LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDERS
in chips in celebration of his or her Ambassador. Together
and with them, we walk into tonight’s event with $100,000
in hand. Our work is to meet or beat their gift — and so
we will launch our Ten for Ten Chip Challenge during the
live auction. We hope you will stay and help us attain our
objective and help us Beat The CoPilot Bank!
Dear Friends,
It is with great pleasure and no small amount of amazement that we welcome you to the TENTH annual Morgan
Adams Concours d’Elegance.
When we embarked on this journey 10 years ago, Steven
and Brett shared a vision to create an event that was unlike
any other at the time – something that blended their passions for speed, horsepower, and meticulous craftsmanship, and to hang from that framework a unique charity
fundraiser. The evening would draw together like-minded
enthusiasts, philanthropists and families with a child who
faces cancer, and as a community, we would begin to fund
a difference.
The Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance is one of our
signature events, and makes possible much of the work
that we fund. The event would not be able to get off
the ground if it were not for the countless hours of an
exceptional team of people. They give their heart and
soul to making sure this evening runs as smoothly and as
seamlessly as possible, that we have beautiful machines to
share with you, that there is great food to eat and fantastic
auction items to bid on. Without them, we would be in a
very different place, and the growth of this event, which
you see all around you tonight, is possible because of them.
That vision took flight in May of 2003 at Signature Flight
Support. We never looked back — and what a phenomenal
difference has been made.
Tonight, we will have the tremendous honor of sharing
with you the journeys of our Ten Ambassadors. They are
here to represent each year of this event– each year that
you all have helped us fund life-saving research. They are
here so you can see the faces of the work you are a part
of, and so you might glimpse first-hand the impact your
support has made.
Many friends have been gained over the course of the
last 10 years; as the event has grown to encompass wider
and wider circles of people, we have been introduced
to some truly amazing people, all of whom play a role in
the growth of this organization. We count each of you in
that group – thank you for your faith and belief in, and
support of the work we are funding.
Each of our Ambassdors has been affected by research
supported by The Morgan Adams Foundation, and their
amazing stories of battles overcome are what keep us coming into work every day.
Our warmest and most sincere gratitude to each and every
one of you for being with us tonight. Thank you. Please
remember to stay, join in the fun, and as always, Bid High
and Bid Often!
Tonight, we also have the greatest pleasure introducing to
you the CoPilots of tonight’s Ambassadors. Each CoPilot
has made a pre-event commitment of ten thousand dollars

August 25, 2012
Dear 2012 MAF Concours d ‘Elegance Participants and Attendees,
On behalf of the Commissioners of the Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority, as owners and
operators of Centennial Airport, I would like to welcome you to the 10th Celebration of the Morgan
Adams Foundation 2012 Concours d ‘Elegance.
When Joan and Steve, the parents of Morgan Adams, came up with the idea to raise funds for children’s
cancer research in memory of their daughter, the idea of holding an event featuring premier vintage
aircraft and automobiles at Centennial Airport was born. Ten years later, no one, not even the late Brett
Derosier, who was the driver behind this event, could have imagined that the Concours d ‘Elegance
would have grown to become the signature fundraising event at Centennial Airport. More incredibly are
the number of lives that have been saved thanks to your generosity and commitment to children’s cancer
research. Together we “chip” away at this disease with the goal of eliminating it altogether someday.
Thank you again for your support and please enjoy the food donated by our fabulous restaurants, the
exquisite cars, bikes and planes on display, and what will be an unforgettable flight demonstration by
nationally renowned aerobatic performers. Most importantly, please bid and bid often, or simply
donate, but please donate because every dollar helps in saving another child.
Cheers,
Robert P. Olislagers

