FROM THE CEO
Falls Creek - Happy
Holidays
A
gain, the resort is bustling with
activity as school holiday travellers
begin to settle in for the break,
taking advantage of the amazing work Falls
Creek Ski Lifts have done around making,
retaining and curating the snow product.
Huge congratulations and a big thanks to
Francis and his team.
Riding the lifts on the weekend and
chatting to the many boarders and skiers,
there was a tremendous vibe from all guests.
There were plenty of smiles beaming and
terrific compliments about the resort. There
were a lot of first timers to Falls Creek, and
more encouragingly all were having a great
time and nearly everyone spoken to have
booked for another trip in August!
As promised, Falls Creek kicked off
another big school holiday period with the
return of the weekly Street Party at Falls
Creek Central.
Now in its sophomore year, the Street Party
proved a massive hit in 2014 with loads of
visitors and locals stopping in each Tuesday
night to join in the fun. In launching this

year’s first Street Party, over 60 guests joined
regular host Samara the tiger and special
guest Pete the Snow Dragon - a surprise
addition on the dance floor. Pete will be a
regular addition each week and add another
level of fun and excitement for the little
ones (and some of the big ones too). With
live music, more activities and more prizes
on offer each week, Tuesday nights at Falls
Creek are set to be Party Central!
Special thanks goes out to Oishii Go and
Snonuts Donuts for their tasty samples
to go with everyone’s favourite of toasted
marshmallows by the fire pits. Dederang
Mount Beauty Football Club also brought
the fun to the proceedings with footballs
and a handball target providing the basis for
some great prize giveaways including Bollé
goggles and the weekly grand prize of a brand
new Kigu.me onesie (perfect for September’s
Onesie Weekend!) Last but not least, an extra
special thanks goes out to Feathertop Lodge’s
own Ian Rushton on guitar in providing the
grooves for the evening.
The Street party is on every Tuesday
evening in July and August from 4pm to
6pm at Falls Creek Central - just outside

THE ACTIVITY CENTRE
More For Your Holiday
D
uring the course of this winter,
like many of the previous seasons,
this paper will bring to you, the
visitor and the village resident (staff and
management alike) a list of the great things
we can take advantage while we are here.
A slight change in the way activities are
booked is that now you can make a booking
with any of the staff in the Falls Creek Sports
shops - either at the QT shop, or the Village
Bowl shop. This makes it easier for customers,
and if you’re not sure, phone the Activities
Hotline 1800 204 424 where you will always
get an answer during business hours.
As this paper is being prepared for the press,
it is surely estimated that the most commonly
accessed website is the BOM. I was on it last
night - and again this morning - as is everyone
else. There are flurries in the wind, - but
a good dump would be the answer to our
dreams. Congratulations to our snow-making
team. They’re definitely earning their keep
- and keeping us going at this stage.
One of the things we can be sure of is that
the team in this resort are bending over
backwards to keep our guests happy - and
provide activity. So let’s have a look at what
there is to do outside of skiing and boarding.
Mountain Bikes
Damian and the team at the SnowRider
Rental shop in the Village Bowl (at the
Falls Creek Hotel) have brought up some
of their quality dual suspension mountain
bikes and these are available for hire.
Several of the mountain bike tracks are still
able to be ridden - or you can just tour the

roads around the area.
The guys will very soon also have some ‘fat
bikes’ which can be used on snow as well
as the normal stuff. If you would like to
check them out, phone 03 5758 3819, or
call into the shop in the Village Bowl. (See
Advert, Page Four). •
Kids Activities
The team at Falls Creek Resort Management,
who do a great job with the Kids Club
activities during the Xmas/January period,
have swung into action and are providing
kids activities as and when they can.
This last week they were able to provide
Arts & Crafts sessions in the morning
and some outdoor games in the afternoon.
Check with Resort Management on 03
5758 1200 for further activities and times.
Another activity is the Free Cinema - in the
Board Room at St Falls. Last week it was
run Monday and Friday afternoon. Once
again, check with Resort Management on
03 5758 1200. •
A Good Walk
Without any natural snow cover, Resort
Management have opened the Bogong High
Plains Road out to the Rocky Valley Dam wall
- where it remains locked. But guests can drive
to this area, park the car and go for a walk.
The track to Roper’s Lookout starts on the
other (eastern) side of the Dam wall. It follows
the Roper’s Lookout aqueduct for about 1.5km

