activities are planned together.
Health, fitness and well-being, as well as specific measures to maintain or recover mobility of
the “Over 50” generation, will be the watchword throughout the event. Of course, we will not
forget about several social activities where you will be able to spend time with your group or
meet other gymnasts from all over Europe. Special value of the event is also in the several
touristic points available in the vicinity that can make this visit even more unforgettable. The
importance of the 2016 UEG Golden Age Gym Festival is supported by the following facts:

We have more than 1900 participants registred for GAGF 2016,
Portorož and Piran offer a unique setting on the sea side where everything is close by,
Slovenian Gymnastics Federation has already organized several successful sport events
(annual World Cups, European Championship 2004, various Congress events).
Because this is the first “Gymnastic for All” event we will make sure to leave you with the
best possible impressions.

The 5th Golden Age Gym Festival will take place in the warm setting of the Adriatic Sea in
Portorož from 2nd to 7th October 2016. Slovenian Gymnastics Federation is honored to
be able to welcome you to our beautiful country and you can rest assured that we will do
everything to make your attendance of the event a memorable experience.

Average temperatures in Portorož and Piran in October are around 20°C, with sea
water having 18°C. The entire festival area is placed in a Mediterranean setting where
almost everything is close together (within a walking distance).
BY PLANE
HOW TO GET HERE!
HOST CITY INFO
Small seaside town of Portorož, known for its tourism, beneficial Mediterranean climate
and clear sea water, is a perfect location for hosting the UEG Golden Age Gymnastic Festival 2016. All the cultural and natural sights in Portorož will give you the best possible
motivation and energy for planned activities.
Located on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, with its neighbor, ancient city of
Piran, Portorož forms a cultural and natural heart of the Slovenian sea coast. Through
the years Portorož developed a long tradition of tourism and offers numerous hotels and
apartments; small airport and marina are just a short walk away from city center which
is always lively and full of shops and restaurants, interesting cultural sights and beautiful
natural attractions.
In Portorož you can relax and renew your energy or stay active with many activities that
town has to offer. You can swim in Mediterranean Sea, enjoy a boat trip with local fishermen or take a bicycle ride to several picturesque villages that are known for their premium olive oil and excellent vegetables and fruit.
There are many airports in nearby that you can use to visit us. Transfers will be provided
from all the airports in the vicinity:

BY BOAT
There are several ferries coming to Koper dock, which is around 15 km away from Portorož. There is also a beautiful modern marina in Portorož with more than 1000 berths
available. Portorož Marina provides a good haven for your boats in all winds.
BY CAR / BUS
Travelling by a car or a bus in Slovenia, you can come to Portorož using the A1 motorway to
Koper. Please note that you have to buy a vignette to drive on Slovene motorways. Most of
official hotels have their own parking. LOC will also provide a special parking space for buses.
BY TRAIN
Short walk by the sea from Portorož will take you to Piran, one of the most photogenic
cities in the Mediterranean where you can enjoy local cuisine in many great restaurants
in old city center. Or you can just relax in natural spa and wellness centers at the thermal springs that offer salt water and mud wraps health treatments.
A vast array of sights and events will make your stay in Portorož anything but boring.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana, is a European Green Capital 2016. On Golden Age
Gym Festival 2016 we will join Ljubljana in the commitment to raise environmental
awareness and to promote environmental improvement and sustainable development. We will try to make Portorož a pleasant place to live and work in by using public
transport, recycling waste, reducing paper waste, using reusable cups …
Closest train station is around 15 km away from Portorož in Koper with international connections to all the neighbouring countries. 30 km from Portorož you can also find train
station in Trieste.

On Golden Age Gym Festival 2016 we will have two main meeting points of the festival. First
will be an outdoors gathering point of GAGF 2016 Village, located next to the beach in St.
Bernardin Resort. It will be perfect place to have a cup of coffee on a sunny day in Portorož.
Second meeting point will be located in a historic salt warehouse called Monfort, which is
now transformed into a gallery. In case of bad weather village will be only in Monfort. There
will also be a party every night in Monfort!

LOC prepared a choreography for Flash Mob of GAGF 2016 and we will all dance it together
on Golden Age Gym Festival 2016. Flash mob was choreographed by Mrs. Azra Selimanović
from Libero Dance Center on a song named “Only Love” from 2002 Slovenian Eurovision
contestants Sestre. Video with step by step choreography will be available on GAGF 2016
official web site.

PARADE
GALA
On sunday 2nd october
On thusrsday 6th october
Let’s make an amazing start of The Golden Age Gym Festival 2016 together – let’s all be part
of The Golden Age Parade – let’s all take a short walk from the Village to Auditorium Portorož,
where the opening ceremony will take place. It will be one kilometer of fun.
You will enjoy glorious Gala event in the Auditorium Portorož on 6th of October, from 17.30
to 19.00 pm.
The main theme for Gala will be Eurovision, since in 2016 Eurovision song contest will celebrate its 60th anniversary. All performances have to be prepared around the theme Eurovision. Each team leader should pick a Eurovision song from their country to perform on.
All communication concerning the Gala will be done directly with the Gala choreographer,
who will be in contact with the Gala responsible person from each delegation.
The performances at Gala are reserved for Nations that participate at the event with at least
3 groups. Each performance is limited to 3 minutes, including marching in and out. It’s not
allowed to divide the choreography in two parts.
The UEG Technical Committee of “Gymnastics for All” can invite further groups from National
Federations with exciting performance, like as a good example of how to work with senior
gymnasts. For this possibility, the group selected must prepare a presentation shorter than
3 minutes and submit its candidature.
There will be reserved seats for the participating gymnasts in Auditorium Portorož, so they
will be able to enjoy the Gala Show.