Newmont Mining
This is Newmont’s 5th year sponsoring the event and their second year as a luxury level
sponsor. Richard O’Brien and Jessica Terlecki have been integral partners in the development of this relationship over the years. Newmont’s continual support of the foundation and our events has helped us in the battle against pediatric cancer.
Centennial Airport
The Morgan Adams Foundation’s Concours d’Elegance has grown into the premier event
at the Centennial Airport. Over the years, the airport authority has been instrumental in
our partnerships with FBOs and we are forever grateful for our relationship with Robert
Olislagers and all of his support.
TAC Air
2012 finds The Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance event hosted by TAC Air. Our long
standing relationship with Dan Bryant has allowed us to put on an exciting event and bring
in such amazing planes. Our thanks go out to everyone at TAC for letting us take over
your space yet again, and for providing assistance to our executive committee on the setup of this event.
CenturyLink
In 2006, CenturyLink (formerly Qwest) partnered with TAC Air to co-host this event for
The Morgan Adams Foundation. This dual partnership has allowed our event to grow into
a larger-scale plane, car and motorcycle show over the years. This expansion helps us draw
larger crowds and inevitably raise more money for pediatric cancer research.
Chubb
This marks Chubb’s 5th year as a sponsor of this event. Their investment in both the event
and the mission of the foundation has been vital to our prosperity. Our partnership has
grown into a prosperous relationship the foundation cherishes deeply and will continue to
be involved in for many years to come.
5280 Magazine
5280, in short, is family. Dan Brogan has been friends of Joan Slaughter and Steven Adams
since before the foundation began. He jumped at the opportunity to contribute time and
resources at our first event and has been helping ever since. The foundation’s personal
relationship with Dan and 5280 is held dear. 5280 initial support has led us to becoming
the foundation we are today.

“chips” And chip-reLAted projects
What ARE these things?
CHIPS are a TECHNOLOGY-BASED method of analyzing the biology of tumor tissue samples.
Using these specially developed MicroArray Chips, the tissue is read by a computer, which is
able to gather genetic information from samples as small as the head of a pin.
This method of data collection and analysis allows a researcher to compare
over 50 thousand genes simultaneously. This allows for a greater and more
rapid determination of the factors which cause tumors to grow.
chips hAve the poWer oF one:
CHIPS help in determining of what types of disease a particular child’s
tumor may consist. This allows doctors to determine a very particular
course of treatment specifically for that child .
chips hoLd the key For MAny:
Compilation of CHIP samples from many patients have enabled
the identification of differing traits in cancer
sub-types. By looking at these genetic errors en masse,
researchers can explore and develop more specifically
targeted treatment options that will become the standard of
care for all children diagnosed with a particular kind of cancer.

The Tenth Morgan Adams Concours D’Elegance
Ten For Ten Chip Challenge
Please Meet our 2012 CoPilots, each of whom have boldly stepped forward to sponsor one of our
Ambassadors for tonight. The copilots have committed, in honor of the child they are sponsoring,
to make a difference in the lives of 10 future children battling cancer, by contributing $10,000 —
10 research chips — specifically to support the Chip Project. So through their generosity, we open
tonight’s event with a Chip Bank of $100,000. Last year our Chip Pledge raised $100,00. This year’s
goal is $250,000, and with this kickoff of $100,000, we look to each of you to help accomplish our
goal. Our objective for The House tonight: To meet or beat the Bank. Together, we are asking you
to help us reach our boldest fundraising goal for The Morgan Adams Concours: $250,000 for the
Chip Project.

Will
DOB: 5/21/2002
Age: 10
Diagnosis: High-grade Glioma
Favorite song: ”Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes
Hobbies: Playing guitar, traveling, and riding his bike
On July 3, 2004, a previously undetected cerebellar brain tumor spontaneously ruptured, leaving Will neurologically devastated. The bleeding damaged the remaining tissue so badly that
diagnosis was difficult. A 2005 MRI revealed that the same ruptured cancer had returned, but
pathologists were unable to make a definitive diagnosis. Soon after, Will began conservative chemotherapy treatment. Unfortunately, by June of 2005, two new tumors had formed. Micro-chip
analysis sponsored by the Morgan Adams Foundation indicated that the only treatment option for
Will’s unique tumors was high-dose chemotherapy and radiation. For the next several months, Dr.
Nick Foreman and his team at Children’s Hospital Colorado successfully guided Will through his
treatment. Since then, and after months of speech, physical, and occupational therapy where he
relearned how to eat, talk, sit, walk, and play, Will’s life has become wonderfully normal! In addition to tormenting his younger brother, he plays guitar, likes to ride a bike, joined a rugby team
and won his fourth grade Spelling Bee!
CHIP ImPaCt:
Data from the MicroArray chip determined the therapy to be used in treating Will’s tumor, which
was successful in spite of his malignant metastatic tumor.

