Chinese Night
Chinese Night, hosted by students in teacher Na Ye’s Chinese
class, was held on December 19,
2013. The theme of the event was
“Be thankful for people who support us in life and share joy with
them.” During the one-hour event,
the awesome Chinese students
provided their honored guests with
a wonderful cultural feast, as well as
delicious Chinese food and beverages.
Can you imagine how similar the
English pronunciation of words like
Minneapolis, Harvard, and Coca
Cola is to Chinese?
Can you imagine that thousands
of complicated Chinese characters
can be easily recognized starting
with eight basic interesting pictures?
Are you interested in how the
Modern Chinese characters evolved
from characters developed 3000
years ago?
Are you interested in how the
ancient characters depict human
thoughts?
Are you interested in what
tattoos were used for in ancient
China other than for body decoration?
Do you know that all students
in China perform eye protection
exercises twice a day during school
time?
Do you know that China has
seven dialects and people cannot understand one another even
within the same dialect area? By
the way, that’s why Mandarin is so
popular in China.
All of these questions can be
answered by the Chinese students
around you.

Cretin-Derham Hall is proud to
announce that junior Maria Neuzil
earned a top composite score of 36
on a recent ACT test, as did junior
Anna Kalkman, who aced the test in
her sophomore year. Nationally, while
the actual number of students earning
a composite score of 36 varies from
year to year, on average, less than
one-tenth of one percent of students
who take the ACT earns the top
score. For example, of the 1.8 million
ACT test takers in the high school
Class of 2013, only 1,162 students
earned a composite score of 36.
ACT test scores are accepted by
all major U.S. four-year colleges and
universities, and exceptional scores
of 36 provide colleges with evidence
of student readiness for the academic
rigors that lie ahead.
Maria, who hails from Nativity of
Our Lord Grade School in St. Paul,
is the daughter of Mark Neuzil and
Amy Kuebelbeck.
Anna, who hails from Faithful
Shepherd Catholic School in Eagan,
is the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Kalkman.

Principal’s Letter
Dear CDH Community,
The last few weeks have seen
record cold snaps, some of which
have resulted in school closings all
around the state, including here at
CDH. So it is gratifying to know
that many of the activities that help
make CDH so unique went off as
planned. These activities included
RaiderRama, Jumpstart Your Future
Day, Justice Week, Empty Bowls,
the JROTC Upper Midwest Challenge, the SEC Music Festival, the
Father/Son Banquet, the Theater
Department’s winter production of
The Bluest Eye---and these were the
events just in February as of press
time. These activities are in addition
to the excellent education our students receive in the classroom. Our
teachers didn’t miss a beat!
We are all enriched by both
the curricular and co-curricular
activities we enjoy at CretinDerham Hall. They represent the
hard work, dedication and commitment of our faculty and staff,
our students, and our parents.
Everyone in our community puts
forth considerable time and effort
to live out the mission and values
of our school, and for that we are

Join Us for
Taizé Prayer
Please join us on Monday, March
31, 2014, 7:00 p.m. in the James and
Julie Woulfe Activity Center (Field
House) at CDH. Please use the
entrances on Albert Street.
This prayer form comes from an
ecumenical community in Taizé,
France. It is contemplative in nature,
filled with musical mantras, litanies,
prayer, intercession and silence.
Taizé Prayer has become popular in
parishes and other communities of
faith in the United States and other
parts of North America.
CDH faculty and students, as
well as musicians from the greater
Twin Cities area, will lead the
prayer.
The event is free and open to the
public. A reception will follow.
MLK Celebration
On January 17, 2014, CretinDerham Hall hosted Spoken Word
Artist Micah Bournes to the Field
House at CDH as part of the school’s
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr., celebration.
Music was provided by music
minister William Wesley from Living
Word Church and Outreach Ministries
Micah Bournes, pictured with students Teriq Massie and Maya Clark,
was raised in the hip hop culture of
Long Beach, California. He received
his BA degree in media communications from Moody Bible Institute in
Chicago. During college, he began
writing and performing music and
poetry. Though he writes creatively