The opening ceremony will occur in the Auditorium Portorož where the Parade ends. It will
be about one hour long show, starting at 17:00. Throughout the performance, we will try to
do our best to present your our beautiful country. The title for Opening ceremony will be

Final event of the festival will take place in the Auditorium Portorož, on 7th October from
17.30 to 19.00 pm.
To take part in the Closing Ceremony, participants can enroll during the week, directly with
the workshops instructors or at the info point in the Village. They must choose one of the
workshops in which they have participated during the week among those proposed.
The main theme for Closing Ceremony will be Eurovision!
VENUE: Auditorium Portorož
Opening ceremony, Gala and Closing ceremony will be carried out in a great setting at the
large Auditorium Portorož that can comfortably welcome more than 2.200 people. Auditorium is located in the center of Portorož and is very close to all other points of interest.

FORUM
On wednesday 5th october
The Forum will take place on 5th of October from 9:30 to12:00 at the St. Bernardin Resort. It
will consist of educational matters (theoretical), exchange of ideas and experience between
the participants at the Forum. On this Golden Age Gym Festival Forum will have the topic:
“Innovative choreography”. The Focus will be on how to improve your Choreography, and
we will try to give you the inspiration to continue with your good work.
The Forum is in first hand organized for Choreographers, team leaders, coaches, assistant
coaches and heads of delegations. As a Golden Age participant, you are also welcome, if you
feel you gain knowledge from the topics. Everyone need to sign up before the event. The
official language will be English.

CITY PREFORMANCES
On Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th october
The maximum time for each performance is 6 minutes (including preparation of the venue
and marching in and out). Performances shorter than 5 minutes are warmly recommended!
We encourage coaches to prepare a performance based on a song from Eurovision contest.
The organizing committee will check the music before and in accordance with UEG instructions files with too long music will be rejected.
Groups should be composed of a minimum of 6 active performers; each group has the
opportunity to perform twice during the week.
The group should be ready to perform 15 minutes before their scheduled time.
There will be changing rooms available at all sites. Performers should take care about props
on their own. If you should require additional help from the LOC, please provide a written
request as soon as possible.

Dancing activities
WORKSHOPS
Each team will choose 4 to 6 workshops in the proposed list.
Each participant will get 4 workshops. Among those you will select, we guarantee at least 2
of them. Participants will have 30 minutes between each workshop.
Gymnasts must arrive in suitable outfit for practice to the workshops, sport shoes for the
indoor and outdoor activities and swimwear for water activities.
At the workshops Venues there will be guides and signs telling you where to go and where
you can find your workshop. All workshops will be concentrated in a St. Bernardin resort so
you can easily walk to all workshop venues.
Some workshops will have limited number of places available. In such cases “first-come, firstserved” principle will apply.
To help participants in their choice, workshop video presentations will be available on our
website before March 2016.

Special Workshop for Choreography
The main goal for this workshop is to work with your team, practice your team routine, get
inspired and receive feedback- everything to improve your performance. This is an opportunity
to work with another choreographer and get some ideas from him/her. This workshop is for the
whole group and the coach must bring the routine music with them and props if any.

GAGF 2016 CARD
Travel agency Kompas has prepared flights and transfers for visitors and participants of
Golden Age Gym Festival 2016 in Slovenia. The booking application for transfer and all information will be available on offical GAGF application. For all additional information and
individual registration please contact [email protected].
There are several flight connections which are organized with special charter planes only for
you, and flights on regular connections. We suggest to choose charter flights in benefit of
direct flight and lower price of plane ticket and transfer from airport to the hotel and back.

TRANSPORTATION DURING THE EVENT
All venues will be concentrated around the two main hotel complexes – Bernardin and LifeClass – with 1, 3 km distance between them. You can choose to walk and enjoy the beautiful
coastline or take a minibus that will be driving between the venues. There will also be bikes

VOLUNTEERS
Golden Age Gym Festival 2016 is a big festival that cannot be done without a help from volunteers from all over the Europe. If you want to join GAGF 2016 as a volunteer please send

BOOKING
All reservations for accommodation will be done solely through online application. Because
the number of rooms is limited the Organizing Committee suggests you make your reservations as soon as possible. Your reservations is confirmed with the received payment. The
principle of “first-come, first-served” applies.
Before mentioned prices are guaranteed for participants that apply until the registration
deadline and make reservation through LOC. Registrations after the deadline or directly to
the hotels outside our offers have no price guarantee. Prices for accommodation after 31st
May will be 10% higher and prices for transfer for participants who did not register for accommodation packages through LOC will be 25% higher.