Caitlin
DOB: 12/29/1991
Age: 20
Diagnosis: Grade 4 Medulloblastoma,
Favorite song: “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson
Hobbies: Watching movies, hanging out with friends
Caitlin was an active and energetic 12 year old when she began to notice some vague balance issues
while playing soccer. She saw her pediatrician, who felt the issues were due to her feet growing 2
sizes in a few months. Several months later, her right eye began to turn in. An MRI showed a mass
the size of a walnut. A week later she had brain surgery and the tumor was successfully removed, but
turned out to be malignant and highly aggressive. She started brain and spinal radiation and chemotherapy, but ended up having a toxic reaction to the radiation and was unable to complete the
chemotherapy. After multiple life threatening complications and months of being bedridden, Caitlin
began to improve in May of 2006. She spent that summer attending cancer camps and today she is
a counselor at Camp Wapiyapi. Caitlin missed a year of school, but with the help of tutors, was able
catch up with her schoolwork and graduate with her class. Caitlin had more surgeries to deal with
the effects of radiation. Today she is a happy, healthy, and cancer free young woman who is studying
childhood education at Regis University and dreams of working with kids.
CHIP ImPaCt:
Caitlin’s severe reaction to her radiation treatment has led to a research project that uses SNP chips
to look at DNA repair gene variation, which is called polymorphism. This study will enable future
identification of high-risk patients like Caitlin and will both prevent the disastrous consequences
of radiation treatment, as well as aid in predicting whether or not a patient could be cured with a
reduced amount of therapy. Ongoing MAF support will complete this project.

Aaron
DOB: 7/11/1985
Age: 27
Diagnosis: Germinoma
Favorite song: ”Stand by Me” performed by Prince Royce
Hobbies: Tennis and kayaking
Shortly after finishing his first year at Colorado College, Aaron received a phone call informing him
he had a brain tumor and needed emergency treatment for a cancer known as Germinoma. After
two surgeries, he was sent to Children’s Hospital Colorado for chemotherapy. He was told he had
lost his short-term memory, which was unlikely ever to return. His hopes of finishing college and
attending law school seemed impossible. Remarkably, Dr. Nick Foreman was able to restore Aaron’s
memory using research funded by The Morgan Adams Foundation.
His oncologist referred to Aaron as his “miracle boy” because Aaron was able to return to Colorado College, make up classes in the summer, and graduate on time. Since graduation, Aaron has
worked as a Fellow at the El Pomar and in Washington D.C. as a Public Policy Fellow with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. He has worked in the White House, the Office of Legislative
Affairs, and with former Colorado Congressman John Salazar. He now attends Cooley Law School
in Lansing, Michigan.
CHIP ImPaCt:
MAF supported work into the memory loss associated with intracranial germ cell tumors, which
enabled researchers to realize the importance of rapid initiation of therapy. Aaron presented with
severe loss of memory, but quick commencement of therapy reversed the disorder.

Christian
DOB: 2/25/2002
Age: 10
Diagnosis: Medulloblastoma
Favorite song: “Don’t Stop Believing” by the Glee Cast
Hobbies: Cub Scouts and music
Christian was an active and loving 3-year-old when diagnosed Medulloblastoma on July 15th, 2005.
He was rushed to Children’s Hospital Colorado, where his family was met by Dr. Foreman and Dr.
Handler. Within a few days of diagnosis, Christian underwent an eight-hour surgery to remove the
tumor at the skilled hands of Dr. Handler. He stayed in the hospital for two-and-a-half weeks to recover. His roller coaster ride continued when cancer cells were found during a spinal tap.
Christian underwent a six-week high dose radiation and chemotherapy treatment at University of
Colorado and Children’s Hospital, then repeated a chemotherapy cycle every six weeks.
Today, Christian’s prognosis is very good, thanks to Dr. Foreman and the amazing staff at The Children’s Hospital Colorado. Christian has benefited from the research funded by the Morgan Adams
Foundation. His October 2011 MRI showed no signs of cancer. Christian is a happy, easy-going
10-year-old who loves life and is looking forward to fourth grade. He performs with a children’s choir
and had the privilege of singing a duet during the winter and spring performances. He is a Cub Scout
and has earned his Bear and Wolf badges. He continues to amaze us, and we are so proud of him.
CHIP ImPaCt:
Collaborative collection of chip data, including Colorado Children’s hospital, has enabled researchers
to realize that even children with metastatic disease can be cured with the application of modified
therapy.