before climbing steeply to bring you out at the
lookout where you get great views back across
to Falls Creek, Rocky Valley dam and the
plains to the south and west in general. All up
the walk is about 5km return. •
Tuesday Street Party
Introduced a couple of seasons back, the
idea of a street party is simply to provide an
informal opportunity for visitors to join with
staff and have a bit of a chat. There might be
a bit of story-telling and we may even find a
marshmallow to toast over the open fire.
During much of a person’s visit to Falls,
most of the contact with the team is at the
ticket purchase, loading a lift, receiving
coaching from an instructor and buying
a meal or a beer over the bar. Having
the opportunity for a casual, informal
exchange between guests and staff can only
be a good thing! Every Tuesday evening

Fireworks will kick off at 8pm.
While they are visible from most places
around the mountain, the best spot to enjoy
the display is in front of the Frying Pan.
And if you’re lucky Anthony O’Shea, from

sparkly glasses that add another dimension
to watching the fireworks. Enjoy! •
Pete the Snowdragon
Our very own Pete the Snow Dragon loves
to ski around the resort, waving hello and
getting high fives from everyone on the
slopes. Pete the Snow Dragon makes guest
appearances at the Falls Creek Snowsports
School, clapping and high fiving the kids
as they progress their skills.
During this quiet period, Pete is doing his
best to keep everyone entertained.
If you see Pete on the slopes or in the

BOGONG
In the windswept Southern Mountains out
by Bogong’s brow
Is a land that’s never felt the rip of tractor
nor of plough
The flowers and native grasses stretch from
sky to sky
Unmarred by Man’s destruction – farming
passed it by.
And then the spring-time melts the snows,
and the swollen brooks are gushing
Into creeks and mighty rivers – to the
Murray they go rushing
Daisies are a carpet, Black Cockies screech
on by
The parrokeets are dashing through the
crystal of the sky.
For the raging winter blizzards stayed the
axe and chain
And spared the Bogong High Plains from
the awful bloody pain
Of the clearing and the torching and the
weeds and salt and dust
Of the foreign crops a-growing, filled with
mites and rust.
The seasons keep on rolling, but the High
Plains stay the same
Through the scorching summer days to the
icy winter rain
People seldom visit, unless it’s peace they
seek
And lovers swear their wedding vows out
by Watchbed Creek.

Now mortals come and go in the twinkling
of an eye
It only takes a moment beneath the mountain sky
But the snow gums grow forever and the
granite weathers slow
In the freezing winter winds, beneath the
ice and snow.
Yes the cycle keeps on turning, yet the land
remains the same
Timeless and eternal, impossible to maim
And when I’ve shed this mortal coil and
left the din and row
Just leave me for the wild things, out by

