Calcutta High Court : Built in 1862 - The oldest
High Court in India is an exact replica of the Stand
Hans in Ypres, Belgium. Designed on Gothic lines by
Walter Grenville, it is reminiscent of the colleges in
Oxford. The original courthouse stands on the eastern
side and the later annexes have been built around it.

architecture. The red sandstone construction,
ornamental decorations on the walls, stained glass

Bombay High Court: Built in 1878, designed by
Col. J. A. Fuller is a Gothic revival in the Early
English style architecture. It is a four storied stone
structure 562 feet long and at its highest point 178
feet high topped by a gabled roof. To the west of the
central tower are two octagonal towers.

Allahabad High Court: Built in 1916, the
building was designed by Frank Lishman. The
structure is adapted to the hot climate of the area
with double roofing. It has a domed pediment
centre, arcade wings, stone balustrades and
engrained arches reflecting Indo Gothic
architecture.

Andhra Pradesh High Court: Built in 1919, the
High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the
States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, stands
on the south bank of the River Musi. Built in red and
white stones in Saracenic style it stands a testimony
to Nizam's golden era.

Karnataka High Court: Built in 1868, located in
Bangalore, functions out of a red brick building
known as Attara Kacheri meaning Eighteen offices.
It is a two-storied building of stone and brick,
painted red, in the Graeco-Roman style of
architecture.

located in Jabalpur, the building is constructed in
brick-lime with ornamental towers and cornices.
The architecture of the building is mixed baroque
and oriental. The arches and the bastions at the
corner are ornamental.

Patna High Court: Built in 1916, it has been
designed by J. F. Munnings and A. M. Millwood,
from Australia. The entrance hall is artistically
finished in Marble. There is a huge dome and the
massive marble parapet adds grandeur to the
structure with the red slant roofing.

Himachal Pradesh: Located in Simla, the high
court was earlier housed in Ravenswood the historic
building with a Tudor-style structure. To meet the
growing need of courtrooms, a ten-storey new
structure has been made in the front half of
Ravenswood where the court now functions.

Kerala High Court: Located in Ernakulam, the
new nine storey complex was built in 2005. It has
been built on the pattern of the traditional Kerala
architectural style of quadrangular buildings with
inner courtyards.