Whitney
DOB: 10/27/1992
Age: 19
Diagnosis: Medulloblastoma
Favorite song: “Part of Me” by Katy Perry
Hobbies: Motivational speaking
Two weeks into her freshman year of high school, Whitney began to experience bad headaches,
nausea, loss of appetite, and fatigue. She found out they were caused by a Medullablastoma tumor.
It was the size of a walnut and located at the base of her brain, blocking spinal fluid from moving up
and down her spinal cord. She had surgery to remove the tumor, followed by three chemotherapy/
radiation treatments and nine maintenance chemotherapy treatments. With the help of research
funded by the Morgan Adams Foundation, Dr. Nick Foreman of Children’s Hospital Colorado
qqqwas able to adjust the treatment for high-risk Medulloblastoma tumors, finding a cure for a previously incurable disease. Since her treatment, Whitney has been valedictorian of her class, a Kansas
Regent Scholar, and an inspirational speaker. She studies nursing Colby Community College, is a
member of a sorority, and is on the honor roll.
CHIP ImPaCt:
MicroArray Chip data has allowed researchers to accurately identify a particular high risk Medulloblastoma (c-myc positive). This has enabled treating physicians to adjust therapy and now means
that children with this variant of Medulloblastoma, previously incurable, now have a reasonable
chance of cure.

AMBASSADOR 2008
Tayler
DOB: 12/15/2004
Age: 8
Diagnosis: Glioblastoma Multiforme
Favorite song: “I’ve Got a Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas
Hobbies: Riding her scooter, swimming, reading, writing and art
On November 2, 2008, Tayler inexplicably went into seizures and was transported to the Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital Colorado. Tests revealed a small lesion in the right temporal lobe of her brain, but a full diagnosis was not readily available. Tayler recovered to the point
she could go home and was scheduled for a follow-up MRI six weeks later. When Tayler went back
to Children’s for her follow-up MRI, the lesion had grown to the size of a golf ball. She underwent a
craniotomy to remove the mass. She was then diagnosed with Gliblastoma Multiforme (a stage four
brain tumor with a twenty percent survival rate in kids). However, Tayler’s tumor had been “chipped”
and was being closely studied. The information attained from chipping allowed the doctors to recommend a new course of treatment—a rather harsh one not typically used for this type of cancer.
The risk paid off and Tayler finished treatment in March of 2010, cancer-free ever since. She’ll be
starting second grade in the fall, likes to swim, and is a “Daisy” in the Girl Scouts.
CHIP IMPACT:
Tayler was identified by conventional pathology as having a Glioblastoma, but when treated with
therapy for this tumor, it rapidly recurred. Chip data suggested an entirely different diagnosis and
when treated with therapy suggested by this analysis, Tayler has done very well and is a long-term
survivor.

Eli
DOB: 9/20/2006
Age: 5-¾
Diagnosis: Craniopharyngioma
Favorite song: “We Are Young” by Fun
Hobbies: Skiing, playing violin and dancing
In late December 2008 while on the East Coast for his great-grandmother’s 90th birthday, Eli started
to vomit and became lethargic. As people in NYC rang in the New Year of 2009, Eli had a massive
ninety-minute seizure. He was rushed to a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where a CT scan revealed
a non-malignant brain tumor known as a Craniopharyngioma. The tumor was so large, it obstructed
the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), causing vomiting and headaches. Eli was rushed to the OR for a
shunt placement to drain the CSF and save his life. Thanks to research funded by the Morgan Adams
Foundation, Eli’s tumor is now the first Craniopharyngioma brain tumor in the world to be Gene Micro Arrayed. This work is now being continued by Eli’s dad, a post-doctoral fellow at the University
of Colorado Cancer Center, funded by MAF. Thanks to your generous support, Eli’s dad continues
to learn more about this elusive tumor to find better treatments for the terrible side effects of this
tumor, so children like Eli can have better and brighter futures. Eli is now a big brother, went skiing for
the first time, and will start kindergarten in the fall.
CHIP ImPaCt:
Eli inspired us to look at the chip data for all children with Craniopharyngiomas, something which
had never been done in any center. Chip data has suggested potential new therapies for this tumor. Ongoing MAF support will fund the continuation of this study.
Last treatment: March, 2011
(The last MRI on 9/10/2011 showed tumor shrinking)