in many contexts, he is most known
for spoken word poetry. He frequently performs at colleges, conferences, and coffee shops across North
America, and has partnered with
various non-profit organizations,
most significantly with World Relief.
He challenged students at CDH to
live to their fullest potential.
Faculty Corner
Welcome Jesse Cusick who was the long
term sub for English teacher Kevin Lally
while he was on medical leave. In Tri III,
Jesse is returning as the long term sub for
Values Symposium teacher Susan VaughnFier who will be on sabbatical.
Congratulations to social studies teacher Sonya Travanty and her
husband, Michael, on the birth of
their daughter, Mary Alice (Maisy),
on January 20, 2014. Social studies
teacher Reba Bisciglia is the long
term sub for Sonya while she is on
maternity leave.
Markie Crosby will be subbing for Spanish teacher Becki Medellin who will also be
on sabbatical in Tri III.
Samantha Zook will be student teaching with math teachers Jeff Rudi and Toni
Sternhagen until early May.
Support the March Food Drive!
The Service Committee of the
Student Council is sponsoring our
Annual Food Drive in March. The
food drive starts on Monday, March
17, and runs through Friday, March
29. Food will be collected through
the homerooms, and our goal is for
each homeroom to fill at least four
grocery bags of food. That would
give us more than 200 grocery bags
of food to donate! We will also hold a
daily bake sale to raise much needed
money for the food shelves.
The donations will all go to the
Neighborhood House in St. Paul.
Neighborhood House operates two
food shelves—one in the Wellstone
Center on Saint Paul’s West Side,
and the second in Sibley Manor in
Highland Park (Francis Basket). The
Wellstone Center Food Shelf distributes more than 2,500 pounds of food
daily to more than 10,000 households
annually. Francis Basket Food Shelf
(in Sibley Manor) is the only food
shelf in Highland Park, and it addresses a critical need in the community. Fifteen hundred individuals
use Francis Basket each year. Fifty
percent of those served by both food
shelves are children.

Junior Claire Seng took a “selfie”

F. Scott Fitzgerald. Claire, a student in
Mamie Fabel’s United States Literature class, was reading Fitzgerald’s
novel, The Great Gatsby, in class. She
earned extra credit by visiting the statue
located in Rice Park in downtown St.
Paul.

Guatemala
In the wee hours of November 22,
2013, I began the trip of the lifetime
with a close-knit group of people.
Connor Williams, Hanna Hamilton, Will Kuenster, Matthew Thul,
Nicholas Reding, Devon Robinson,
Laura Aanonsen, Makinzy Casper,
Olivia Kuncio, Stephen Maxam,
Michael Panetta, Mr. Peter Watkins, and Ms. Ariana Lowther and I
were participants for ten days of lifechanging experiences. On the shores
of Lake Atitlán and in the shadow of
a volcano of the same name lies the
rural town of San Lucas Toliman.
The mountains and the lake are only
outshined by the people who live near
them. We were there to work for the
San Lucas Mission, which is run by
the Diocese of New Ulm. They have
many programs running at any time
to improve the quality of life for the
poorest of the poor.
One day, after what Guatemalans
would call a short day of processing

youth group to play soccer. No one
kept an official score, but I am here

of ability, we were all invited to join
them at the house of a member of the
group for the rosary. The language
barrier was shattered, and we were
all together to take a serious break
after the day. It was something I will
never forget. As we all left the house

Congratulations to senior Erin
Goodson who earned the Girl Scouts
of America highest honor—the Gold
Award—in ceremonies conducted
at Nativity of Our Lord in January
2014. Erin’s Gold Award project addressed literacy and involved creating
a reading corner in the lobby of the
Lundstrum Center for Performing
Arts in North Minneapolis. Erin is
pictured with several younger Girl
Scouts who attended the Gold Award
ceremony in her honor.

together, people began peeling off to
go their separate ways. It was like we
had all been friends from the start.
It was all much more than a learning experience. I experienced things
in Guatemala that cannot happen
anywhere else in the world. I would
recommend the trip to anyone!