DISABLED WINTERSPORT AUSTRALIA
Real Good Guides
W
ell what a way for Disabled
Wintersport Australia (DWA) to
kick off our programs for the year.
Last weekend at Falls Creek (27th-28th June)
we had just over twenty DWA crew on the snow
Saturday with a new group of fifteen people
being trained up as Adaptive Snowsports Guides,
plus two members Glen Wood & Gary Connor
skiing with their families. It is great to see the
progression of skiers such a Glen and Gary that
were first re-introduced to the snow through
DWA’s camps programs and now they are
organising their own time on the snow. These
two guys are keen skiers, Gary owns a Nissin
sit-ski and Glen has one on the way. Having
this equipment produces a fabulous level of
independence on the snow - which we love to
see. A special thank-you to Catherine Tinlin for
travelling up to guide for Glen on Saturday.
The new guide training certificate program
was a great success this weekend which
attracted an awesome group of people. We
can now welcome fifteen new guides to
the organisation, with two of them already
looking to book in for the Advanced Guide
Camp this coming weekend.
The DWA Trainers were very impressed with
the enthusiasm and engagement shown by
the new guides. The Falls Creek staff such
as, Guest Services, Ski Patrol and the Lift
attendants were a great help as always, thank
you all for your patience with the new guides
who were learning to load and unload adaptive
equipment on the chair lifts. Special thanks
go out to Matt O’Keeffe, Ski Patrol Director
at Falls Creek, Titus Gius, Lara Demopoulos
and Karl Nowakowski from Falls Creek Ski Lifts
Snowsports School. These four busy people made
themselves available on Saturday at 12noon,
to come and have a talk to New Guide group
and trainers about the support that the Falls
Creek mountain staff offers DWA. This support
could be in the event of an accident; needing
on-snow assistance from Ski Patrol; private
lessons for DWA members from Snowsports
School with their Adaptive Instructors, or the
constant support from the lift attendants - as
working with adaptive equipment can be tricky,
especially when chair lifts are involved. Disabled
Wintersport Australia really appreciates the
support that everyone gives give us!
This weekend coming up (4th and 5th
July) we have the DWA Advanced Guide
Camp. This is where some of our current
guides return to Falls Creek to hone, and
broaden their Adaptive Guiding skills. We

always look forward to this camp as it’s not
often we have so many guides up on the one
weekend. If you want to see what we get up
to in our training camps look out for the
DWA Guide jackets this weekend on snow.

CROSS COUNTRY NEWS
Interview
F
or the past few seasons the Australian
team has not had a full-time head
coach working with athletes. Although
Australia has many wonderful and supportive
grass roots clubs like the Birkebeiner Nordic
Ski Club, it lacks professional racing teams
and high-level clubs.
Many athletes instead found coaching
support internationally, working with
professional teams and competing on those
country’s national circuits. Two went to
Sweden, one went to Germany and five
went to America while a few remained
back in Australia, training with personal
coaches at home.
This Week recently caught up with
Casey Wright who spent her first season
in Sun Valley, Idaho as a member of the
Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation
Café
ALL DAY DINING
including breakfast
Open Daily 7am - 9pm
(SVSEF), which she found to be a brilliant
experience. “I could not recommend
SVSEF more highly. The coaching staff
are fantastic and the training atmosphere
makes you feel part of the awesome team.”
Casey’s relationship with the American club
began after Tom Smith, a SVSEF coach,
was brought out by the Birkebeiner Nordic
Ski Club to coach in Australia last season.
In the US Casey found herself training
with the elite women’s team - more
commonly known as the Gold Team - and
the post graduate team (the team below the
Gold team). Interestingly, the best thing
Casey learnt wasn’t some technique tip or
ways to get better fitness. Instead it was
all about the team. “The most important
lesson I learned was that cross-country
skiing is not an individual sport. Your team
is behind you every step of the way, as
you are with them. They will help you get
over any lows and help you celebrate the
highs!!” Casey was lucky enough to stay at
the Adicof’s family home while living in
Sun Valley. Their son, Jake Adicof was an
athlete in the Sochi Paralympic Games.
In some of the first races of the season at
the US Super Tour, Casey qualified in
the top 30 in a sprint race in Bozeman,
Montana. A month later at US Nationals
in Houghton, Michigan, Casey overcame
challenging conditions to qualify into the
top 30 of the Women’s Classic sprint again,
showing that her new sprinting level wasn’t
just a lucky day. “It was very exciting! It
was well above anything that I expected I
could achieve. The heats were a bit nerve
racking, but I knew that I needed to go
out hard and stay with the pack as long as
possible to have any chance to progress on.”
Racing really started to heat up for Casey
in 2014 when she shocked the field at the
Australian National Championships in Falls
Creek, qualifying second. With such a strong
result she qualified for a spot on the Australia’s
World Championship team, which raced in
Falun, Sweden in February of 2015.
Casey explained that “to make the
Australian podium at the Aus Champs” had
been a goal for the entire Australian season.
With a blasting time trial Casey set herself
for some great racing finishing 4th overall
and coming in as the 3rd Australian and
making that goal. “It was nice to be able
to tick that box last year. In saying that, I
was still very surprised with the result that I
achieved. I finished my time trial knowing
that I had had a good race. I was still doing
my cool down before I got an opportunity
to check the results, and when I finally got
to look at them I was blown away.”
Casey first qualified for the Australian
team in 2012 while studying for year 12.
She had been on a few international trips
with the Australian team but never with
the senior team to a big event like World
Championships. From all accounts Casey
was a welcomed and quality member of
the team. “I really enjoyed travelling with
the senior team. For me, it was exciting
to train, live and race with many athletes
who I have been looking up to since I was
a junior. Going to World Champs was a

