We engage people of all ages and cultural backgrounds with free opportunities and friendly guidance to help them learn English, build job and technology skills, prepare for citizenship and attain educational goals. 13 MULTNOMAH COUNTY LIBRARY Our Vision: We will help prepare children for school success through culturally appropriate, engaging storytimes and youth programs that focus on developing and celebrating literacy in their home language(s). We will provide a rich collection of materials that entertain and educate in the primary languages spoken in our county, which are currently English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian. We anticipate changes in demographics that open up new opportunities to serve emerging communities. We will provide access to technology training in the primary languages spoken in our county. We will continue to have positive and informative media coverage in the primary languages spoken in our county. We will develop our brand to ensure our program speaks to immigrant communities about the value of their public library. We will use data about our patrons and community to craft responsive strategies to serve them better. We will collaborate to find the best use of on-line and in person internal communication to best serve immigrant communities. We will develop strategies to best serve immigrant communities in the digital library space and determine what resources are needed for implementation of identified strategies. 14 MULTNOMAH COUNTY LIBRARY Award-winning Multilingual Web Site 15 MULTNOMAH COUNTY LIBRARY Immigrants in our libraries Pictures by Kristin Beadle 16 MULTNOMAH COUNTY LIBRARY Developing the Next Generation • Library School Two of our bilingual staff have gone to get their masters in library science and promoted to librarian positions. • Leadership Academy Internal leadership development training.