Congratulations to junior Tristan
Anderson who competed in a December 2013 US Power Lifting
Association tournament and set an
American record for 16 and 17-yearolds squatting 501 pounds.
SOA Trip
I went on the School of Americas
trip to Fort Benning, Georgia. The
purpose of the march is to peacefully close down the School of the
Americas. It was a very eye opening
experience.
The trip began with a 22-hour bus
ride. At first I was really dreading the
bus ride, because I sometimes get car
sick, but as soon as people started to
board the bus I was intrigued. The
bus was filled with CDH students
and students from St. Catherine’s
University, the University of St.
Thomas, the University of Minnesota, St. Joseph Workers, and the
sponsors of the bus, the Veterans for
Peace. It was quite a diverse group,
and we all had our own stories and
reasons for going on the trip. Once
we started on our way the Veterans
for Peace had each of us go up and
introduce ourselves in front of the
bus. There were people on our bus
who have being going down to Fort
Benning for several years, and others
like me who were new to the trip.
There were several people who
have been arrested for civil disobedience; crossing the line at Fort Benning without permission is illegal,
and some people crossed the line to
make a statement.
Once we arrived at the gates of
Fort Benning, I was amazed. I knew
there would be law enforcement officers present, but I was not expecting
them to block the entrance or to be
standing around the perimeter of the
rally. They had dogs and were riding
four wheelers, zipping back and forth
behind the fence that kept us separate
from them.
Once I passed the barriers, I
entered a whole new world. Along
the edges of the road were different
stands and stalls representing different justice issues, places to buy

performing, and groups that supported the SOA Watch. At the end of the
road there was a stage where people
were performing songs, dance and
written word. Survivors from countries who have been affected by the
military members who were trained
at SOA told us their stores on stage
too. Behind the stage was the entrance to Fort Benning where a fence
was erected to keep people out.
The next day I got up early to
march down to the gates with the
Veterans for Peace. Once we started
marching I chatted with a man who
was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was telling me the stories about
his training, and how he did things
that he was not proud of while in the
service. While we were walking we
were escorted by police. They weren’t
there to protect us, however. They
were there to make sure we didn’t do
anything bad.
Once we got to the gates we
started to organize into the groups
we would walk with during the march.
The people on stage announced that
they needed more volunteers to be
mourners. So, naturally being the person that I am, I volunteered. Some of
my friends who came on the trip joined
me too.
To be a mourner you have to dress in
all black and paint your face white with
red tears. We carried makeshift coffins and were in the beginning on the
march. Once we made it to the front
gate we mourners laid on the ground
to represent all of the people who have
died because of SOA. Eventually, the
gate was covered with white crosses
that had the names of the people who
have been killed.
Being a part of the mourners was really an experience I will not forget. This
trip has opened my eyes to unnecessary
violence and has made me a big advocate for peace and nonviolence.

Mother-Daughter
Luncheon
The annual Mother-Daughter
Luncheon was held on November 10,
2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in
St. Paul. More than 600 people enjoyed delicious food, great company,
and arti­san boutique shopping, as
well as a slideshow of CDH seniors
with their mothers/guardians. Thank
you to chairs Beth Leonidas, Vicky
Van Roy, Dana Bruce, Katie Shaw,
and the Parents’ Association for hosting this wonderful event.
Father-Daughter Dinner
Dance
This year’s Father-Daughter
Din­ner Dance was held on Jan­uary
25, 2014, at the Crowne Plaza in
St. Paul. Nearly 700 girls and their
fathers/special guests danced the
night away in the Minnesota Grand
Ballroom! It was a memorable night
of fun, food, social­izing with friends,
and dancing by all!
Father-Son Banquet
At press time, the Father-Son
Banquet is scheduled for February 23,
2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in
the CDH Field House. CDH boys
and their fathers or other significant
males in their lives (grandfathers,
uncles, brothers or friends) will begin
the evening with a social hour followed by a buffet catered by Tinucci’s.
Following dinner, the guest speaker
will be University of Minnesota head
football coach Jerry Kill. Kill was
named head coach of the U of M
football program in 2010. He arrived
from Northern Illinois with a plan to
rebuild the U of M program, both on