goal I set for myself about 12 months in
advance. My main intention was go and
gain as much experience as possible which
would hopefully prepare me for future
world stage races.”
After a bumpy start in the lead up to the
championships, Casey got more than a
small experience when she came third in the
qualification race at the venue the day before
the World Championships started. However
the race wasn’t without incident when on
the last lap she “decided to try sliding on
my face backwards down the course. This
is clearly not the ideal technique used while
skiing, particularly in my most important
race for the season. I definitely got a massive
adrenaline rush following my stack, which
may have been an advantage (not sure).”
Clearly something helped for the racing
because Casey powered to third. “I still
cannot believe that I actually got to stand
on the podium. My goal was to finish in
the top 10, and getting the 3rd place just
put the icing on the cake! It was probably
clear to anyone watching that I had
absolutely no idea what I was doing/ the
process to follow, as Aussies don’t usually
find themselves in these situations.”
Casey went on to have a very successful World
Championships experience. She was selected
for the team sprint with Jessica Yeaton. “I
feel very privileged that I was selected to
compete in the team sprint. I will never forget
the sound of the crowd screaming around
the whole racecourse.” She also finished the
women’s 30km mass start, one of the toughest
races at the Championships. “I was very happy
to finish the race. I still can’t believe how fast
the winners ski. My aim had been to stick
with the pack for as long as possible. It was a
big and steep learning curve, but I am hoping
that these results will act as a bench-mark for
future championships races.”
This year will be Casey’s first full Kangaroo
Hoppet after competing in the Birkebeiner
the last few years. As for her best memories
of skiing at Falls? “Many skis over the top
of Heathy Spur on blue-bird days with good
snow. [They] stick fondly in my mind. For
me this defines skiing at Falls.” •

TIME TO GO RACING
The Snowracer Series
T
he Snowracer Series has replaced
the Interschools Grand Prix
Championships.
This series provides the opportunity for
individuals or school teams to gain valuable
experience through training and competing
on Interschools courses throughout the
season at Falls Creek and Mt Buller.
The Snowracer Series is made up of six events
being conducted at the two mountains.
The series is suitable for skiers and
snowboarders of all ages and levels of ability.
Students compete in divisions based on
school years and may enter any of the events
at any mountain throughout the season.
As well as providing the opportunity for
individuals to train and compete in Alpine and
Snowboard GS, or Skier Cross and Snowboard
Cross during the season, the Snowracer Series
is also ideal for schools wishing to conduct
Interschools training and/or school time trials.
The series are conducted by each Resort’s Race
and Event Department.
The Series Structure
The structure is on a similar format to the
Interschools Snowsports Championships.
Skiers and Snowboarders can compete for
their school as part of team or individual,
based on school divisions. Divisions
include: Div 1 - Years 11 & 12. Div 2
- Years 9 & 10. Div 3 - Years 7 & 8. Div 4
- Year 5 & 6. Div 5 - Year 4 and under.
In Falls Creek, the Snowracer Series also
includes the King of the Mountain Series.
Our Snowracer Series will be held this
weekend - Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th
July, featuring Alpine GS and SBGS.
The next part will be the King of the
Mountain, next weekend, on Saturday
11th July, featuring Slalom or SX/SBX
(depending on snow conditions).
Medals will be awarded to the top 3
placegetters in each division (conditions apply).
Further details locally from Falls Creek
Race and Events department, Ph: 5758