We prepared a full range of excursions that all participants can take part of during GAGF
2016. You can apply for excursions when registering for GAGF 2016 online or you can apply

Piran
We will walk at the sea side to one of the most photogenic cities in the Mediterranean. Enter
the picturesque Piran, get to know its rich history and culture, and listen to the stories of our
people.
In Piran, you will feel as though you have stepped right into a picture postcard. You will be
charmed by the narrow streets within the old town wall. In the main square, you will be
greeted by the statue of the most famous man in Piran, the well-known Giuseppe Tartini,
composer and virtuoso violinist. Above the compact town center reigns St. George’s Cathedral, this gives the city its special character. There are many galleries, Maritime museum and
Aquarium, which can be visited for extra charge. Tour ends in Piran.

Portorož – Salt pans – Izola
The panoramic tour will showcase the main highlights on the Slovenian coast. With entertaining guide you will enjoy the story and history of Istrian region. Panoramic ride passing
tourist resort Portorož will take you to the salt pans of Sečovlje only 15 min drive from Portorož.
In area, known as Sečovlje Salina Nature Park, the symbiosis between man and nature is
marked with centuries-old tradition of salt-making; from the Middle Ages till today it has created a unique salina landscape. Visit will take app 1, 5 hours. After Salina you will continue to
Izola, old fishermen’s town, with great and wine and olive oil tradition. Glass of wine will be
served in one of the nicest Wine Shops. Wine tasting in Izola. On return to Portorož, you will
have also Photo stop in scenery sport over the coast line. Return to Porotorž.

Postojna Cave
Postojna cave is located in Karst region, only 50 minutes’ drive from Portorož. Enter the mysterious more than 20 km long Karst cave system where is lots of great underground galleries
and halls. Magnificent cavernous halls with impressive sculptures like their colors will take
your breath away. Part of visit is done by electric train and part of it as guided walking tour.
Viewing time in the cave is app. 1, 5 hours. Walking shoes and jackets are recommended, due
the temperature in the cave which is around 10 degree.

Lipica Stud farm
Ljubljana – capital city + Lake Bled
Your tour begins with a scenic, 90 minutes’ drive to Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia. Ljubljana is the cultural, educational, economic and administrative center of Slovenia. During the
tour you will see the old city. There are located the most interesting buildings and monuments like Town Hall, Three Bridges, Franciscan cathedral, the fountain of Francesco Robba
and more. You will visit a mighty medial fortress, with funicular, a symbol of the Slovenian
capital. After tour you will enjoy some free time to explore further or browse in the shops.
Continuing to Lake Bled - a glacial lake in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. Its charm
has made it a symbol for centuries of a town to which guests from all over the world. First we
will make panoramic drive around and short walk along the lake. For extra charge you can
visit the medieval castle with magnificent view to the lake or take a boat - pletna – for a cruise
to the lovely island in the middle of the lake. After that you may take some free time for enjoy
yourself or browse the shops or try famous Bled cake. Return to Portorož.
The Lipica Stud Farm is one of the most beautiful cultural – historical monuments in Slovenia, app 40 minutes’ drive from Portorož. A tradition of over 430 years can be found in the
rich offer of various unforgettable experiences. Enjoy a guided walk beneath the crowns
of mighty trees, enter the world of Lipica through museum of the Lipizzaner or take some
rest in elegant style. After visiting the stud farm you can enjoy some free time.

Škocjan Caves
The Škocjan caves are unique natural phenomenon, created by the river Reka. It’s only
40 min drive from Portorož. There you will see the biggest underground canyon on the
world. The Škocjan caves are on the UNESCO s list of natural and cultural world heritage
sites. The tour will take you through the underground bridge where you will take you
through the underground bridge where you will cross the river over 40 m. The cave temperature is 9 degree and the tour takes about 2 hours. Take a jacket and walking shoes.
Some free time and return to Portorož.

Taste of countryside
That s it, if you’d like to taste the day…The tour begins with a drive to Lopar village on Slovenian countryside. First you will visit the typical Istrian old house which was remodeled
to Regional Ethnological collection. The tour continues, with a visit to a private wine cellar.
There we will take a time to learn the importance of wine in Slovenian culture and to enjoy in
tasting of local wines, olive oil, chess and homemade bread as well.

Hrastovlje
You are welcome to the fairy tale village under the Karst edge, only 35 minutes from Portorož. Hrastovlje are a real tourist attraction, where stories from the past, art, tradition and
people intertwine. Guided tour through the village, visiting of gallery Jože Pohlen – Slovenian
academic sculptor, old objects from the farmer’s life, arm from the two world wars, soldier’s
uniforms, can be seen in private Pohlen collection. And at the end of our walk you will visit
the church of Holy Trinity from 12th century. This is only Slovenian church completely painted, where the famous motive of the Dance of Death is hidden. After all visits there are also
two wine & food tasting, where you will taste local wine, and some Istrian homemade dishes.