the field and in the classroom, and, in
year three, his players have achieved
some impressive academic achievement. He has also guided the team to
an 8-5 record and a return trip to a
bowl game. Under Coach Kill’s leadership, the team has endured many
challenges (including Coach Kill’s
leave of absence during a portion of
this past season to better manage his
epilepsy), but these challenges have
shaped the character of the players
and solidified the team’s resolve to be
“relentless” in their pursuit of success
on and off the field.
Faculty-Staff Appreciation
The Faculty-Staff Appreciation
Committee held its Fall Buffet on
November 20, 2013. The buffet is
held twice a year to celebrate and
show our gratitude for our out­
standing teachers and staff at CDH.
This is also a great opportunity for
teachers and staff to come together
as a community and share a meal - or
two. Autumn Harvest was the theme
for this buffet and was enhanced
by fall decorations throughout the
teachers’ lounge. More than 80 parent volunteers contributed breakfast
and lunch items for 150 faculty and
staff. Our volunteers/chefs offered
up a wonderful assortment of foods,
including fresh baked caramel rolls,
wonderful egg bakes, roasted vegetables, pulled pork, and as always many
yummy desserts! We also received
generous donations from local restaurants, including Skinner’s, DeGidio’s, Southern Style Catering, and
Claddagh Coffee. We had enough
food that the teachers and staff had
leftovers for a couple of days! Thank
you to all the volunteers who brought
in food and beverages and to those
who gave their time serving and
cleaning on one of the four serving
shifts. We could not do this without
our special volunteers! Last, but by
no means least, a huge thank you
to the CDH maintenance staff.

From the College Counselors
On January 24, 2014, all junior
students participated in Jumpstart
Your Future Day at CDH. Students
spent the entire school day learning
about different aspects of the college
search process, including sessions on
finding a good college fit, financial
aid, college testing, writing college
essays, communicating with admissions representatives, and what to
expect in college. All juniors were
also registered for accounts on the
Naviance Family Connection which
is a web-based college search and
application management system.
English teachers Sheila MalonePovolny and Steven Tacheny spent
the day teaching about essay writing. We were fortunate to have many
college admissions professionals from
colleges and universities near and far
participate in this day. The CDH
Post-Secondary Planning Committee
of the Parents’ Association and many
parent volunteers all pitched in to
help. Thank you so much!

Band
Band events after Christmas
included preparing for the Suburban
East Conference (SEC) Music Festival, providing music for Empty Bowls
and the Winter Concert. The Band
also supported the Girls and Boys
Basketball and Hockey teams by providing pep band for several games.
Preparations, musical and otherwise, are also being finalized for the
band trip to Orlando scheduled for
March 6-10, 2014. Performances
include a Band Festival and a joint
concert with the local New Horizons
Band, as well as a trip to Disney and
to the beach. Look for more details in