www.vicinterschools.com.au. •
King of the Mountain
The King of the Mountain Series provides
the opportunity for individuals or school
teams to gain valuable experience at the next
level of ski racing in Australia. The King
of the Mountain Series is designed to be
slightly more challenging than interschool’s
level competition and a stepping stone to

competition. Many of our former and
current Olympic athletes have progressed
from interschool’s to SSA and on to
Olympic success; the King of the Mountain
Series will help athletes make that step up.
The KOTM Series comprises seven events
being conducted at Falls Creek, Mt Buller and
Perisher throughout July and August 2015.
This series is suitable for skiers of all ages and
levels of ability who want to test their skills.
Unlike interschool’s competition, athletes
will compete in categories based on age and
year of birth and may enter any of the events
at any mountain throughout the season.
Some resorts will host alpine GS, and Ski
Cross, but all three will host a Parallel
Slalom event which is new to most
interschool’s athletes. As well as providing
the opportunity for individuals to train and
compete, the King of the Mountain Series
is also ideal for schools wishing to conduct
interschool’s training and school time trials.
Our King of the Mountain will be next
weekend, on Saturday 11th July, featuring Slalom
or SX/SBX (depending on snow conditions).
Why Compete in the Series?
Athletes will gain experience in the next step
to take their ski racing career toward Olympic
glory. Top performers will be invited to
take part in SSA Futures which is a Ski and
Snowboard Australia athlete development and
talent identification program.

Congratulations

taps into local knowledge to meet local
environmental challenges and provides
training and experience for local youth.
The graduating group started restoring
areas along the Upper Kiewa River six
months ago, focusing their efforts on weed
control and revegetation.
“This team has treated and removed selected
woody weeds and has planted trees, shrubs
and groundcover in locations managed
by AGL, Parks Victoria and the Alpine
Shire,” said Team Leader of the Mount
Beauty project, Greg Wippell. “They’ve also
identified and treated grey sallow willows in
alpine bogs around Falls Creek.”
The North East Catchment Management
Authority is the project sponsor for the
Upper Kiewa River restoration project,
with Conservation Volunteers Australia
delivering the on-ground component.
Falls Creek Resort Management, Alpine Shire,
Parks Vic, AGL, Upper Kiewa Landcare Group
and the Upper Kiewa Valley Community
Association have supported the project.
The Green Army offers young Australians
aged 17-24 years an opportunity to gain
training and experience in environment
and conservation fields. Participants
develop skills in many areas while
participating in a project that generates
benefits for local communities.
“The Upper Kiewa River restoration project
is a great example of what the Green Army
can achieve. It has delivered great outcomes
for people and the environment,” said Greg.

