October Summary Kinder Art The kids worked with clay and they
October Summary! ! Kinder Art! ! ! The kids worked with clay and they created a little mouse, a cat, and a bird. They learned how to roll and create a basic shape and from there pinch for noses or ears. They used pencils to poke little eyes and added tails and wings by scratching the clay.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! They learned about Wayne Thiebaud an american artist. He was born in the 1920s and is still alive today. He painted things he saw at ice cream parlors that he used to work at and the people and places he used to see. There should be a worksheet with a little biography and work sample. I went to Washington for a week and loved all the greenery found there. Decided to start the class by going outside and picking out different kinds of leaves and going back in and rubbing crayon over the leaf to create an impression. Always a fun little project. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! They created landscaped by doing rip art. Here they do not use any scissors but instead just rip pieces of paper to create mountain ranges. ! Kinder Math! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! For the month of October we reviewed Odd and Even numbers. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Worked on numbers and manipulatives. Still having some issues matching numbers with objects. When writing the number some are still working on the direction the number should go (2 and 5 mainly).! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! We have worked up to number 10 by coloring that many objects, writing the number (both the word and the number), practicing what number is before and after and recognizing the word and number.! ! ! ! ! ! The kiddos worked on guessing a number. One would pick a number and tell the guesser higher or lower. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! They worked on measurements. They drew objects or people that were shorter, about the same, or taller. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Worked on some estimating. I asked them to guess about where on the paper 10 toothpicks would end and put a pencil there. They would then actually place the toothpicks and see if their guess was correct. We did that with a few different objects.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Worked on more measurements. Had the kids working together where they first had each person lay on the ground and cut a piece of string however long they are. Then they wrapped their length around their head, waists, and wrist. We were all surprised that most of our lengths would only wrap around our heads 2.5 to 3 times.! ! ! ! ! ! ! 1-2 Art! ! ! The kids worked with clay and they created a little mouse, a cat, and a bird. Not Pictured - Venn Diagrams: They all got different types of manipulatives and they grouped them however they wanted at first. They could group by color, type, or size and we discussed this. We created Venn diagrams on the board and they had decide depending on the question where they fell in. They also created their own Venn Diagrams with string and created their own groupings.! ! ! ! ! Played a game where they could put one or two beans at a time and whoever put the last one would win/ or lose depending on what kind of game we wanted to play. This is another game where thinking ahead is important.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Worked on some estimating. They learned about cool colors (blue, green, and purple) and warm colors (red, orange, and yellow). They discussed what feelings the colors emote and where you would see these colors. They created two landscapes one with warm and the other with cool.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! They learned about Wayne Thiebaud an american artist. The class finished their primary and secondary still life.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! They learned about Wayne Thiebaud an american artist. Not Pictured - Clay birds - Like the younger ones they worked with clay but made just one creature with more clay. They concentrated on a bird and used rolling, pinching, and scratching clay to create their art.! ! ! ! ! They learned about cool colors (blue, green, and purple) and warm colors (red, orange, and yellow). They discussed what feelings the colors emote and where you would see these colors. They created two landscapes one with warm and the other with cool.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! This was a little extra project where they used white paint only to create a pretty leaf with their own patterns inside. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! The kids created a background with acrylics and the following week with india ink they created the leafless trees. They put a drop of ink at the base of the painting and then with a straw they blew the ink all over the place to create the branches.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 1-3 Spanish! ! ! Through games, songs, and worksheets we have been learning vocabulary. We made a list of words to be used to play Simon says like : salten (jump), applauden (applaud), den vueltas (turn), toquen su cabeza, estomago, o pies (touch your head, belly, or feet) and more plus a number. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! The kids looove singing and dancing to the spanish songs. I will be creating the CDs by this following thursday for them to have at home. I would have had it done earlier but my computer that had the songs has shut down and all songs erased. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! They learned on how to figure out if a word is masculine or feminine - most words are feminine if they end in a and if they end with an o they are masculine. This was important to learn because now they can used the correct article before the word el for masculine and la for feminine. This last week they put gender and number together. Feminine plural is las and masculine plural is los. ! ! ! !