Giving the gift of theater is
certainly one of the most rewarding aspects of our work at CretinDerham Hall. The children’s play,
which performed right before Christmas, brought in audiences of young
children to the Lillian Theater, some
of whom experienced theater for
the first time. To see the joy on the
young children’s faces and to hear
their laughter is a priceless gift to our
CDH actors and technicians. Congratulations to the cast and crew of
The Phantom Tollbooth who worked
hard to create this gift for their young
audiences. On December 11 and 12,
2013, busloads of children from Nativity of our Lord, Highland Catholic, St. Peter Claver, Community of
Saints, St. Mark’s and Holy Spirit
filled our theater and brought the joy
of Christmas to our community a
little early.
The winter Black Box show was
based on the moving novel by Nobel
and Pulitzer Prize winner Toni Morrison. The Bluest Eye is a tragic story
about the life of a young black girl in
1940’s. The main character, Pecola
Breedlove, is an innocent 12-year-old
who wants nothing but to be loved.
Instead, she faces constant ridicule
and abuse. She blames her dark skin
and prays for blue eyes, certain that
love will follow.
Directing the show has been a
life-altering experience. The rich
and powerful language, as well as the
complexity of the topic, has given the
cast a chance to have strong conversations. We hope the community
embraces the opportunity to examine deep and difficult issues of race,
class, and violence. Even though the
play is heavy in content, the students
have skillfully developed characters

that are loveable and believable. The
students believe it is a story to which
every teenager will be able to relate.
Finally, the audition sign up sheets
have been posted, and students are
also preparing for our final show of
the season, the classic Rodger’s and
Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! So, this
verifies to everyone in the Theater
Department that spring will actually
be coming.

Empty Bowls 2014
“Give a man (or woman) a fish and
you feed him (her) for a day. Teach a
man (or woman) to fish and you feed
him(or her) for a lifetime.” It is this
conviction that guides the work of
Heifer International and inspires so
many to support our annual Empty
Bowls event. Though we at CDH
may not teach others to fish, we can
provide the resources so that others
can.
February 12, 2014, marked our 12th
Empty Bowls at CDH! Empty Bowls
is held annually during Justice Week,
which this year focused on mental
health. We are grateful for all those
who have supported Empty Bowls,
especially our soup, bread, bowl and
auction donors, as well as those who
provide direct financial donations.
Habitat for Humanity
What do Twin Cities Habitat for
Humanity and a polar vortex have
in common? Both remind us of the
importance of a warm, safe home!
CDH continues our partnership with
Habitat for Humanity in working

together to provide families throughout the Twin Cities with safe, quality,
warm, affordable housing. Annually,
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity constructs more than 50 homes,
but receives more than 800 applications. “Getting families into a single,
stable home leads to better education
outcomes, fewer dropouts, healthier
kids, increased job prospects, more
community engagement, and safer
neighborhoods,” according to Habitat
website at www.tchabitat.org. The
need is great, and let us each respond
as best we can. May one day all families know the blessing of truly having
a place to call home.

JROTC
As always, we have been busy in
JROTC over the winter months. Our
new Diamond Officers have been
active in leading the Raider Brigade.
Weekly labs have focused on the
Cadet Challenge, our annual physical
fitness evaluation, and the Platoon
Drill Competition. Every cadet has
participated in the Cadet Challenge
to their full ability. The Platoon
Competition gives seniors the chance
to train their units, and juniors the
responsibility of leading their cadets
on the drill floor. Results are pending, but the field is strong. Diamond
Officers have begun their projects;
each volunteers to lead a more complex activity that either improves the
Brigade or completes a key task for
our program.
Cold or snowy weather doesn’t
keep our teams from competing. The
Color Guard has performed for the
varsity Wrestling team, and the Boys
and Girls Basketball teams. In addition to competing at the Washington
Drill Meet and UMJC, the team of