FALL LINES
Ambulance Subscription
Recently this paper published a regular
item on the smarts of having Ambulance
insurance cover. There were a couple of items
that were missed form the article as your
editor checked with Ambulance Victoria.
Now, should you incur a major injury and
require an Air Ambulance evacuation to
Melbourne, the cost (without Ambulance
cover) would be Falls Creek to the Royal
Melbourne Hospital in the chopper $9946
- and the road ambulance part of the trip if
required would be an extra $1645.
Now, supposing it wasn’t too bad - and you
only had to go to hospital in Albury, the
cost of that road Ambulance trip would
be only $1645. From many folk’s point of
view, that is a lot of money.
The good part is that new membership
figures have just been published and the
cheapest bit of ‘peace of mind’ you can buy
is ambulance membership.
One year for a single person is $41.30 and
a family is $82.60. Three years for a single
person is $123.90 and family is $247.80.
And to be protected for five years, a single
membership is 206.50 and a family is $413.
Either go on line at www.ambulance.vic.
gov.au, or telephone 1800 648 484. •
Congratulations
On behalf of many members of the
community, this paper would offer
sincere best wishes to Leonie and Glenn
Docking on the occasion of their 43
wedding anniversary. Glenn and Leonie
were married at Falls Creek in the snow
in 1972s and featured with photo (of the
happy couple on a snowmobile) on the
front page of the Melbourne Herald. Glenn
and Leonie will traditionally bolt from the
mountain at some stage around this time
and celebrate with a lovely dinner and
night away. Cheers team, for this and many
more - from your mates in Falls Creek. •
The Falls Creek Road
Or, more correctly known as the Bogong
High Plains Road. It begins at the bridge of
over the West Kiewa River at the boundary
of Mount Beauty and Tawonga South.
The road then goes around the roundabout
and heads up the East Kiewa River Valley
past Clover Power station, the Arboretum
and Bogong Village.
After this is crosses the Pretty Valley branch
of the East Kiewa, rounds Junction Spur and
continues past the old Powder Magazine, the
Passing Lane, the old Sawmill Site, around
Sassafras Gully and on to Turnback Creek
- six kilometres from the village. It was here
that skiers used to park and hike the rest of
the way for a holiday in the snow.
The Ticket Box and Howman’s Gap
YMCA Camp are at the 4km mark and
then we reach the village.
Beyond Falls Creek, (when not closed in
winter), the Bogong High Plains Road
opens up to visitors, the wonders of the
high plains in summer. Walks, rides, huts,
fishing and photographic opportunities
abound - all able to be enjoyed in cooler
climes, while enjoying crystal clear air.
About 32km from Falls Creek the road has
descended and joins the Omeo Highway,
beside the Mitta Mitta River at Shannonvale.
Turning left will take you north to Payne’s
Hut, Glen Valley, Glen Wills (and the
infamous cemetery), then Sunnyside and
further north to The Walnuts and Mitta
Mitta with its fabulous Laurel Hotel.
Turning right will take you south over the
Bundarra River, and the Cobungra River at
Anglers Rest (and the well-known Blue Duck),
through Bingo Munjie, past the Omeo Valley
road and into historic Omeo with its fifth
version of the Golden Age Hotel.
Why are we telling you this? Well, this area
is a great area to visit in summer - and we
would like you to come back.
There is another reason for talking about
the Bogong High Plains Road - especially
between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek.
And it is to do with courtesy.
Many locals travel the road on a daily
basis. They are familiar with it and can
drive it comfortably and safely. As a visitor,
who may not be as familiar with the roads
in the area, all that is asked is that, when
another vehicle cruises up behind you, you
find the first of many pull over spots, and
pull over to let the vehicles behind go past.
This costs you precisely two seconds, is the
safest option, and shows your respect for
other road users.
Another thing that becomes immediately
apparent is the litter. For some reason, a
limited number of people think that it is
OK to turf litter out of the car and into
the National Park. This is in fact incorrect.
There is no excuse for chucking rubbish of any form - out of a car. We love our area
and we love our visitors - but no-one likes
rubbish. Enjoy your trip! LOCAL

Toni was offered a new post doing similar
work measuring snow depths and water
flows for the S.E.C’s Kiewa Hydro Electric
Scheme. In 1946 the couple became the
first full time residents of Falls Creek.
Skippy’s introduction to racing came that
year when Toni entered her in the first club
championships held by the Bogong Ski
Club at Rocky Valley. “Up to that stage,”
Skippy wrote, “my skiing was confined to
the practice slopes and it seemed like I had
joined the ranks of ‘no hopers’ - getting
nowhere fast.” With five minutes’ notice
that she was competing in the open slalom
Skippy’s ‘legs went to jelly.’ “I do not
even remember going through the flags
- perhaps I didn’t - still at the end of the
nightmare run I was happy to learn that
the third fastest time was mine. I knew
from then on my goal was to be a racing
skier but did not realise how hard and long
the road was to be and still is.”
Skippy trained with the men from
Bogong Ski Club and in 1949 won both
the Downhill and Combined State
Championship held at Mt Buller. In her
memoirs she recalls that “I could now
understand why Toni had insisted I train
hard. Racing had been fun, as well as an
unforgettable experience. I had felt strong
and managing the rough and ice patches
in the downhill was no trouble to me.
After my second run in the slalom I felt