AMBASSADOR 2010
Myles
DOB: 5/26/2002
Age: 10
Diagnosis: Medulloblastoma
Favorite song: “I’ve Got a Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas
Hobbies: Exploring
Myles was an active six-year-old who one day, after a fall while ice skating, had trouble getting his
eyes to track together. A subsequent scan revealed a tumor near Myles’s brain stem, known as a Medulloblastoma. He had brain surgery to remove most of the tumor and then fought through months
of chemotherapy and radiation. Following positive MRIs at three- and six-month post-treatment
appointments, doctors discovered a new tumor, but not in the form of a typical Medulloblastoma
reoccurrence. Myles was given more radiation that targeted the new tumor and more chemotherapy
in preparation for stem cell collection. After yet more chemotherapy, Myles was admitted to the
Bone Marrow Transplant unit for his high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant. One day after
his 9th birthday, an MRI showed two new tumors. At this point, Dr. Foreman went back to the original tumor to retrieve information from the Micro Array Chip that had been placed 2 ½ years earlier.
With this new information, doctors started Myles on a new medicine. Myles deals with side effects of
all his past treatments but has had some clear MRIs lately and is enjoying more time with friends and
less time at clinic.
CHIP IMPACT:
Myles has had relapses of metastatic medulloblastoma, which in the past been have been fatal in all
children. Development of new therapies inspired by chip analysis have enabled Myles to survive
these relapses and given him a realistic chance of cure.

Grace
DOB: 4/26/2000
Age: 12
Diagnosis: Glioblastoma with PNET component
Favorite song: “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson
Hobbies: Reading, swimming, shopping, going to the spa, and creating art
In December of 2010, Grace began to complain that her right foot was going numb a few times a
day, lasting for about a minute each time. This numbness was accompanied by weakness and an
eventual inability to lift her ankle in a normal walking stride. She was taken to the Children’s Hospital
Colorado for what was assumed to be a pinched nerve. Instead, doctors discovered that Grace had a
brain tumor in the motor cortex of her brain, which affected her right foot. Thanks to Dr. Nick Foreman’s research funded by The Morgan Adams Foundation, treatment began with brain and spinal
radiation in combination with carboplatinum chemotherapy each weekday for thirty days. The treatment was successful and Grace is now a twelve-year-old who loves swimming freestyle and butterfly,
riding her electric scooter, and hanging out with her friends.
CHIP ImPaCt:
Chip data has shown that certain tumors do not fit neatly into one category. Some, such as
Grace’s, have characteristics of two different types of brain tumors. The chip analysis enabled
doctors to modify the therapy in order to treat for both tumor elements, offering the realistic
chance of a cure.

Kuhu
DOB: 9/02/1997
Age: 14
Diagnosis: Ganglioglioma
Favorite song: “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele
Hobbies: Dancing, playing the keyboard, singing, and she enjoys theater.
When Kuhu was twelve years old, she was having trouble writing, playing the clarinet, and everyday
activities were difficult because her right hand was not functioning properly. After numerous MRIs
and meetings with several physicians around the state, a small mass was found on her brain stem, a
benign Ganglioglioma brain stem tumor. Surgery removed most of the tumor, and was followed by
proton radiation therapy in Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, she continued to have trouble eating,
drinking, and walking due to nausea. Another MRI showed that a new tumor had grown in a different
location, triggering new symptoms. That’s when she and her family found out about the research of
Dr. Foreman, and under his care, she has started a combination of traditional chemotherapy and new
medication. So far, this has been working well.
Kuhu’s love of dance has been a part of her life since she was four years old. She has been training in
Bharatnatyam—one of eight classical dance styles in Indian culture—for more than ten years under
the guidance of her guru. Her efforts culminated in her Arangetram (debut of the dance) in February
of this year, where her performance represented her coming of age. Kuhu’s Arangetram also served
to underscore her journey with her cancer, and through her ceremony, she raised more than $5000
to help fund cancer research.
CHIP ImPaCt:
Through chip data analysis, researchers were able to look into the genetic basis for certain low
grade tumors which had previously been very difficult to treat. This resulted in the identification of
a specific treatable genetic mutation which, in Kuhu’s case, after radiation failed, resulted in dramatic
improvement in scan and in symptoms.

An Open Letter to Morgan Adams Foundation patrons and guests:
Chubb Personal Insurance has been a very proud supporter of the Morgan Adams Foundation since
2008.
As the most sought-after insurance carrier for affluent families across the world, our Denver operation certainly saw the merits of artma and Concours right away. Our customers attend these events, they enjoy art
and collector cars. We should be there too.
But then we got to know Joan and Steven. And through them, we got to know about the kids. This cause
is important.
We generously support the MAF mission, and want to thank you for doing the same.
Congratulations on 10 years of inspiration!!!!
Very Sincerely,