traveled to Purdue University to compete in their annual drill event. Flight
Club has been busy, touring the Delta
maintenance facility, the 133rd Air
Wing’s C-130 simulator, and the
Minnesota Air National Guard Museum. The Rifle Team has done very
well in multiple air rifle meets and
competed against teams during the
Upper Midwest JROTC Challenge,
as well as additional meets scheduled
throughout February, March, and
April.
The Orienteering Team began its
preseason warm-ups by participating
in the Minnesota Orienteering Club’s
Winter Score-O Meet at Afton State
Park on January 18. The competitive
season begins on April 12 whether
the snow is gone or not!
Honor Guard, as always, represented CDH well at the President’s
Advisory Council luncheon, alumni
funerals, and other ceremonies. Our
cadets have volunteered to help with
testing, Jumpstart, and several other
school events. The Honor Guard will
also be assisting with the Father/Son
Banquet and the Retired NFL Players Association, Minnesota Chapter’s
auction during the month of February.
It is exciting to report our JROTC
Academic Bowl Team, consisting of
juniors Emma Gutzmann and Rosemary Arends, along with sophomores
Dan Johnson and Joseph Schroeder,
and ninth grader Luca Gonzalez,
has advanced to the second round of
the competition. Our team competed
against more than 150 schools in our
region. By press time, we will have
completed our 24th Annual Upper
Midwest JROTC Challenge. Eleven
teams are scheduled to compete with
more than 300 students representing
their schools. Every member of the
Cadet Corps will help in some way as
our Diamond Officers plan, prepare,
and supervise this complex event.

Athletics
This year Cretin-Derham Hall
celebrates a special 2014 Winter
Olympics. Ryan McDonagh ‘07 was
selected as a member of the Men’s
USA Olympic Team. McDonagh
is a defensive player for the New
York Rangers and was a member of
the 2006 Boys State Hockey Championship team. In 2007, Ryan was
named Mr. Hockey. Ryan joins a
distinguished group of alumni/ae
who have qualified for the Olympics,
including Bob Paradise ’62 and Jack
Dale ’63 who both competed on
the men’s hockey team in the 1968
Olympics in Grenoble, France; Patsy
Ann Buck Halvorsen ’49 who was an
alternate in figure skating in the 1952
Olympics in Oslo, Norway; Kolleen
Casey Shields ’77 who competed as
a gymnast in the 1976 Olympics in
Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and Sara
Reiling Hildebrand ‘98 who competed in diving in the 2000 Olympic
games in Sydney, Australia, and again
in the 2004 Olympics in Athens,
Greece.
At press time Boys Basketball has
a 16-3 overall record and 11-1 in the
SEC. The Raiders are led by a balanced attack of players: juniors Sam
Neumann, 22.5 ppg; Joe Rosga, 19
ppg; and Donnell Greshman, 12.7
ppg; and seniors Michael Hannon,
9 ppg and George Hottinger, 7 ppg.
The team is averaging 85 points
per game with their up tempo offense and pressure defense. Section
3AAAA competition begins the end
of February, and the Raiders will see
strong competition from Apple Valley, East Ridge, and Rosemount.
The Girls Hockey team is having
a fun and successful season, led by our
four seniors: Natalie Kelly, Rachel
Seibel, Giselle Rogers, and Angela
Messer. Highlights of the season
include finishing in the top three
of the Suburban East Conference
and ending the conference season
with a 9-1 record at home. Junior
Paige Voight has led the way offensively along with ninth grader Jordan
Hansen and junior Annie Boeckers.
The team defense has been outstanding, led by junior goaltender Emma
May. Other defenders making big
contributions are junior Anna Fobbe,
junior Sheala Osborne, sophomore
Mackenzie Molnar, and ninth grader
Bree Osborne.
At press time, the CDH Dance
team hopes to advance to the State
Meet in jazz. At the Suburban East
Conference final meet, seniors Kelsey
Wroble, Bridget Goldenstein, and
Ellie Strafelda were named All-Conference, and junior Danielle Perra
received Honorable Mention honors.
The dancers have great motivation to
finish the season strong after coming off a successful Conference finish
and standing at the Farmington
High School Invitational, where they
placed 2nd overall in Jazz.
The Boys Hockey team is in a
tight race for the Suburban East title.
At press time, CDH holds a slim lead
to repeat as Conference Champs. The
Raiders were invited to play in the
Hockey City Classic outdoor game
at TCF Bank Stadium in January. It
was a great night for outdoor hockey,
and the Raiders beat rival White Bear
Lake, 3-1, for the win. The team is
led by senior captain Derek Olmschenk on defense, a couple of superb
goalies in senior Alex Bailey and
junior Trent Jancze, and top scorers
in juniors Nick Reis and Bret Huebner. Section competition will begin
in late February, and the Raiders are
in a good position for a high seed
after beating Eagan and St. Thomas
Academy.
Heard in the Halls
The Gymnastics team has had
a strong Conference season and is
ranked 3rd in Class 4AA according to
the Minnesota High School Coaches
Association. The team is led by senior
captain Becca Wilcox. Wilcox is
currently ranked 3rd in the State on
Vault and 9th overall according to
the Minnesota State High School
league website. Other strong competitors include varsity sophomores
Katie Berthiaume and Michelle
Trumble, and 2013 state competitor,
sophomore Jessie Griener. All three
student-athletes have competed in
every varsity meet in the 2013-2014
season.
The Boys Swimming and Diving
team is well into the heart of its season. The team was 3rd at True Team
Sections behind teams from Eagan
and Bloomington Jefferson. The big
news of the season so far is the diving
of sophomore Michael Perra. Michael broke both the 6-Dive and the
11-Dive school records previously
held by Mark Larson ’07. Michael
broke the 6-Dive record at the Dual
Meet against White Bear Lake and
then broke the 11-Dive record four
days later at True Team Sections.
The Girls Basketball team is led
by eight seniors: Maggie Johnson,
Jenna Kleason, Kelly Cullen, Amber
Muetzel, Anne Johnson, Katie
Leininger and Jordyn Alt. Heading
into February, the team has equaled
their eight wins from last season and
have nine remaining regular season
games. In Conference play, the team
is vying to finish in the top half of the
Conference at the end of the season.
Senior Jordyn Alt broke the school
scoring record on February 5 versus