LOCAL HISTORY
so fresh and fit I was ready to do it all
again.” The following year she was selected
in the Victorian team to compete in New
Zealand.
Summer training involved long hikes on
the Bogong High Plains accompanying
Toni on his rounds of the water races at
weekends training with the team from
Bogong Ski Club “…jogging over the
plains and climbing steep slopes and river
hopping along the upper Kiewa. If the
weather was bad we would practice the art
of tying our feet into skis with the ‘Long
Thong.” Back in those early days safety
bindings were unheard of. The binding of
the day, as far as Toni was concerned, was
unsuitable for his technique of skiing. The
use of the ‘Long thong’ (a 7 foot 2.13m
length of leather) securely held the boot
to the ski, with absolutely no movement.
I remember when I raced at Hotham and
Buller I was conscious of the whispered
jokes about my crazy leather bindings.”
In 1951 the first rope tow was established
in the Falls Creek bowl, but now coached
by Hungarian born Milan Kovacic, Skippy
was training further afield on the slopes
of Mt McKay and Ruined Castle. With
the long climb up two runs was usually
the maximum they achieved. The ski
run down from the Ropers lookout was
also a regular training slope. A highlight

in Skippy’s racing career came in 1953
when Albury Ski Club held an Open
Championship. Competing against the
men in giant slalom and down-hill Skippy
won the event. She wrote “it had never for
a moment occurred to me it was any big
deal racing against the men. Both Toni
and Milan had always insisted I ski with
the men whenever it was possible. John
Wagner and Frank Prihoda, both Czech
Olympic skiers, were both very friendly
and helpful. John Wagner offered me
advice which I gladly accepted ....and I did
manage to win.
Later, John told me, in his experience skiing,
even in Europe he had never known a
woman to win an Open Ski Championship.”
Skippy was then 36 years old. •

his apartment is part of the Alpine
Woodsmoke complex on Bogong
High Plains Road. Ski in off
Wombats Ramble; ski out to Falls Creek
Express. Drive in from the Bogong High
Plains Road, unload and leave your vehicle
secure and dry in the locked up secure
basement carpark - ready for you to load
up and drive out at the end of your stay.
The complex is well maintained, and provides
excellent year-round access. Falls Creek as a
resort is an ideal venue for year round holidays
and relaxation. While the snow provides the
exhilaration of downhill skiing or boarding,
there is also the opportunity of hectares of
snow-covered terrain to explore on skinny skis.
With a picnic back-pack and a camera - you’re
in a world of your own.
Then, summer in Falls Creek and
the Bogong High Plains is something
completely different again. Rolling hills,
cattlemen’s’ huts, acres of wild flowers, trout
streams and lakes and about 12°C cooler on
those hard-to-bear 40°C summer days.
To cater to the fitness freaks, there are great
running and cycling trails and Falls Creek has
and is building some world class mountain
bike trails. And then there are the views!!!
This large, fully furnished first floor apartment
comprises an entrance hall, a fully equipped
modern kitchen, generous dining area
and lounge, open fire place and modern

comfortably accommodate eight adults.
Furnishings and fittings are stylish and of
premium quality. The private basement car

Woodsmoke and the adjacent apartment
building on the same leasehold. Another
important feature is owner controlled
management. Prospective buyers should not
underestimate the importance of this fact.
Tree Tops Two is presently managed within
the Woodsmoke rental pool and detailed
rental information is available upon request.
Management services are provided by
TT&VV Pty Ltd, a company owned and
controlled by the owners of the apartments.
An owner may opt out of the rental pool,
retaining sole use of the apartment, or remain
in the pool. Owners within the rental pool
may select periods for own use, and offer the
apartment for rental at all other times.

cleaning, laundry and general maintenance.
Apartments within the rental pool have mostly
uniform furnishings, fittings and equipment,
which is regularly checked, maintained and
upgraded as required by the manager.

2015 were $21,216.26. Gross rental for
financial year 1 July 2014 to 30 June