Michael Perra broke the 6-dive school record
with a score of 207.70 in a recent meet
against White Bear Lake. The previous record
was held by Mark Larson ’07 with a score of
202.65.
Edina, scoring her 1522 point. The
record was held by Julie Hamiel ‘93
who was present to honor Jordyn
with the achievement.
The Boys Alpine Ski team is
led by senior Keilan O’Brien, with
strong support from seniors Peter
Nicholson and Stephen Maxam,
and juniors Warren St. George and
Per Peterson. Keilan has taken 1st
place at all four Conference races,
and Warren has secured a 5th place
finish, as well as a 15th and an 18th
place finish in Conference competition. Warren also earned an 11th place
finish at the Welch Village Invitational. The team placed 4th at the
Section Meet, with Keilan O’Brien
finishing 2nd in Sections. Both Keilan
and Warren St. George are advancing to the State Meet as of press
time.

The Girls Alpine Ski team is led
by junior Lucy Franzen with support
from senior Gretta Steiner and ninth
grader Marybeth Schufman. At press
time, Lucy has earned a 21st, 24th, and
36th place finish in the Conference
races.
The Wrestling team is making
great strides towards improvement
this season, and participation has
doubled from two seasons ago. At
press time, the Raiders have already
tied the number of wins from last
season (7), and they have six more
matches left to add to that total. The
team is led by captains Casey Bulmer, Jack Gainer, Matthew Boncich,
and Mason Rostad. Individuals who
have posted winning records so far
this season are Matthew Boncich,
Casey Bulmer, Jack Gainer, Josh
Goldberg, Jordan Grovum, Casey
Malone-Povolny, Mason Rostad,
and Logan Smith. The following are
the top team leaders in statistical categories: Takedowns: Josh Goldberg
(33), Matthew Boncich (32), and
Casey Malone-Povolny (28); Near
Fall: Josh Goldberg (45), Campbell
Wozniak (31), and Austin Miller
(18); Total Match Points: Josh Goldberg (144), Matthew Boncich (143),
Jack Gallaher (116); Pins: Josh
